Well well I think I have it right now - could not figure out where to enter the fact that we attended this event. It was FANTASTIC - you should have all been here - what a great day to finally meet some of the faces behind the names on the computer screen. Thanks ever so much to the HawMorFords for all their very hard work - the medals were wonderful - they went to school for show and tell the very next day. Thank you so much for all your efforts - and for pointing out to me I entered the visit in the wrong spot!!

Dropped Coins back in - could the holder of these coins please grab them from here!

A BIG thank you to everyone that attended the G-Olympics.

It was your enthusiasm, participation and sense of fun that made the day a great success.

We will be posting details of all the events and some photos as soon as we can get to it but in the meantime, go to the following link to download a full resolution JPG file of the group shot.

I had a great time at the event! It was good to meet up with everyone again and big thanks go to the HawMorFords for organising the day’s events. GeoTiff and Dutchy also enjoyed themselves immensely.

I look forward to the next event and will see everyone again there.

many thanks to the HawMorFords for a great day.Big Grin

30-Jul-06
What great timing that we should be near Brisbane on the weekend that the G-Olympics were on. We enjoyed meeting you all and watching and participating in the games. Bruce is particularly proud of his bronze medal though he was complaining about few sore spots next morning (nothing that a good walk up a hill after a cache wont fix). Thanks to HawMorFords for running and planning the day so very well and for the warm welcome we were extended.

Please feel free to log our meeting against our travel bug if you wish. Take it out of this cache but please replace it to this one as well. If you need the number please phone us on our mobile which can be found in our profile.

thanks Dan

I had a great time at a very well organised event. Had my 3 year old with me who couldnt stay away from the play equipment which meant we started the first event a little late. After an interesting wander around the Rafting Ground area we were much more informed about Winter Olympics (although I think it was definately hot enough to be the Summer Olympics....) Ryan was quite tired by then and happily stayed at G-Olympic central while I tried to get the rest of the Co-ords. A big thankyou to Denise(HawMorFords) and Caroline(Crew153) for looking after Ryan for me. And also congratulations to all those involved in setting up the G-Olympics.
Dropped off Adventures with Bill TB & Keep on Trackin Geocoin for the Cache.
PS I think the Nanks had the best team support..(matching shirts and all)

Well after today’s effort the IOC may be calling on the HawMorFords in an advisory roll for future games Wink
The effort you guys went to was extraordinary and I’m sure all will agree that the result was a fantastic event in a great location on a beautiful day.
It was good to see a lot of the old hands still just as keen as ever and meeting up with a lot of the newcomers was another big plus.
Anyway once again from MR & Mrs Brummy, thanks to Peter, Denise and the kids (The HawMorFords) for a top day. Big GrinBig Grin

30-Jul-06

We (Clip Clop and myself) could only attend for an all to brief time today...but from what I experienced ..it was fantastic.

It was great to meet up with fellow cachers....those who before today were merely names upon a page.

Peter, Denise and the rest of the crew that make up the HawMorFords must be heartly congratulated for time and effort put in to making today such a wonderful event. The attention to details eg medals, olympic flame, name badges etc all added to the colour, excitment and fun of the day.

It will certainly be the yardstick for future events Smile

Many thanks....from this team your efforts were very much appreciated.

Also special thanks to Kanako who very kindly translated for our Japanese student.

30-Jul-06
Wow! What a day!! I must admit that I was exhausted by lunch time. Maybe it was the sack race that did it?

This is a really beautiful area out here and is just ideal for an event - well picked Hawmorfords.

It was really nice to catch up with you all and for those of you I hadn't met - it was great to put a face to the name.

If you were wondering why 'The Garner Family' wasn't a family... it was because one of the kids has just come down with chicken pox, makaing them all contagious. Mrs Garner drew the short straw & was very disappointed to have to miss the event.

Thanks to the hawmorfords for organising the day & thanks to everyone for making it so memorable... we eagerly look forward to the next one.

30-Jul-06
Thanks for the great day. Well organised event will see you all again soon.

