Sorry guys - school is starting to be more of a push so geocaching is being sidelined.

apologies to everyone.

So, lets get this one marked as offline so nobody goes looking for it, or, archive it.

When the cache is replaced, we'll know where to look! We enjoyed the walk along the beach and out to the point even though there was no cache to reward our efforts.

Oh damnit, not again!

it seems that the misfortune known as nature has once again
plumbed this cache from its spot.

i haven't been here to long reef for quite sometime, but
rest assured, the next time im nearby ill take a gander
and check (make that ascertain) to see whether this cache
has been, whence the name, taken by storm.

cheers

Two of us searched for a while but no luck! I think a king tide may have swept it away 'cos we were right on top of it. Very nice day for whale watching though Smile

no good today 3 of the 6 Bugs.
tried for a hour no luck

29-Jun-08
Search for 20 minutes but couldn't find it. Might be hidden really well? Beautiful area though.

08-Jun-08
tried this one twice in the last 2 days (both times at low tide).. no luck. Saw where the pelican sat - that is where we rested or bag. Read the log on how to extract the cache! Perhaps the king tides took it away [?] Sad.

Nice spot.
Had to wade through knee deep waters approx.350 m each way today but that made it actually more fun.
The cache box is fine only a lettle bit wet, but what would you expect at such spot.

Easy find. Really nice spot, took friend with me and let him look. I had an idea where it was and I was right. Cache slightly damp dried inside as best as we could, TN left Star Wars pin.

I've been planning to do this cache for a while and a family day on Collaroy beach gave me the opertunity. It was a good 2km walk from Collaroy but there was lots to see on the way including a large flock of Pelicans. Located the cache quite easily but couldn't remove it from it's hidding place. Managed to unscrew the lid, signed the log book and secured the lid nice and tight. TFTC.

Found it but unfortunately there was water inside due to lanyard interferrig with th O ring. Replaced notepad but probably needs a new plastic bag. Took Geocoin and left a few goodies. Great spot, certainley awkward with muggles about!

On a rainy Sunday, when the tide was low as well as the clouds, we drove to Longreef and walked out on to the reef.
The cache was located quite quickly, and after some hand-twisting we managed to get it free from its hiding place.
Took Super Cacher TB, left 2006 CITO Geocoin.

I really enjoyed this Cache. I had been planning it before its recent demise and glad to see it back in action. I really didn't have enough time to do this one today but it was low tide and what the heck. Not the sort of country that you can move quickly through but finding the Cache was easy. Getting him out took a little longer but if you follow the instructions you'll have not trouble. Everytime I see huge waves from now on I'll think how this guy is copnig. Thanks for taking me to a brilliant spot for a Cache.

Finally managed to get out here to replace this cache as it has been some time since it's last find.

Funnily enough, I arrived at Long Reef and out west I could see a pretty hectic storm brewing with the ocassional forks of lightning piercing the sky.
And sure enough, just as I was around 10 mins walk from the car, it started to rain - and quite heavily.
The cache container is a camouflaged PVC pipe-type container that needs to be screwed on correctly so it is watertight which is essential in these harsh conditions.
Upon retrieval, you will find the container will not come out of it's hidey hole. The trick is to move the container to the place in the horizontal rock where there is a hole big enough to put your hand in. The hole is located right next to the cache and in that hole you put yuor hand in from the top and undo the lid while it is still in the cavity.
Once the lid is removed, you can take out the container without the lid and put your signature in the logbook.
Once caching formalities are done, do the reverse technigue to replace the container making sure you close it correctly.

I probably sound like a broken record but if you follow the instructions, the cache can be enjoyed by everyone.

Cheers

I am very sorry for the delay. I've just been busy with everything and maybe a little lazy as well. I've just had an idea for a new cache container with no metal parts to go rusty. Shouldn't be long before it's all ready to get pounded again by the waves.

After 2 DNF's and recent weather anomalies, I thought I'd see if the container was indeed "Taken by Storm". Even from a distance I knew something wasn't right and a bit of a poke around revealed nothing.
I still can't see how waves could've removed the container although it might've been the fishermen, that come here so often.
Will replace ASAP.

Lovely walk along the beach on a Sunday morning. Had a good look around GZ but couldn't find the cache even with the hint. This spot has copped a pounding during the recent weather and may have actually been "Taken by Storm".

