A bit damp inside, easy find when here doing an adlab. Love discovering new places, great view!
What an awsome place to sit and take in the view with a flask of coffee a great find tftc a favorite from us
We are out and about catching up with our nephew and family who live nearby. Nice to have a cache on our way to visit. All good here.
I took today off for an extra long weekend and have headed up to the Mighty Manawat to mainly grab some adventure labs, but obviously there will some other caches along the way.A bit of vegetation to contend with but quickly found this old cache. All good here and TFTC.Find #6364 at 5 February 2024 12:05 pm
Wow, this case has been here quite some time. A bit of a clamber past the tree that has now grown substantially since when the cache was placed. A gorgeous view today can even see the windmills in the distance.
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. A lovely view from the top. Thanks for bringing us here
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend.I spotted the hint item but the others went in for the find. Thanks for the cache.
Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Well hidden.Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
I didnt realise this was such an old cache at the time, that explains why my arms had to really stretch to reach it, there is a bit more growth there now than when it was placed. Thanks for the hide MalcolmB

This cache was a bit of a three for one bonus with a lab, earthcache and traditional all on offer. This was the second fro the three that we found today. Always special to find an "old" cache too thanks MalcolmB. TFTC # 20124
HS and I traveled along this road to complete waypoints for an Adlab. HS informed me that this cache is further up the hill waiting to be found. Nearly needed a machete to attack the voracious foliage that is threatening to eat the hint. But soon had the log in hand. Thanks for the cache MalcomB.
Headed out here for an ad lab wp and wandered up to the lookout. Soon located the hint item and the cache. Thanks for bringing us here
A wet hike up the hill, followed by a few minutes scrounging around until we found the right hint object. Thanks MalcolmB!
Sadly we could only imagine the view as the cloud and drizzle came lower and lower. TFTC MalcolmB!
What a lovely peaceful spot, with an awesome view of the autumn colours in the valley. TFTC!
Had another half day at work so headed out for some caches while the weather still holds. Came here to start the ZZ and RR series. Lovely stop off and great views. Thanks for the smiley.
Found by Blenheim Bear on a wee day out with Marisa after singing at the ANZAC parade at Linton Camp. Thanks for the cache all good today. Blenheim Bear
With KR. Surveyed the area. More rabbits than Central. Spruce so green that it looked plastic! Tftc
A nice quick find thanks. An awesome view up and down the valley!
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for a family Christmas. Today we cruised around the Manawatu.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Came up here to get info for the Earthcache but of course I have to sign this one off. Headed for another concrete structure when I spied this one on the way. Changed tactics and came up trumps. What a slog up to get up here. TFTC
Found today with TwigNZ and Stardust, thanks for the cache and sorry for the copy/paste log.

I can't believe it's been almost a whole year since I last visited the Pohangina Valley. The last time I was here was in the company of Stardust718 and ThatWeirdGuy04, and so it was again today, the plan being to travel up the West of the valley and then return back down roads taken last year in order to have a chance to avenge some DNF's from that trip.
All logs were signed as either Team T.S.T or simply T.S.T as space allowed.
This was our first stop for the day, and we were treated to fantastic views of the valley whilst we made our way to GZ. The cache itself was a straightforward find, and once the log was signed and a few photos taken of the views on offer we were back on our way again.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Since I'm new to the Manawatu game board with its scores of potential new finds, I've decided to have another go at a streak of consecutive daily geocache finds. Last year I managed a streak of 186 days, so this time I'm aiming for 274 then 366 days. But furthermore if and when I've completed the streak I will have at least three caches each day of the calendar. Two challenges in one!
Today I only needed one. I tried to do it a couple weeks ago returning from Fern walk but I hadn't saved it offline. I could see it on the map but couldn't access the page. No such problem today. What a surprise to find this viewpoint and platform up here. The concrete structure was a surprise too.
Well worth the visit. TFTC Obviously I preceded the other visitor.

