Cracking day out, also cracking bump on the head. A little warning would be appreciated
First time up Square Rockwhere has this place been my whole life?! What a spectacular place.Came along with Westernsydwanderer and his missus, plus Frenchykek and the geo junior for a splendid public holiday stroll. Such a nice track all the way to the top, and a delightful reward when you get there. After lunch and a bit of rock hopping we got down to business. It was Jimmy the geo junior who made the find, before Frenchykek copped his punishment for not reading the hint Signed and replacedis that Mt Gingera off to the left? Thanks!
Unfortunately my return from my hiatus from caching was unsuccessful.
Gorgeous views and light snow fall so had a good look. Found a like spot but no cache. Thanks for the walk

N was surprised when I said I'd never been out to Square Rock at all. The dodgy knee was feeling good after the short bush-amble so the 10km wander was agreed. The trail in is easy enough and I enjoyed the views at the top although the wind was definitely saying "Hello!". Cache itself was found shortly thereafter and then over to it's "Son" which was a little harder.
Thanks Tankengine and Matt the splatt. What a great location. Fantastic views. Well worth the climb. FP from me.
TFTC. A great walk in and out to the rock. Found when we got to the rock that 2 of the party were also cachers so helped me. I did find the spot and I didn't bang my head!!!
TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. Fantastic location b
Another great cache marking a good spot for adventuring geokids. Decided the weather would hold off and with a little one in tow, this 2.5 hour easy flat stroll to a great rock formation was just what the doctor ordered. This was an easy find, made a small swap and signed the log. TFTC!
With the easing of the lock down restrictions it was great to get back out to Namadji. Seems that many others felt the same as the track was busy, but not crazy so... well... the wearing of active wear was a little crazy by so many, so much lycra!
So with GreyHams we made the trip out and it was a great day to be out. Happy in my boots and jeans as seemed fitting it was good to be in the area and stretch the legs and enjoy just being out enjoying the day, and indeed it was a pleasant relaxing day.
My first visit out here so the letterbox trail was a good start, a little boggy in the beggining, but not for long. The views are great from Square rock and Orroral Valley lookout and so glad to finally get there... its a great walk.
Finishing the walk off with Square Stones Son was a little off track fun. Lots of hidden loose rocks under the bracken that made it hard to see where your feet went. It made for interesting going but a gentle easing back into what has been a long inactive time, definitely did some good being out here! TFTC!!!
Have been wanting to come out here for so long and great to finally do it. Lots of people climbing and exploring the rocks and they are quite cool. Cache found first in a quieter area and looking at the log it seems to get a few accidental finds perhaps looking at the logs but all good with it! Up to explore the top and the views, it's a great spot here.

Now with the parks open and no guilty feelings about walking around up here, it felt fitting to come out and do a longish walk with Aquilus1. Super busy up here with young people in their active wear, not looking like they have ever sweated.
Started with the LBH I had missed last time before stopping at all the others so Aquilus1 could sign, certainly very different to last time I was up here.
Views from up the top at Square Rock and the Orroral viewpoint were pretty good, well worth the trip.
The detour down the the Square Sons was difficult, but that might have just been our conditioning.....need to regain our 'Tennant Tough'.

A nice day before the rain is due to return, so went for a walk up to this one. It must be at least 20 years since I was here. Snow here and there on the way increasing as I got closer to the end. The whole area at the end before the ladder was slippery ice and it was quite dangerous getting up to the top. Before attempting this, I went looking for the cache which was spotted quickly - just had to make sure I didn't slip on the ice while retrieving!
Cache all good.
Cache all good.
This was one of my three target caches today. I haven't been up here since the fires (or, in fact, since the track was realigned!) so it was pleasant to revisit today. Great views as always and an icy wind coming off the mountains.
Cache was located quickly in a straightforward hiding spot and is in good, dry condition.
For whatever reason (perhaps I am a time traveller, or more likely I can't read the date on my phone correctly) I have future-signed the log as 29 May, and did so for the remainder of my caches today. Sigh...
Thanks, Tankengine.

With BonEm on a beautiful Autumn day which really was perfect for a hike to Square Stone.
The hike in was pretty easy, with a few muggles on the trail.
We Loved the different vegetation, along with the well made trail, which had a combination of rocky features along its path, with rock steps on the steeper bits.
Once at GZ, we took about 20 mins sunning ourselves on a nice slab of rock, enjoying the view and a cup of well deserved joe.
We waited for a muggle to leave and then the hunt began. Clue was useful and the cache in its hiding spot was soon spotted.
Cache and log book in good order.
Thankyou TE and MTS for placing and maintaining this hide.
Gets a fav from me.