DNF Sad looked all around GZ no sign of it, every spot was empty. It was a very nice walk though as the sun was setting Smile

Well we don't know about being taken by storm but today we could have quite easily been taken by Tsunami. We ignored the warnings after the Solomon Islands Earthquake and ventured out on the shelf. A deja "view" for "Tidal" indeed. The cache was visible but wedged tight and going nowhere. (Tsunami not withstanding) We covered it up again. The rust is progressing but the the contents were still dry.

Now whats that old rule of the sea?.......Never turn your back on the ocean? So we walked backwards all the way to the car.

What better time to visit a cache with the storm in its name than during an actual storm.
Despite the gale force winds and rain we braved the elements and after fighting off a man eating shark we reached the cache. The cache was visible as we approached GZ and where surprised it had not been taken by the storm. After the caching formalities we secured it as best we could but think it needs some camouflage of some sort.

There have been a few logs that have been saying that the container is rusting badly and you don't need long arms to reach it. Well, I thought I'd do a quick cache check.

The container is much closer as it was before so I'll leave it that way and cover it up - so please put the cover up back when you replace it. Secondly, rust has nicely etched part of the latch away - seawater is NOT nice on steel. The container is bone dry inside which means the seal is doing it's work.

It's sad to see so much rubbish left behind by those fishermen....

Cheers

Went back out there at low tide. A very interesting spot. My GPS says I am out in the middle of the Tasman sea. TNLN

I was having lunch with a friend nearby, and I'd already checked that the tide was going to be low, so it was time to go back and do this cache.

Glorious day for it. Hot sun and no wind.

The rocks were covered in American Study Abroad students, doing an ecological field trip counting mollusks. (Forty-nine of them in one small area alone, one girl told me. That's mollusks, not exchange students! Wink The teacher (I think it was) kept having to beat the sea gulls off his friend's lunch bag. That's the problem with ecological field trips - all those blasted animals! Wink

There's a lot about needing long arms in the log and notes for this cache. I have fairly short arms but I had no trouble retrieving it.

The cache box is rusting badly, but is still waterproof. Took nothing, left nothing. Thank you for the cache, it was swell (as those American exchange students would say. Wink

Alas the tide was up and I was not brave enough to head out there in the water with all my cameras and GPS. I did not know if the tide was coming in or going out. Sad

Got to within 200m but the tide was up. I'll be back though, this is a gorgeous area.

The cache was on my list
Today it just couldn’t be missed
The tide was low
So no excuse not to give it a go
I can’t believe the container was there
Not even wedged within its lair
Signed the log and added more swaps
This would be one of my favourite drops

My first cache of the day. It had to be because time and tide wait for no man. Arrived at the cache site with very heavy cloud cover. It was so heavy that the GPS had trouble maintaining a lock, and even dropped out a couple of times. Once I was ale to determine that I was with in a few meters of the correct location I was able to make a quick find as there really aren't too many hiding places there.
This is the first time I've been here. Every other time I've been nearby I've sailing past and definitely didn't want to get here by accident!

Parked in one of the side streets and walked along the beach but geo-mummy gave up half way and went back to the car. So geo-teenager and I ventured out to ground zero and as geo-teenager walked straight past it I reached in and got the cache.
Left hair elastic and eel toy as there was nothing in there to swap with.
Seems it has been found by a couple of muggles recently so we hid it better before heading back to the car.

Geeze arnt the parking inspectors feral at this spot! The boy and I did this one while the girls played on the beach and the mrs sat in the car. 4 of them descended on the carpark and booked a few cars, taking front and back photos, peering up close and personal with our car to make sure we had paid.

Anyways, we walked around to this one and found it easy. Container is starting to rust around the hinge area. Signed the log.

Interesting spot to place a cache.

Cheers

An easy find. We enjoyed our walk out in summery conditions watching a Sea Eagle return with its successful catch. We found the cache and then started hunting the rock pools for their hidden treasures. TFTC

Found this one rather easily, testing out my new waterproof hiking boots. (They're great, thanks...) I thought for a while I might not be able to retrieve the cache though, as there are not too many trees nearby, Grrr. Then, I got a creative idea which worked well enough.
TNLNSL - don't get stuck on a rising tide...

I checked the tides this morning and decided an early lunch was the go. You really need Inspector Gadget arms for this one. Excellent spot, and a nicely placed cache.
