Today was a very early start with a drive to the airport for a 6 am flight to Cairns and day one of our North Queensland geocaching trip.Snickersallan and I were met at the airport by Grannysmith and Bluewattle. The bags were thrown into the car and we were off for a day of adventure. First off it was up to Kuranda, then across to Mareeba, down to Atherton and Millaa Millaa. It was then over to Innisfail before working our way back to Cairns, to arrive just in time for the night time event. It was nice to see a couple of locals turn up to the event, thank you.We are on the move and we had to stop in here for this old cache it was on the list of must do's. It was a nice find and the log was signed with all four names. It was then replaced as found. Thanks for the hide and the placement.

Homeless camp has now gone from the area and the cache could do with a check on.

12-Dec-23
Didn't find the cache. Homeless guy in the tent came out and started ranting and raving, telling me to f@@k off, waving a small metal object. Not very safe.

07-Sep-23
We had to tread carefully into GZ, so as not to stir the local camper, thankfully a quick find, loads of muggles at a funeral, and obviously not interested in our activities, TFTC Yarrum

20-Apr-23
We had a grounds keeper ask if we were geocaching and said he talked to a couple people a few days ago that we’re looking for it as well so I’m assuming they just didn’t log the cache. As we were heading back to it we were stopped by a guy who said he lives in this tent and he wanted to know why we were going back there. We didn’t stick around long but I turned over some rocks and looked under a rather large one and didn’t find it. The GPS location is extremely close to the tent and judging by the guys attitude, I’m not entirely sure the cache is still here. It’s very possible I was just putting too much faith in the GPS though.

Took a while but we found it, log still wet and no trackables in it, found with Bail24

We came here a couple of weeks ago at night and were both hesitant to enter due to being a bit spooked haha lucky we didn’t as we ran into a couple of old headstones In the bush there and I bet that totally would’ve put the wind us up at night already feeling the spooky vibes

15-Sep-22
In the area with geo-buddies so of course geocaching. Alway nice to find an oldie! Thanks for the cache.
Cheers

15-Sep-22

Can’t say I was dying to get in here Wink

I like a dad joke and this cache title caught my attention and was within walking distance to the hotel.

As I walked along the foot path trying not to look suspicious about to enter a cemetery, a local asked me for guidance on the nearby trail - wow I pulled off the disguise!

The cache was fairly quick to find but the cache log was saturated. New paper added.

We've had this oldie on the radar for a long time now and finally found it. The older part of the cemetery is an interesting place for a stroll for sure. Unfortunately we have to foto-log since the container is slowly being eaten by ants and all the contents are wet and yucky.

11-Jul-22
Found but log is soaked, replacement log is needed

11-Jul-22
Not my first visit to Cairns' dead centre and my previous trips failed to find this oldie. Not this time and I really don't know how I missed this cache in my previous attempts. I'm grateful I latched onto the cache quickly and found the plastic bag ripped apart and a very wet log.

My latest trip did uncover a great flower arrangement that I hope to replicate for the daughter's upcoming nuptials. She was really wrapped (not really) that I took an interest in this facet of her wedding. Thanks Yarrum for the journey to the dead centre.

08-Jul-22
I dropped the geowife and youngest off for some 'mall shopping' and knew I had time to collect some caches on the way back to the apartment. Thanks to all the hiders for placing and maintaining these caches.

Last one for the day....too wet to sign, but I do enjoy walking through old cemetarys

31-May-22
On our trip to Cairns, we are exploring so many new places. New places for us, that is!
Today after a lovely walk up one of the nearby mountains, we decided to come and find a couple of drive-by hides.
This was the last of the day, and it was very peaceful to come for a walk through the older parts of this cemetery.
The log and container were quite wet, and we have tried to dry them and removed as much water as possible.
Thanks yarrum

We wandered to this cache in the dead of night, but I was not happy walking around the bush at this time. The graves, that wasnt a problem.
Eventually we came up with the cache find

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

We were lucky in the fact that it was dead quiet out here at this time of night and we only took a few minutes to find the cache after looking in the wrong places at first.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

13/10/21 Find #5030
Today was only a mini caching day for Fangsoki and I, collecting just a couple of older caches for me, which he had already done.
For someone who has been here before, he certainly didn’t know how to find his way around. Can’t blame Fangsoki tho, he only has an android phone, not one that actually shows roads in a cemetery
I however could work out exactly where I needed to be, so having directed him as close as necessary, I jumped out of the car, leaving him in the nice cool aircon, while I headed in under cover to make myself a nice quick find - pretty close on the coords too.
Then it was time for us to depart, tho not in the (6th) sense of others around here, but to make our way to the airport for a flight to Horn/Thursday Island.
Thanks for the cache Yarrum.