Anzac Day caching. Lest we forget. This is a very popular walk, lots of people go up here for some fresh air and awesome views, even a family who took a gas bottle to cook a small BBQ. A smart idea on a beautiful day. I think we saw the CC jet from the distance. The hint was spot on and so were the coordinates so it was a relatively easy find. Tftc
I went to Square Rock a couple of weeks ago but didn't log it then. It's Lways an impressive sight here! It was a bit crowded at the top and there were some geokiddies looking about also, but I snuck in an found the cache while their parents were still marshalling them.
I tried for Square Stone's Sons also, but hadn't the time for the much more precarious approach to those - that'll have to wait for another trip!

Wonderful walk and a lovely day for it, thanks to Aussiepuschaks for taking me out here TFTC
Perfect day for a hike, I've done this walk many times but never actually found any of the caches here. Found with JeganMessie, this is one of my favorite spots in Canberra.
Thanks Tankengine and Matt the Splat

Had a really good walk up to this lookout. Was looking in the completely wrong places for ages until we decided to trust the GPS and there the cache was.
Had a lot of fun exploring the rocks around, and climbing up and down.

A delightful walk and Father’s Day lunch today atop Square Stone with my 3 kids and special guest Tankengine!
Did most of this track a week ago, but after completing the hard slog of the McKeahnie Toughest Challenge double, on the way back it was decided the smart move was to head straight to the carpark and complete Square Stone another day.
Today I felt vindicated by that decision and allowing the time to properly enjoy this one, complete with picnic lunch and a bottle of wine while taking in the spectacular views from our secluded vantage point next to Square Rock itself.
Favourite point for so many reasons. The views, the incredibly unhealthy and delicious picnic, the great company, the views (twice on purpose!), and not least of all, three teenagers who did not whinge once for the entire day. (Miracles do happen...)
And yes, I do recommend to bring wine if you are that way inclined. Cheers to all the great caching dads out there.

A cache from June 2006! Almost 13 years old. I was glad to visit this historic site today - the site where (from what I understand) DSD caught the caching bug, back in the summer of 14/15.
At first I was too high, then I changed altitude and saw summat suspicious.
TFTC TE!
After finding the geocache, I rockhopped to a panoramic location and soaked on the vista and some good ol' sunlight.

Busier than Pitt St that main track up to the Square Rock this sunny Sunday. But we were very fortunate to have the rocks to ourselves for a good ten minutes to admire the views, before we yielded to a large, chatty group of more senior walkers from Gisborne, Victoria. It was very windy, so I was happy to sit below the rocks on a fallen branch, perfectly positioned in the sun., and eat a sandwich. It also gave me good ingres to the cache, and being 5 foot nothing, I didn't have to heed the hint.
One the way in and out, I scoped out an approach to the more recent geocache placed out here... but today I had neither the desire, determination or doggedness for a scrub bash, and decided to stay on track... besides, I had already soaked in the main attraction.
Left a TB, "Mystic Marble"... I am sure she will enjoy the magic, mystic and cosmic of this place. TFTC TankEngine, a favourite

Out today with the CO to do a little cache maintenance.
After parking in the car park, it was an easy walk, following the path all the way to GZ.
The walk to Square Rock was straightforward enough. I really liked what we called “Sandwich Rock” (not sure if it has an official name), but it looked pretty cool which was on the way.
Square Rock however was awesome. The area is lots of fun and the views are great!. I really like where the cache is hidden too. Simple, yet effective.
After playing around all over the rocks we went off and hid another cache not so nearby. It was a bit of a bush bash and clamber to get to the right place, but it was very nice once we got there.
Favouriote point for this one though! Thanks for bringing me to another fabulous place and of course tftc Tankengine!!!

