This was visited again today and the tree that was the hiding spot has now gone. Nor is there any other convenient hiding spot, nor has the work finished. The cache is therefore archived.

16-Mar-11
After nearly three and a half years it looks like they are preparing to cut down the tree which hid the cache. I will wait and see what happens but it looks like I will have to archive this one as there are no other obvious nearby hides.

Visited with lochb. GZ had been cut severely so finding it was a no go. Cache has gone. Sad

18 February 2011 15:48:00

This was an easy find today, the cache was a little exposed so I covered it back up.

A great location I parked close by and walked down to GZ.

Not many people around this afternoon.

Thanks for the history lesson Alansee.

Nice easy find and the Geo Beast enjoyed the off lead run too! I will definitely be back to this area to explore some more and knowing a bit about the history makes it all the more interesting! You certainly have to keep an eye out for muggles zooming (and sniffing!) by above AND below you when making this find, but the cache site itself can be quite discrete (so long as you are wearing camoflague at least!) As we approched this one i could see the container on the Ground, which made it for a really easy find.
I signed the log and replaced the cache where i am sure it should be.
Thanks Al for the cache.

I don't think I had my eyes open enough on this one. I was too focused on the existing bridge and approached from the wrong direction to note all the things I should have seen. The Brewery kind of dominates the other shore now doesn't it. There was a very angry Honey Eater (?) bird here today - most upset that I was wandering through its domain. I really thought I might get pecked and it certainly made enough noise to attract the attention of muggles on the track below. But I found the cache without any problem at all. The cache is a little damp inside (no doubt due to all the rain) but the log book is still dry. TNLNSL. TFTC.

Found today between showers of rain. I was hoping to leave a TB I picked up in Scotland here, as it's the closet cache to the CUBrewery and the TB wants to go to places where whiskey is made, and beer is about as close as you can get in Melbourne. Unfortunately, the cache was too small! Oh well, I'll have to think of something else.

A short caching daytime run with my good mate Marty (Quasar3671) and also with my wife, Nicole. Love these caches, with a very interesting history on the caching page. Nice one Alansee. Thanks for bringing me here. Glad it was back up and running so we could walk from the Abbotsford Convent on a nice morning. Cheers.

Quick find in the dark after working late. Spiders webs protecting the cache from every angle! Was able to retrive the cache without upsetting too many of them. Thanks.

17-Oct-10
I think that the tree clearing has finished and will check very shortly.

17-Oct-10
All the tree felling appears to have stopped so this cache is back up and running again.

30-May-10
Doh - I hadn't realised the cache had been archived when I visited today. I've obviously been looking in the right spot though as there were possum "signs" all around.

27-May-10
I had information that nearby trees were being removed by the council so went to check. It appears that they may be removing all non-indiginous trees in the park. I have therefore decided to remove the cache until it is clear what is going on. If this tree is removed then I plan to replace the cache nearby.

At least the possum can get some sleep at last!

14-May-10
I'm pretty sure I attempted and failed to find this one on a previous visit. This morning luck and better observation was with me for a fairly quick find. Came face to face with a possum that was just about guarding the cache too. TFTC, Biggles(NZ).

Nice hide in a nice area. It seems that a lot of people go walking and jogging on the track. Signed log. Took and left nothing. Thanks for the cache.

02-May-10
The hide seemed obvious but I didn't find the cache this time. The houses over the river are pretty amazing - not so good with the factories etc build right on top of them. I'll have a try another day, armed with the photo for extra guidance.

17-Nov-09
I was on the way home from a pub in Clifton Hill, so thought I'd pick this one up on the way. It was dark so I couldn't see everything that I would have liked to have, which just means I'll have to return on my bike sometime. Found the container easily enough though. I love a bit of history. Thanks Alansee.

evwally and tuanny boy found it. Tuanny boys first cache.

03-Oct-09
We temporarily became adopted dog owners as a muggle dog decided we were very interesting here.
Great spot, we never knew the history of this place, even though we'd walked past here heaps of times before.
Thanks for bringing us here.
Left a TB to lure more people here.
Thanks for the spot!

