Unfortunately the area has been logged and the cache is missing. Time to retire this one.
We finally made it to gz all excited with daughter, just to find that the cache is very likely gone. The whole area is cordoned off (not necessarily stopping cachers off course) but the trees have been chopped down very recently!! CO sent photos of the carnage. Not sure if this one can be resurrected
Managed to solve this - more good luck than good management perhaps. Then decided we should grab it while in the area today... but didn't have a large enough vessel. Some small improvisation and all was good to sign the log. TFTC
Solved this one quite a few years ago but never made it to GZ before moving south.
Heading home (driving for a change) after 10 days in Taranaki and Christchurch, so this was on my hit list.
Parked up at GZ, grabbed the water I'd had in the car for a similar one in Southland and made my way to GZ.
Lost the first few 100ml (duh!) but managed to get the container in hand - phew!
All good with cache - no sign of water, though log book is a little damp. Inner bag could do with replacing, but didn't have a sandwich sized on with me.
Thanks for the smilie Conton, Moneydork and whoever might be keeping an eye on it since Moneydork jumped that ditch.

Found with Goldielover. A magic day and merry Christmas to all. Had to call in some help to solve this one. Loved your cache had great fun with it. Lucky the supply was quite close.

Got the mathematical wizardry done by muggle friend ex Maths teacher at Ellesmere College. She was spot on. Knew what I was looking for as have done a few like this. A fun cache. Thank you!
finally worked out the coordinates so now I am claiming the smiley. I enjoyed solving this one as i am not very interested in mystery caches but this one will give me some self confidence to go ahead and try some more TFTC
Found with team_macdonald not claiming a smiley until I solve the puzzle have signed log
Awesome puzzle. I have a big book of puzzles that has a few of these in it so I knew exactly what I was doing. A great puzzle and a great cache. Tftc a favourite for the puzzle and the container
After dinner we ve looked over the map for some Caches and found this one. We instantly started to solve it and after 15 min of thinking we ve got a solution. Just a short Walk and thank weve got it. Thanks and Best greets from Germany from da M&M Studios
I managed to get on a work trip to Christchurch for two weeks but was faced with a dilemma. Do I go for quantity or quality? I didn't have a vehicle to use all to myself so was somewhat limited to what I could get. In the end I just found what I could when I could but the webcam and the virtual were top of my list.
Went for a drive after finishing up for the day with a couple of muggle friends. This was one of my "must find" caches because of the D/T rating and because of its age. The puzzle wasn't too hard to solve once I had worked out what information was required and what was not. Don't even get me started on the check sum either. By the time we got out to this cache the sun was setting. We resorted to using our cell phones as a light source but still struggled a bit to locate the cache. I even had an idea on what I was looking for. Eventually we found it and got the cache out as advertised. Even managed to find a pathtag!! Definitely worthy of an FP
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