Took me a fair while to find the right hint item. Trusted my gps more and eventually spotted item and the cache. Views great up here. Tftc
Located 30 caches in the Ashhurst-Pohangina region on a “day out” caching today. Enjoyed the short walk with the geohound up to this one. Didn’t take long to find the correct hint item. Great views from up here. #2572. TFTC.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 4 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more Today I decided to go along the Zig Zag and Ridge Roads to collect these four plus most of the others along them as well.
This one was up there with the EC so just couldn't leave it alone.[:o)]
Cheers for the cache.

21 January 2019 13:47 yessss! Glad I didn't take the direct route from the parking spot.... or try to drive up further. Found after a short search, it's certainly wind y up here today! Tftc
In Feilding visiting family today and decided before heding for home needed to get an earthcache so it was off to the nearest earthcache which was in the Pohongina area, and to my surprise there was also another cache near by so why not sign the log, what an interesting spot and a well hidden treasure thank you for placing a cache here. now onto the earthcache then get a few more before we head back to Levin. Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
Signed Teambop. Came down to Fielding for the weekend with Philip.Perry, Tnxpro, Nzflossy, McJandals, Squirrel Nutcase and FapandGap . Staying at a farmhouse down the road from here.

Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile...
The area around ground zone looked to be a staging zone for cycling. It was difficult to find a parking space, and people were everywhere. We managed to get to this one eventually... TFTC.

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasbord of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

On a road trip with Team BOP, having a blast and gathering a few smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers
On a road trip with Team BOP to Feilding. Set off Friday night and back home Sunday. Lots of caches and lots of laughs with great weather and great scenery. Thanks to all the COs for giving us a awesome trip
Nice little stroll up the hill with tmann421, to the lookout. Track quite wet in places but didn't cause too much of a concern.
Found it, lovely views of Pohangina Valley today. Got The Big Red Car for a drive around Manawatu.
Found on a club cycle trip with 19 others. Wonderfull weather, inspirational countryside. TFTC
On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!
So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.
Missed the obvious with this hide, spent a few minutes hunting around for the hint item before I spotted it. How did I miss that for so long. Great views from up here.

Out for a geocaching picnic day with the grandies, MissT10 and Master N. Having been here earlier for the EarthCache and not realising this cache was at the same spot it was back up the hill for the grab. Was a quick find at GZ, TNLNSL and left as found. Thanks for the placement MalcolmB.
Out with LGLNZ and Master T - Geocaching and picnics....a great day. Please see the log for LGLNZ.
Thanks for the smiley.
Thanks for the smiley.
A nice early start this morning for tmann421 and I. Having just attended the rattll Xmas BBQ, we made our way to Fielding to collect a few more caches.
A nice quick find for us here. TFTC

Heading south once again for work tomorrow where I'm meant to presenting at an industry training conference, so to make up for it I thought I may as well work towards the DGSc Challenge that I'm doing. as to the elective that I chose, that was a real mistake (DT=<2.5), but then I'm almost there so no need to start all over once again.
Out here collecting the earthcache so couldn't really walk away without grabbing this one also. Nice quick find
thanks for the placement and the cache

