Dead bird on cords, search postponed for now

25-Oct-23
In Sydney for a few days catching up with our son. Having a day off work we decided it was a great opportunity to spend time around here and explore this lovely area.Grabbed the info earlier in the year to solve this on. Happy to make an easy enough find once at GZ today. Thanks for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache.

Started to try and solve this a few years ago but didn't get it solved until this week. Headed to GZ today and with a little reaching and stretching I had the cache in hand. Beautiful location and great day for it. TFTC!

We have arrived in Sydney on a mission to find caches in LGA's we don't have.

We have been expertly advised and guided by wazza9 in completing this task. Today we ticked off 5 and enjoyed the sights along the way. A great location and an interesting place to visit.

Many thanks to all CO's for placing caches and helping us achieve our goals.

Out with wazza9 and Nana Nel. Thanks a very scenic area we signed the log and enjoyed a picnic near by. Fav point

Irol22 and I solved the puzzle over a year ago but couldn’t find the cache. I came back today and after about half an hour of searching I started to rethink hiding places and widen my search area. It’s definitely not where I thought it would be, but I has a lovely little home. So happy to turn this frown upside down. TFTC

A quick find today before we did the bare island fort guided tour. Had solved thanks to some guidance from SeanO. This one is in a nice place but didn’t seem to be in the logical place. Anyway managed to make the find and sign the log just before our tour group had assembled. A very nice day with a breeze. TFTC

On a geocaching expedition today taking the bike all around Botany. Spent a good 15 mins at Gz scratching my head. Then after some deduction and some geoskills I had cache in hand with the broken outer container and the newly replaced inner container, TFTC

ProbablyBex made the find today. We brought a new container which we placed in the broken systema. So good to have help from mates to confirm my coords and give hints on the hide

I am taking a road trip to Sydney to visit my daughter and picking up caches along the way.

Condition Report:. New preform container
Log Status:. Lots of room

Thanks for hiding this cache Philma

On a late afternoon / early evening cache run around La Perouse and Waverly collecting some solved puzzle caches, adventure labs plus some bonus traditional caches along the way. Worked out the puzzle from home, having collected the information needed on a previous visit. Today we all walked to GZ and spied a few good hide locations but nothing found. After about 20 minutes and searching wider we eventually found the cache container. Lid of the container is broken and the contents are wet. After signing the log we replaced as found. Thanks for the cache Philma.

The following TBs came through for the mileage : Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB, teamMerlin's Football

Been sitting coords fir this one for a long time and with a chance that we had some business in the La Perouse area this became one of the ones to try to get. It took the group of us longer than we intended to find this cache

With cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for bringing me to the area and thanks for placing the cache Philma

The following TBs visited for the distance - Hawkesbury Tiger, 2011- 2019 NSW geocoins, Area 51 Tag, Cache In Trash Out Geocoin, Cache In Trash Out Tag, CITO Micro Geocoin, dirty Black Juke, Four Elements Geocoin, Mary Hyde's compass, Optical Illusion Geocoin, Spindoc Bob Memorial Geocoin, Trackable Building Brick, Wales Flag, Wheel of Caching Geocoin

We loved working this one out, and were really excited by the GZ. Unfortunately, after hunting around we’re pretty sure it’s gone, and with logs for the last year or so saying the lid is gone and log is destroyed... it’s a shame, as this would be my favourite cache.

We were out here a coupla months back dropping a family member off to her flight back to CANADA when we came across WP1 and, oh waddya know, it is a mystery cache even. Took it home to work on for next time we are out this way. Hmm... do you mean the "plaque" or the sculpture/ sign? I'm not sure I get how to solve this puzzle without the hint, as the hint seems to contain vital information?? Even then the Eastings clue just did not gel with us at all. But it would seem that the Southings gave us enough of an idea where to look.

