Found it - a previous not found so very satisfying . Plastic bag has perished pretty much so a little damp - tftc
Found it!!! Was hoping to find one at the top! I forgot how steep the summit track is!
Hello from Blu and I!
Hello from Blu and I!
Bitterly cold up here today, a very fresh easterly wind with rain spits. The cache I located and signed was nothing like the one described on the web page however the location was spot on; TFTC
Whiteout , no views for me today! Cache has been found by quite a few muggles as well.
Weather was not that great today up here, so no views ️. Managed to find this one in the wind, rain, clouds etc. Cache is all good here. TFTC.
A simple find this morning on the way out from Bobs Biv overnight. Started to drizzle on arrival at GZ so tucked into the bushes for lunch. A very short search had the cache in hand, and we meandered down to complete the day.

Today I enjoyed a great walk up Mt Thomas with Tarmacprof. We walked up the wooded gully track and down the summit track. We definitely enjoyed the wooded valley track the best. Thanks to all the cache owners for making this a fun caching walk!
Yay I made to the top. TFTC a nice hide. Dull day but clear enough to see for miles.
Love the waterproofing!
What a view indeed, she's a steep one the ridge track.
Time for a snack I think.
Thanks for hiding

Out for a wee mushroom hunting trip this afternoon. Also found a few geocaches. Interestingly, we found not one, but two caches here. An unnamed eclipse container with a log that didn't look like it's been found since 2015!

Omg. Its taken multiple attempts with my young family over the years but today we made it. First log of 2021. So proud of us all.
Good to bag this one as was missing when I was last here a few years ago. No problem today! Thanks
Camping in the campground at the start of the track for a few days while we cache around the general area. Today's plan was to head up the Wooded Gully track to Mt Thomas and come down a different way. As far as up & down, mud, tree roots and zig zagging goes, this was probably the hardest of the track options for me. At least we had plenty of stops along the way as it was also the track with the most caches on it.
While Andy headed to the cache Hill 1043, I carried on to Mt Thomas. Once there I made a quick find of the cache then had a natter to a couple of trampers for a while until Andy arrived. We then had some lunch and headed off again. Tftc

Found it... and the original... within 3m of each other two for the price of one
Nice walk with good views from up there. We were visiting family over Xmas and decided to go for a nearby walk. Tftc
Found a cache lying on the ground under the trig so put it under a rock between two trees near coordinates. TFTC

Good view and good weather - was unusually calm up at the summit.
In fact, it was so nice that we decided to have a picnic right next to the trig.
And then, time to loop down via Wooded Gully track.

Up the Wooded Gully Track, over to Junction 953 and now to Mt Thomas for a bit of a leg stretch. Great views up here but jeez, she is blowing! Cheers
We set off for an adventure to Bob's bivvy for the night, heading up the summit track, along the ridge, then back down along the wooded gully track. The temperatures were unusually hot and we were wishing there was more water going up, as we did not see any for 24 hours. We had great fun finding the caches along the way, as they were making the long journey more interesting. Amazing views from the top!!! TFTC!!
Finally getting around to logging a bunch of caches I got with Trifolia Argentea on 30 December, when we went on a climb of Mt Thomas. Thanks, and sorry for the late logs!
Grand views from the top here! Pleased to have climbed another little mountain. Thanks for the cache!

Mirko83 and me traveling through New Zealand from the 15th of december to the 10th of January. We rent a camper, one of the jucy green ones. We made a long list of places we want to visit. Geocaches are on our list as well. This will be fun
We were in Akaroa before and arrived very late here yesterday. We are going to hike to the peak of Mount Thomas today. The whole walk took a few hours and not only did we find a lot of geocaches, but we found also mushrooms. So we had some really fresh food to cook in the evening. There were no clouds in the sky so we also got a little bit sunburned. Thanks for hiding and maintining the cache.

