Such a beautiful place on such a lovely day. We found what we thought to be the green trail marker (the stone near the gate?) but unfortunately after much hunting came away empty handed. Will have to return another day Sad

08-Apr-13
Seems that this cache has gone missing. Sad Was fun while it lasted.

24-Mar-13
Bugger.couldnt find it.even with photo hint...!beautiful spot tho. Smile

08-Mar-13
Thought I have a bit of a walk before heading back into town. Parked at the Watercare walkway end and walked the track along the northwestern coast. Got to GZ after cutting across the last field. Though this would be an easy find since I could see a couple of structures resembling the hint object. But I searched and searched and searched again to no avail. Added to watchlist and I'll drop the CO an email with a photo just to make sure I'm in the right spot. Hope it hasn't been muggled since I was really looking forward to finding this cache. Thanks, Dave

11-Feb-13
Needing to be a bit particular for strategic caching for the Geo License this was on my adgenda for today. A plesent early morning stroll to GZ before heading to see first client of the day

Beware of the ants, although normally very happy they tend to get upset when distrubed, damm things

TFTC

21-Jan-13
An enjoyable walk from parking the car to the cache. Although there was no sign of the "green trail marker" it was fairly obvious where the cache was likely to be located although I must admit to doing a double take when I saw the cache container as I never expected to see one of these as a geocache.

The container was fairly full of ants although no damage to anything in the cache.

I dropped off a geocoin which wanted to go via water themed caches as this seemed a perfect place with water views for about 270 degrees or so.

01-Dec-12
Nice walk across the reserve after going to the Villa Maria wine sale. TFTC

18-Nov-12
In the first spot I checked. A quick find on a superb Auckland geoday. Thanks for bringing me to this location.
Thank you for placing this cache.

29-Oct-12
Our last New Zealand find while here for the Mega event in Dunedin.

We enjoyed our morning walk before heading off to the airport to continue onto South America.
Left a pathtag.
Thanks for the cache.

An interesting idea for a cache. was an easy find. TFTC

09-Jun-12
Had walked in this area pre-caching days so no wonder it all looked familiar. Couldnt find the hint but after a few glances here and there and a rain shower, we soon came up with the goods. TFTC.

Nice spot. Amazing how rural you can be in the city. Dropped off Walk About Smurf.

Foggy ? well it was. Added a book, left the other two.

19-May-12
Sweet cache. Approached the cache from the waterside through a field of cows. After initially moving out of my way I think they decided I was going to feed them as the entire herd started converging on me - was slightly nervous!

Meant I had a captive audience of cows rather than muggles while I hunted around GZ and then sat down to take in the view and sign the logbook.

My first BookCache, never heard of them before but will be looking out for others and dropping off a book myself soon. Did not grab the book from this one as already read it.

Dropped off a Mickey Mouse badge.

01-May-12
Very peaceful here tonight. Could be renamed prickly bottom book cache, because I saw a few hedgehogs on the way to gz. Tftc

A long interesting walk to GZ. Fantastic spot for a cache. No Poo on my shoes either as I am a farmer from way back and knew what to expect. Alls well with the cache.

24-Oct-11
Had a very pleasant afternoon strolling around the stone fiels this afternoon. Such a neat quiet and tranquil place. Thanks for bringing me here. Grabed GC.

26-Sep-11
A great day for an after walk and explore.

Needed to stretch my legs after being on the flight over but the GPSr did not want to co-operate. It could find enough sats but just did not want to calcuate a position. In the end I went for the big reset and pulled the battery for a full reboot but by this stage I had got to the Puketa island so did the logs caches on the way back. The reboot on the phone does burn up a lot of power which meant I had to do a few further down the track on my memory of google maps as the battery gave up latter in the walk.

Dropped off TC

Find #74

08-May-11
No problem with the find after reading prior logs' surprise at the nature of the camo. How very appropriate and what a wonderful place. No frog calls today but cows are working overtime. Checked for Avocadoes on way back to car and note to self to plan a trip during the right season. Found the allowed 5 each; caching has so many rewards! Thanks for bringing us here. NINO (had no books) TFTC

01-Apr-11
Nice walk on a sunny morning. Grass is long and wet.
Took the direct approach to the cache and followed the track on the way back (which was a bit easier).
Didn't bring any books with me today.
Nice area, thanks for sharing.

