I was in Nowra for a funeral and decided that after the less fun aspects of the trip I would take my mind off of things by heading out into nature since that usually helps.

I spotted this cache nearby and between the D/T rating and it’s age I knew I would have to check it out.

I was lucky being up with family since my Celica would not have stood a chance on these dirt backroads. So I borrowed my mum’s RAV4, downloaded the cache info and headed over to it.

As previous finders have noted, the tracks leading up close to GZ are no longer open to vehicles so I parked the car near the gate and jogged the kilometre over in the direction of the cache. Once at the bush’ edge I quickly found a small path leading to a likely area.

Although getting to the cache was somewhat difficult, once I had reached GZ it was a quick and easy find. I signed the logbook and replaced it as found.

The container itself has cracked in one place and is thus no longer watertight, however I found the contents inside dry. The logbook too is nice and dry, protected in its snap lock bag.

Thanks for maintaining this awesome cache for so long (over 17 years now wow!), most definitely worth a favourite.

#1557 Although a slight detour was required, this cache just drew our attention and we couldn’t not attempt it. Having not downloaded the cache we hadn’t seen the majority of logs of the passed few years mentioning that the track was no longer completely vehicle accessible so we did miss our entry and had to turn back around before heading in the rest of the way by foot.

800 metres later and we were now all but at our goal but we were met with an amazing amount of growth since the fires 3 years ago now. Finding our way through and then our way down to where we needed to be. Simply being in this area generated this aura of tranquility. The sounds of insects and birds cutting through the silence and bouncing off of our surrounds was immaculate.

Now closing in on GZ, Turtle took another elevation drop and I was about to follow him. Right as I dropped down I spotted the cache, back up a level. We explored a little before returning to the cache and completing signing duties.

This cache has been placed in an absolutely brilliant area and has sat for 16 coming into 17 years. This is what I love about caching, being brought to locations like this. Thanks swampwallaby for placing this one all those years ago!

#3397 We went well beyond the entry track on the assumption there was another way around, but soon enough found ourselves tracking back and following the power lines. With a locked gate around 850 metres or so from our goal we set off on foot. A hot and steamy day added to the adventure but it was worth it on arrival. A bit overgrown but we soon worked out our way down and I headed into the darkness. DeadThief then about to follow me down located the cache which I had already passed. I took a moment to examine what I could of my surroundings and rejoined DT for retrieval and signing. I love how caching can bring you to do many hidden places that you may not otherwise see. Thanks swampwallaby! An interesting hidden gem.

Incredible location! The description of this cache is what instantly grabbed my attention, no way could we pass off this chance whilst driving back from "Wogamia Hotel"! As soon as I see the word "dark" or "torch", but it is not a night cache, I already know it's going to be fun!

We parked at the locked gate, and walked the 850 metres to GZ. Very very easy walk too! Nice and flat and a big open road all the way there!

We soon reached the "cave" and got above it, before taking the route down. The cache was a quick spot on arrival, so whilst DSD signed the log I decided to venture a bit further down / in!

It was quite damp down there, but the cave ended pretty quickly. Saw a strange brush from a dustpan sitting up on the ledge above me though.... huh!

We then exited the cave, and walked a bit further over toward the cliff. We found some more cool drops in the rocks below, and also an amazing view!

TFTC, a favourite point for sure for bringing me here Big Grin

A short walk in. Looks like you could drive down the powering trail for a shorter walk. Nice easy find and a beautiful view from the nearby cliff. Thanks

Yay! What an adventure. Have lived near here most of my life and didn't know that this place was so cool!

24-Jun-20
We parked near Hughes St and walked 1.3km along an easy trail beside the power lines. The surrounding bush had been badly burned last summer, but is already recovering quite well. Lots of new greenery covering the blackened trees. GZ is an interesting location looking a little like the start of a canyon. An easy way in and along to the cave and a surprisingly quick find. Being on a list from a previous visit that we did not get to it was now time on this return visit to make the find. A nice walk in and soon a change in scenery. We descended to a likely spot and were about to go further when a look around and the prize was spotted. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.

Had the morning off and Bonfire7 was keen to a bit of walking. We tackled Coolangatta Mountain to start the day before heading back towards Nowra to pick up the few remaining caches in my 50km radius. Thanks to all Cache Owners for their hides.

This was the second of the day. The cement barricades were a new feature for Bonfire7. We approached from the powerline corridor and made a quick 800m walk of it. We were there in no time and the spooky little spot was discovered.

Cache is in good condition. Thanks for the hide.

My second cache of the day. I reckon this one might have been the first cache I ever attempted, way back in 2007 or 2008. No luck back then but I finally got it this time! Cheers for the cache swampwallaby.

