Once again for reasons unknown the cache has gone MIA [xx(]

Managed to get a positive photo (or at least we thought we had) digital zoom in on Oxford. Tried a number of likely locations around the calculated coords without success. Now back in NZ so will send coords to owner to see if we did our maths right.

I was in Melbourne on business and decided to do a spot of geocaching in the morning before heading off to the airport. The miles to Oxford proved to be difficult (as with previous people), so I decided to jump the fence and quickly get this value. Calculating the final looked very promising, but unfortunately I just couldn't find it in between the bursts of muggles heading off to work. Running out of time (as I didn't want to miss my flight), I decided to give this a miss and will try this again, if I'm ever back this way again. Thanks anyway.

05-Feb-12
Hello there, I'm writing this note as this is one of my 'unfound' caches during my lightning fast 30 hour trip to Melbourne this weekend. I had researched caches directly along the routes of travel, and close to accommodation, and came armed with a list of possibilities for my first Victorian cache! Travelling with 2 geodaughters, 7 and 6 months, and with a hectic schedule of folks to visit I expected caching to be difficult, and hoped only for a single 'FIND' for the whole visit. One find would have been the ultimate smiley for this frustrated cacher. Alas it was not to be! Read on...

I had my hopes pinned on this cache. It seemed like fun. It was close. It seemed relatively simple! In the approaching twilight myself, geochildren and muggle friends visit the Tudor Village and the bright muggle friends figure out most of the answers faster than I can take notes. I then realise that without quiet peaceful time alone, there's no way I'm working out the new coords with the iphone anytime soon. So after what I thought was brilliant detecting in the almost-dark to figure out the miles to Oxford it was with some hope for tomorrow that we retired.

Returning the next day we recheck our Oxfordian distances, saw a poor bloke almost hit on the head by a falling Bunya Nut - did you even know they had Bunya Pine in Fitzroy gardens?? They weigh up to 5kgs and fall from great heights, so quite potentially deadly. Not to mention the gazillion falling branches that seemed to increase as the morning passed.

None of this made us particularly keen to walk under trees with our 6 children including my 6 month old baby in a carrier. After re-checking the cache size and groaning to myself that I ought to pay more attention to 'potential to find' on attempts I make when I don't have a lot of time, or many hours sleep under my belt, we all persisted in attempting to locat the little beauty, while side-stepping falling and fallen tree parts.

And we failed to come up with the goods. Let it be noted I'm not the tree person in the family. For reasonable sized containers, that would be Miss geoseven was with me, but for unreasonable tree hides it is always the Mr of the Suncoast_Smiths who makes the find. I felt like a poor host to the sport of geocaching, but I'm not sure that the enthusiasm of the children was dampened. Or perhaps they were just glad, as I was, to get out from under the trees in the dangerous conditions.

It was not to be today. I wish it had been.

Unable to decipher the "distance to Oxford" without the use of binoculars.
It looked like a "7", but substituting 7 into the revised co-ordinates resulted in a four digit decimal for the "south" co-ordinate. Similarly the "East" co-eds also resulted in a four digit decimal. Multiplying B by D then A+D and finally A+B.
If this all sounds like double dutch then I have definitely missed the point.

Love this park. On a lunch break Smile thanks

09-Jan-12
A nice morning run in the gardens. Found without too much trouble, although there were throngs of muggles at the cache site, walking through on their way to work. Logbook slightly damp after a lot of rain. Care needed to seal the cache again properly.

Wow! never knew such a village existed! Thx for bringing me here! Needed to use my binoculus to see the distance!

Found the cache on the first grab! TFTC!!

Had a look at a few trees before finding the right one. TFTC!

Found with GeO_LIGHTLY while waiting for an 11.30am appointment in the area. This place brought back lots of memories from when my eldest 2 were born at what was the Mercy Maternity across the road. I was surprised that my youngest hadn't visited this location. We enjoyed collecting the clues, but surely no one could accurately read the mileage to Oxford without jumping a fence could they? Against my better judgement I agreed to the breach of protocol and couldn't believe how quickly and stealthily the deed occurred amongst so many muggles. Thanks for a reason to revisit such a special place with my youngest son. Dropped off a travel bug.

19-Dec-11
Found withDe Ja Vu. We gathered all the clues easily except for the miles to Oxford. We were tempted to ask someone "Do UNO how many how many miles to Oxford" but I decided to just quickly jump over. After getting to GZ a ten minute search turned up the cache.
Thanks for the cache Biggles.

01-Dec-11
I stopped in here this morning to grab a couple of frogs in the park (http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Leapfrog) and wandered over to do this multi while I was here. I didn't have binoculars and I don't have particularly good eyes so I had to guess the distance to Oxford but not too many numbers make sense. Over to gz where I grabbed, signed and then replaced in between passing muggles. Thanks Biggles Bear. I love this little village.