Out at GZ-ish today with my eldest son doing some plane spotting and some "urban" caching (the type he likes) and began our search at what soon became apparent as being the wrong side. We tried a few other locations nearby but still came up nuttin, although one of the spots we liked more than the others. A concerted effort in that location finally revealed the hide in a somewhat unexpected spot. Oh dear I'm really sorry to report that both the container and log are in very poor condish. Only just noticing this in the pics now that we are home. Please, any future prospective finders just bring with you one of those smaller flat 250ml Sistemas to replace if/ when you come. We just didn't quite have the right size and type else we would have done for sure. This find was akin to the few archived caches we've found, which is not a bad thing. Just a tough find. TFTC and puzzle, Philma, and thanks for the retro cache. They are a fun and somewhat different challenge sometimes altogether.

DNF at 3:59 PM.
A lovely spot at the given co-ords, which was just as well as we were there for a long time trying to gather the required information. We managed to do the count ok, but then fell in a heap trying to work out the East degrees and minutes. We just couldn't find "one" instance of the correct format - but found what we thought to be the correct format - three times!
Plugged in the co-ords and it looked like a good location - then had it confirmed by a previous finder, but when we got there and started to look - we found nothing.

Muggle city on a Saturday afternoon after taking a photo and printing WP1 many months ago. Always had issues with the Easting numbers and with the few fishermen nearby, made the find to the upside down container with that still allows moisture inside. The view across reminds me of a load of 4legged walkers from Star Wars. Nice puzzle and should be proud of yourself on utilising an item to make it all work out, thanks philma

17-Mar-18
I use a photo I'd taken of the coords some months ago to work out where GZ was located. Today TaurusSix and I were in the area and found this cache. The upside down cache has worked a bit and the improvised log was good enough to sign.

15-Mar-18
I finally got around to completing this neat puzzle having taken a photo at WP1 ages ago. So back to this area and headed to GZ. A nice place I haven't visited since my childhood. Took awhile but eventually uncovered the broken cache. Unfortunately as others have said, the lid has a huge crack and the log sheet is soaked, unable to be written on. I had spare paper but no small sistema. Replaced upside down so at least any rainwater might run out! So if next finder could bring a spare one it will allow this to continue! Great spot for a final location. TFTC

Out today on this windy afternoon with SmudgeyCat around La Perouse. I had first visited the published coordinates last year at this unusual lookout area (a place I had never been to before), and collected the relevant information - what a jumble that is! So today was the day to head off to gz and find the cache. There were quite a few muggles around, but fortunately none right at gz. I walked to what looked like a possible gz spot and saw the cache straight away right at my feet, exposed. As others have noted, the container is broken. The log book was dry (and easy to write on) but had been previously wet, so some pages were stuck together. I placed the container upside down to prevent too much water getting in, and added some better camo on top. Hope it remains. But yes this does need a new cache and log book replacement. Found with SmudgeyCat MM. TFTC Big Grin

Took us a while to work out the coords and even needed some help from a previous finder. Once we were on the right track made a pretty quick find. Must say the container has seen better days. Beautiful location though! Tftc

24-Oct-17
Pacgirl and I flew up to Sydney to visit Snoopy for a few days. The trip included sightseeing, socializing, and just a 'little' caching Wink. Sometimes my geopartners got a little impatient - they're obviously more muggles than they are cachers Big Grin.
Today I headed out on my own with time to tackle some of the more challenging caches. This cache took me quite a while as my co-ords had me a few metres out in the water. I was really keen on finding this one but 45 minutes later still no smilie.
I then read the old logs and kept looking, and five minutes I eventually found it. My co-ords weren't very co-ordinated on this one Smile, but I still managed the smilie in the end.
Thanks for the great cache, Philma.

After a bit of scouting around in the cracks we eventually doubt it. Log is in poor condition and cache was very wet. Probably needs a new container. Great puzzle and beautiful spot. TFTC

Very nice cache. Parked near the Maze cache and enjoyed the walk to the plaque. Solved the clue and we ventured forth to GZ. Took us a while to find the cache, but we were victorious in the end. The container seems intact but was half full of water and the log book is soaked. Might need a replacement container. Thanks for the great spot and fun cache. Another Philma wonder

12-Jun-17
After counting more than 3 times we agreed on the numbers. Some divers around, but overall very quiet morning. TFTC.