Found by mrs aamofidotr dad who only comes with us to do geocaching his frist find so happy poor mr aamofidotr is sad beatin by fatherinlaw well don't dad
We had solved the puzzle over three years ago, and today finally got around to visiting the area. Headed in towards GZ carrying the necessary equipment. Our GPS was not liking the tree cover and it took us a while before we reached the cache site. Inspected the apparatus, saw what was required, and were soon signing the log. Thanks.
My Brother in law Sevren Solve and found this cache before. we came back to find for me and my sister Chelzea
Sevren already solve and found this cache before and been here to find it for me but no luck. We came back again and finally we found the cache.tftc
Mr Sharpe saw this and decided to give it a go and surprised himself by solving it quite quickly!!! Right, off we went for a Sunday drive, water in the boot, and off to grab this cache (and some more) Cache quickly found, and retrieved. Thanks so much, such a great spot. However the mossies, here are huge!!!
Yah. Worked out puzzle found cache. Amazing. Great place to visit on a sunny day. Unfortunately that was not today. Fab hide. TFTC
It's a stunning sunny winters day and my 29th birthday so I figured we had to get out and about and do something with it! My husband, a rather intelligent fellow, had solved this puzzle a while back. One of our own caches had a few dnf's for what should be a simple find, so we decided to go and check on all 3 and knock this one off whilst we were at it, as it was in the same areaish. Kids were in gummies, and we decided to give the family parrot a chance to get out in his new harness. Might have to get him a logmydog tag! I digress...so we got to the site of the cache and after some tree hopping found the cache. Poor hubby had a hang of a time unscrewing it but he got it off eventually. Forgot the pen though! I took the kids to watch the yachts while he sorted the log, and left a pencil for the next person. A great morning out all and all, tftc
DNF. It was getting a bit too dark to have a good look. Confident we were in the correct location as friends have found it before, but no luck this time.
A fantastic cache.
Yorkshire P, RogoBaby and I were on our way to Leeston to pick up some of their famous bacon and this seemed like a great opportunity to solve an enigma. Didn't take long to solve the puzzle and get the coords. Looked like an easy spot to find. Threw a bucket in the back of the car as instructed. Found GZ easily enough but getting to the cache was made difficult by the number of downed trees. For a moment I feared the cache was underneath one. Luckily the cache had avoided being crushed. Off to the lake for the water. Oh my. We hadn't realised how poor the water quality was. Don't open your mouth if you're water skiing was YP's comment. RogoBaby put the water to use and quickly retrieved the cache. We signed it and replaced it as it was.
Thanks for the great cache.

This one had been on the radar for a while. Solved the puzzle pretty easy, drove out to GZ found the device and retrived the cache. The pen was stuffed so you my need to take your own next time. TFTC.
Solved the puzzle a long time back, but hadn't ever been close enough to the area to retrieve the cache. Happened to be visiting the big smoke for a few days this week and managed to fit in a wee bit of geocaching (as you do). Was able to follow the GPS right to the cache site - was a bit concerned on arrival that it may have been damaged in the recent big windstorm, as there is a fair bit of damage to the general area, but it was all good, and cache retrieved with no bother. Nice to see a well constructed hide. Good one, thanks.
Puzzle solved with the help of the boy (who is obviously a lot smarter than his mother who couldn't even work out how to start), so the two of us headed out together to find this one. We've never been out here before so it was quite exciting when we first saw the lake. Realised once we got the lid off the first container that he could just reach in and get it, but we had the water so poured it in. Great fun. TFTC
Gave up on the IQ test a number of times, but perservered and got it. Very good test and hide.
Holymu solved this one some time back. Then a family commitment required attendance in ChCh and the rest is history. A great puzzle with a grand finale. TFTC

This puzzled was solved some time back in anticipation of a trip down to this area. We went prepared with the required amount of water but in the end only needed some of it. An interesting puzzle to solve especially as they are definitely not my forté. TFTC.
Luckily Mrs. Jamien is clever and managed to solve this one, then we all enjoyed finding and retrieving the cache in the required manner. Nice location. Great fun for the whole family! Geocaching at it's best. TFTC.
Having solved the puzzle before we checked the location on Google Maps to confirm a likely spot. On pulling up we saw a pair of hares and got to within about 5m before they scampered for cover. Armed with our carriers we headed to GZ. With the task duly performed we grabbed the cache and signed the log before replacing. TFTC