Thought I would call in on my way to work. I used to work in this general area a little while ago and thought that I had explored the area well. I have not been down this way before and very surprised to see what was here. Nice easy find. Caught the possum napping in the fork of the tree. Nature in the purest form. Loved the history. Thanks for bringing me here.
There was no coin in cache

14-Sep-09
Found on the way to work. Dropped off a coin and removed two bottlecaps. Suspect 5555 tb has been removed by muggles and bottlecaps substituted. This cache could be in danger as a chainsaw has been very busy close by!

13-Sep-09
The possum is still there! Oh so very cute, unless he is the one that eats my blossom tree?
Wonder how he gets any sleep with geocachers poking around his part of the forest!

#699. Nice hide. But the 5555 TB was not in the cache. It was probably retrieved by another cacher who made the find earlier today. However, the paper log entry did not mention taking the TB. TNLNSL. TFTC.

Our first Australian cache! After relocating to Australia from England just over three weeks ago today was the first opportunity we've had to get out and do some caching. It was a lovely walk along the river and we were lucky enough for the sun to be out and there not be a cold wind. We dropped off the '5555' TB which wanted to have things to do in relation to planes so hopefully it enjoyed the long flight over. TNSL TFTC

Found a few weeks ago at what seemed like muggle central. Waited for our moment then grabbed by teamauburn. Then off to the convent for pizza.

Before a bike ride to exercise the knees before the ski season, we parked the car close enough to this cache that we could not resist having a look. A quick find despite several walkers looking the other way. Maybe they were fascinated by the tin sheds over the river. TNLN.

This was our last cache for the day, and we were in the company of Monch's Mob. As the light was fading and it was cooling down it was a quick find. We did admire the large chimney nearby, and checked out the river. An interesting piece of history, thanks Alansee.

02-May-09
Last cache of a very pleasant day's caching with the squalids. The photo of the old bridge probably wouldn't have allowed the maniac cyclists that traverse it these days, although I'd greatly appreciate seeing them try it and put their own lives at risk as much as they did ours.

Really pleasant part of the river, and we would've had an even longer delay here if it hadn't been getting dark.

Out of the office for another quick lunchtime cache. I timed this one well because the heavens opened on the way back to the car.
A great history lesson Alansee, I would never have guessed that there had been anything special here. Even the local reveg. group didn't seem to know much about it.

gave this one another crack. used the camera to get views of angles I couldn't see, but that didn't help. but used the old percussion trick to find the hide Wink

02-Apr-09
Following a direct approach from a cacher I decided to check this one, and all is well! Smile

The fallen branches are from age and a wind storm some time ago, and nicely shield the hide from muggles.

Now there is a hint!

15-Mar-09
found a tree. now either the possums in this park weight about 100kg...or this tree has been trashed by the local hoodlums. I checked the other nearby trees and stumps for no extra joy. oh well.

29-Jan-09
Some would say I'm crazy, though with the extreme heat wave I decided to take a bike ride when it was relatively cooler than other times, which happened to be late at night (may well have been 10-15°C cooler, compared to the daily maximum of 42.9°C yesterday). Arrived in the general area of the cache just after midnight and found it within 10-20 min, so probably not a bad effort given I'm still a caching noob and had to find it in the dark with the aid of a bicycle light. Didn't see any midnight ghosts, though I did see a ringtail possum in the tree where I had parked my bicycle, just as I was leaving.

found on a Monday Evening 300 or bust Cache run

I got there right on dusk, wasn't able to see much of the river unfortunately though did observe the houses on the bank opposite, they are indeed close to the river though I don't know that I envy the odor which they would ensure from the nearby plant.

My advice - if it's near dusk, don;t follow the bank side dirt track towards the city.. esp when on a bike without lights!

Caching in the dusk, the sun was sinking in the West, a full moon rising in the East and the flying foxes (Bats) heading off on their nightly forage.
The cache was quickly retrieved and the TB extracted for its continued journey!