Wanting to find a cache today,I set my sights on this one and im glad I did.
I found my way to GZ easily with a nice scenic drive . upon my arrival I was greeted by a monitor lizard in the scrub.i was really impressed with the cache site and it was a nice spot to sit and cool off on this hot dry day.
After signing log I walked out further and enjoyed the view from the lookout.
Awesome location!! Thanks for bringing me here swampwallaby.fav point

Left Princess rehearsing and toddled off on an adventure that would have been too scary for her!! Well, maybe not, but we told her so. People with longish legs will not be as challenged as our shortest person was but the blindest one managed to catch the glint of shining plastic when the phones lit up it's hidey hole. Our pal "Jeremy the pilot TB" who is Planely Lost, can while away some time being lost in the dark! A quicker find than expected but a lovely area and interesting plant life observed. Looking for some interesting diversions on the way home and this spot looked to satisfy. The Commodore had no probs on the road to GZ even with a little moisture about. Quick walk in then some head scratching as GPS said 0 and it was clear I was wrong in elevation. Made the necessary adjustments and spotted the hide. Tallness and stretchiness inherited from past asbestiform generations came into play and the log was soon signed. A cave cricket the only company. Thanks for the hide.

This one has been on our to do list for a very long time. Today we found time between tradies during our kitchen renovation and headed west. We started to get some rain and wondered if this would hamper our search. The track in was easily located and no problem in the 4WD. Once we parked the GPS had great difficulty deciding which way we should go but a read of the description lead us into a very pretty corner of the area and it wasn't long before we realized where we should begin searching. Geohubby spotted it first as his eyes were more accustomed to the lack of light. Used his walking pole to help retrieve the cache. SL TFTC swampwallaby. Favourite Point !

Hanging out at nearby Riversdale, Bundanon for my brother in law Adrian's wedding to my now sister in law Sarah (congrats you two!). Spare time before proceedings were due to start so headed off with youngest son to find a couple of caches. We both enjoyed this one, an unexpected feature to keep both of us entertained.
TNLNSL, thanks for the cache swampwallaby!
best wishes,

This was a fun one. It was quite unique geography here and I can see why you wanted to place a cache here. It gets a fave point from me! As we got to the spot where the road ended, we saw a firey who was there with his fire engine. A crew was doing some controlled burning nearby, so we thought we had better explain what we were doing there. He was intriqued. Thankfully, we were not going to be near the area of the burning and he was Ok with our being there. We found it after several minutes at the GZ. It was mid morning and not too scary...more adventurous I'd say! Log and cache were dry and in good condition. Thanks for a great adventure, Swampwallaby!

Found with CJ today whilst down the coast for some chilling out on the beach and of course caching.

We've been wanting to get to this one for quite some time to move our DT matrix along. The description and access was easy. When we parked near the GZ, there was a fire truck and some firey's doing some back burning. They were a little surprised to see us considering how close the buring off was. But after a quick chat and pointing out the area we wanted to see the view (aka the GZ) there were fine, especially as the wind was blowing away from the GZ.

The description and coords were excellent. The hint also made it a little easier to find. Tricky hide and we thought the terrain should be a little higher! There were a few places to look, but thankfully no muggles in this gorgeous part of the world. CJ made the find using some good caching logic and we both soon had the cache in hand. Very clever hide. Also the cache and log were in great condition and dry.

Anyway, it was a great day to chase down this south coast cache. It was an amazing location and this one get a fav point from me. Thanks swampwallaby for the cache. We'll look out for more of your caches.

SL TNLN TFTC. This one has been ticked off.

Took us a little while, but was in a logical area, that required a bit of a stretch

This one hasn't been found in over a year and I was a little concerned about the 2WD geovan on approach. However we made it through the couple of sandy sections and didn't really have any other issues, although at one point I had to stop and take a look on Google Maps to find which of the paths through the trees went to GZ. It looks like I could probably have taken either in the end. Anyway, once parked and headed to GZ it was such a cool location, reminds me of adventure video games or maybe an Indiana Jones movie. I confess I was almost disappointed to make a quick find in the end. I had to do a bit of a stretchy scramble and I'm quite tall, so maybe it would be more challenging for normally-proportioned folks. Still, I really enjoyed this one, cache in good condition, took lots of photos of the area, TFTC!

We found the spot, geokids loved it!
But couldn't find the cache. There was a signs of a recent campfire, maybe muggles got to it?

Stayed at Bendeela for the weekend. Decided to knock a few caches off my list. I want to know how people find these top places. The way we decided to go at first (being a typical bush rock landscape) was wrong. As we took the next option, we found it soon payed off. TNLN. TFTC

Been waiting for an opportunity to revisit here for some time. It was where I thought. A popular spot for family adventuring on occasions for the last 20 years. I cannot believe I have been in the exact place before caching. I certainly did not know there was a "treasure" hidden here!!. Actually if the rocks could talk there would be many more stories and possibly other treasures as well.
THTC and the reason for visiting again swampwallaby
Left a star and took the geocoin. (it was actually here for a short visit).

