Coming up for lunch at Ivy Cottage (which is only open Fri, Sat and Sun) we decided to find a few caches. With full reception at Ivy Cottage We decided download caches onto an offline site as we knew there would be no reception further down the road. Then putting phones in airplane mode from Paluma. We found our way closest to cache. Took Old Man Hands and Little Miss Hands a little while to find but they did. Logs are wet but still managed to sign it.
I drove to here and that was tricky enough. bunadoorian and I both had very little to no reception. but we headed in the correct direction and bunadoorian found it first. Thank you so much for placing this lovely sized cache for us all to find for so long - mac100!!!
It was a bit of an effort just driving into the area, but from there it was a fairly easy walk into the cache especially seeing as the undergrowth had been cleared. A reasonably easy find even with almost no signal. TFTC.
A pretty remote and somewhat random location for placing a cache, but at least this guarantees the long lifetime of this by now 16 year old cache. As mentioned by others, surprisingly a random biker must have found this cache as well a while ago, since he wrote a nice story in the log and mentioned that he stumbled over this cache. Wow, really what a coincidence out here in these woods.
Thanks a lot for the old cache, the first logbook is pretty wet, but the replacement one in a second back is doing very well. Thanks

First free weekend during my field trip to Australia, so we enjoyed marvelous weekend in Paluma. Thanks for my first Aussie cache!
Day six and Friday of the big Townsville trip for Fangsoki, Crew 153, 1MinnieMoo, Pprime and myself. Today will involve a lot of driving for the 'North Loop' up to Ingham, Wallaman and Paluma. But, plenty of old geocaches and some hikes so it's a good day if tiring!
Having just climbed Mount Fox, we were now on a mission to head east. This turned out to be more of a mission than expected. These less-travelled rural roads don't always match the map, but we eventually got on the right track. And it was a long, windy, sometimes bumpy road through some pretty isolated feeling country.
We passed Hidden Valley, commenting how far off the beaten track that place is. Then headed into the forests proper. Ahead lay an old geocache. Honestly, after 90 minutes in the back seat a break and leg stretch was welcome.
The car was parked on the roadside. I got out and looked about. There seemed to be no distinguishing feature here, just an arbitrary roadside location. But, as the name suggests, the timber is tall and the forest serene. Onwards to the geocache.
Finding it was not hard after the short walk. And nice that it's been replaced lately. But there was dramas opening it. I sat on a log to enjoy the nature while others walked back and dealt with it. The presence of a muggle visit, apparently a chance find on a cycling tour had us collectively wondering how that happened here of all places.
But the geocache was replaced as found at 12:45, and back to the car to cover more kilometres and discover more geocaches. Thank you for this smiley, mac100

The Trudge2TVL mob (Fangsoki, 1MinnieMoo, Captain Terror, Crew 153 and myself) go north! THis was on the road as we drove past - but it has been here an awful long time which put it on our list regardless. Such a random place to stop, but a great container.
Thanks mac100 for entertaining me at this location.

A 9 day roadtrip to Townsville and back to Brisbane in the Fangsoki Pajero with the usual cast of cachers.
Such a random stop to search for a cache but it was an easy walk and an easy find.
We were surprised to read that the previous find was by a muggle. How was it found randomly out here?

1MinnieMoo and I made our way down the other side of Paluma to this one next.
We parked up and made our way into the bush to find the replacement container kindly left by grannysmith1947. However, like Doris62, we could not get into it - tried as we might. We decided it to take it to the Canyonero for some love.
We are unsure which method was successful most "WD40 down the thread of the lid" or "Screwdriver and hammer" - but we got the beast open without damaging it. We signed the log and dried out everything - as it was wet. I sprayed more WD40 on the thread - in the vain hope it might help the next cacher. A great little place for a stop. Incidentally, this cache is currently the 341st oldest active cache in Queensland. TFTC mac100

Day 14 of our trip, and Fangsoki and I left the beauty and humidity of Mission Beach to make our way to Townsville, the long way of course!
Well when it comes to the cache, we walked straight to GZ and instantly found it. Accessing its contents, however, was a different matter. Fangsoki and I tried everything - team effort brute force and all. But it wasn’t going to budge! Then I charged back and grabbed the WD40 from car. Then we tried some more. Still no movement, so we went back to car with cache and Fangsoki tried some handiwork with some tools. Nope. Then after letting it sit upside down for a moment or two more to allow the WD40 to work in, I finally I managed to get lid off using my bare hands and brute strength once more. The contents were rather wet, thankfully the new logbook had survived the water, and we signed our names on. Fangsoki then dried it out and cleaned it up, applying a little more WD40, so hopefully it behaves again now.
Interestingly the last signature was from a muggle - see attached pic!
Thanks for the cache mac100.