01-Feb-17
Log book soaked - needs replacing. Possible crack in the container is allowing the water to get in so a new container would probably help too.

In the area this morning to collect a special TB from the nearby TB hotel and was the perfect excuse to collect some solved puzzles.

The views weren't fantastic on this drizzly morning, but that also meant that it was easy to find a park. Went across, down and under to reach GZ. Hunted around for a little while before resorting to previous logs. Ahhh, a slight adjustment and spotted the tell tale signs of a hide immediately. Unfortunately the container was full of water and log book saturated. No problems writing on this with my felt tip pen, but the log book won't recover from this soaking.

Thanks for an interesting puzzle and bringing me to this beautiful spot.

Having spent the day caching in and around La Perouse, and also having found Maze #2, we headed for this cache. Arrived at the location with a family admiring the views from the platform, but they soon left for us to be alone while counting numbers and letters in different directions.
Once we had double checked our counting, and agreed on the numbers, we did the calculation which pointed us to a place where we had already been earlier in the day.
Parked the car and took the walk to GZ, where we soon could find the cache.
Good quality cache well worth a favourite point from us.

Stopped last week and photographed the required info which I took home. The geo-assistant took over from there because she enjoys the puzzle bit. She showed me the map of where it would be and it looked likely. A sunny day in Sydney and we went back to the area to check her work. Sure enough - it was there and a very quick find although the log was a bit damp. Great view across the water! tftc Philma.

I figured this one out at the end of a recent caching day, only to discover of course that GZ was right near where I had just left. Came back today and the eagle eyes of the darling wife soon meant we had CIH. Now to do a bit of research on this interesting spot!

Another beautiful winters day. Smile Blue skies and sunny. Smile A great day for a ride on the MTB. Smile
I had been to the posted co-ordinates on Saturday and ended up with some likely numbers for GZ. [^]
Like the previous finder I got a little confused with this statement "You will find the East Degrees and Minutes once in the correct format." whereas I could also see this 3 times.... Surprised
So I cycled around to GZ and discovered it is a very busy place. Surprised
So I skipped searching for this one and came back today. Big Grin
After a bit of a search and the useful corrections from another finder (S-0.002 & E+0.005) and I soon found the cache tucked away. [^]
A great puzzle and interesting locations. A Fav pt from me. Smile
Thanks for the cache.

I am always up for a Philma cache! (Except if it involves a 40 metre vertical drop.)
The puzzle was mostly straightforward depending on if you can count without losing track of where you are up to. The slightly confusing statement is "You will find the East Degrees and Minutes once in the correct format." whereas I could see this 3 times....

GZ is fantastic except it makes you wan to explore more and most of it was shut off during my visit. The search was aided by the fact that this has lasted, it certainly wouldn't last if it were overly exposed to the elements. I just thought "Where would I hide it?" and there it was.

Attaching a photo that Google auto-formatted for me.

TFTC Philma, a great new discovery for me.

We needed a cache today, to fill yet another calendar gap, so I decided to have a go at this one on my way to work. We had visited the plaque location a few weeks ago and “coordinated the coordinates” to come up with some likely numbers for GZ.

Being a nice sunny Saturday morning the area around GZ was very busy and I didn’t like my chances of finding a parking spot close to where I needed to be. But I did the loop anyway just hoping for a free spot, or at least someone about to leave. And sure enough I snagged the only vacant spot at the closest point to where I was heading. You’ve got to be lucky sometimes Smile

Set off over the elevated structure, and then down to GZ. There was a couple of spear fisher people close to GZ, but they departed just as I sat down to survey the situation. With the spot now to myself I started the search, checking in all of the likely hidey holes around GZ, but found nothing. So I widened the search and soon stumbled upon the cache container. TNLNSL and then replaced as found.

