Too many security cameras and idiots around GZ

07-Feb-09
Did not find due to muggles and will not be returning. Found the requirements to complete this cache quite unappealing. Was okay with getting wet, but it was very icky in there with the weeds/scum or whatever that stuff was growing up between my toes. Thankfully the muggles across the road never went inside so I didn't have to go and actually retrieve and return the cache.

Disappointed in this one:

1. Don't like finding out you have to wade through scum. (No I'm not going to encrypt that, other cachers have a right to know).

2. Felt it was too high profile an area for the final. Especially with the security cameras all around.

3. The broken tile at the WP may have been a cacher, as I can see the one I used getting broken in the same manner - not very respectful of the property, this cache.

Not really a DNF, we worked out where cache was, just didn't choose to retrieve it

Thanks for bringing us to a new location anyway

Found, thankfully, on a particulalry hot spring day. Busy day with muggles at this location. Clever puzzle -took a few minutes to crack the code. Great cache idea

Aha, that was easier than expected. Pleased to report no didemyo was found. TNLN

On a "geography" trip with eldest junior (1st year geo student) to look at new developmengts (aiming for Pegasus). This was a must do. Great cache! Love the idea of using the centre piece of the image of the development this particular way!! Great stuff. Thanks.

Well, PB seemed to know exactly what all this cache was about (his brain just works like that!!!) and before Annie knew it, she was doing acrobatics to retrieve the first WP. Then, as she was preparing to drive away and come back another day, when she realised that PB was making preparations to actually retrieve the final!!!!Surprised Those who know...... will know what a crazy plan that was ...... given that there was snow and ice in town that day!!!
Just as well we were heading towards a nice warm fire at Kiwi Nomad's house!!!!!
+ polar bear

Have been meaning to do this one for a while, hunted for the WP but coundn't see it. Why is it always Team Chelmo caches which I seem to struggle with, I will never know.

Gave up after 20 minutes of hurried searching and casual looks as muggles drove past. Took a stab at what it cound be, and there it was.

Not too many people around for a fine day during school holidays, tftc

Finnaly got round to doing this one and others in the area.
A nice day to be out at the lake.

"G" is for Got-it. I met Bitsprayer here last time as we both got the puzzle part to solve at home and now I've found it. A nice day for it at least Smile Cache is nice and dry. TNLN Thanks.

["G" that was clever. Should have taken in the wee hint about] bringing a towel. Also should have tried doing it on a day when the temp got above 6 degrees! Underestimated the depth and ended up with wet trackies as well as cold, wet feet; ended up at the Warehouse buying a new (read dry) pair of jeans. [having got that off my chest, thanks for a very clever, entertaining cache.]

It was fun watching Mum from the car get this cache. She brought it back so we could see in it.
We haven't seen an ammo can before.
Thanks for the cache.

09-Aug-07
Had to use the phone a friend option which in it self was not easy as no coverage. Drove around the lake as we had not been out this way before. Boys wanted to go home but Mum wanted one more try. At last got coverage! Got Mark on phone and discussed this one as well as one other one of his then on to the job at hand.
Found wp 1 and thought my retrievel was very clever. Had intended on not solving the clue but coming back another day but then we decided to have a quick look and got it ok.
Knew where it would be but thought...
Well I was the one who wanted to geocache so I got the short straw again.
brrrr
That smiley is well earned!
- two dice
+ USA survey pin
+ Canaian geocoin wanting to go to Papa New Guinea (placed here as this is the first cache found in a while and don't know when or where I will find the next one)
No 69

Yippee!! Came down to Ashburton today to complete this and determined we were. Had a few ideas after failing a previous time, this time they paid off. Really want to say a lot about our adventures with this one but unfortunately it would give a lot of it away. J was sent to retrieve the cache after B managed the WP (hmmm who got the short straw here?) We are in full agreeance with Bitsprayer Brrrrrr.
Nicely designed cache. TNLN Cheers!

Good to get this one off the list, all I can say is Brrrrr

Many Thanks Bitsprayer

The cache is "G"ood to "G"o again Razz

The final cache has become visible at the present time so will disable for a few weeks until this problem corrects itself.

Finally, I got back to getting this cache. Dead easy. Straight out retrival with no muggles around - what a change!!

Logged a couple of my TB's through it ('keewee' and 'My Car'), and retrieved again. TNLNSL

Thank you Team Chelmo for bringing us out here today - it was very fitting that we should be here today. "Farewell Gordon - God Bless". Very clever cache. Put army truck in (in keeping with theme of cache container)and took whistle out. The contents of the cache don't appear to be in keeping with the wishes of those who made it.

1311. Well it certainly wasn't going to get the best of us this time and when we looked up the cache listing before leaving home we couldn't believe the help that was now available - it seems to grow every time we look!