21-Nov-11
Take your binoculars or someone with very good eyes to read how far Oxford is.
But there are not too many numbers that make sense, so I plugged them in and made the find.
Nice hide.

We were over the road at the medical centre and decided a walk in the park would be good. Beautiful day and everything looked lovely. Mrs Thetaz used to come here as a child and has great memories. TFTC

I loved this Tudor Village when I was a kid. Great to be back, it's holding up well.

29-Oct-11
Did this with the other cache nearby. There was a function on at the cafe but none of the guests took any notice of us, not even when josiey hopped the fence after we admitted ocular defeat. After her brief and non-malicious trespass we soon calculated the co-ordinates and thence found the cache. I took the geocoin.

Found 20 Oct 2011 @ 2:30pm

Find #241

Too nice a day to be sitting in the office for lunch today, so a long walk was in order.

Once I had the coordinates it ended up being a fairly simple find. Not many places to hide at ground zero!

Dropped in geocoin to continue on its journey.

23:20. We (Trailrunning, jsmyong and I) swore this would be our last look. I started by doing what I should have done in the first place - read the previous logs. This cache looks as though it's moved around because it was not where others have found it in the past. It's a very neat flat fit into its little spot and I'm trying to remember if I could have felt it during previous looks because it was only as my fingers moved over the edges that I realised what it was. Maybe when it's older and more weathered it'll be easier to feel but now it's very pristine. I got to use my new stamp in a brand new logbook. Thanks for the cache BB and the hints along the way.

Found together with Physics Teacher and Trailrunning. After my party, I had met up with them to get a cache that has been long on your radar since. Physics and Trailrunning equally have been here a number of times to get this cache but many times came back empty handed. Well, not for us today. It was straight spot on where it was supposed to be. Not sure how we missed it the last time. Finally, we can now get this one crossed off the list. TFTC Biggles Bear Smile

21-Sep-11
After many attempts at this one over the months, mainly at night, but sometimes during the day, I agreed to meet up with the caching buddies outside of normal muggle hours and use the power of three to find it. I had previously read logs and searched high and low, and I believe now the cache must have been missing on those previous attempts. With the recent log from the CO we knew this time the cache was in place. It's good to have this one off the list finally. Thanks Biggles Bear for the challenge.

21-Sep-11
Made the attempt, but couldn't make out the Oxford miles. Don't know if it was the timing of the sun or that I need glasses. Very hard to make out. Tried a few options based upon what I could make out and after 45 minutes decided to call this one. Bummer - very nice area.

17-Sep-11
Dropped past today to check on the cache. Yep it's still there and quiet easily accessible.

15-Sep-11
Thanks BB for verifying my coords and for the hint. I went back again today for my third look and still came up empty handed. If it has not been muggled again it is beyond my reach.

10-Sep-11
Seems the cache must have been discovered by council workers doing works at GZ. New cache installed.

08-Sep-11
We need to check on this one.

07-Sep-11
I have been to this park twice now and both times I have done the calculation to get me to GZ. The second time the geo-son was with me. I have read the logs, looked at the photo's and the hint, and I have not yet found. I will certainly watch this one, and if someone finds it I will be at GZ within the hour to search again. I am however of the opinion that it has been muggled again. I hope I am wrong.

05-Sep-11
think i got all the numbers right and i was at a good place to hide a tiny cache, but where ever I looked, could not find it.

04-Sep-11
Found the coords without too much trouble, but just couldnt find the cache anywhere!

22-Aug-11
The Oxford distance sign is unreadable but a little mathematical analysis yields only one option. Got to GZ and the options for hiding places seems limited. Found a place where I would have hidden it given the instruction no to stray too far from the path but no cache could be found. Will watch to see if it turns up.

14-Jul-11
So glad I worked out how to use way points, the sign to Oxford was hard to read but only one answer really worked for me Smile. SL & dropped off globe magnet

a sunny satur-winter-day.

Great multi. Oxford sign unreadable so took a calculated guess and that cache was quickly in hand. t4tc

26-Jun-11
Found 11.30am
He had tried for this one over a year ago but found the GZ was way too busy to have a good search so back again today we re-did the numbers and calculated a GZ. After a quick take away coffee we walked over to where the cache should be and started our search. Our GPSr seemed to have a mind of it's own pointing in so many different directions, eventually we can across the cache some way off where we had started looking.

TNLNSL
Thanks Biggles Bear for the cache.

10-Jun-11
Did the clues alright but couldn't find the cache.

