It's been been a while since TECATS (TwigNZ, Etherlord Clan and the Seagnoid) have arranged to spend a day tramping together, but plans were made a little while ago that we would have a bit of a wander around some of the tracks around Coppermine Creek.
We love these kind of tracks that take you off for a little tree-time, and if we can find a few caches along the way then all the better. Even more so if they are archived, as we love finding those.
We had a pretty good look here today, and found some fantastic places to hide a good sized cache, but no actual cache. Reading previous logs however, I am not convinced we were in the right place. Everything matched the description, but then so many places would do that.
Maybe another look another time...

I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.
3 DNFs. I will do a check on this one shortly and, if necessary, replace and enable
We came out this way in the rain for the Earthcache and intended to find this one as well. We were just getting our search underway when I found a deer leg on a large pile of rocks, unattached to a deer. I have to say, finding random animal parts really puts in crimp in my motivation (yet encourage me to run away at top speed), so we stopped looking. Maybe in the summer.
Found after we'd attempted the Coppermine track. Great spot for a picnic & some afternoon tea while I looked for the cache.
Added in some swaps into the cache, countdown cards & other things that kids like.
Pretty disappointed to not get to the mines to show the kids but we decided it was safer to not push on forward up the streams. Very handy having the GPSr on us which showed us the tracks, bonus of geocaching as a hobby:)

On a 6 day road trip with sveppi. Day 2: Cape Kidnappers-Dannevirke. Because we escaped a long walk to the cape this morning, we came to the Ruahines for a short walk. We couldn't find this cache when we arrived, so we tried again when we came back. There are 2 areas within 30-40m of each other that fit the hint description. Cache was not where the GPS was pointing, but in the other place with similar layout. Thanks for keeping this one going for so long, I like old caches.
I used to live in Palmy way back and remember seeing this cache on the website then (in 2006). Visiting the area now we decided to do the copper mine creek track. Looked for this where the GPS was pointing (and as per the hint) with no luck! Did the walk and had another go on the way back. Put the GPS away and followed some cache sense. Quickly located. TFTC
What an interesting place. We are definitely going to return to do the walk from here- today we couldn't as we had our dog in the car and leaving him behind just wouldn't be fair. Thanks for sharing this place with us
Looked for over 10 mins and found lots of hollows but no cache today... will return and look again when heading for Wharite.
I have no doubt that the cache is lurking there some were. I just couldn't find it today. Can't blame anything but my own inabilities really. The weather wasn't too bad and I spent about 20 minutes looking before deciding it was time to move on. Cheers anyway

Made it into here today after our Wharite expedition. Cache location has got very overgrown since initially placed, so I have relocated to nearby to make this an accessible and relative easy find.
Only the second DNF for Nic-jay and I. I'm sure that it is here, but we only had limited time to search. Lovely area, I 'll be back.
On a sedate 3-day road trip to Napier with Infoferret.
Had a fairly decent but quick hunt around. I'm sure it is still here but it just was not wanting us to find it today.

Came here on a day's caching to clean up some outstanding unfound caches in the Northern Wairarapa. Found after a short search, I didn't initially spot the hint item and ended up going around the back. Signed log, TFTC
The last leg of our trip was to do the coppermine track hubby biked while I walked, as we were tossing up to do the walk or not as it was lightly raining we cooked some lunch and I grabbed this cache. Thank to another finders comment I knew I was in the right area. Soon had cache in hand and added paracord Keychain. Tftc
Found today with Tommygun9 before heading out for a walk to enjoy the sunshine. T F T C
Headed south with C&D, for a full weekend of caching, with the first cache being found at 6.00pm Friday night and finishing with an Event in Hamilton at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Both of us had certain caches we were targeting for the Geo Licence series, as well as finding anything else we driving past, or near. All up we found 165 caches, travelled just over 1700kms and had around 5 hours sleep.
All in all it was an EPIC adventure, exploring in and around the Whanganui to Dannevirke area. We found some great caches along the way and saw some great sights. Thanks to everyone for placing all the caches.
Took a few minutes to locate this one. Made it much harder in the dark.

A bit of a caching trip in the company of HKCB both of us endeavoring to know off a chunk of the requirements for the Geocaching License Series (different stages, different requirements for each of us), so what better excuse for a road trip.
Between 6.30pm Friday and 1,30pm Sunday I collected approx 140 caches (HKCB=155) and many of these needing to be a great distance from home, so little sleep, so much caching
Some figures for the trip were
1/. approx 1700 kms
2/. Caches mentioned above.
3/. some very memorable caches in Wanganui
4/. lots of laughter and lies
5/. 4 hours sleep
located while collecting the nearby earthcache
thanks for the placement

Reviewed logs of recent time. Have upped the terrain and difficulty ratings, but only somewhat. It is pretty easily accessed and should not be a difficult find.
#5467. Good walk up towards the copper mine. A little more than a terrain 1 though.