Adventure; Crig & a trig. Cache 1/4. Quick & easy find, cheers. Up in the clouds figuratively & literally today.
20 Geocaches in One Day. My biggest day caching ever. I wanted a good leg-stretch so I climbed Mt Thomas up the summit track and came down the Wooded Gully track, finding pretty much every cache along the way. Cool breeze. Nice views from the top through patchy cloud. Lovely bush on the way down. Found a few more on the drive home to make up 20. Cheers to every cache owner for placing and maintaining these.
On a mission with Shannonp1 to Complete the Mt Thomas loop. Day dawn bright, clear and warm but the forecast was accurate and we were in cloud mid way up and heavy rain and hail before the top. But we weren't alone with others running past and walking in the opposite direction. Would have been nice to see the view but will have to be another day. Quick easy find on this one.
Contacted Surveybase the night before to see if he was keen for some caching around Mt Thomas. The reply was a bit cryptic but I hadn't looked at the weather forecast, around midday it became clear why. Rain hail and wind was the ticket. It wasn't cold though so we carried on through. Not a lot of sightseeing from the top due to the cloud. Nice spot though. Quick find on this one. TFTC.
Found with some girl guides. We were supposed to go into the whafedale, but the ford was up so coming here was our plan b. The girls did awesome coming up here with packs on. A very enjoyable trip. TFTC
Walked up the Summit Track, the hard slog up, but what a view indeed today, it was just stunning and very clear. Bits of snow about too. Been up here a few times and today we finally grabbed the cache. Thanks so much
Mrs TG took the day off from writing and decided on a 'family' walk "up a hill".....with wee dude (8) and wee wee dude (6) we took a while to come up with something, Mt Thomas was it, with the aim of getting as far as possible. Mrs TG and I carried food and water and we let the boys take turns with the GPS.
Didn't start walking until late morning, but amazed and proud that the boys made it as far as they did without complaint.....880m altitude, not quite to the track junction with the Ridge Track (only a few minutes away as I found out!), MrsTG and the boys turned back downhill...Mr TG continued to the summit then straight down the summit track to the carpark...(then back up the wooded gully track to meet the family & continue walking back out....
I saw the dnf logs and came prepared with a replacement - small sistema.
After the family turned back just below the Ridge I continued up and along to the summit. Had a look around gz and didn't find anything in the most likely spot. No longer a pair of trees as one has fallen over! Hid my replacement and piled the rocks on top naturalish. BYO pen. Contains log, two Lincoln uni highlighters and a 2015 Anzac 50c piece, legal tender and the first NZ coin to be circulated with colour (black).
Took a few photos up top. Then took the steep summit track down...gosh that's steep - how do people walk up it? It's unrelenting....rather hard on the legs downhill and with the slippery Pine needles! Down at the bottom in next to no time. Beat the family so walked back up wooded gully track until I met up with them again. Great day out and great views from up here. Cheers.

Hmmmm- see quinellas log- we think it's gone but dreading someone else logging a find.
Gorgeous day up here today anyway- clear and not a breath of wind.

Pretty sure this is missing as found a matching hide location as well as a wider search. Recent log was quite specific though and a number of logs indicate accidental or muggle finds. The spot is the nearest welcome shady rest to the summit which probably account for this. Unfortunately had no suitable replacement with us. Photo attached of location.
Thanks for that. I will check on it soon and if it's gone I will replace. Thanks again.
What a beautiful day to be up Mt.Thomas! This is the second time in a week that I've been up to this spot. I came up on Friday to do a recky mission before bringing a group of year 10 students up. Today we brought 20 students up to the summit to enjoy the view! As we were sitting having some lunch at the summit I thought I'd check if there are any caches around and bingo..... I was sitting propped against the sign and turned out to be 5m away from this cache!
The container was superbly protected from the elements. I'm giving this a fav point for being surprisingly close to my sandwich eating spot!
Nacho the pug didn't manage to visit this cache as his wee legs would never had carried him up to the summit and I wasn't prepared to carry him up!

MadCat9 had the day off work so we made a plan to get together and climb Mt Thomas. We meet up at 8am at a spot and then all went in one car. I was the driver. Team MadNosyBear were off, arriving at the carpark at 9am.
The weather was just right. Not to hot and not too cold.
The last part of the walk in the forest was the worst section. We were determined to have lunch at the top. Thankfully the part above the bush line was awesome. We made it. Thanks for providing the incentive to keep going.

NosyBear wanted to stop for lunch before the top as the tummys were rumbling but Madcat convinced us that it was only another 15-20mins to the top, so we slogged it out and were rewarded with a cache, great views and a full belly. The last wee slog to the top was worth the push. Thanks for the cache.
At last a day when all three of the Mad Nosy Bear team were free (BBear44, Nosynel and Madcat9). We picked a route where we could combine caching with our shared interest of tramping! We were pleased to arrive at the top but couldn't resist finding this one before taking a lunch break. Awesome views up here. Thanks for placing the cache.
Considering the age of this cache it has had remarkably few visits. We spent the night in Barnaby down at the DOC campsite and then set off mid morning to walk to the Mt. Thomas summit. We decided on a loop going up the Summit Track and back down the Wooded Gully Track. I am VERY glad we did it that way around, because going DOWN the Summit Track on an unrelenting 30 degree slope over all those dry pine needles would be very scary and very painful on the old knees. Mrs B was also glad because you didn't get to see the summit until you were almost on top of it that way: she reckons it would be a bit of an anti-climax walking to it along the open bit of the Ridge Track instead.
At GZ I was serenaded in the tree just above my head by one of the many bellbirds we saw on the walk. We also saw and heard silvereyes and a couple of tomtits for good measure. Cache was in good order and log was quickly signed. Then we sat at the summit to eat lunch and take in the views...there was little wind, no cloud and it was reasonably warm. The sky was very clear today: we could easily see what looked like Mt. Cook and a big section of the Southern Alps to the south of it. A really great day. TFTC
Nearly forgot to say, the round trip from the campsite measured exactly 12.0 kms on the GPS.