Coords seemed to be out by about 7 metres, according to my Garmin 62s. Try subtracting 0.002 degrees off the calculated Southing’s and adding 0.005 degrees to the calculated Easting’s.

Thanks Philma for giving me an excuse to visit this beautiful location, and for the cache. And now for one final calculation: Interesting plaque at WP1 + Good Puzzle + Very nice Final GZ location = Favourite Point !

Now it's off for a less fun activity, an afternoon shift at the airport.

Find #906

Finally sat down to solve this cache (after a few years)! Actually, all that counting wasn't really necessary since you only need the latitude to find this one. This cache is best done by bike, by the way.

Not sure why information necessary to find the final coordinates is locked up in the hint instead of included in the description, but that stumped me for a while until I looked at the hint. Another source of confusion was that the hint says "seconds" when it should read "thousandths of a minute" or something.

Took a drive out to the coordinates sign, sat down and solved for the final. Many scuba enthusiasts at the GZ. TFTC

This was an exhausting cache! I was beachcombing and caching down at La Perouse, saw this cache on my radar, and started walking. Being a visitor, I didn't have a car, but I enjoy a good walk. My phone's warped sense of humor often leads me astray, and true to form it did it today. I took one short cut from what it said, wish I'd taken the other as well. I walked to the end of a long road only to be met by a large cyclone fence topped with barbed wire. This was a bit disheartening knowing I had far to backtrack just to do it all again on the correct road. I flagged down a stranger for a ride. Fortunately she obliged! She took me most of the way back, now I could start over. FINALLY I made it to the coordinates to be coordinated, drew it out, took a pic, are a banana, and started the trek to a bus stop so I could go to work, and find the cache another day. Finally I made it to the cache site, and found what appeared to be a log book, but it was a Bible. Then found the log book, then the cache container. I put all back together, and back where I believe it should have been.

Worked out the numbers from home for this one and headed over toGZ on my walking/bus tour of local cahes in the South.

I had packed a picnic lunch and though that the area around GZ would be a good place to enjoy it.

I put down my lunch back and started searching but could find nothing, I headed back to the bag to grab a drink and realised I had laid my lunch on top of the cache!

Signed log and ate my sandwiches - loved this spot!

It must be a couple of years since I first looked at this and worked out the obvious bits by obvious means. Later I did the detailed bits and finished up with 2 solutions, dependent on the meaning of a particular word. Finally got there today as the tourists were taking their sunset happy snaps. A good search around my first solution was disappointing but the second idea soon yielded a nicely-ageing, familiar container. Fascinating spot that we'd visited years past - must return one Sunday. Thanks Philma.

TFTC,
I first printed the information out on the 14.09.2012 and fave visited the site a few times now.
Yesterday we drove by with some muggle friends and stopped yet again. This time we believed we had a part of the solution correct and couldn't get the rest. So again we took a photo and headed home where Nana nel decided to re print the hint and showed me that I had transposed it incorrectly.
Using the correct concept she had a suitable solution in a matter of seconds.
Today, we were out doing a couple of maintenance jobs on our caches and decided to continue the drive to GZ. It was Nana nel who came up with the container 8M from GZ.
Thanks for setting this up Philma, visited trackables gathering for a trip to the Mega and giving a Favorite.

We had been to way point 1, a couple of times always leave very confused, yesterday when we got home I downloaded the photo and carefully evaluated everything I could and even printed out a paper version of the cache. Not long later asked Wazza9 to check out where these co-ord's were and bingo it was on land (not the water). So off today to see if it was correct, not at calculated co-ord's but I soon located the container. Would not have liked to look for it in dark. Got our feet wet getting back. Thanks for the experience Philma it could be the 1st multi I have worked out.

On New Year's Eve I rode out to the end of the point to get the full picture of the plaque and managed to get a field answer, which matched KRS's very clear clues as to the actual location of the cache. I'd also wondered why there were no caches at that place. The only uncertainty was with the final digit of the easting, as I wasn't sure whether the clue meant that the number was lying horizontally or read horizontally. In any case, this uncertainty gave two answers pretty close together that could readily be searched in the one visit, with one looking more likely than the other on Google Maps.