05-Jun-11
Lovely walking through the park in the autumn leaves with all their colour. An interesting little village and we soon had the answers so off to the final GZ. A surprisingly easy find for us although coming from NZ we were a bit worried about spiders and other things which might be lurking nearby.... all good though. TFTC

13-May-11
Almost gave up and was going to email to make sure we had solved it correctly, but we found it, after going past it numerous times!!! Found at 3:51pm
Great Hide. TFTC

New cache installed.

17-Apr-11
Suspect this one may have gone walkies, will check it out ASAP.

15-Apr-11
Pretty sure we solved all the questions (one could have been 3 options, but one option put the final outside the park and the other two spots we checked. Absolutely nothing found.. Pity as it was a really nice multi and our last cache in Melbourne on our visit there..

This cache was done in two parts. We started when we were in Melbourne last time but being in a hurry we were unable to finish it. Today we made our way to the GZ to finish and resorted to having a seat to read the logs. Once we were a little more familiar with the hide we found it no probs. The cache may need to be looked at as it was very damp. We made our mark and replaced the hide as we found it. Sorry we were unable to replace the book but we didn't have our caching gear with us. 20-Jan-11
Found on a beautiful morning for a walk In the gardens. This was another 12month project as I had tried while down at the tennis last year but thought I had made a mistake in the calculations. This time I extended my search and came up with the find. Thanks for the cache.

Found together with nadya.

14-Jan-11
Found this after 20 min of searching. The coords point to the wrong tree Wink Anyway, TFTC!

05-Jan-11
Met Xambo4U after work. She had already attempted this cache but had been unsuccessful. When to the small village verified the answers. Nice Village. Off we went. Spent more time than we expected searching for this one.
Our calculated GZ took us to a light pole or a nearby tree. Didn't find the cache so we had to expand our search area. Finally found the cache on the other side of the foot path and about 3 trees away.

Our first day in Melbourne and our first cache .After visiting Cooks Cottage we were over to the Tudor village sorted the answers and the maths TFTC.

Out and about with Toycar tonight. I have had a couple of goes at this but with no luck so I came with assistance tonight. Thought it was an excellent time to have another go at this one as there is not a many people about this time of the year. Found it difficult to see one of the clues but there really wasn't that many options. Having affirmed my previous final GZ points we set of to hug some trees. We agree with previous logs in that it is the wrong tree. After a very long extended search Toycar came up with the goods. Good hide but co -ords could be better in such a public popular place. Due to high muggle area I think the difficulty should be lifted.
Visiting this local icon bought back memories of childhood visits
Thanks for the cache TNLN

04-Jan-11
Did the math and found the place, but a romancing muggle couple made me go get a couple of other caches first before returning to log Wink

03-Jan-11
#171 - I love that Tudor village, so I was really happy to visit it again Smile. We found the answers fairly quickly and headed to GZ. Just like some of the previous loggers said, the coords take you to a bit wrong spot. Just widen your search... Smile. Nice and quiet at the park today.

3/12/2010 12:57 Found: #126 This one has been bugging me since September. It is close to work so was one of the first I attempted. Only after recently talking to previous finders did I get the hint I needed. Like others I found the co-ords to be slightly generous. TFTC TNLN SL

Well I add my name to the list of those who did not find this one.
While the better half of Team Ladava was in theatre at the nearby hospital I felt I had time for just one multi and this was the obvious choice but no luck. Perhaps my mind wasn’t really on caching but it is a glorious park. I guess I finally got some value for the $70.00 much resented annual ‘Melbourne Parks and Gardens’ tax they impose on us even though we live in Sunbury
I will email the owner to confirm I had done the calculations correctly.
Cheers

That's really a beautiful garden and a very nice village. Today many wedding couples were in the garden for photo shootings.
The final coordinates pointed to the wrong "one", but after checking some of the "others" I found the cache.
Thanks for guiding me here.

I've done the other cache in this park earlier in the year, but avoided this one going by a string of DNF, turns out that was the fault of the cachers rather than a missing cache. So I returned, I was a bit dumbstruck to see Anne Hathaway's cottage here - what does she have to do with tiny cottages? - turns out I had my Anne's mixed up, and this one was married to Shakespeare. Like many others, I had trouble figuring out the distance to Oxford, but the final word on the stone gives the answer away even if you can't see it - so no big deal. Had the place to myself on a rainy afternoon and found the familiar hide after reading other peoples suggestions to expand your search area once at GZ.

03-Oct-10
We LOVE this village - LOVE it and so relished the chance to visit it for some caching! We found all our little clues and had another good look at all the details in the display. Then off to GZ for us - took a bit of poking around but we got there in the end. Thanks for a really great cache.

19-Sep-10
Collection of the information was relatively straight forward. However, finding the ccahe was repeatedly thwarted by muggles - made three attempts over a 4 hour period with finally, success. TFTC

FINALLY!!!!! I first tried this last year and even redid all the clues. This was my 5th attempt at finding it at GZ. I must have touched it previously but just not realized it. What a relief!