FUN!!! Had this one solved awhile back and had an opportunity to do a solo dash on Fathers Day. But that didn't work out (we're glad about that now). Very enjoyable puzzle since this type of puzzle usually gets my head in a knot. Today we needed some fresh air and a change of scenery. There were four newly published caches between here and home so we made a day of it. Packed the bikes and a picnic and headed off. Grabbed 5 caches on the way and arrived at GZ. Both my wife and I haven't been to this part of the lake before and enjoyed the view of the port hills from this angle. As we were driving towards GZ it looked like we needed to do some exploring. I said to Mrs TheWanglers that I'll pop in and investigate. She replied "we'll come". Great, drove up and parked and thought we'd all go and scope out the cache before we humped the bucket of water in. GPS led us to a likely spot. I was looking up high and low and couldn't spot it, I didn't know what I was looking for. My eldest wasn't enjoying the wind talking in the trees and I knelt down to consol her and I spied the cache. Figured out what we needed to do and dashed back to the truck to grab the buckets. We all excitedly toddled back to the cache and posed for photos and started the task at hand. Doh, the girls giggled because the cache was weeing on Daddy. Mrs TheWanglers came to the rescue and cache was in hand. What a wonderful cache, good puzzle and lovely science lesson. An all round favourite from us.

I worked this out a while ago and have been looking forward to getting up here to find it. Even bought my water containers but a skinny arm worked instead.
Have had this one solved for some time and today managed to be in the area. Once there a quick find and signing. TFTC.

I started to solve this puzzle years ago but gave up after a few minutes each time. Every time I visited NZ I said I would do it but never got the problem solved. This year I must have had a good day as it took me no more than 10 minutes to get my head around the problem. Arrived at GZ to find the Enigma there. Great idea and works even without water. With this find I have ticked off another D/T combination. TNLN TFTC ds8300

Puzzle solved some time ago - and not nearly as hard as first appeared. Easy find on a beaut day. Such a quiet spot. Happy to finally have our 500th cache!
TFTC. So excited to have completed this cache. At GZ on a perfect day, with truely magnificant senery. Had to work to gain correct access. Thanks for amking this cache. A favourite vote from me.
Mrs Sobad had solved the puzzle in Nelson. She always liked logic puzzles and this was a good one - and she was almost certain she had the correct solution. Today was a day to visit friends and complete this cache. We were a few metres from GZ when something caught our eyes. 5 minutes later we were back in the car, very pleased the solution had been correct. Thanks.
Found by the guy with a GPS with a black strap who drunk less Cokes than the other time while using his 2nd pair of socks that are black. Or something. long way to come to waste drinking water, so I didn't. TFTC. Lake is looking angry at this end - the wind has it all whipped up!
GPS played up more than the puzzle. Glad I am ok with spread sheets rather than pencil and paper, it fell quite easily.
Nice logic puzzle and a fun hide. Was a really peaceful morning for the collection. Thanks SL TFTC
My main goal for the morning. This is the last cache I needed for "BGSc 301". Back to Nelson in a couple of weeks to finish the 'BGSc'. TFTC.
Neat puzzle. Mrs Team Gaters solved it in two jiffies. Quiet day at work lent itself to an early departure and a solo diversion! Haven't been to this side of the lake before. Quite lovely. Rather cold and miserable summers late afternoon so I had the whole district to myself. Made the repairs as suggested - will hold up for a good few years now!
Quick sign. - mini racecar +highlighter & pen.
NOTE - for prospective cashees in the next wee while; especially those with dogs or small children The pine plantations in the area (including cashe location) have had poison bait laid for rabbit control (easily identified; the areas are taped off & the bait is scattered green pellets).