What a TRIP!! I kept turning off too early and find houses and NO ENTRY signs, after a while I eventually put in the co-ords to the turn off, ad what do you know!? I still had 3KM to go! Silly me XD!
Slow trip up the track...the bumps arn't too good for a bike =(
Came across 2 roosters and some chickens with chicks!! <3 So cute, but the noise of the bike scared them off before I could take any photos!
Arrived at GZ, what an awesome place! I spotted the cache quickly, but I couldnt reach it, so I got me a handy device to help me prod it out =)
Took a marble and left Wildlife Geocoin!
Thanks for the cache!!

This was my second visit to the abyss, and I searched high and low, and high and low again, re-read the clues, re-entered the abyss, scanned every possible hidey-hole within reach, without success. Maybe I'll come back when I'm taller!!!

What a great little spot,Geo-daughter (5) loved this cache. We will defintely head back this way and have a bigger explore. The views from the nearby cliffs are great.

Couldn't let a good old scary cache get the best of me. Took the geokid (5yo) with me for some support. After taking in the cool views. Stated looking around the rocks. Found the opening and went in. Being 6'3" had no problems getting this one.

I'd still like to know how everybody finds these little hidey places in the middle of nowhere.
Oohh Scary, yes. But not because it was dark but because of the dark places we thought about sticking our hands in and decided against because of the thought of slithery creatures (even though it is winter) inside.
After a long time searching, in then out and in again we had decided we would have to come back another time with a torch and have another look. (our mobiles just didn't cut it)One last poke on our way out and there it was. We had found it. Took a bit of time retrieving it but we did it. Yeah for us.

We know it's a cliche however this is one of the reasons we like this pastime - to be shown some obscure out of the way nugget that we would otherwise have had no inkling of. We wended our way via backroads and byways until after a short stroll we were surveying an entrance to the netherworld. With hearts in our mouths we girded our loins or whatever it is one does and plunged into the subterranean quest. In a trice the cache was brought blinking into the light of day. A fascinating spot - well worth the time to detour off the highway. Swapped some rubbery critters for some banknotes.

Great cave. Good spot for a geocache.

Great spot. Took a few attempts - up? down? up? down?

Took keyring and left a Travelbug and some stickers.

the only scary part was they were starting to back burn the bush near where the cache was.
other then that a very cool cache

What a unique location, tore a headlight protector off whilst turning around on a wrong track getting to this one, must replace that soon.

Loved the area, easy to find cache, watch out for the HUGE leeches with orange racing stripes just near the entrance.

Cheers

We love these type of caches. The ones that make you think up or down. It says there was no TB but there was one inside so we took it to move to new location.
We walked the last K as we needed the exercise cause we just ate a couple of dough nuts.
We left a Dolly Peg as well.

As it was raining and near sunset, a torch came in handy. Don't know what all the fuss was about ...GPS said 2 metres to GZ from the outside ...and there it was! Jumbuck swapped the scout badge for a coin.

Really nice place to be at sunset. Found it after a bit of circling around above the point, also after stumbling around in cave, 4got touch, lol.

Love the places u visit caching

28-Nov-07
Scariest part was the dam marsh flies. If there were a couple more I could have hung on and flew out. Anyway, interesting spot, nice views and I did need the torch on my keyring or I would have been back to the cruiser for the maglite. TFTC TNLN Greg and cassie the wonder dog.

PS Isn't it ironic that the cache that you need a torch to find has one inside!

30-Sep-07
The hardest part about this cache was teh drive out there. With nothing but a waypoint the car eventually sorted itself out and we found our way to GZ.

What an amazing spot! It looks alot like the start of a Blue Mountains Canyon! Anyways, once at GZ the cache was located in just about the first place we looked, just had to think like a cacher...

Cheers!

Boy this one was tough. Easy enough to find GZ but then we searched and searched. We were about to give up when we decided to have just one more look and bingo.

I returned (complete with powerful torch & a step ladder!!!!) - what an idiot, I thought as I walked through the bush. There were a couple of NPWS contractors at the parking area & a NPWS 4WD. Had a conversation & headed off after the contractors departed. The NPWS staff were no-where to be seen however I did hear them at one stage as they walked close by to GZ. Remained quiet & fortunately avoided detection - how would I explain a step ladder? Located cache, took pencil sharpeners, left TB & scout badge. A great location, very good hide & cache generously stocked. And what did I use the ladder for? - to get in & out - a safety blanket for one not so adventurous.