05-Mar-11
Found with 10cc after performing some maintenance on our "trail of power" nearby. Weren't sure if we had found the cache or some stolen property at first Wink but the cache it was! An interesting area that I had not been to before. TFTC!!! Big Grin

02-Mar-11
Found on the way to the new series by FMZ and 10cc. Quick find having completed a nice to jog to GZ. Can't believe this container keeps the contents dry but somehow it does. Love the idea behind the cache. TNLNSL. TFTC.

11-Feb-11
Lucky that I didn't look this one up at home. The cache is on the site mentioned as "no dogs". But.....Lucky when you arrive at the parkgates. DOGS are allowed....and yes you are even allowed to walk them off leash. maybe good to adjust the cache on the internet.
I didn't took a book. When opening the cache I sniffed a bad smell...hmmm it seems that my foot found some leftovers of the cows Sad

11-Feb-11
This is a dog off leash area Smile

11-Feb-11
Have updated for dogs...thanks for the heads up.

05-Feb-11
An interesting cache container - I'm surprised that its waterproof - but the contents are in good order so it must be.

20-Jan-11
Found a long time ago but back for a quick walk around the area.

19-Jan-11
Had walked all over this area a few years ago, assesing it for orienteering. So decided to cycle to the path that starts at Oruarangi creek. But tree fellers had block it with a massive clutter of Macrocarpa fellings, so went cross country via fences, long grasss and rocky terrian. Approached the cache from the coastal track. Found it easily. Didn't see the feature mentioned in the hint. Great idea. Took Horowitz Horror stories book and left a Bill Bryson. Sorry, wasn't sufficiently organised to register on bookcrossing.com, nor was the book I took registered. TFTC

08-Jan-11
Out for a long walk on a long lay over at the airport.TFTC

Took a trip from Canada to New Zealand to visit my brother and nephew over Christmas. Did some caching and was taken to some pretty amazing places. Thanks for the cache!

11-Dec-10
Boiling hot early summers walk over some of the driest ground iv seen with Kyle891! Cool stone walls Smile..random influx of cows into paddock whilst investigating the cache. lol made us jump. TFTC

11-Dec-10
After a long walk over the Serengeti plains and stone walls we found the box. bjarni1 and I were behind the wall no longer than 5min and when we popped back up there was a random herd of cows standing there like they had been there for hours... the weird thing was there weren't any cows in sight when we arrived O.o and they say aliens don't exist. TFTC

Nice walk down to the cache area. Took a short search to make the find. Enjoying my tour around Auckland with excellent weather again today. SL TFTC

nice walk through the park, completely deserted, found the marker and made our way to cache. Brought along a couple of books and swapped them for something new. TFTC.

24-Feb-10
Like the previous cacher, whose notes we did not have on our Palm, we looked for a purple marker, but then trusted the GZ reading and the hint and found it without much stress. TNLNSL Thanks! No cows in the field today, but plenty of manure.

24-Feb-10
found despite the hint, which refers to purple marker, but it's been painted green! Right by the gate. Interesting informational marker nearby.

24-Jan-10
Pleasant walk in the afternoon sun. Arrived at GZ and the clue meant nothing to us as the markers have since been painted green, which we only realised on our return journey when we saw a hint of purple appearing from under the green paint on another marker. At least we found the cache which is nice and dry and well stacked with books T4TC.

17-Jan-10
Have not visited this area before. Looks like a good place to have an explore. Used the hint to find the cache, as the only purple marker was back near the beginning of the track. Good hiding spot for a cache this size. Like the concept of the cache, but made no exchange today. Thanks.

Nice early morning walk. Saw a couple of Ring Neck Pheasants, Rabbits and the usual Pukekos. Coords and hint had me in the right place very quickly. Thanks.

Nice one. GPS seemed to take me straight to GZ without the offset. Its a very interesting area. Must check out the nearby free avocado orchard at the right time of year. No swaps today. TFTC, Biggles.

This has inspired me to start a bookcrossing cache even though today we did not have any books to swap. TFTC

I think I parked the furthest away from this cache as possible, but enjoyed the walk anyway.
Swapped a Black Sabbath book (logged on Bookcrossing.com) for a book called Wheelbarrow across the Sahara, should make for an interesting read on the plane on the way home.

TFTC, Cheers.

Cool cache. Nice to get out into the fresh (!) spring air.