What a lovely surprise this little village was. We were led to the wrong tree, but eventually tried the neighbouring one and BINGO! It was a beautiful day for these visitors to Melbourne and we had a nice lunch here too. TFTC

19-Jun-10
Couldn't find this one. Searched the area but lots of people around so we couldn't hunt as carefully as we would have liked. We'll go back and try again soon.

26-May-10
Couldn't find this one still! My GPSr was almost out of batteries and it got me to GZ but then dies. I had a look around in the obvious places but didn't have an opportunity to read the logs. I only had a short search before returning to charge it up!

15-Mar-10
Dropped past on our way home from curling, the cache is in the same place it was when we put it there, and in good condition.

14-Mar-10
I also have tried this one a few times and I couldn't find it in any of the likely places at GZ.

10-Mar-10
Very hard to read the Orford distance so were not able to figure out the final location.
Hello from Canada

07-Mar-10
Nope its still there! But it did take some finding and expansion. It is where you think it is you just have to lay hand on it Smile (Which is easier said then done). Loved the little town but it took 3 laps to get all the clues hahaha. After completing an interstate cache from BBear today it was nice to follow up with this one.

25-Feb-10
Just thought I would add that I have had a couple a goes at this and agree that trying to read the Oxford milage is difficult. Using a couple of number options I checked out the usual places that this area offers and had no luck.
Its good to hear that other people have had trouble, maybe we should be all logging our no finds more often to let others now.
Just love this park, we are so lucky to have them so close to the city.
thanks BB

My hubbie and I spent one hour looking for our first solo cache (without Team Ladava) and we couldn't find it!! We checked our answers twice, extended our search and still did not locate it!! Disappointing for first solo attempt.

07-Feb-10
We came to this park to complete another long distance cache.
Thought we would take the time to stop by and find this cache.
Followed the arrow and watch the numbers count down on my gpsr.
It was in the last place I looked just before I was about to give up.
We had to extend our search out about 10m.
Thanks Biggles Bear for this cache.

25-Jan-10
Well this one I thought was going to be hard as I struggled to read some of the signs and then arriving at gz I thought I'd miscalculated. After widening my search a few metres the cache was in hand. Smile

07-Dec-09
I think I got the GZ right. I tried a few times but with no joy. Gave up in the end as even on a rainy day people kept on coming by.

#1518... Was a quick find once I got my GPS tunned in that I was not in Canada any more... we started this last week, but when I punched in the new waypoint I think I was in Never never land.. but I got that sorted out a few days later and decided we should give it another go after the ZOO!!! TFTC

29-Nov-09
We decided to take Mrs WD's mother (who is over from the UK for a couple of weeks) out for a wander around these gardens today even though there was the threat of rain. The Melbourne weather didn't fail to disappoint and at times we were getting rather wet. Clues were easy enough to solve in one of the few rain breaks and Mrs WD and I nipped across to GZ. After checking all the likely areas we hadn't found anything and Mrs WD was ready to head back to the cafe. I extended the search area slightly on my return and soon enough the cache was found. I was working on this cache at the same time as the other cache in the park. This one turned out to be much more enjoyable. Loved the little town and the scenery. I must try and find a hiding hole like this one at home!!

05-Oct-09
Well this one was tricky. I attempted it with a friend and was pretty sure that the second waypoint was spot on but no cache to be found. Hope to get back sometime soon and sort this one out.

29-Sep-09
This cache was a heap of fun. Got a little tricky when nearing GZ because of the trees in the park messing with my iPhone GPS. Managed to retrieve & replace at dusk before the possums came out.

15-Sep-09
Well this did pose some problems. I first started working on this a number of weeks ago. Hampered by my inexperience, poor eyesight in regards to mile posts, and a (possibly?) muggled cache when I first started searching - it proved to be a long few weeks.
Once I saw the cache was up and running again I made my plans....I was sure I had the exact correct point. Well, my searching was intially disappointing, until I cast my net wider...and voila!!!
A lovely Spring Day in the Park - what better environment for a challenge? TFTC. SL.

Certainly my favourite Park in the Melbourne CBD (just look at those Elm trees!!). However, failed to find this one - even after also trying the coordinate calculations provided by Tealby and also by Partic (in the logs), and checking a variety of possible locations.

Could the cache have been muggled?

27-Aug-09
Tried again with another Geocacher and even doing this twice we still couldn't find this cache, I do hope that it hasn't been muggled.

25-Aug-09
Searched and searched but couldn't find the cache, I'm new to geo-caching and put the lack of success to this, I hope it hasn't been removed.
