I had decided to join the second day of *The Great Victorian Cache Crawl*... so I was up early to get to Tatura with a couple of hours to go cache hunting before the activities kicked off with a CITO. Needing a Multi today for a challenge I am working on, I headed out the Cemetery for this cache. With no one around, it was an easy task to collect the required information and find the cache. Thanks **djcache** for the cache... and highlighting an often overlooked part of our history.
Well my well earned 2 week break has come to an end as Im heading home today after staying in Rochester, Hay, White Cliffs, Cunnamulla, Toompine, Charleville then Cunnamulla again, Wanaaring, Hillston then Tatura last night. The trip included some very big detours due to lots of road closures due to the rain but it was still a very enjoyable trip. The sun has disappeared now and there is moisture in the air as well.I havent cached in Tatura before but when I was younger we used to cut through here to get to my sisters dairy farm.Finished of 2 Ad Labs then onto a few others then to start heading home. After my walk around the wetlands and the small lake I made my here to the German War Cemetery. We used to drive past Dhurringile Mansion each time we came up to visit my sisters farm and there was always reports of detainees just walking out.I have been told by one of the volunteers of the museum it is about to be closed.A very well kept cemetery and these people here are a very long way from home.I paid my respects as I was walking around gathering what was needed.Got a GZ and off I went.I have already done its sister cache in Murchison previously.A fav goes out to you for bringing me here. Thanks djcache TFTMC.
11:10Staying in Shepparton for a few days, we had an interesting day, out & about, finding a variety of caches, thinking of the Anzacs and attending a fabulous Central Victorian Annual Get Together -2024 Event in Tatura. We really enjoyed this multi and the history it revealed.A BIG thank you to the CO who placed this cache.36914
Tatura staying in the RV camp area,We completed the caches that were close to the town This was a great way to visit the area,Thanks djcache for hiding this cache.
Didn’t find cache. Checked our sums a couple of times. Loved the history and started chatting to a lady in the cemetery who sent us to the Tatura museum which was amazing. Thanks for making us stop to find out about this amazing area.
They certainly are a long way from home so it is fantastic to see this cemetery in their honour.
We wandered around, not only to collect the clues but to admire the neat memorial plaques and pay our respects.
Lest We Forget.
Thanks djcache for the multi placement.

TFTC. djcache for your cache Long Way from Home I (Germany) that we found today.
We are staying at our daughter’s farm block jut outside Shepparton. After the overnight and morning rain the sun started to make an appearance. We decide to head out to Tatura for a few hours caching. All caches found in good order.
We had been here previously . Not something we were aware off. Caching certainly gives us some great history lessons.
Find Count: 16273

The JAMS team (JJ52 allister w, mogni and sir_spectre) were on a road trip heading to the Rutherglen Mega event (staying in Corowa) for 3 days then winding our way home via Albury, Wangaratta, Bendigo and various other places in between. It was a great week with many more caches found than we expected. There were targeted caches, challenge caches, Ad Labs, events and various others to fulfill various statistics for the four of us. We were lucky with the weather, it rained a bit on our way over on Friday, then half a day after we left Wangaratta but on the whole it was great caching weather. We did drive a few slippery muddy roads, but nothing too bad. We also caught up with lots of people either at events or out in the field and enjoyed many great chats. All in all a fun time with lots of Victoria explored and then very tired when I arrived home. [^]
Today started off wet when we left Wangaratta heading in a round about way to Bendigo finding caches in a different LGA and others that we had targeted, but thankfully the rain stopped around lunch time which was good.
We spent a bit of time caching around Shepparton as we wanted to find at least 20 caches in this LGA.
Thanks for the cache djcache.