Left the carpark at 6:30am for a solo bushwalk to Square Rock, which was a great time of day for it, as I had it all to myself. After taking in the views for a while, I got down to business & poked around following my scatty GPS. Thanks to the hint, I recognised GZ when I saw it & it was a quick find. TFTC, my favourite so far!
The main objective for the day, a return to the amazing Square Rock. Left home around 6.30am, a few others finds also planned along the way. Started with clear skies on departure but a light rain from the South appeared before I'd left Gungahlin, cloudy skies followed the remainder of the drive. Parking in an empty car park hit the trail picking up a few 'Letterboxes' and the elusive 'Orroral Overview' along the way. Blue skies opening then as I approached the rocky outcrop. First one out there for the day, I had the place to myself.
Now, what to do? Find the cache then take in the views, or explore the rocks and seek the prize after. Went with a search for the sort after container, hoping clear skies would remain (which they did). Had received a healthy tip from a previous finder, so after working out the Z factor, soon had CIH. Took then the opportunity for a look around, taking in the X Y and Z.
Muggles approached, could hear them chatting a mile away. They settled on the ledge above, I was still exploring the levels below. Eventually I returned to the stairway and continued a more detailed examination of the boulders about.
Time then for photos, videos, a celebratory beer and a jump or two back and forth across the gaping chasm (before the beer). Muggles eventually left and I had the place to myself again. Took it all in for another 15 minutes then it was time to move on. Hit the track, passing a number of muggle groups coming the other way, made it back to the geomobile in 52 minutes.
Decided to tackle a few more caches along Corin Road until I got annoyed with the GPS and the interference with the tree tops above.
A great morning, back home just on 1.30pm. Favourite added. TNLNSL TFTC

I'm falling behind on logging my finds (too many drafts sitting there), so I'm just doing some generic ones to get up to date.
Generic logs are not ideal, but they don't mean I don't appreciate the efforts all the relevant COs have put into placing them. I really do! TFTC

Not too hard to find, and I even helped my co-walkers kids find it themselves! TFTC tankengine
On my weekend getaway down in Canberra visiting a mate and taking in the Songlines exhibition at the museum we made some time to get outdoors and sample some ACT scenery. Had a great time out and really enjoyed the views up here! After waiting for a family group to move along it didn't take long to find the cache and complete the day. TFTC!
Hiding in the rocks and away from the wind was a lovely joy to find amongst todays adventures.

Didn't believe we would find the cache with no phone signal but moved around a bit and logged on for a few seconds so could work out approx how many meters away we were. The hint helped in the end but the dead tree limb, that I hit my head on, was a good decoy!
.Still frosty and a thickly ice sheeted pool (still frozen after midday) had formed in the shallow puddle on Square rock just metres from the cache.
Great cache thanks Tankengine. Can't get away from your excellent caches in the Canberra region.

For someone who suffers from vertigo this one was a bit of a challenge.
The walk was lovely. We headed off around 11:20ish with a party of five. With the Geokids in tow we enjoyed the non stop chatter from the kids and enjoyed the hike to GZ. I was expecting the walk to be a little more challenging however is was very pleasant.
The Coords were spot on and the cache was located easy enough. With our names in the log book we enjoyed the sun on the rocks whilst having some lunch. We were even blessed with watching a wedge tail eagle assent through the thermals right in front of us.
On the way back the geo Kids were a tad tired and The females of the group speared off to take a look at Oracle Overview.
All up we were back at the car by 3 which for a little 5 year old having 10+kms under his belt in one day, we did alright.

Power walked it to Square rock from the last one to catch the last rays of sunshine. Wow, what a fantastic bit of granite and I had the whole place to myself! Left the cache for the moment and started playing on granite and exploring. I loved it, watched the sky turn color as I sat on the granite and took in the vast landscape before me. The lights of Canberra started to glisten in the distance as the stars started to come out. I sat on the edge and dangled my feet off the edge and really didn't want to leave...
Eventually it was down to business, found a likely spot and soon had the cache in hand. Wonder how many people have hit their head on the rock, glad to say I didn't . Signed the log and then went back to sit on the edge of the dark abyss as the sun had finally disappeared. The daredevil in me wanted to jump that gap, but decided that could end quite badly so decided to be safe and boring.
Such a great spot and not that hard to get to, loved it, loved it, loved it ! Thanks Tankengine

Found it with our party of usual geokiddies and some newly introduced muggles. Was quite a search, but the photo helped us. Dropped a travel bug to continue its journey. Hooray!
So many muggles today, difficult to explore. Found during a quiet period - tftc!
Found with hash-brown. Dropped trackable. Great place that I've visited many times! Heaps of muggles today, but still easy to retrieve. TFTC
Second cache for the day.
After the long walk here from Ski Sight we were surprised to see muggles at GZ. Luckily one of them already had a vague idea of what geocaching is, so it didn't stop us. After the cache was logged we stayed for a while enjoying the fantastic views.

So many fantastic locations in Namadgi, and this one is right up there. Would be great to come up in winter if there was snow about.
When we got to ground zero here there was a couple of bushwalkers, who I explained geocaching too. We might have a couple of new recruits!