#2916. I am heading north today to the Mega event in Turangi. So decided to go via Ashhurst and west side of the Ruahines to pick up caches in an area I haven't yet covered since starting geocaching. The day started wet in Wellington but was reasonably good in the Manawatu, just a few light showers. This one required a hill climb. Initially I went to another object that matched the hint only to see the GPS suggested it was elsewhere. The hiding spot was quite well disguised. Interesting to see this mark placed at this location. Signed the dry logbook and returned the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here. Certainly great views out over the river valley and Ruahine foothills from here.
As I was passing, I decided this was a likely place for a cache so I stopped. I was wrong; there are two caches here so I will have to return for the Earthcache. Good coordinates meant I walked directly to the cache. TFTC.
Out with Greenslime who had DangerSAM in tow. Meet a few friends at the top and while we were all solving the earth cache took the opportunity from Etherlord to mind DangerSAM while Greenslime and I ninja'd over (as well as one can do with little ones running around with GPS') over to the cache. Nice and easy, TFTC.
Well that was a surprising find....certainly wasn't what I was looking for. Great views up here if it wasn't for the earth cache and this cache it would have been a while til I found this one.
Found with MissSwiss who was very chuffed for her first find and she even let me sign the log first!
My first geocache! Found a TB in the cache too, I got to take it and move it on.
Today was Earth cache day and a small group went up to this little look out to check out the new Earth cache there and while we were there I could locate and sign this cache which has been waiting in the wings for a very long time. It was found with the help of the junior cachers but it is a shame that the concrete structure is almost over grown and the picnic table up there has been removed it would seem. Thank you for this cache and another smiley face. All was well at the cache.
Thanks to Etherlord for suggesting a group come here to find the nearby earthcache and earn a souvenir. As I had not yet found this traditional I took the opportunity to find and sign this one also. My GPSr was bouncing around a little and it took quite a while to spot the hint item (after exploring several other possibilities). It was a fun outing for the whole family and great to catch up with other local cachers again. The kids had loads of fun running around the area.
#817 Just happened to be up this small hill for the nearby earth cache. Took DangerSAM for a little outing in the front pack but i think it was just all too bright for the wee guy. Thanks to Thomas (etherlord clan) for trying to console him while JimmyNZ and I muddled around to find the cache, with help from some junior cachers. Easy find in the end with the clue. Thanks.
#19 Phew, glad we got out to find a cache, i was afraid i was going to loose my 'cache per week of life streak!' I am 14 weeks old. Mum took me in the front pack, but she forgot my sunglasses and man it was very bright. Some other man was holding me for a bit, and i could tell he knew what he was doing in trying to console me, but i just wasnt having a bar of it. So mum and dad had to bail early from the gathering, and I got some food. I think they found the cache, i dont know, i was soooooo distracted..... =)
I thought this one would be in the parking area but when I arrived the GPSr rapidly told me that it wasn't. Headed off to explore what looked like a possible access route and indeed it was. I was quite surprised to see the structure at GZ - makes sense but a bit bigger than expected. Found the cache quickly with good accurate coordinates, all in good condition. Signed log, TFTC!
Despite it being cloudy, I was distracted by the view and other concrete structures -I wasn't looking at the phone at the time. However, geosense returned and I located the cache -an interesting structure. Log was dry as a bone. TFTC.
This was a fun little adventure. One of us slipped over in the mud. The concrete structure was in a random spot. TFTC
Heading over to Woodville, caching in along the way.
This one took a while longer than expected, first with an error in navigation that had me onto the wrong road, then a bit of feretting around on site before hitting the mark.
Fantasic views, a few snaps taken

Lovely view. Found it difficult to find but succeeded in the end. Need to keep an open mind.
Forgot to log this one on Friday... it was well hidden as the area is a bit overgrown.
Tftc as it's great to go to new places - the view from here is spectacular on a fine day!

Halfway up the hill & I realise I've left my phone in the car...bugger. Not walking back down with the 2 kids in tow so onwards and upwards we go. Luckily searchSteve had given me a clue otherwise I would've gone back to the car empty handed. Great views & will be back with a picnic in summer. TFTC
Looked everywhere, went right upvto the top of the lookout - no concrete structure to be seen. Perhaps swept away in the slip???
Realised once we got here that we have been here before a number of years ago. Pretty sure we found it last time so presume we must have missed logging it. Never mind, found again today. tftc
We drove out to explore Pohangina Valley a bit but GPS turned out to be quite flat, so not quite the caching trip it could have been today. Fabulous views from here. TFTC It was really hot, so we had a swim at the Rangi Camp swimming hole.
Good find although had to take off cycle shoes to climb hill track. Gps slightly off so a bit of bush bash in bare feet but okay find.
Visiting a good friend in Pohangina Valley so dragged him out and about to grab some of the local caches. Lovely views from up here...found the cache...not quite the concrete structure I expected. TFTC
Today's mission was a good one; 50 caches, getting my bronze CITO and FTF Addict badges, moving from bronze to silver in both the Mysterious Cacher and Social Cacher badges and going up a belt! And, probably most importantly, becoming part of team FASTA which, along our travels, took part in probably one of the largest unplanned cache convergences this region has ever seen.
Almost drove right up to this one but the car in the way stopped us. Very nice view from up here and I'm impressed to see a 2006 cache still going strong. Good work!