Stamped as JAMS - JJ52, alllister w, mogni, sir_spectre. All of these teams are from South Australia and after some major planning we managed to find approx 700 caches while being away for a week. Also qualifiied for a variety of challenges, found LGA's and had lots of laughs. Found while attending the Victorian Mega in Rutherglen.
Thanks
Thanks
The JAMS (JJ52, allister w, mogni and sir_spectre) go mega... We came, we cached, we laughed, we hugged and we had a great time. All caches were replaced better than found. It may have taken one day to get there, but it took us 5 days to get home
Thanks for placing this cache for us to find

Trying to get Allister w multi numbers up. Tryiing to get to 20 finds in this LGA. I am from not so far from home as germany.
Found with JAMS (( JJ52, Allister w, Mogni, plus sir_spectre ) Mitchell&hound wasn't with us this trip) crew. All logs stamped as JAMS to save log space. This trip we are off to the Rutherglen Mega and then slowly coming back to S.A. for a total of 8 dys and 7 nights. The targets of this trip are for JJ52 to get 11 more multi to get to 1000 multi's and a few more Victorian LGA's, Allister W was targeting 17 virtuals ( or as many as he could get ) a few more Victorian LGA's Mogni to make the Rutherglen Mega her 20, 000 find and also for her to complete all Victoria LGA's, sir_spectre needs 1 more multi to get to 1000 multi's and get his Victoria LGS's down to 2 LGA's left. We got 20 or more finds in a LGA if we stayed in there over night. We also detoured to stamp any challenge caches that we were " in the general area off " and to complete that challenge before we came back to S.A. This meant that some times dirt road (s) had to be walked down because they were to wet to drive down and/or haven't been repaired since last years flooding. We started off the holiday in the rain and then that cleared up only to start raining and a overnight thunder storm but most of the trip was dry. Over 600 caches found for the trip including over 120 lab stages in that total. Got to complete the GPS Maze at the Rutherglen Mega for a 2nd time. Allister w was the team driver for all of the Victorian part of the trip. I think this was the first trip ever to Victoria that the extension pole didn't get used but the 6.2 meter ladder did get a work out.

Back in Tatura again for the weekly soccer training. Now that it’s getting dark why not geocache instead of walking the streets.
This was the first for the night. With head torch on, pen and palm of my hand to write on, I was soon at ground zero.
A bit of a stretch to get over the fence ( could have walked around), but who doesn’t like a short cut.
TFTC. Love reading the history of areas you know nothing about.

Wanting a Multi for the day, this Golden-Oldie was the choice
Did the number grab and went back to the warmth and comfort of the GeoMobile to crunch the numbers.
I had to make sure i did that...... s l o w l y
as it is very common for this wee-blue-birdy to muff up sums ha ha
The sums were done correctly coz i was at GZ with a swift find in hand and i was signing the log at 14:03 on Thursday 28 July 2022
Danke für den Old Gentleman Cache, djcache, ich hatte Spaß dabei

Another Great piece of Australian history shown to Grub62 and I by djcache. I had no Idea of this and the Long Way from Home I (Italy) sites until our visit today. I assisted Grub62 with the gathering of information and then she made the calculations (as she is a lot better at that than I am). then on arriving at GZ I had a short search of the area and was starting to broaden my search when I rechecked the data then rechecked GZ to find the cache well hidden under leaf litter. Thanks for bringing us to this hidden gem of a place and TFTC.
Bunadoorian and I were en route to Shep and wanted to collect a couple of caches recommended to us on ANZAC day. This was our second one today. We had driven by the Homestead on ANZAC day but was more interested then in the current use of the site as a friend had completed some time there recently. Today we were viewing it in a different light. We had been to Long Way from Home 2 (Italy) earlier today and again we were surprised to see such a well kept cemetery. I found the cache description very informative. In finding all the details needed to calculate GZ I was saddened to see so many young men's names. I can't imagine how hard it was for parents to lose children at war - it doesn't matter from which country they come from. Information gathered and calculations made - Bunadoorian and I found the cache in good condition. TFTC and for showing us another piece of Australian history djcache.
Apart from finding incidental caches in Shepperton when we have passed through before, we stopped in the city for a couple of nights and today we were guided around the area by a local cacher (for which we were very grateful. This was one of the caches we visited.
This was a most interesting site to visit - we don't tend to think of German War graves in Australia. Data collection was straightforward. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks djcache for a most interesting multi cache.