First time up this was since I was at high school. a day of hiking with KiwiBoy95. Steep but enjoyable hike up the hill and amazing view from the top. Time to make out way down. I feel a trip to the rangiora bakery for a donut after this!!
After a 30min lunch stop amongst the tussock over looking the Canterbury Plains, we carried on along the ridge to GZ Hill 1043. A quick easy find before we made our way down the steep Summit Track. TFTC
I was doing the tramp up to the summit with some friends, and one of them found this one by accident! TFTC

A long weekend means a hike away! - Unfortunately a busy life, and heaps on my plate meant only an overnight trip could be achieved!
So Bob's Bivvy has been on my to-do list for a while, and figured that that looked like a good one to tick off now!
We rocked off at a casual time from home, given it was only 5 1/2 hours there, and we now have daylight for miles due to summer!
Managed to make it up to the top, in pretty much the sign posted time - 2hrs - and that included our huge bags, so not too bad!
Looks like this one is found by muggles quite often looking at logbook!

Have to say the Name says it all, great day topped of with this cache, enjoyed it TFTC
Replaced damaged box with a nice shiny new one. Also new log book and pencil. Removed all the rubbish items from box will replace with new one next time I'm up there.
Forgot to remove the trackable that's been there for a while. So please the next person to find it take the trackable to a new place..

Walked up the summit Track to meet up with a group coming up Woody Gully Track. Had lunch at the top but unfortunately cloudy so no view today. Cache is damp because of the cracked container but have left it upside down so no more water should get in for now. Hopefully can be replaced before the first snows 0f 2014. I have left a trackable which needed another adventure.
Didn't realise that the St Mary Star of the sea was a trackable geocoin or would have moved it on so it is still in the cache.

What an awesome view from up here. Really windy today but the 65 minutes it took me to walk up the Summit Track got the sweat going. I took a while up top to enjoy the view and had a quick snack at GZ as this was the most sheltered spot. One of the trees mentioned in the hint has been uprooted quite recently. The cache was found easily as it was partly exposed and full of water .The lid was cracked and the most likely reason for the saturation. This cache needs some TLC. The log book is very damp. I let the wind dry much of it out but it still needs a new lid. Great spot.

Found during nice day with Mracek 303 team. The track up was nice. Little bit windy on the top area. On a car park we just wear shorts and T-shirts. But when we reached the top we put all clothes we had in the bacpack. It was really very cold and windy up there.

Nice view from top, that we enjoy. Not far from Christchurch for one day trip we walked up via Summit track. Dropped off GC St. Mary Star of the Sea
Windy but nice view at the top. Stop for lunch with the Christchurch tramping club.
Did some walking around the area and finished off with this find. A great spot, with million $ views. The down hill to the carpark was brutal, 70 minutes and my knees were happy to sit in the car. Thanks for the hide.
Great views today and the dogs enjoyed the walk! left some waterprof matches,TFTC!!!

This is my first week geocaching. I know Mt Thomas better than I know my way round my own kitchen. Used my topo to get location and then went there. Guessed it as soon as I went up. Awesome. Thanks for making this training trip up the track fun, knowing I was going to find some treasure I didnt even know was there a week ago! I put an extra bag around the sign in book as it was getting a bit damp.
Loved the long hike but finding a cache at the top was well worth it. First time I have seen and touched snow. What a feeling to get to the top! Woohoo! Found with Espired. TFTC!
Been up here four times before but only started geocaching the last two days (never thought there would be one up here). Very easy to find. TFTC
A hard climb to the top via summit track great veiws weather fine, got cache, found travel bug.
Headed along top ridge then down long red beach ridge track to car.

Man dankt!

I am afraid it was the case of what view! The cloud settled in just as I was getting to the top. But as I was walking up I did manage to get a glance of the spectacular view. TFTC
Decided to knock this cache off as part of my DGSc challenge - I'll probably add this to the vertical elective Took the direct Summit Track, and it was certainly a bit of a grunter. Got up to the cache in 1h18m, which include a few hundred metres slogging through the snow that was still on the ridge road, and up to a couple of feet deep in places. Lovely view though, as the cache name says. Cache was found with rocks off and lid only just attached. Couldn't tell if it was human or animal muggles. Replaced it and all seemed OK. DOC signs were certainly way out as I went car-cache-cache in 2h flat. Cheers Gav [9699]
I've been here several times before pre-caching and never tire of the view. Walked up Wooded Gully Track which was muddy and slippery in places. There was still a little ice in shaded areas coming across the tops to the cache. Found the cache quickly, filled the log then lazed in the sun admiring the scenery. Fresh snow on the distant ranges as far as the eye could see from Kaikoura to way down south. The temperature was not all that high but the sun combined with next to no breeze made it a treat. The Summit Track in comparison to Wooded Gully is steep and dull. Recommend the latter. TFTC. I love Kiwi mountains and caches provide reasons to revisit... [^]
45 mins to 'Where Goblins Play', a 10 min break, 40 mins slog to the saddle and 22 mins to the cache. Wow, what a view. A perfect day to be out in the hills. 20 mins to re-fuel and admire the view, then a 32 minute jog back down the Summit track. TFTC.
Found easily after a gruelling trudge up from the carpark via the Wooded Gully Track. Awesome view, and an awesome track. Sat up the top for an hour or so admiring the view while we had a cuppa and something to eat. Returned via the Ridge Track - the loop took us 5 hours.