Grey nomads, currently spending time caching in far north Queensland. We have had enough of the rain, and hankering to get back on the road again. After spending almost 3 hours down on the esplanade, we decided to find just one cache. Dead Centre.....

Arrived in the scrub and walked around in circle at GZ, I found something that fitted the description, but I did not find the cache. Stepped back and read some logs and the clue.
Something there helped me a little, and I went back into the scrub, and quickly found the cache - where I had already looked. So there!

The container was just like a grave, buried under ground, and full of water. The humongous zip log bag was full of water. I emptied out the water, the log book was not reasonably dry. I replaced the ziploc bag, and double bagged the log book after signing it, returned it to the grave, said a prayer Amen.

Plenty of wait a while here, came out dripping with blood.

Thanks Yarrum for the cache.

It wasn't the dead centre of the night but it was dark when we walked to look for the cache. After finding it we realised we came about it all wrong and had walked a heap further to a side entrance. The cache took ages to find. We wandered around in the right place trying to find the hints, even something that looked cache hidey. Eventually MrG found it in a place he said he hadn't seen before but I reckon I saw it at least half a dozen times and dismissed it. [xx(] Made hard work of it but TFTC Yarrum.

Out for my morning walk on our last day in Cairns. I’ve been tackling ones close to where we are staying. A few on the list to do. Cache located quickly log signed trinket left behind. No biting locals of any kind. TFTC Yarrum

Found with LJB54 after tending to some maintenance whilst visiting family on the other side of the area. Got swarmed a bit by mosquitoes despite the find in the early afternoon, so be prepared if attempting this one later in the day.

Container in good condition and added our names to the log and a TB visit. GZ is fairly dry and the log is still in fair condition. TFTC TNLN

My partner and I were in Cairns for a quick weekend away this weekend and I took the opportunity to find a few caches in the area. This was one of the last, on our way to the airport, and we drove most of the way to GZ, only heading bush at the last. Plenty of growth but we found it reasonably quickly and in reasonable shape. TFTC, Yarrum. =^.^=

***COs- Gradually trying to catch up on a major logging backlog, some I'm sorry to say, stretches back a few years.
Please note- I'm logging each cache on the day that I visited it, not the day I'm logging on. Cheers??***

**************************************

Returning home to Brisbane from the QOGM events in Blackall but taking a "little detour" as I often do. This time it was via Barcaldine, Charters Towers and Cairns then down the coast on the Bruce Highway.

This is as far north as I'm going on this trip and I'm staying for a few days as I haven't been here for many years and that was before I started caching.

Wandering around Cairns letting caching be my guide and stopped to find this oldie. Did a bit of here and there to find it which is normal for older caches and got my name on the log.

Wont post a pic on this log as only have two from here, one of the cache hide and one of a group of identical graves.

###MILESTONE CACHE #6800###
My most Northerly Australian find. The prime target of a lovely afternoon's walk along the Cairns foreshore, and an oldie cache to boot. What's not to love

I took a long, long, looooong walk around town - 18kms (and another 4kms next morning) ... picked up a bevy of cache finds, but I was always focussed on this one. A much further walk then I was expecting, and felt afterwards that perhaps I should have bedded down here. But I soldiered on and have lived to tell the day. A bit like this cache. It's had a few "moments" over the years I see, but always good to see the community banding together.

Apart from some muggles on mowers over there somewhere, it was just me, the ants and a few noisy birds today. My GPSr insisted GZ was somewhere that did not match any hint, but a widened search quickly had me in a sensible spot, and a cache was uncovered. Retrieved the TB to head south with me, and returned the container upside down to help keep it dry inside.

Thanks Yarrum and all the 'helpers' for your efforts to entertain me at this location.
Cool *{Overall find #6800}* Cool

Not so easy to find! Obviously the cache is adopted by Walterhellmut. The container is now rather small - a little bit too small for the new logbook. After all there were none of the TBs from Malipara.
New TB in.

We are staying not too far away and noticed the growing dnfs. We stopped on a walk to buy a sistema and made contact with the CO. A new container is at GZ under a rock as shown in the picture. We took time to admire the small but well kept war cemetery. Thanks.

Just visiting the TB that we found here and 'grabbed' from the Netherlands, so he can accumulate the mileage to Australia!

We found this cache during a hike along the botanical garden, the Esplanade and the city of Cairns.

A cache on a cemetery.... The last one I found was a couple of years ago in Denmark. It was an easy found in beautiful weather. On a quite quiet place. Thanks! Out: TB

Thank you for the cache!