30-Jul-06
Thank's to the HawMorFords and everyone who attended the olympics. A fun way to spend the day and meet up with you all. A great way to stay healthy too with the 3km run, 100m sackrace and blindfolded geometry lessons Big Grin

30-Jul-06
Had a great time today as others have said great to meet some of the old hands and new ones as well faces to names now I know who you are trying to look inconspicuous in the local park.
Many thanks go to peter and Denise for organising a great day. Got a couple of more cache ideas as well.

30-Jul-06
Thank you for a good day it was great to see so many people there and having a good time thank you cant wait until the next time

30-Jul-06
What a fantastic day. It looked like it was going to get even better when we thought we'd lost two kids at the end. Unfortunately, the HawMorFords felt obliged to find them. Rats. It was really great to put faces to the names we've come to know over the web. Thank you, HawMorFords for a great event and for all of the effort you put into this to make the day such a success. Now, back to that #### chess thingo....

Regards,

Pseudo-Geek.

30-Jul-06
We had a fabulous day with wonderful people. Big Grin From the meet and greet, through the Delegates Dash, Sack Races, 3-legged Races, Geowhispers, Peg-Out to the final Treasure Hunt, it was a gala day! All four NANKS had a terrific time and now when we speak of people as though we know them.....we actually do!

The Geo-Boys proudly held the medals on the way home amid much animated discussion about the highlights of the day. (and there were many!)

The only downside is for MR NANKS who is sporting a rather ugly looking swollen knee with hessian burn! I've often told him to be careful not to trip over his sack. Red Face

Thanks again HawMorFords! You obviously put in a huge effort to organise a flowing, funfilled day that involved cachers great and small. Big Grin

(photos are on their way)

30-Jul-06
Had a great time! Thanks very much for the day!

30-Jul-06
Thank you to the HawMorFords family for a great day. It was fantastic to meet other geo-cachers and talk about caches we have all done and the many more exciting ones yet to find. You put in a fantastic effort so congratulations!
Hope to see you all again at the next one.

30-Jul-06
Thanks to everyone for making our virtual friendships into real ones today. Congratulations to the HawMorFords for a super organising effort and to all the medal winners. (sorry about those Chinese whispers Tom. Guess I need a memory upgrade)
Mrs Lat&Long and I had a great day, even if we didn't have team uniforms or a personalised number plate.
See you all in the logs,
Lat&Long Junkie

30-Jul-06
Although the Crew could not stay for the whole day we must congratulate Peter, Denise and all the family for a great event. The organision was supurb and the attention to detail was remarkable.

Once again it was great to see so many new faces to put to the names and also to renew old acqantances. It was also good to see some out of towners attending.

Congratulations go, not only to all the medal winners but to all the event participants as they are the ones who made the day.

We would have loved to spend more time with you all and hope to catch up with you all again at the next event.

And thanks also the Lt Sniper for bringing my caching bag home. That GPS is living a charmed life lately.

30-Jul-06
Congratulations to the HawMorFords what a HUGE and successful event you organised Thanks to all involved and all you other crazy geocachers.Wink

Unfortunately our plans have been changed and we will have to miss the event. We hope everybody has good time and the best of luck to all the competitors.

24-Jul-06
Hopefully I can arrange a team entry but I cant see any reason why I wont be there. Am very much looking forward to this event, as usual.

24-Jul-06
Hi there,

Mr & Mrs Lat&Long Junkie will be there. No youngins, just a couple of mature aged kids.

We don't have to wear our "G" do we?

24-Jul-06
The Crew are planning on being there. May have to leave before the closing ceremony. Will have to let someone else blow out the flame.

23-Jul-06
Ozzie-Jeeper and the(not-so)Lil-Jeepers cant attent this one... Unfortunalty we have Qld Jeep Club commitments. Being the VP of that club i dont think a no-show at that one would be appreciated.

Have fun.

Can some-one put appologies in for me on the day please.

23-Jul-06
The Winter G-Olympics are drawing near !

Thanks to everyone for the fantastic response and support received to date - we're looking forward to it too !

We thought it might be a good idea to post a note to tell everyone a little of the days format.

