This is one of the five oldest active letterbox caches in Australia. We were targeting this cache today.
Beautiful scenery and geology! A slightly tricky walk in too. We were greeted with splendid views and then started our search.
Unfortunately we left empty handed after 30 minutes of searching.

I camped at Lake Barrington the night before. As I has arrived late to Cradle Mt yesterday I went back earlier today to hopefully reach the top. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as good as yesterday, strong winds and the temperature changing from hot to cold quite frequently, so I only went so far up.
After my high altitude adventure I went on to find some in a better climate. The D rating also called me here.
Thanks for the cache.

an animal has chewed through the container and the log was soggy. I dont think it was the small slug that had slimed its way inside.
Mr W headed out caching with Mr T from Tassie Trekkers in the Leven Canyon. It was a great walk with spectacular views along the way. This was one of 8 caches targeted today. Unfortunately 2 were dnfs but we managed to find this one. TFTC
Taking advantage of the long weekend, I wandered down to the river, quite surprised to find a slot canyon! Also found that this is part of the PCT, a trail I had heard mentioned but never knew where it was. Following the river through the rainforest, it was great to see some ladders, scrambles and sheer drips into the river. GZ was the top of the sights, took me a little while to work out the sharp bend was the same river! Cache easy to find, but getting a bit with a hole in the lid. TFTC!!!!!
Out on a day trip going to Leven Canyon then the NW. Definitely worth the short hike along to here, such a scenic location at GZ which I wouldn't have seen without this cache here. Was great looking through the old logs and seeing that a couple of the pieces of swag were put in here way back in '06.
Thanks for this top cache

Having often looked at the cache up higher, Not for the Faint Hearted and this one we knew we wanted to make a visit but it was sounding a full day trip which on our previous visits to Tassie we did not have.
So this trip now out of winter officially we planned the visit.
Driving in there was still some snow on the peak to the south and it’s was slippery under foot.
Down into the canyon we went, great views of the rapid water at the bridge and then shortly afterwards at the Devils Elbow.
Fortunately we made a quick find and completed the signing duties and re hiding was we could continue along the track to the next one. TFTC

A wonderful way to spend the week in Tasmania with friends. Gorgeous walk. Thoroughly enjoyed the find. TFTF. My first letterbox find. Amazing location. Dreading the walk back!
Another day of sightseeing and hiking. Our goal today was Leven Canyon, although we had the occasional detour. Many thanks for bringing us to this stunning area. We got to within 100 m of gz and felt uncomfortable with the slipperyness of the track and an area of track which looked very unstable. We didn’t want to risk it, but loved the views to this point. Thanks for the challenge
Today we'd ventured out to show visiting Tronador the Leven Canyon plus a spot of caching thereabouts. After doing the touristy thing at the lookouts we headed a little further down the road to the start of the track to the canyon floor. This is a very easy walk along a good track down as far as the bridge over the river. After the bridge one finds oneself on the Penguin Cradle Trail which is a little bit rougher, particularly at a point nearing the Elbow where the track has been eroded somewhat. However it is still readily traversed with a modicum of care.
Thence we were soon at the cache locale with its excellent close up view of the river at the Elbow - especially on such a lovely warm sunny day. Almost tempted for a dip in the river. Almost. The cache was an easy find and is in good condition albeit the box has been chewed through at one corner by some rascally critter. Top cache location Forthferalz.

Not sure what all that issue is about additional waypoints from the reviewer but this is a traditional cache. There are no additional wpts. The listed coords take you to the cache. This is exactly where we found it. This was my favourite cache today and my most favourite part of Leven Canyon. A great challenging bit of terrain along this walk. Thoroughly enjoyed the outlook at GZ and we spent a bit of time here. Altaire had walked here before but as a visitor this was my first time. Awesome cache.
We had the amazing experience of seeing a devil (Tassie version) on the track as we made our way to the Devil's Elbow!!!
We loved the river up close, but the trail was quite difficult in places (especially for those in our family who did not inherit the "mountain goat" gene!).
...but definitely worth the effort on a lovely sunny day.