Note: There is a difference between 11 meters and 111 meters. My bad Smile

19-Sep-08
What a great spot for a quiet read - If we didn't have a plane to catch then I could have settled in to read one of the cache contents. Amazing scenery for my 200th cache. TFTC

19-Sep-08
What a cool place!! It smelt like NZ but looked like Ireland! Very enjoyable cache and the book idea is intriquing... The trip was topped off by two pairs of very colourful parrots flying over us as we headed back to our car. TFTC

18-Jul-08
I made the trip out to the stones and wandered around for a while enjoying the great views as well as the old stone walls. One thing I noted was that someone had altogether to much spare time making those fences out of rocks oh and should anyone happen to know them give me a bell I could use their services for the retaining wall at the front of my place Wink Jokes aside though this was a very enjoyable meander around a historic site and a cache well hidden and in fine condition. No books today for me as the only book I had to swap I have only just begun Thanks so much for bringing me here top work. CoolCoolCoolCoolCool

Out and about with TechnoKitten on the Cachemachine Splat. Wanted to do the earthcache nearby but the tide was wrong.. So came here as nearest... Nice walk over volcanic debris. Found purple marker and was pleased the offset took us to the shade... It was getting hot. Sat in cool after opening cache ... TK signed the log in her usual creative style and we left calling cards only as we werent carrying books.

17-Sep-07
Great spot. It was a lovely afternoon for a walk which turned out far more distance than the the GPS (as-the-crow-flies) suggested, but worth the effort. I loved the ponds!!!

GPS was way off and I didn't have the clue with me, so was about to give up when I thought I'd explore the interesting rocks nearby. It wasn't long before I spotted a place where I thought would make a good hide, and before I knew it; the cache was in my hands.

TNLNSL Thanks for a lovely walk on such a nice spring day!

Nice easy find to start the day. Always enjoy the walk thru this park.

22-Oct-06
Last one for the day, bit cramped for time so ended up with brisk walk to find it. Lots of fresh cow pats and had to watch tha the kids didn't land in any. Careful reading of the clue will make for a quickish find.
TN LN SL. Even brisker walk back to the car. Lovely spot - never knew it was there.

15-Oct-06
1.45pm.On our way to meet our daughter at the airport we thought we would enjoy this one - and we did. Firstly noted that avocardos (5 at least) may become available later in the year; the flowers are prolific at present. Then we found purple flowers on wild potato plants - was this the clue? Then we heard the frogs - not a quiet group!! The final plus was we avoided the squawlly rain showers that passed by from time to time. Not a difficult find. Didn't have a book to swap but left a couple of items so we could take the Spike Milligan book - Mrs Flounderer is a fan. Also took and will log the Where's George note.

It was a beautiful morning, and time for some spring cleaning...

New books added to the cache:

'Into Thin Air' by Jon Krakauer
'Small Dreams of a Scorpion' by Spike Milligan
'Longitude' by Dava Sobel
'Smoke and Mirrors' by Neil Gaiman

I have temporarily removed 'Air Bridge' by Hammond Innes, and 'Blast From the Past' by Ben Elton.

P.S. I may be moving to Dunedin in the next couple of months. If anyone is interested in adopting a fully stocked bookcache, please PM me.

P.P.S. I would like to thank everyone who has visited this cache for hiding it so well. If anything, it was better hidden today, than when I placed the cache Smile

Found it without too much hassle. Only had to dodge some muggles walking the track, but that was no problem.

29-Jul-06
Last of six finds on my way to Auckland Airport to fly home. Not only that, but it's the last find for this trip; that makes it 55 finds for the week. Based on the talk of mud and gumboots in previous logs, I almost didn't attempt this one (I've seen a lot of mud this week!). However, it was so close to the airport that I thought I'd have a look. I decided to take the direct route to the cache: across the paddocks. The cache was an easy find at 1315. I didn't have a book with me. so I just left something non-literary. There were only three books in the cache. I grabbed the $500 Travel Bug. I took the longer, more conventional way back to the car. Mud wasn't a problem on either approach. My thanks to BenjyMouse for the cache.

IN: Green highlighter
OUT: Nothing, except the TB

On the way home from work, but not really the right gear for this sort of thing! Sorry to hear original cache in Onehunga was muggled as that was our very first cache ever. This is a great area. TFTC

15-Jul-06
Lots of rain lately so the access was a bit muddy but that is what gumboot were designed for. The cattle thought we were there to feed them as they all came up to us making a heck of a racket. Sure enough 5 min later the farmer came down with some hayledge to feed out. Perfect location to hide a large cache. Thanks BenjyMouse