Today, I rode down after work after finding "Heffron park by the numbers" and started the search. The eager anticipation of a quick find gradually evolved into a dogged awareness that this was becoming a tough struggle and then passed further to a grim realisation that I'd been there a long time and that I wasn't on a winner today. I, too, found the rock feature of Everlasting's log, but this find didn't help me. A group of people fishing nearby were starting to give me strange looks, so I packed it in and departed. At home, I checked my counts again and remain convinced that I was at the right place.

Now, do I wait for the reassurance of another cacher logging this find, or do I worry that my DNF will put off other searchers until I go back and make the find? Definitely a First World Problem! As MacArthur said...

After spending Christmas with the family, we decided it might be a nice idea to come to the area near this cache to find this one as it seems to be a well loved one. After collecting the info for GZ, we went off to where we had planned to go for a picnic. Took the opportunity to then find the cache. After a short search, the cache was discovered. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC Philma!

9/12/14. 1:24 PM. Cache #2061. Streak Day #170. Yesterday, while caching in the area (after finding "The Maze #2"), I came to the published coordinates to have a look at the plaque. Talk about Mission Impossible! I tried to solve it in the field, but ended up with a GZ in the middle of the water, so I took a photo of the full plaque and called it a day.

This morning before I set off for more caching, I revisited the plaque numbers from my photo and came up with a set of co-ordinates that looked plausible. Past logs seemed to indicate this location, too. Hmmm, I always wondered why there was "no" cache at that location...it's because there is one! I set off and parked nearby. Now because there was no checker, I had to trust that I had it right. You could say that it was my Mission Impossible II...

I "crossed over", descended, and made my way to some rocks, just past a whole lot of unattended scuba gear. I spent ages looking in a whole lot of likely spots, but I was getting nowhere. Rock shapes in Everlasting's log confirmed that I was very close, so I just had to look a little bit further. In the end, I found it 8m NE of the co-ords that I had calculated (in other words -.003 south and +.003 east). So I had been pretty close. I had to let some water out of the container, but the log was nice and dry in its bag. I signed and took a GC to move along. Stopped at La Perouse for some lunch and then headed on for a second attempt at "Dead Man's Gulch". TFTC }:)

Took a shortcut on this one and did the preparatory search from home. Today we visited the location where we were years ago for a non-caching inspection.

We walked to the GZ area and GPS'r took us straight to the cache. As there were some fishermen around we sat down and retrieved/replaced the cache when we were sure no-one was looking at our direction.

Thanks Philma for another picturesque caching experience!

Solved this from a distance back home in NZ before coming to my parents in Sydney for Christmas. I was aware of the location through a thing so was keen to get this cache. My brother and his wife needed to be picked up from the airport so convinced Dad to take the long way there in order to swing by and it first.

Plenty of muggles about the area but luckily few about GZ. It took a bit of searching but luckily wasn't hidden where some sizeable crabs (at least to me!) were lurking. After about 10 minutes or so my Dad had spotted it, the log was signed, and it was off to the airport (and the crazy Christmas traffic queues).

Thanks!

The wind-chill factor was so great when we visited the 'sculpture by the sea' we decided to snap a few pics and solve the puzzle in the comfort of our own office.
First attempt to GZ was confused by what we understood as horizontal and vertical. 'Tilting' our definition produced the coordinates that was spot on the cache.

This has been on our to-do list for a long time. We had calculated (and lost) the GZ coodinates a few times, visited the final location last Sunday and came up empty handed. Thanks Philma for yet another memorable cache.

We coordinated the coordinates, we did the maths, we drove close to GZ and managed to find a legal car park, we walked to the cache location, we searched, we searched some more and finally we recorded a DNF.

KNowing how sneaky Philma is with his hides we obviously overlooked something - we can feel a hint coming on!