On the way to Hidden Valley with my bro to volunteer as course marshals for the Paluma Push. Thought I’d nab a cache on the way. This was a quick find but something wrong with the cache. Two of us couldn’t open it. Think the lid seal may have slipped. But I found a spot on the outside to sign and date so hope that is ok! TFTC
Replaced container with PVC pipe painted black old cache is still there to look at happy caching

Certainly different country out here. It was sad to see what fire had done to the area. Having an issue locating this until we widened out search. It was disappointing to see the condition of the remains of the cache but a little joy when it was recognised as the cache.

OMG those huge trees! Were driving out of the forest at night and deeply impressed by all the giants here. Today coming back in daylight, we had to stop, not only to find the cache but also to take many photos. Love those tall trees.

Out today on a caching and exploring trip from my house sit in Townsville. I decided to do the loop out via Hervey Range Rd and back to TSV via Paluma, grabbing a few caches on the way.
Pulled up a little up the road and made the short walk back and a quick find. Certainly different around here to the much drier country back towards the Hervey Range rd.
Left a plastic surfer
I have the feeling I signed all the logs with the 5th of Nov...

Found at 13:52 today after going after a daily. Enjoyed the drive out here. iPhone indicated 8m from the GZ no doubt due to the dense tree coverage. Great wooded spot in the middle of nowhere. Tall trees in abundance. TFTC. 320 day streak continues on
Quick find after staying at Hidden Valley. Nice to see old caches still surviving.
On a Paluma outing day trek we decided to do a cache. Wearing our best hiking shoes (Pluggers). We headed into the scrub hoping for the best in the clothing we were wearing and being vigilant of the wildlife that could be in the surrounds. After a short walk we found our destination. TFTC.
After having found 2 awesome caches today already it was onwards towards another isolated location, followed the road and parked the car, a short stroll had me at Gz and used the hint for a speedy find, happy to report all in good condition here.

On our way from Townsville to Cairns (don't have to be there for a few weeks) caching as we go. Got to keep up the geostreak! Last one for today, found @4.09 as the fog crept in. Thans mac100
Visiting relatives at Paluma and talked them into taking me to search for tall timber. I must say this was a spectacular journey with plenty of scenic views and old history to be discovered. Found the cache before the heavy fog set in back up at home and this is definitely a favorite point from me for many reasons. Thanks mac100 and TFTC
Quick find with BlackPearl26 despite wondering if we were in the right place as it seemed very random. Tftc.
We tracked backwards and forwards for a few steps while the GPS tried to make up it's mind but eventually it settled and led us straight to the hide.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hi there mac100. We found your cache "Tall Timber" at 3:15:00 PM today.
This was our 5th cache find in a caching run of 5 Finds & 0 DNFs today. (So this now makes our find count 9797.)
[Blue]
We are trying to log at least one cache every day, so we can add to our streak of "Most Consecutive Days Cached", which we started on New Years Day 2014. Our route today took us to some really wonderful & scenic locations.
Thanks for not placing an eclipse tin or a 200ml Sistema here. For over ten years we have watched the quality of caches get steadily worse and worse. Once upon a time caches seemed to be "regular" sized, and well stocked with goodies for kids to swap. Nowadays it seems like every other cache is small and devoid anything to induce children to enjoy the hunt. It made us feel really good to find this cache in a "special" place.
[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Party Popper.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards

Decided a late lunch at Paluma was on the cards and this provided an opportunity to grab a cache out of town. The hardest part was deciding which one to do as we are attempting to complete 365 days straight and are running out of caches in Townsville.
We followed the red arrow off the road and in to the bush and ended up slightly off track and had to change tack to get to GZ. geoD must have almost stood right on top of a snake without even noticing it. GeoP, on the ohter hand, most certainly noticed it and the resultant scream must surely have been heard back in Paluma.
In the end we resorted tot he hint and quickly found the cache before beating a hasty retreat back to the geoMobile.

Putting a TB in cache - couldn't figure out how to do this without logging another find...sorry!
Found the path to GZ easy then a quick look around came up with the goods! TFTC
Took a while to get ourselves on the right path after finding a suitable location to park the geomobile. Geoteen soon had it in hand once we had reached GZ. Awesome hide.
Fairly sure it was a shortage of skill and poor navigation that prevented this find. Will be back with better equipment soon. Did see a lot of nice countryside though.
Awesome trees and a nice easy find. Cache is still in good nick. That rounds out the Paluma and Crystal Creek collections. TFTC. TNLN
Fount it!
There some really nice trees along the way to the cache. Did any one see that tree that you can stand inside, if you look up its hollow the whole way to the top.

The march flies were harrassing us today!! GPS was on a bit of a rollercoaster ride today but after a bit of a hunt here and a bit of a hunt there, we eventually found the cache. The lid is a bit warped so I wasn't able to thread it on properly despite trying for 5 minutes or so sorry. Thanks mac100
Found by Danielc of Danielc Group. An easy find once I found somewhere to park. Must admit I was expecting a walking track or some such. Still, it was found easily once I followed the GPS arrow into the bush. Tnln. Tftc.