Find #2817 for me. Found at 10:52am with my dog Bonnie before attending the ANZAC Day event in Tatura. Well, I started out in the wrong cemetery and wondered why I couldn't find any of the iron crosses or the large plaque at the back of the cemetery. Once I moved to the adjacent military cemetery (as per posted coordinates, duh!) all was revealed and I very quickly found the required numbers. In the end, I made another mistake with one of the numbers, but took a hunch on where the final hide would be based on the hint (assuming my easterly calculations were correct) and made a quick find there. Thanks so much for highlighting the lives and bravery of these servicemen who died so young djcache, which was very appropriate for ANZAC Day! Now on to the ANZAC Day service in town... Lest we forget.
So many young men dying in foreign lands for nothing. War really is the worst of humanity. Thanks for the enlightening cache, a good one to do on anzac day.
Found this one a while back while visiting Tatura and l must admitl have always had a bit of a soft spot for visiting a cemetery or two in my travels, be it whilst caching or not. This one didn't disappoint and after a little number crunching and head scratching set off and soon had the well hidden cache in hand, many thanks djcache for bringing me here and for the history and also highlighting the fallen serviceman of this area.
Interesting set of graves.
e.Gregory1 and Freddo decided to travel to Wangaratta for Geocaching Victoria’s first 2022 Mega event. The attraction of GeoMaze icon was just too tempting. We packed the Land Cruiser for a bubble environment. There would be some public exposure but we would be keeping it minimal. Fortunately we did not bother with any warm clothes. Fortunately we packed some Bushmans with +20% DEET. There were caches to find and we found caches. We saw a lot of interesting places and met the occasional geocacher or two in the field.
I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count.
This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and a Samsung S8. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs...
Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.
Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke für den Cache. Gracias por el caché. Bedankt voor de cache. Kiitos kätköstä. Zikomo posungira. Terima kasih untuk cache. Hvala cache. Köszönöm a cache. Nga mihi mo te keteroki. Dankie vir die kas.

Found as I made my way from Adelaide to the Mega event at Wangaratta with Freddo.
We meandered our way across northern Victoria, camping along the river and generally avoiding contact with other people as far as possible to minimise covid risks. We targeted some specific caches of interest, but also took the opportunity to find other caches opportunistically as we were passing.
It didn't take us too long to collect the required information and calculate the final coordinates. It was then just a short wander over to GZ for a quick find. We were surprised at the number of Germans who had ended up being buried here.
Thank djcache for the cache.

I had two multis on my list to do today, but l will have to leave the other for a day when l can undertake the journey with no pain, and hopefully with dalerious by my side enjoying a re visit to a beautiful area. One sad note for this cache though, the book you mention in your description which should be housed in that beautiful cabinet, is missing. I enjoyed this multi in this well kept cemetery. It was well set out and a pleasure to undertake. I came up trumps with my calculations, put in gz co-ords and found the cache well stocked and safe and sound. Thanks for bringing me here and maintaining this cache.
Found after having my maths double checked for me by dalerious. Had the right numbers but the wrong answers. Thanks for your help.
Nice bit of history. Thanks for the mathematical puzzle. Fun for bit of a Sunday outing. Tftc

This Cache bought us to a cache that left me pondering about war and the effects it had worlwide. Thankyou for bringing us here
Found at 8:23 AM GAFF4/3.
We always like doing DJ's caches - they are informative and always give you something more than just a "box in the bush" type of cache.
It is interesting that the Kormoran sank HMAS Sydney and all 650 odd Australians perished, but HMAS Sydney simultaneously sank the Kormoran and most of their crew were saved and sent off to places like Tatura? From near Carnarvon in WA? wonder what the prisoners thought during that long long trip!
Thanks djcache

I decided that it was time to head to Shep for a few days caching. I was impressed with the quality of the hides in the area. We headed out of town for the afternoon, to explore some of the nearby towns. Some time was spent here gathering the required information, and then we quickly found the cache. Thanks so much for placing this cache djcache I really liked the location of this one.
We are staying at Sheppparton and today we decided that we would head back down the road and pick up a few of the caches that we had driven past two days ago. We had no knowledge of the matters talked about on the cache page and thank you for giving us this knowledge. SL TFTC
I was in the area so gave this one a go. Good to find a good sized container.