Found on our Trip around Tasmania in Dec / Jan...
Thanks for all the caches and showing us a lot of lovley places on this fantastic Island
Thanks for all the caches and showing us a lot of lovley places on this fantastic Island
Great walk to find this cache today. The path appeared to have been washed away at one point so a bit of scrambling was involved. Nothing too hairy though. Evidence of high water dumping logs and sticks just beyond GZ last winter. A fantastic spot for a cache. Lovely views. Cache still in good condition in spite of a few nibble holes in the box. Took the happy birthday badge and the pen which didn't work and left a good working pen from wyboston lakes, UK. Seemed appropriate as we are on a special holiday celebrating our 60th birthdays. (Both of us turn 60 in Jan 2017. ) Front seat rider works at or near wyboston lakes. Will follow up letterbox contact with an email. TFTC. Has to have a favourite point.
Find during my roadtrip in Tasmania, many hiking through national parks, and also caches roadsides. Thank you to all cachers in the area

A really nice place - and a well protected cache in very good condition! TFTC - signed the log but TNLN. Not a bad one for my 150th
Found on our caching and caravanning long weekender.
We were lucky to have fine weather to descend to the canyon floor. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk and the beautiful surroundings. Found cache which is in good condition and admired the view. The river was flowing swiftly and provided many photo opportunities. Thanks for bringing us here - we will be adding this cache to our favourites list - a top location and well worth the visit. TFTC

We drove up the the Leven Canyon with the intention of hiking up Black Bluff. However because we did not set off early from Pioneer Park we realised that this was overly ambitious and meant that we could not enjoy the canyon itself. So we opted to see Devils Elbow and do the Fern and Lookout walks instead. This part of the walk was very exciting with the bridge and scrambling around the rocks. There was plenty of water rushing through too, thanks to the recent rain. Thanks for the cache. A favourite for its terrain, view of the river and being a letter box cache.
There was very heavy fog over the land at Gunns Plains as we drove to the Leven Canyon today. We were wondering if the gorge would also be in fog. However, on arrival it was a perfect day - clear blue skies, warm sun and a lovely bush smell from the overnight dew on the leaf litter. We set off down the Leven Canyon Floor Track and were surprised at the work that has been completed since our last visit. It was a good track before with well designed steps but the additional rope handrails at strategic points were welcomed. There was a fairly strong flow of water down through the canyon this morning - quite spectacular but, we guess not as spectacular as when it is in flood. Having crossed the bridge (the furthest we had come before) we started along the tracks to Gunns Plains and saw a variety of fungi along the way. The vivid colours of the mosses were also an bonus of the walk. After a period of time, which included a little scrambling up and down rocks, we got near GZ. Our GPS units were very reluctant to settle down - at one time they would be indicating that we were within a couple of metres of the cache and then without moving, we were 30m away. So, the hint was a great help. We didn't know the names of the features around us but some educated guesses narrowed the options and a find was made. The cache and contents were in good condition. We opted out of going on the very steep climb to "Not For The Faint Hearted" today but now that we have surveyed the area, we will return at some time to tackle the next cache along the track. The cache at Blackwwod Camp, however, may be beyond our experience level. Thanks for bringing us to this wonderful spot forthferalz and TFTC.
Always great to log a cache whilst enjoying these amazing walks and stunning places. Our first letterbox cache so hope we do it right. What an amazing spot......thanks forthferalz for bringing us here. [^] A favourite point from us.

After doing the steps at the canyon Brucie got to do this one alone except he met up with a girl doing the walk and encourage her to come and do the cache. She was happy to have company to do the hard bit with. My sister who is visiting from Adelaide and myself relaxed in comfy chairs and read for an hour between enjoying the view. Awesome location. Thanks forthferalz
What a beautiful spot.
After walking up the gorge from Gunns plains it was a little too close to our second car with it's stash of chocolate and cool drinks for us to stop long.
The car park has changed a little since they have logged opposite the trail start now but there is still plenty of room for several cars on the same side as the trail.
We will definitely return here in winter when the river is at full power.