Took a while to find this one. The GPSr was jumping around and not terribly helpful. While I was walking in circles trying to make sense of the GPSr Mr Stardust took to the bushes to hunt for the cache based solely on the hint. Eventually a "come and look at this" was heard. I struggled to reach the cache so had to get Mr Stardust to do the honours. Definitely not wheelchair accessible (as indicated by terrain level 1). TFTC and an excuse to walk this lovely track.
Our 17th of 22 caches found today. Wow, this was a difficult 1/1 cache. We got the hint and spent a good 20 minutes searching for it in the rain. Took awhile but after a lot of searching the hiding spot was finally found. 3 very happy cachers. TFTC.
Very hard to find, and quite a tricky spot to get into but found it in the end.

Took quite a while to locate. First the fairy half and muggles went a searching in the wrong spot and then the Crystal half found it after a little hunt. Only then did we find the real meaning of the hint. T4TC. Did with Mycro Man
My 2 fellow cachers made me find this one by myself (3rd cache). All good - thanks for the cache
Found after a walk up Wharite from the Coppermine Creek carpark. It took me a little while to find, and I was almost ready to give up; but just before doing so I widened my search, and immediately spotted some suspiciously arranged logs. That had to be the cache! Thanks.
2nd to last geocache for the day, also did the nearby earthcache. Very interesting place

MrMeccano and I had a go at this one after collecting the info on the nearby Earthcache. We were accompanied in the search by a couple of muggle chickens, not sure where they came from, but didn't help a lot.
We spent about 10 mins lookign for it when I finally got down on the hands and knees and got dirty, did the cache reveal itself.

Enjoyed the drive up to this location and was snowing when I arrived. Didn't take long to locate, signed log then replaced. TFTC
3311 A nice quick find fortunately as a couple of hunters were loading up their rifles and heading off into the wild blue yonder, didn't want to hang around incase they got trigger happy! TFTC
Fairly straightforward find. Description and hints are helpful. Lovely rata in flower nearby. Took cartridge case; left pet rock. TFTC
I found this hunt to be a little more difficult than the description suggested it would be. Maybe this is one of those cases where finders have unintentionally progressively hidden the cache a little better than they found it!? Anyway, this is a neat spot and I hope to return with more time on my hands to do a decent walk. TFTC.
On a bit of a trip up north to find some geocaches. Found this cache after a bit of a search. SL Thanks for the cache.
Left a little earlier for a northern work trip so I could come up here and have a look around. Great spot, one I wasn't aware of. Signed log, and note terrain rating should be at least 1.5 given it wouldn't be wheelcahir accessible. TFTC
Found with Morgan Ed. Last cache for the day so only had time to pillage cache and head back home. Will have to come back to do the walk to copper mine. TFTC.
All country side amazingly green for early March. Both tracks from here closed due to "impassible slips".
Remember this track from many years ago, visiting it several times taking family at times and also Girl Guides, but then the track went boulder hopping up the river, and the chn ( now in late 30's) stayed in the old Coppermine hut! The large wetas inside the old mines were to be seen! Girl Guides terrified! TFTC

Quick easy find. Cache was sitting out in the open so rehid a little better in same location. NINO, TFTC
Possum found this with the help of Dave and Bev when on the way back from a Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club Wednesday tramping trip to the top of Wharite. What a slog but worth it for the views of the Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, windmills and Ruapehu. Left a UK penny and took a little car. Cleo was at home today. TFTC
After a stone throwing adventure finding the cache Reserved, joined today by one of MissIarekt’s friends, we drove through the gorge to visit MissIarekt’s best friend who lives in this area. How could we not drive a little further and get this cache? The girls thoroughly enjoyed their quick play in the bush. I think we must be raising an intrepid traveler We are seriously considering coming back to do the track one day with a friend of ours.

A relatively easy find after due consideration of the hint. To solve the riddle of what once stood there:
This was once a road end toilet provided for use of the public. I understand that it was burnt down by vandals within a few years of its construction. It makes one wonder at the mentality of such people who wantonly destroy that which is provided for the comfort of others.
A good spot for a cache the hunt for which can be combined with an interesting tramp if one is so inclined. Some good local history is recorded in the nearby information shelter. SL TNLN TFTC.

Beautiful place, though we didn't do the loop walk.

Wow, another local spot that we didn't know about - that is whats so great about caching! Will be back with the tramping boots sometime for sure. Took nothing, left smiley bouncy ball.
This local one has been on the "to do" list for a while. We picked a particularly wet morning to visit it - raincoats and gumboots were needed for the short walk from the car park. Thankfully it was a quick find. The cache is dry and contents all OK. Thanks Tararua Turtle.

Suddenly our sunny day is turning into a howling gale. We blew into the valley, found the concrete slab and spotted the cache in an open place, exposed and not hidden.
Out - Spoon and marble
In - Pingpong ball and fridge magnet
Rehid the cache well, it might be a little harder to find but it is close to where it was left exposed, may even be in the proper hiding place.
A fascinating place we'd like to explore more but it was getting late and the wind was galeforce making driving difficult, wasn't looking forward to going through the Gorge, but fortunately the wind wasn't as bad on the Palmy side.