Another very interesting multi. I knew nothing of this. What a well-kept cemetery.
Located the information reqd, but had trouble finding the cache. Have I mucked up the maths? Several checks later I had to accept that I was in the correct spot. Reading previous posts gave me a hint and, after checking out the leaf litter more closely, I had it in hand.
Thanks djcache. Another favourite.

After having a great weekend in and around St Arnuad for the weekend of events, I was sad to say goodbye and start to head home. I took the opportunity to meander along the back roads on the way home, grabbing whatever I hadn't found. I made some good clever finds along the way.
This was an interesting story, so thanks for the history lesson. I wandered about and grabbed what was needed to come up with some likely co-ords. I made a quick find once at GZ.
Thanks djcache for placing the cache for us to find and doing the maintenance to keep it in play.

Really enjoyed having a wander around to gather the information needed for the final location. Although the gathering didn’t take long a lot of time was spent trying to locate the cache! Very well hidden! TFTC

After 3 dnfs in a row today it was great to put my name in a log book. Having visited many cemeteries recently, this one is quite different and quite interesting, especially the many names which have initials only. The book is missing from the brass cupboard unfortunately .
Thanks for highlighting this part of the cemetery

On our way home from yet another visit to Shepparton. We are running out of ways to come home that still have caches. This was a quick and easy find in a very interesting cemetery. Took a little while to find the cache as the leaf litter was quite deep. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
Thanks for bringing us here kids enjoyed searching for this one. Picked up a path tag
Four days to spend caching is cool but what was even cooler was that Moneydork and Tounga allowed me to tag along too as they headed for Victoria Sadly, geobrother couldn't make this trip so with just us three the car was much quieter than normal
Day 3 today as we left Shepparton and headed to Wedderburn via the Wool Shop at Bendigo, which we only just got to prior to closing time due to a flat tyre at Toolleen.
Total finds today was 51 and 2 DNFs
I really enjoy learning history from geocaching and this cache sure provided a good history lesson! [^]
We enjoyed walking through the area near GZ and reading the information available there.
The conversation continued in the car for many miles afterwards.....always a sign of an informative and thought provoking cache [^]

Travelling around Australia in our Caravan with our cat.
Making our way south to Melbourne now, it's amazing seeing all the other travellers heading north! Are we heading the wrong way
Moving today but before we could move we decided to do a tour of the surrounding towns and find some caches.
Really enjoyed this cache and were lucky enough that once we returned to collect the caravan TomTom routed us past the mansion aswell. So a superb effort. Fave point.

More multis today to go towards My March Madness Multi-Month Challenge. Now I'm on holidays for Easter and filling up the remainder of the month with Multi's, got my quota but what the heck, a few more won't hurt. In the Nagambie area camping on majors Creek.
Off to Shepparton with MuggleWifeDoes to do the shopping tour of all the factory outlets although this year there doesn't seem to be as many left. Luckily that means we can grab a cache or two on the way
A fitting tribute and resting place to some long departed souls.

Today, we did a loop from Shepparton to Corop, Colbinabbin, Whroo & a few towns in between.
The weather was great - not too hot, and the roads dry and dusty.
We found a good variety of traditional, multi caches and a few puzzles.
Many thanks for placing this cache, djcache, for us and others to find.

I have been busting to do this cache. I grew up in Shepparton and have long known of the "German War Cemetary" out Tatura way but never had cause or oppotunity to visit it. I was pleasantly surprised to see how immaculately well kept it is, though I did notice the brass doors to the cabinet ajar and the sight log missing. The cache itself was clean, dry and bountifull. I made a swap to pick up my first TB and I know of a very comfortable hotel to take it to, one I didn't want to visit empty handed. TFTC. dalerious is one happy geocacher. A favotite from me.
Lest We Forget.