Checked the hint, and then proceeded to hit my head. Ouch. TFTC, easy to get safely even with a dozen muggles lunching up top.
4648. A lovely stroll on Australia Day with Relish64 and Chalk It Up. After checking out the great views, it was down to caching business and this one soon turned up.

We went out of a hike to square stone and found the cache while we were there. Cheers
We had about 5 weeks of holiday and thought about, where to go. Will it be Argentina or Hawaii or where to go? Once we remembered on Australia – yeah – for a trip going there we would need that plenty of time!
In short – a few weeks later sitting in the aircraft with final destination Sydney, where we started our trip down under. Spending half week there, we were then flying up to Cairns and heading all the way back south until Melbourne, visiting a lot of National Parks with stunning views, crystal clear water, sandy beaches and impenetrably rainforest. There have been a lot of highlights – e.g. visiting Mossmann Gorge, the Whitsunday Islands, Carnavon National Park, Natural Bridge & Lamington National Park south of Brisbane, Wilson Prom NP and of course – the Great Ocean Road.
Some Aussies told us, that never saw a wild koala within the last 10 years and we were lucky to see koalas on 2 spots, the second time with over 10 species. Luckily we didn’t met one of the dangerous animals – only a baby shark, but this had been caught by a fishing-rod. Unfortunately also a lot of dead kangaroos – I would estimate nearly 500 in different states of decomposition.
So we really enjoyed the trip to Australia and of course also did some geocaches, which had been on our way, including some special ones from the year 2000! Luckily the weather was fine for most time – in sum it was a great holiday.
Today we went to the Namadgi National Park – visiting first the Gibraltar Falls and later walked up to the Square Rock. Arriving there we first thought, that it wouldn’t be that interesting – just saw some large stones in the forest, before arriving at the spectacular cliff! What an amazing view – that was just great! Thanks for showing this place!

Headed out to Square Rock today testing out my new Garmin GPS. Enjoyed jumping round the rocks exploring and locating Square Stone Cache. Cheers
A rather nice afternooon so a group of friends and i went for a short ewalk to square rock just because we could. I think reflecting back on it the car travel there took longer then the walk as we had to go via tharwa. When we did eventually get to the car park we headed off. It was muddy on the trail but otherwise it was quite plesent. the second half had a fair bit of snow lying around although for the most part the track was clear. We got to square rock without any dramas and sat around enjoying the sun and the views. It was quite plesent. The cache was simple to find once I pulled out my proper GPS and did away with the phone, although I must say it seems like a small regular cache. Also seems to be a busy cache it's ben found quite a lot the last couple of days.
The walk back to the car was just as uneventful and nice. I did consider ducking down to the nearby orroral overview cache but decided the sun was getting a bit low. Plus it will give me incentive to return

Saturday 18 July 2015 - a magnificant sunny crisp winter's early afternoon, a brilliant blue sky and a few whispy clouds. With muggle son we went to Corin Forest hoping to ride the bob sled. Unfortunately it was out of action so headed to Square Rock just past the locked gates. Walked 8.5 km return in 2 hours and found the one cache. Great walk in the crisp air as there was no breeze but plenty of snow around to enjoy particularly close to the top where it was more that 10cm deep and widespread. Great hide that's worth a favourite point. Have been here many times over the years so it was a quick and easy find. Thx Lucian. TFTC.
The kids were desperate to see the snow and I was desperate to avoid the crowds at Corin so we did the hike to Square Rock. We had an absolute ball on the way up - plenty of snow fights!....the trip down was not quite as fun as tired legs kicked in...The cache itself was an easy find and the kids enjoyed finding some swaps! TFTC.
Found it and you guess it, I turned around after signing the logbook and banged my head on the rock. OUCH..!!!
Found this on a walk to Square Rock. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we could not see the view. Left a trackable in this cache.

I joined a 'meetup' bush walking group that was heading this way today. We left the car park soon after 8am, and went straight to Square Rock, arriving soon after 9am. We didn't spend long here before we were ushered onwards - I didn't have enough time to find the cache. After visiting the Orroral Lookout, we headed back down. At 10am, the group split at the turn off to the Smokers Trail. That was my opportunity to head back here at my own pace and find the cache. It seemed a pity to come all this way and leave empty handed. Besides the walk was shorter/quicker than I'd expected and I wanted more exercise. I arrived back at Square Rock, around 1040, and soon had the cache in hand. I then sat on top to admire the view and have some lunch. I was visited by a falcon, which eyed me up for a few seconds (not long enough to catch on camera unfortunately), and then flew past within 3 metres of me - awesome. At 1100 I headed back down arriving a the car park at 1145. I managed a few photos of lizards on the way back down. Having recently arrived in Australia, this was my first proper bush walk. A great morning out. TFTC.
This was on our radar for this weekend so after packing up the campsite we pulled into the carpark and were on our way. The track certainly sees a lot of visitors based on the register entries! Spotted a few orchids along the way and a single brown snake who was not budging from the path - we carefully made our way around although it was less than impressed with us! The walk was surprisingly easy - we had been told it was steep but I guess that may have been the old trail? A lovely stroll through beautiful bushland and then we reached the rocks. Spectacular vistas on a clear day. We explored a bit, found the cache, then had a bite to eat. Plenty of rocks to clamber over and eventually we headed back down. This was a great walk and should be accessible to just about everyone! We would like to come back again and do it in the snow .