After doing several rainforrest caches in the area it was quite a surprise to come over the range and find a totally different type of forrest more like the southwest of WA.
A short hunt at GZ and the cache was in hand so glad it was an easy find as the march flies where thick! Even with Bushman spray they were tackling us.

Really glad we drove on through Paluma to find this cache.....the beautiful 'tall timber' forest was so different to the rainforest of only a few kilometers away. Great cache to introduce friends to geocaching (SmithsChips). We stayed the night at Hidden Valley cabins and stopped in a Lake Paluma for picnic lunch. The bushfire mentioned in the logs has kept the undergrowth down so it was easy to follow the gps which was spot on. still good idea to be wary about snakes though. Luckily we parked where there was a cleared track which we followed and took us close to the cache. Cache was in very good condition & dry. TN: Left packet of colouring pencils. TFTC
Today we toured the Wet Tropics, after a lot of rain we like to go through the rainforests and the waterfalls.
We stopped in here on our way up to Mt Fox.
Pink pointed out to me I was standing next to it when I was waiting for GPS to update
The container was some fire damage but is still OK.

Quick find while I was up at Paluma visiting. The cache lid was hard to remove due to the recent fire melting it slightly, but still removable. TNLN.
The recent fire made this one an easy find. It must have been hot! the container is slightly melted but should still be watertight, however the cliplock bag is a bit melted, perhaps a future finder could bring a replacement. No swaps today. Thanks mac100 for another great cache.

4th Cache for the day. Cat and Bear headed towards the GZ and noticed that there was been a very recent bush fire go throught the area. The GPS was very jumpy and we searched the area high and low but couldn't find the cache. We thought that the possibility of finding the cache in one piece was rare. We were about to give up with Bear found the cache that was right in front of him. The cache lid did get burned and is a little warped and the plastic inside the cache melted a little from the heat but the cache is all well and good. Who knew how durable the PVC pipes are. This was our third cache today and was a totally different scene to the others and never thought there would be such tall trees in this area. Kept a very sharp eye out for any "joe blakes" that may have been in the thick under growth. It was an easy cache to locate as the co-ords were spot on and the container was in full sight but then who would be way out in this thick bush! Thanks mac100 for placing the cache.

Mac100 we really hope that your medical problems are fixed. This is another really beaut hide. The gums are the tallest that we can recall ever seeing. Thanks for bringing us to this spot. Left red car. Took travel bug and 1Dime coin.
After travelling the long western route from Townsville to Paluma and environs we via Ewan, we found this little beauty nice and snug. The car is a little dusty from the dirt roads though.
Interesting spot on our way to Hidden Valley cabins. Loved the vegetation changes in this area. Moved Camo Chameleon TB on again. Thanks

We didn't initially intend to come up this far, but when we saw that it hadn't had a visit in 8 months we decided to check it out. A bit of bush bashing was involved to get to this cache, situated 50 mts in from the road. A lot of scrub and grass to negotiate but found without a problem and GZ was within 4 mts of GPS reading. Cache is in excellent condition. Found at 1245.
Unfortunately I`ve suffered serious medical problems and will no longer be able to viset this cache. If anyone wishes to take it over please feel free to do so. MAC100.
Our third find for the day. Wow!! We searched for a while for this one - the Reluctant Companion was a great help but the GPS was not. We enjoyed it immensely. What a magnificent tree nearby!! There are many great rose gums up here. Took Liz & Pete's Coin and left a US 1 dime! TFTC.
Wow what a day of caching this was our third and last for the day. By now it is raining quiet heavy but we were so close seemed a shame to go home with out it. GPS dressed in a plastic bag, off we went didn't matter that we were getting wet. Straight in and a quick check around and sure enough there it was and best of all Chrissy found it which made her very first caching experience a great one. ( And no Bubbles I'm not competitive, just do it for the fun )

To me an intriguing choice of location, just what did make one stop their car half on & half off the road in the middle of nowhere with no stand out features in amongst these spectacular towering trees, could it be someone had to make an unplanned rest stop & in the process while contemplating as one does, thought why not plant a cache here as well. Thank you for this cache & no I did not take time out here to do some contemplating of my own but watch your step just in case.
Second for the day. Easy find. The GPS points were spot on. Had a tangle with a black snake for our first cache, so we were a little wary. What a wonderful area, such beautiful trees. We were in awe. Took Ladybird paperclip and left Goofy superhero.

Found the cache at 2.40pm. Please see Trishtrish35's comment. Thank you for organise the cache and hunt.
We found this one quick and easy in a very nice surrounding.
Thanks for the cache.

PS.: Sorry for our delay in logging, but we just arrived in Germany. It's always a bit problematic to find an internet access when we are on holidays in Australia.
PPS.: Sorry about our English.

...was going to camp at Paluma but couldn't get a permit (late afternoon) so decided to head out to Hidden Valley, with this cache on the way out, had to give it a go. Found with no real difficulty. The eucalypts are indeed impressive. TFTC Mac100
An easy find despite the aggressive plant life around these parts, nice place to take a break.