Cannot believe we have not done this cache long before this. Have finally crossed it off the list. TFTC
#6081 We had been in Tatura for an event and were slowly caching our way around Shepparton and the area with friends. We had completed another of these types of caches elsewhere, so were pleased to find another similar multi to be found today. Cemetery caches are ones that we find particularly interesting, especially in the older and well maintained cemeteries. This was both an enjoyable and poignant experience. The cache was found well hidden and in very good condition. Our thanks to djcache for highlighting this history via this cache. Cheers [^]
A great multi easy find of cache. Love the history of this one.

Mrs. Lost Wanderer loves cemetery caches and after attending the event in town, couldn't leave without getting this one. It was a great day to meet the locals and read the headstones of the locals who are no longer with us. Thanks for the hide djcache.
A well put together cache that takes you through a little history. Enjoyed the puzzle element that lead to the final cache
What a beautifully presented and well manicured tribute to the many who, through accident of their birthplace, lost their lives here.
I was very happy Muggle Hubby had decided to come along as my chauffeur today. He also did a very good job of unearthing this cache for me

Driving home from a fishing trip today, dropped in on this one in the hope of finding a trackable - should have read the logs rather than going off the icon on my phone! Great piece of history to have discovered anyway, thanks for sharing this!
Had past by here a long time ago but it was too dark to hunt this one down. Today was beautiful weather and after checking out this very neat memorial cemetery I had the info needed to find the plastic. TNLN Picked up the only TB Thanks for this interesting multi cache.
Yay - found this cache today . What a lovely memorial park for the German Soldiers and Civilians that came to Australia during the two World Wars - yes, it is a very long way from home but it is a very peaceful resting place. Thanks djcache for setting this one up. Today was a really pleasant autumn day to be out caching and visiting this area.
Found with emscapades on her trip down from Qld. After my girly dig in the leaf litter emscapades got in and had a real go and cache was in hand! TFTC!
Found with Team Brooza! First multicache for me, although I arrived late and Team Brooza had already solved the puzzle part. Had to have a good search at the location and only found the log after reading other people's comments for extra hints
Dropped off the Destination: Europe travel bug, hoping some visitors from Germany might drop past and be able to take it home with them!

Looked for an hour in side and out. Only found old fish tin.
Will try again.

Found this on our second attempt, nearly 10 months later! Puzzle was fun and easy enough and our gps was pretty much spot on however the cache was a bit more covered than we anticipated! Great cache nonetheless, tftc
What a sobering area, but how nice that the place is so well looked after loved the history and enjoyed doing this well thought out cache Thanks djcache
Lots of interesting history in the beautifully maintained grounds- au.fait and I followed the experience with a visit to the museum in Tatura. TFTC
micheena - lovely well kept cemetery. Had co-ords worked out, but the search had us baffled. So much litter had fallen and made it hard to find.

I had decided I wanted to visit the SPC factory in Sheparton during my five days holidsys in Nagambie. I mentioned this to Kwokka and my Geo Brother and they were more then happy to tag along. We decided to go Via Tatura and a certain Bakery that has fantastic Vanilla Slice. We also decided to find some Geocaches on the way.
We had done the Italian Version of this cache in Murcherson a year or so ago, so we went for a drive out to do this one too. We were not exactly sure what to look for at first but soon worked it out and quickly gathered the numbers needed for GZ and a short walk later the cache was found.
Thanks to djcache for the cache. TNLN.

The thought of finding 11 specific gravestones on a hot day seemed like a bit of a chore but it turned out to be quite pleasant. Well thought out cache.
What a well kept cemetery. Sad to see all the young men who lost their lives. Tnln tftc!
Found this one while visiting the old hometown with doctor moo. Very interesting history behind this multi. Didn't take long to find and log cache, quiet day with no muggles around. TFTC
great to see this location being cared for so well, a quick check on our maths and the cache in hand
Another well researched cache by DJCache, many thanks Dave for bringing us here. Sad to say that the brass box containing the book is empty - a small frog has taken up residence
This cache was our last for the township of Tatura which has only 4 multi caches and one that appears to be lost in battle, We now move on to the Oz Mega.