Hmmm Stretch0 and I had just a bit of fun with this one - all of our own making I might add - hmmm as always assumption plays a part in most caching blunders - never mind after fruitless searching we had spent a lot of time we thought maybe we will do our other caches and come back - stubborness and a need to have this cache done (thanks Mr Belt) made us decide to sit down and redo our working outs - luckily my head stayed un whirlpool long enough for us to finally work it out PROPERLY lol then quickly found by Stretch0 - so pleased to be able to log this cache thnaks for a memorable cache
We made a special trip to CHCH to get this and a few other caches for a cache challange. Spent some time at home and worked it all out so it was going to be a quick trip in grab the cache and move on!!! WRONG !!! A simple mistake had us trying to negotiate Terrain 5 in the same area 1/2 way to our GZ we clicked , hold on is only T1.5. MMMMMM somethings wrong here. Went and had a look around then decided that we needed to return to basics and start again. New set of figures had us in the water mmm then realized the second mistake. a quick change then off we go and hey Presto theres the cache. Signed log and tried to do some running repairs but the tools for the job werent in the car, Dammit removed them for car cleaning. Improvised with what we had and managed to make some temporary repairs. If the next cacher could take 4x 20mm screws and a screwdriver all can be fixed
Solved the puzzle a couple of days ago and embarked on a long road trip down from Nelson with the specific objective of getting to this cache - believe it or not! It was about 10pm and dark by the time I got to the cache. Found by torchlight without too much trouble. Condition is as per previous loggers note. TFTC and the puzzling challenge, Biggles.
A good puzzle and liked the link with the final cache design too. A really nice area and my first time here. TFTC.
Note: The cache could do with a tighten. Everything is in working order but I suggest the next cacher take a couple of screws and a screw driver to save a long distance maintenance check.

Solved this a couple of weeks ago but had to come south unexpectedly sooner than planned and couldn't find where I'd filed that bit of paper so had to do it all again. TFTC #1581
Had my eureka moment, this was my first difficulty 5 rated cache. Container in good condition still well hidden etc. TFTC
Good cache had worked out the puzzle some time ago and today the task was to find it. A few campers near the lake today. TFTC
#962 (11/23 SW of Chch). Troodles solved the puzzle ages ago (last year?). As we were approaching GZ I was a bit dubious, but we were in the right place. Had a bucked with us, but choose not to use it. TFTC.
This is a bit overstated in the difficulty department, as 42 finders in 3 years would agree. But I'm happy to clock up a 5 star cache! Very nice concept.
Enjoyed the alternative view of the lake as well, had never seen it from this side.
Thanks for bringing me here.

First go at this was going to require a swim, so we had another crack at the puzzle, second times a charm.

Confidently solved the puzzle (good to know I've still got functioning grey matter) and headed off to find the cache. More haste and less speed was the order of the day as the listed co-ords were loaded into the GPS and surprise surprise we found ourselves looking for a cache that was 100m into the middle of the lake! Grrrrr. Resolved puzzle and entered the now correct co-ords into the GPS and found the hiding place with no difficulty. Glad to finally find out what the water was for-very clever indeed. Beautiful calm sunny day with magnificent views over the snow covered southern alps. Haven't been out here for years since we were young and fit and into windsurfing. There were no bugs today of the flying variety at least! TFTC Left Geocoin.
We realy enjoyed this cache! Thanks good we had a 10 liter bucket and gumboots to fill it! A beautiful peaceful day with great views. Thank you for bringing us here and give a new inspiration for a cache hiding. TFTC
I solved this one back home in Sweden, but forgot the solution at home so I had to do it again yesterday evening. Very good mystery and the twist at the end when you find the hiding place is really fun.
Thanks for a great cache and greetings from Sweden.
Took TB koala with me.

Woot woot WOOF! WOOF!…. Had a lot of fun solving this puzzle.
Almost decided to give up on the hunt before we began, when we saw a huge swarm of giant mozzies being stirred up by our caching chariot.
Don heavy clothing and a thick layer of insect repellent, before heading off to GZ. No dramas retrieving the cache container, as one member of the team has very slender limbs, although she didn’t want the aforementioned limbs exposed for too long.
Many thanks for the cache, most enjoyable.
IN: Kevin the Koala – somehow he managed to escape the chamber of secrets… and into an enigma! Hope he enjoys his stay.
Logging in YG4’s Southern Planisphere GC for the mileage.

Managed to solve this puzzle last week, but hadn't an opportunity to visit. Went today with a friend, found it quickly, and managed to retrieve the cache without needing the container. Thanks for the puzzle. Cheers Gav [2769]

Da Da Da Daaaaa!! Found it, second attempt, first attempt never to be spoken of again!! Took stickers marble and stamp, left wishing stone keyring and gelpen.
I was able to solve the puzzle recently, and came prepared with special equipments, but it turned out I didn't need most of it. I replaced the ziploc bag with a new one. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache!
Found on second attempt - thought we'd gone wrong the first time, but must have been within one metre of it!