Arrived at the parking coords to find a sign stating the track was closed for maintenance. The council workers at the top said go for it, so I did.
This track is different to the others I've walked on but I got to GZ fairly quickly considering the track runs sooo close to the edge. Don't think anyone would survive if they fell in.
TNL a ladybug (I think). Went onto to Not for Faint Hearted.
Thanks forthferalz

Found on way to check on track after flood. A nice cool area for a walk, away from the blazing sun. TFTC
This would have to be my favourite so far. Spectacular walk and spot for a cache. Took a geocoin (our first) but doesn't seem to have been logged at this spot so not sure what to do? Left a fish. Brilliant. Thanks very much.
Lovely walk to the cache, with purplish orchids lining the track the whole way and the river was really roaring. Got to the metal stairs and spent way too much time trying to find the cache, work out the cryptic hints in the description, remember the photo clue, match everything up, etc, when we should have just kept on walking a little bit. After finally ruling out where the cache was not, we did keep walking and came to the obvious 'cuppa' spot. Then it all fell into place. Retrieved the cache, signed the nice logbook and left a geocoin. (Apologies to the finders who came after me for the late log!!)
Admired the grand view of Devil's Elbow, then continued up the rather torturous bit to the lookout. I suspect most people only go to the bend and not all the way up. (You could probably call them the sensible ones!!) So this cache is placed in an appropriate spot. Thanks!

Down this way having a look at the river in flood. Very speccy. Surprised no one has found this for 2 years. contents safe and dry. TNLN thanks
Wow, what a trail. Geoskid and myself with a few other Hash House Harriers walked the trail for a day. Was a great trail. The photos and links to trail are here: http://dhhh.blogspot.com/2008/11/get-hoft.html

This is such a lovely spot to sit and have a break. I just sat my GPS out in the open and it pointed straight at the cache, although I'd identified the rocks in the photo already so it made it easier. The river was high and I always forget how absolutely awesome the Leven Canyon is!

Found on way to 'not for faint hearted' on a sunny day.

A bit of Anzac Day fun, our first cache in months. Grabbed it on the way to MrTacks cache further on. Nice spot to stop and watch the fish jumping in the river below. Cache still in good condition!
Thanks F.F. Took TB, didn't swap anything.

Another cache that took us to a cool spot we wouldn't have found otherwise. That walk wasn't long, but some fairly serious up and down! Left Froggy TB. TFTC
Well so near yet so far. Didn't even pick this one up before I left Victoria! Took pics from same place and sat and daydreamed in beautiful sunshine. Didn't even think of a cache. O boy that ladder. Will have to come back.
10am. I don't decrypt hints until I'm in the field and cannot find a cache - and as I'm paperless I don't print out cache pages either. So this Schnauzer was ready to sink her teeth into Her Feralness when, in an area with terrible coverage and a cache description referring to a photo, I decrypted the hint to find references to a website I could go to for further hints and photos.
Luckily just about then the female slave found the cache (which was just where a cacher would put it so wasn't difficult at all) and saved someone from a rabies shot!
The views from here are marvelous, and we did stop here on the way back from not for faint hearted to have lunch. And this is where the female slave discovered she was playing host to quite a few ticks - it was hilarious watching her plucking them out of her skin for the next day!
Lest this log sound too negative, this is a stunning spot and a perfect place to take a break on the track. We'll upload more photos (a little bit of wizardry is required), but I'll include one now as a preview. Thanks forthferalz!

Due to the dismal weather (probably to be expected with the team's own raingod in the area!!) we aborted the planned attempt on Minnow Falls before starting it and came to the canyon instead! Nice walk in despite the rain. Took longer than we should have to locate the cache - photos are an excellent clue, but we seemed to have cache blindness! Eventually located it, T Tassie devil pin, L corroboree frog pin from Mt Kosciuszko National Park, waved to the devil and went on our way to greater heights. Thanks for the cache Forthferalz, great spot.
I'm an idiot!!! If only I'd prepared better I could have got this one on the way to "Not for faint hearted". Why did I not notice this listing??? (I'm currently hitting my head against a brick wall!)
great stuff whatever possessed you to put a cache out here[the devil himself].the gps was a bit of a handycap as it kept having a rest, managed to fly straight past and started on the stairway to heaven.
it always happens when on a time limit had to have little tacker back home by 12.30 to head home.
he was a bit worried he would fall thru the mesh on the bridge but dad reasured him it would be ok
great hide in a great location took ftf keyring and geocoin left butterfly and whistle
thanks heaps forthferalz