19-Apr-07
Oooh Funnnnnn!!! This is my kind of place. While I was busy rock hopping Mrs AAA spotted the cache but couldn't reach it Wink Once the paperwork was done I exited by the far end of the GZ (see pics) and went off to explore the next void. Was tempted to go back and grab the ropes out of the car but would have spent the rest of the day here and we had more caches to find. Next time! TNLN

31-Mar-07
Fun location and pretty much natural habitat of the rare Cachus Tanglus Nox.
Explored the lower depths then went vertical and explored the heights before reaching daylight.
The nearby cliffs are also used for climbing so it’s a great spot for some outdoor fun.

26-Mar-07
It was too scary!! The GPS actually located two scary holes but one had obvious damage to the moss so assumed this was the right one. So I had a little conversation with myself - will I or wont I get into that hole? Yes, no - yes, no, no. Very wet & slippery. Had a look all around the hole just in case - will return with a step ladder or invite someone along to experience the thrills of geocaching!

09-Feb-07
I certainly made this harder than it actually was, that was probably due to the fact that I dropped down into the hole just to the west (i think) of GZ. So once I was in there, what the hell I'll explore that hole anyway. Boy it certainly isnt one for the fainthearted.
Anyway back in the right spot I quickly find it knowing that you dont need a torch. Did my swaps. Loved the spot but I would have hidden it elsewhere, but I'm nasty.

As promised we brought reinforcements and they found it straight away. We were still in the car when we heard the shout "Found it" by a very tall cacher! Enjoyed the view after stowing the cache and kept repeating "I was sure I looked there." The Longreach Bush Crew

What a fantastic place! We went with the Longreach bush crew who did the official finding, but it was fun.

After reading the logs I thought I was in for some epic hunt.

Drove out on a misty afternoon (presumably there are some views from around there) and took the short walk from the car. Couldn't quite get a fix which delayed things for a few minutes however when I figured the right spot was close I then figured I had to go down. After doing this, the cache name made sense and then the cache was quickly discovered.

Seemed like a few good goodies in there but TNLNSL.

Thanks.

Now this was a nice hide. Plenty of clear sky to use and the coords were very accurate. It was probably replaced by the previous person too well. We have replaced it so that the additional hints are accurate. No swaps. Thanks Swampwallaby

Finally found it!!!! Thanks to extra clues from swamp wallaby. I'm sure that I looked in this spot before but this time it was easy to find. maybe it has moved out just a bit.
Anyway glad to get this one done at last.

16-Jul-06
On our way home from visiting Mrs S's family and thought we would swing past and claim the cache. Unfortunately we were unable to find it even with Mrs S scrambling over the rocks and poking sticks into all sorts of holes.

With the little C's in the car with nanny we thought it be best to come back another time and have another search.

Great location and considering the cache was found today obviously a very sneaky hide.

09-Jul-06
1600h Well we finally got this one. With extra clues from swampwallaby and firehog I might as well have been given a photo with arrows all over it. Even after finding it, its not easy to get, a breaking rock almost had me crashing to the ground with a few cuts on the knuckles.
Anyway we dropped off Deco's Geocoin and grabbed a knick-knack to prove to firehog that we did indeed find it.

A very special place with a very special hide. It looks like there has been more visitors to this area since we were last here. Everything is a lot more trampled and disturbed than we remember leaving it. So glad we had the opportunity to visit this pristine environment. Thanks again for giving us a reason to visit this very special place that you would not know existed by looking at the surroundings. Great spot and a clever hide swampwallaby.

45 minutes at dusk was not enough time for us on this one but we will be back. Thanks for the hunt swampwallaby.

Yee hah finally I found it..with a little help from the missus. Being our first find ever I enjoyed the challenge, this was my 4 visit to the area, 3 serious look for the cache. we found it within 15 minutes today. Look at he clues with your cryptologist glasses on is my comment.
Being tall was helpful but short missus found it.

Ohh thanks to those who guided me a bit on the sport. BT's & B&W.

Ok, dropped in yesterday and the cache is still very happy nestling in its hiding spot. Made a slight adjustment to the co-ordinates, but not much.

Set out for this one early this morning on MTB (FREEZING} through Robertson.
What a great area to explore, i would not have thought this area was in here, great photo spot as well.

[Well, now that it has been found maybe you can give something that is not so cryptic. I have seen this place go from a pristine piece of bush to a muddy mess with so many people trampling through.] Do you need a torch or dont you? it can't be both. If I'm claustrophobic will I be able to find it? If I'm short will I need to bring a ladder? GZ can be anywhere up to 25 mtrs away from the cave in any direction. With 2 GPSs running at the same time I can have two totally different locations.

Hi BT's,

This location is commonly visited by locals and is far, far from pristine - it's usual state after rain is a muddy mess. I could not discern any difference on my check visit.

I explained what the clues meant in my earlier log, CacheTrack sat down and thought it through and found the cache even without the benefit of the extra hints.

I will drop you a line privately.
Cheers!

Much better reception on my visit yesterday, so am slightly adjusting the co-ords by about 5 metres.

Still, reception in this location is poor, following the clues will get you better results!