I have often looked at this one, and wanted to check it out - it sounds cool. Today was our lucky day - solved the puzzle on Friday night and chugged out today. An innovative holder. Thanks for the fun and the neat cache. Coordinates fortunately spot on. TNLN.
After seeing the puzzle, the find was neat. What an idea. Enjoyed the retrieval of the container. T4TC.
My fist 5* cache! A boring day at work yesterday promted me to sit down and solve the puzzle. Having done that and ascertained that it did not lead me to the middle of the lake, I set off today with the kids in tow to find the cache. Eagle eyed son quickly located the cache, but then we had to appear casual, going for a walk with a bucket of water in our hands!! Eagle eyed son was in fact able to reach the cache but having brought the water, we did things correctly and were rewarded by finding the beautiful Remember 9/11 geocoin. TFTC.
A nice easy find on a very rainy night while out caching with rincewind3 , I Saved this cache for my 300th cache , I see you have put some work into making this cache,,Cheers and many thanks
Huzzar! Easier than expected once the puzzle was done. Even the puzzle wasn't too bad once I thought back to the logic exercises I did in my school days.
Thought people solving this deserve a reward, though, so left my new geocoin, Remember 9/11.

Today's mission was to get this cache completed as we had worked out the coordinates awhile ago.
Drove up and be attacked on all sides by swarms of mossies.
Did not want to get out of the car, but we had come so far.
Nothing for but to get out and go for it.
Surprise no bites, they must have all been males.
Had trouble getting lid off, finaly got husband out of car to try, he got it (I had been trying to twist it).
So with lid of and water at hand the log was retrieved and not long before it was signed.
Thanks for the cache and bringing us to this spot. The lake looks beautiful and the mountains were covered in snow. Will have to bring the boys back when they can walk around with out having to worry about breathing in insects.

Found it okay, but was a bit disappointed neither of us could get the lid off, even working together. So was unable to actually get to the cache proper. Had great fun with the puzzle though- thanks!
Yes it is obvious once you see it! Lots of flying bugs in attendance, a mission getting from the car to the site without breathing in the little monsters! Suspect its the new spring breeding... Nice area though. Nice and peaceful with views to the mountains. Thanks! - Geo badge and + rubber stamp
Neat! A well designed mystery. I was a bit surprised how obvious the container was - I was expecting to have to hunt a bit harder for it though. I had 2 or 3 containers in the back of the car for ages - and when I came to need them, they had all been tidied away, and I ended up having to use a plastic bag. It only just worked - just enough to get my fingers on it. TNLN, Thanks.
Loved this cache from the initial puzzle to the cache itself, very ingenious but once the initial puzzle was solved had no problems.

I worked out the puzzle several months before I adopted the cache from Conton. I managed the cache without the use of water - but being the cache owner I made sure that the next person will need to do it properly. TNLNSL - Great cache Conton.
My first difficulty 5 rated cache found though I have done harder ones. However, a very interesting combination of the puzzle and the cache itself.
Great little puzzle and requires a bit of thinking about. Got to GZ and after I quick look didn't see anything so really started to wonder if I had totally stuffed this up and put myself miles out in the middle of nowhere. But had another look and found it OK. Had the water ready and cache recovered no problem.
Something a bit different for sure and great fun.

Well, it's taken 580 cache finds, and now we can finally claim a difficulty 5 cache, not that there's all that many around in the south island. Work our way through the puzzle, and were having a bit of a struggle. Suddenly it dawned that we knew additional information that would assist in solving the puzzle. After that, the puzzle was sorted in 5 minutes. Everything seemed right, so at the next opportunity off we went to find the cache. We scouted out the area, and found the cache. B went off to fill the water container, which was a stuggle in the high tide. By the time he returned, J had used her go-go gadget arms to retrieve the cache. B had his fun anyway.