Another one of those really enjoyable DNFs that you just WISH you could give a favourite to! An awesome puzzle location; while we were counting the muggles nearby were doing the usual stares... Big Grin we think we got the right coordinates, or at least similar to the right ones. We drove down to the cache location. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while after seeing it on the map but never got the chance. Thanks for bringing me here! It's even awesomer than I imagined! found a "admit one" adult ticket to get in while at GZ! We searched for a while before deciding to head off. This one hasn't been found since November though! I'll email the CO to see if we got the right GZ and to get a hint. Thanks again for a great adventure, it was worth it even just for the DNF.

Found this afternoon just before the rain set in, gz was littered with broken bottles and needles so after a quick phone call to calypso62 to check I was in the right area I soon located the container:)

Solved the puzzle a couple of days ago. The cache is more or less on route of my usual evening walk/running track. I enjoyed sunset at GZ. Took 2 TB's. TFTC

This was one of those caches that had baffled me for quite some time. Eventually I got it solved and at a likely spot.

Today I was able to head to GZ where upon my initial search it seem my coords may have been out and with increasing waves I beat a hasty retreat.
Back a few hours later and the tide was inmy favour but still I couldnt find the cache. Eventually after expanding my search the cache was in hand. It appears one of my numbers were out out.
Thanks Philma for the cache.

spent a lot of time on this one, totally confused by the clues, went home, had lunch and nutted it out. Went back just before sunset and found it after about 30 minutes. A fantastic spot to watch the sunset, thanks Philma!

Once again the flatmate took this one home to work out - I was impressed by his persistence. Came back and found it later that evening. Smile

A very interesting puzzle for sure. I loved the plaque, and enjoyed solving the puzzle. Checking on the coords showed that GZ was in a most interesting location. I ventured here before dawn, which is my usual caching time (on the way to work) and found the cache high and dry. Thanks Philma, enjoyed the puzzle and the location. Left a silver star for the next cacher that ventures this way.

Two months ago I ventured out to La Perouse for work and took the opportunity at that time to visit the plaque's location. I took a photo of it so I could work out the puzzle. I emailed Philma my solution only to find I was one digit out on my calculations. Checking my work I realised I had not counted one component. Thanks to Philma, who set me straight, I soon had the required co-ordinates which would take me to a very interesting location. It was now time to wait..... wait..... wait until again my work would take me back to La Perouse. Today was that day!! My GPSr had me heading in the right direction and after crossing over (no, I didn't die) I was soon at GZ and had the cache in my hot little hand. There were a few muggles about but none were interested in me and I soon had the logbook signed and cache returned. This was a very satisfying find that's taken quite a while to complete. Well done Philma, I like puzzle caches. Big Grin

Well this was a funny cache. I was in the area to play golf so I scoped out some local caches to find on the way home. I instantly recognised the sculpture as it forms part of a local puzzle cache. And man I looked at that puzzle alot. So I had an image of the whole sculpture without having to visit the WP. I didn't quite solve the whole puzzle but narrowed it down to 2 spots. So after I finished playing golf and as the sun was setting I arrived at GZ. My first spot didn't look too promising so I moved onto the second spot. Lots of options here. Plenty of muggles too but I just merged into the throng of fishermen, families and kids. So a bit of searching and the caching gods smiled on me and the cache appeared. Could of taken awhile too. It was a lovely spot to sign the log, grab the coin and left my pathtag for the next finder. Great GZ. I have wanted to come here for more than 20 years. Thanks for finally giving me a chance to come here. This cache has a got a favourite point from me.

Report: Take two! Back in July I visited and Solved the puzzle without too much ado (being very careful to count properly!) but ultimately could only half search GZ due to muggles (well that's my excuse and Im sticking to it!) I was given a nudge by Everlasting when I went caching with her the other month as to where I went wrong in my initial hunt and it seems I was over complicating things Very Happy Today was a windy overcast Monday morning and only one fisherman nearby to keep me company but he was totally uninterested in my activity. Had the cache after a few minutes this time and very relieved to knock it off the list! Great GZ and not too stressful a puzzle. Left a Geocoin for the next person . Cheers Phil!