We didn't give away too much of what we thought in our previous log but here are some of our notes from an email we sent Team Chelmo - just so you can have a good laugh at our expense!

We have thought about it since we were there and on reading carefully and thinking about what you said we realised where we made our big mistake - we were busy looking for an ammo can! The bit that wasn't clear was that there was a stage in between. We assumed that you worked out some "clever" idea while you stood at the 100 sign then looked around and walked a short distance to an ammo can! We thought 100 and two LOOS was so clever that we had to be right! So than we never tried to think it through in some other way!! We did drive right around the lake though just in case it jumped out at us - well you never know!!

So you can see how all the extra information that is now available made it very easy for us to think through this problem and attack it from an entirely different direction. In this case - on a wet Wednesday afternoon - we were much more in tune with what to look for and how to do it. Luckily there was no-one around so we were able to do all stages very quickly and get the cache safely logged and re-hidden.

This is an excellent cache and we greatly enjoyed the hunt.
-Keyring + pair of dice.
Thanks
Iris & Rodney

Took my wife this time... Same birthday rules as taking my daughter on my first geocache.
NOTE FOR FUTURE HUNTERS.... My GPS is accurate to 1m and IRONICALLY there is a MasterGuard sign at the co ordinates listed, The "G" on the masterguard sign has nothing to do with it.
Heaps of fun even if I had to use the phone a friend option.
You have to be very "secret Squirrel". Items were depleted, so I restocked.
- twisty knot game
+ 1990 20c coin
+ Rubber door stop (new)
+ whistle key chain.

Stopped in and did this one on our way home (to Greaymouth) from a caching holiday in Central Otago). Loved the final cache!!! Took Geocoin.

05-Jan-07
I found this cache on a caching holiday with my Dad (Moneydork). He made me retrieve the final cache !!

03-Dec-06
Very cool! Once I'd decrypted the clue, it still took a bit of thinking about - but I think that i'd have even managed to find it without the updated clues.
-2 x coins ( better leave one as 'bait' Wink) Thanks.

19-Nov-06
Well, I found it - both the WP, and the final after solving the puzzle. This spot is an interesting area with a lot of potential for geocaches, but I'd have to agree with the previous searchers that instructions are still a little ambiguous - I'll email the owner to give my views. Even on an overcast Sunday afternoon, the muggles were an ever-present ever-moving threat, particularly considering the method needed to retrieve the final cache by solo effort!! A helpful muggle-watcher would be very useful. And here's a cryptic comment for all those "watching" this cache - getting the final cache on a rainy day would hinder the searches of those who come close behind you!!
No swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf(635)

19-Nov-06
ARHHHH - Well sort of didn't find it... after I solved the puzzle it was then obvious!! I'd been on the right track on my first visit even without the updated hints, etc. I could even see it today, but not get to it due to too many muggles and not wanting to risk discovery! Will return very, very soon to "Find it" at the right time of day! Wink

Just a quick note to advise the listing has been altered to make it clearer what you are looking for. A reminder that since the FTF like the original contents so much I have replaced them, that means at the moment the contents are still as listed (Except the coins, sorry) Although there is a ckayaks personal geocoin waiting there.

10-Nov-06
Only 1 finder! Well, I'm not surprised. Maybe I was just having a bad day but I thought geocaching was all about using a gps to find a cache.
P.S. Team chelmo has made some alteration to the web page since my visit.

Hmm... maybe people are thinking it's harder than it is Twisted I've added an additional hint to the listing, please note in your logs if you needed it.

04-Nov-06
Well we went to the waypoint and were sure we worked out where to go but had no luck finding the cache! We searched for a long time even though there were hundreds of muggles very close to us and many more further around. This is a lovely spot and it's good to see it being so well used. We'll have to return at some stage to actually find the cache.
Thanks
Iris & Rodney

Dad (keewee01) brought me down here after work to help him find it. Went to the WP... but WHERE OH WHERE from there! Chose wrong time of day too... far too many muggles passing by!

I left Christchurch at 5.30am with a non geocache friend.
Telling me i was crazy, to go down there.
Looking for this cache.
He was driving. i paid for the petrol.
I think i converted him lol.

also droped into another cache
and picked up a coin. on the way home.

I took, the magnectic keyholder.
(which will be turned into a cache or part of a cache hint)
for that i left behind a phillips screw driver.
also pick up the instant kiwi tickets.
and replace that with a flat head screw driver.

So if you brake down, you might have some tools to fix the car lol

now i am off to log the First to find cion Big Grin

Have a nice day.

Well it looks like the FTF of this cache was impressed by the trading items left in it as well as the coins left for the FTF Twisted I will try to get down before the weekend and leave some more appealing swaps for those of you who enjoy this side of geocaching as well as the cache find.

Edited to let you know the cache has the original "sawps" in it again along with a ckayaks personal geocoin. Happy caching Smile