Tftc. Gorgeous day for a visit. Lots of other people in the area. Some were even hiking in sandshoes with a couple of inches of snow.
Found on Wednesday lsst week.
It was a lovely sunny day up here while in town it was shrouded in fog. I almost got sunburnt.
Plenty of snow around. Well over 30cms in places.
Well worth the effort for snowy walk.
Thanks

Found on a walk with the Canberra Bushwalking Club and my son Michael. We headed out early and were rewarded with great views from the rock. Soon had the CIH and LBS. I didn't grab the other cache at Orroral Overview as I didn't know the walk would take us there Will have to come back to grab some more of these caches. Thanks again TE
Nice walk up to the rock, and and interesting location for the cache. We had some friends with us who thought that Geocaching sounded like quite a lot of fun, and may well join up.
My 300th find!!! What a great cache to do for my 300th! Great views and wonderful area! Thanks!
Great spot for a cache. Have been up here a few times before I got into geocaching. Nice to know there's a cache up here too!
When finally got reception figured had to be something hiding in this magnificent rockscape and sure enough after a bit of climbing up and down found the GZ. Awesome timeout in the mountains. TFTC
Found this bad boy on a vist to the square rock area. In typical fashion, we made it harder than it had to be and ended up crawling all the way under the rock into the little overhand /cave. Note for future caches. It does not have to be that difficult and take the clue literally (as in the first time you watch your head).

#2 for the morning, a nice easy walk from our previous find. Greeted by terrific views across the range, love these spots. Spent some time scratching around close to GZ however our trusty buddy Sammy found the prize while Bruce's Run and Keswick Kid flounded around on their bellies under a "HUGE" suspended boulder. Again, as with the previous cache, we snapped some photo's before re-visiting our plans to move up Mount Mckeahnie. with the weather looking a little dicey we elected to return to the Gibralter area where there were four or so we wanted to find. The second beautiful view for the day, always so much extra rewarding when you've tracked through close bush and then come across them suddenly. As noted by Bruces Run and Mosaic 1212 We made this so much harder with spiders in the hair and cave bottom dust in the belly button! Still what's a day out in the bush for if you don't need a really good shower and a few running repairs to skin and clothing afterwards!
Great photos of the gang looking braver than they were close o steep edges taken for prosperity, a review of plans to take mount Mckeanie due to the weather and off we went leaving the rock to a bunch of brownies (small girls under the age of seven) -made me question our fortitude and a quick desire to revisit the assault on mt MCkeanie!

What a great location! I did think it was interesting that this cache wasn't logged since April and today it was logged three times despite all the muggles!!!
After a No Find of Orroral Overview, then a bush bash to Find McKeahnie Minor, a pleasure to get back on the track to Square Rock. Still 7 muggles + me in the party but, again, I found this one myself. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/Pages/Walk%20Descriptions/2014_01_11.html . TFTC.
[blue]After finding my 200th I was glad to get my 201st. I cache with a lovely view.

It was a lovely day for a walk - not hot nor raining although we did get wet on the legs from the udergrowth and it was oisty and cool at the top. I did MMH byt DNF. I wonder if Was looking in the wrong place or just n9ot seeing - like the person back in March. And since I am on last day visiting from Melbourne - Bother!
Nice walk with a nice view as a reward. Done with the geofamily, and although the 5 yr old had just enough, he managed to walk the 10 km on his own. Picked up Canadian beaver TB. TFTC.
An amazing fathers day hike to this location - very cold and windy, but beautiful views and a perfect place for a cache. Dropped a TB and picked up a TB and GC. TFTC!
Took as bunch of scouts up to Square rock today as part of Jamboree On The Trail (JOTT).
Beautiful day though still quite cold. Windy at the top which made it a bit colder.
Great spot for a cache and amazing views from here. Got me TE path tag too. Wooo hoo.