First find on a beautiful afternoon for geocaching. Easy find but didn't linger as there were swarms of midges around. Had to keep brushing them from our eyes, ears, mouth, etc. Must be the most unusal cache we have encountered so far.

500 finds!! Solved the puzzle weeks ago but held off coming out here so we could do this different cache for number 500!! For each 00 cache find we try to do an interesting cache. Good work on the puzzle and cache. Had a fairly good idea of why the gardening can was going to be required before setting off. There was a strong NW wind today so the trees where a little worrying. A systmatic search yeilded the cache location. + A train TB, - pink stone.
Clever idea for a cache, managed not to get stuck in the mud. Puzzle took a bit and Mrs Moose had to point out (to much laughter) that Whai-do was not pronounced why-doo. TNLN Thanks.
1180. Well that was great fun. After making our way into the area through muddy puddles that took up the whole road - we did start with a clean car - we arrived at the cache site. Well, yes we could see what we had to do and we had come suitably prepared! We once had a cache called "Lakeside" that was only about 50 metres across from this one so even the area was well known. That was an ingenious idea - well executed. Thanks for a well planned, carefully presented, original cache.

A puzzle like that was like a red rag to a bull - I went straight for it last night. Not too hard to solve from first principles using simple logic. So this morning, the 4 unfound caches out that way were still unfound, so off I went - suitably armed with 5 litres of water. Mind you, I could have filled them by holding them out the car window!! It was a day of water - water to the left, water to the right, water in the paddocks, water over the road in places, water falling (horizontally), water spattering my glasses, water dripping from my nose, and two canisters of even more water under my arm. A quick hunt in the scrub - and Eureka - GZ was located. So that's how its done, eh - I'd been wondering. Very clever. But I found the top lid very hard to get off - my hands were slippery with water. Future cachers should note that the top lid is a "pull-off" not a screwtop. What do I do now? - water of course. No problems, as I'm a hydraulic engineer by training. Somehow, the rain just added to this "watery" enigma - a very interesting and rewarding puzzle and cache, thanks Conton. I've managed (with great effort) to refrain from using lots of "watery" puns in my log - I'm sure others will manage to find some. No swaps, thanks for the FTF and cheers from Grandalf(552)

10.30am. That b..... Grandalf beat us yet again. Who would of thought anyone would be out caching in this sort of weather!!! Like the aforementioned geocacher I enjoyed solving the puzzle yesterday (not as hard as some of his!!!)and thought I would find a few new caches out this way today. My thoughts were about water a lot today as at times I was driving through very large puddles, even once spinning around in mud (I shouldn't of tried to circum-navigate this domain). The Enigma was well worth the trip out. Most enjoyable. I was fortunate to have bought a little more water than I should of needed. Grabbed a TB and a dinner invitation. Who else will be coming to dinner?
We took a bucket, plenty of water in the lake.Hoping to be first as we decided that no-one else would be out because of the rain.We were very wrong, there were geocachers all over the place. We did see vehicle tracks so we knew we were on the right track.Loved the cache.HelloMrs and I are sharing the invitation as we were together. HelloMrs was sensible as she had gumboots on.Had to have almost a complete change of clothes by the time I got home.
The boys got a march on us because being on holiday we slept in. Solved the puzzle over lunch and as noone had logged a find rang Lyttelton witch and we set off in the pouring rain. Our GPS had us all over the place, we ducked in and out trying to get a fix, finally put the GPS in the pocket and just stumbled on it. Felt a bit like Jack n Jill going to fetch a pail of water. The ground was so uneven nearly lost the lot several times. 8 litres proved to be just about right thank goodness as I didn't relish another trip to the lake. Very glad of my stripey gumboats today. We raided the jar so filled it with a fresh lot of swops. Thanks for a great cache, we will certainly remember this one.