We have scheduled the day’s main event to kick off at 09:30 am sharp, so an arrival of 0900 or even a little earlier would give you plenty of time to set up etc. before the day gets underway.

The first event will probably take one to one and a half hours.

This event is a single GPS event and therefore the minimum entry requirement is one GPS and one team member though you could certainly take the whole family along if you choose.

There will be a number of other team and single player events throughout the the day with a break of about 2 hours allowed for lunch and general socialising.

The schedule will be fairly fluid as it will depend on the number of people participating in each event.

If you have any queries, please post them in the forum and we’ll do our best to answer them.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

19-Jul-06

Q. are other countries allowed to compete?
Looks like North Queensland may send a team ...
I will be down your way - so will endeavour to make an appearance (unfortunately will be by myself) ... but I hear that another mob from up this way (Mackay) may also be attending ... their appearance yet to be confirmed ... but I hear they are in training [^]

13-Jul-06
My wife, daughter, and I will do our best to make it. Our daughter is 18 months, so we'll be keeping her on a short leash Big Grin

Well whadda you know, If has the day off Smile
I like the sound of powellbruce's suggestion as an event Big Grin

27-Jun-06
Hi Folks ! It's great to see so much interest at such an early stage though as the games draw near, we are interested in getting a little more detail.

At your convenience, would you please advise the numbers you expect to attend. In particular, we are interested in the young ones. Please let us know how many will attend, their age and whether boy or girl.

Just a guide at this stage is all we are after, so therefore feel free to bring along any ring-ins, but we are keen to ensure the kids are involved and have fun.

25-Jun-06
I should be able to make it. I have not really been around much in the past year or so but it is great to see that geocaching is still active around Brisbane.

20-Jun-06
The MadMyers would love to be there. Will require some begging off of an already booked fund raising event but the Geo Wife will do her best. She is already committed to all day Saturday and Saturday night so we think missing Sunday should be an option. So count us in for at least 3 hopefully all four. Well done and congratulations and thanks for organising this. Sounds GREAT!!

16-Jun-06
Hmmm. Bit worried about the waypoint for the cache.

GCWETC = GeoCache Wet Conditions??? We hope not. I can't see the older Doherty team members going the distance on a heavy track.

We should be along in reasonable numbers although perhaps in two tranches to accomodate number two son's rowing training.

12-Jun-06
Given that this is so close to home how could we refuse?
It does however sound like we will need a few wheelchair events to placate the plodders amongst us.Wink
See you all there Razz

All being well I should be there. I will b e avoiding the event that requires a full camping pack to carried through nearly trackless rainforests and on a mountain side.[:p]

11-Jun-06
Hopefully a critter or two will make it

11-Jun-06
Our first event Big Grin We have checked the calendar and it's free!! We are really looking forward to it. We will try to get our mates "The Balds" and the "HappyHarries" to come along too. The competition will be the winner. Can't wait to put some faces to the names that are so famous in our household.

09-Jun-06
Checked the schedule, and I thought it was on the same weekend as the Bi-annual VW Spectacular in Nambucca Heads...but thats the weekend after, so we'll be there....Smile

08-Jun-06
Ahhh.... Now that the HawMorFords social secretary has spoken and the Olympics are now on Sunday it will need further consultation with the Crew 153 Social Secretary and the Deco Diary. Will get back to you soon....

Hopefully Team DiveDiveDive will be able to do their famous 100 metre dash again...Razz

Sorry but Saturdays are out for us and DecoTwistedSad. Pity, it looks like a great event.

Re the Teams / Events

Teams can be of any size and of any age though kids should be in a team with at least one adult.

Some events will be more suited to teams that have more than one player, some events will be great for kids and some events will be just fine for a single adult.

Each team will need a GPS.

The event list is not finalised as yet but we will try to have a good range of events so that everyone has a few events to enter and have some fun.

07-Jun-06
Woohoo - looks exciting. Let me be the first to say that we'll attend.

Just a clarification on the team thing - Will Mr & Mrs Garner & two of the kids (8 & 6) count as a team, or do all team members need to be able to operate a GPS & run around by themselves?
