Hi all,
I called into this cache site a couple of days ago. The area has been devastated by an act that I can only put down to fanatical bastardry. The fruit trees have been destroyed, and this little eden has been wiped out.
There is no longer a good reason to call into the site, and as Bubbles & Squeak have not been maintaining the cache, I feel that it should be archived.
It is a very sad case.

I had read DanielC log entry and had noted his co-ordinates.
When I arrived at the GZ it appeared a number of large trees had recently been felled and had been just left...everywhere.
I had a brief look for the cache, but without success.

The log comes a little late - almost forgot this one.
During a very hot day on our journey from Mossman
towards Mareeba and the Atherton table-lands, we
thought a lunch would be needed. In the heat of the
Queensland winter - at noon - we headed from the
parking coordinates (copied minutely) towards the
cache. After 150m our chosen path disappears and we
continue for another 350m through the outback bushes ...
about 100m from the cache - on the wrong side of
the creek/water we give up and continue our traveling.
Several days later - on google-maps satellite view, one
can see a (presumably) much better path through the
bush ... a few meters from our parking spot ...
much too late for us since we were by then already
too far away to return.

Should have read DanielC' s log for new co-ords.Will go back when it's not so wet and spend more time in this nice area.
After recieving a note from DanielC we realize the cache may well still be there but at a slightly different co-ord - please read his log for correct location. Maybe we will be able to try again tomorrow before we recommence our travels.
We drove in today to search for this cache but are disappointed to say that it appears to be missing. We located a stump which had previously had rocks in it now the rocks are spread around the outside and a prickly pear or rather the dead remains of one which had probably been poisoned. Nevertheless it is still a very interesting area to visit I would love to know how the old structures came to be there.
We also note that one the track in there is now a sign saying that permission must be sort to enter the area from the Australian Wildlife Conservation group.

I managed to park at the track leading from the Highway and walked straight to the site. The GPS went a little haywire in the trees, so I paced out the distance and ended up only a couple of metres from GZ. Great location, I enjoyed the walk (just be ready to get your feet wet).

Found this one quite quickly after a short walk along the creek. March flies got stuck into Mr Camel, but not Mrs Camel who was smart enough to apply repellent. Signed log and left log book in a zip-lock bag. Also left a few swaps in the new cache container. We walked back out on a different track which proved to be a quite usable road all the way to the highway - this one is approx two hundred meters past the publiched entrance point and you can drive nearly all the way to the cache. Very interesting spot, and we are told it was a self-sufficient commune that failed. TFTC.
Found the new cache on the way back to the bike... after finding the original cache gone... Was in a massive rush and hadn't read previous log with updated co-ords.... and so the new container still remains empty except log book.
Hi all,
I visited the site of this cache today. As noted in previous logs the stump has largely been destroyed and there is no cache there. I dug around in the car and came up with a fruit container and log book but nothing else - not even a pencil. As the stump is no longer a viable site for a cache, I hid them in rocks a few metres down along the log at S16 38.290' E145 14.630' I have sent a message to Bubbles & Squeak to this effect. If they wish to reinstate the cache themselves, I'll remove mine at my next visit. At least now there is a book to sign in the meantime, but you'll need to take your own pencil or pen to do so, and if anyone has a spare cache note and a trinket or two it will no doubt be appreciated by our fellow cachers. By the way, on seeing the sign on my last visit, I rang the number given and was told that the owners of the area had no problem with day visitors, but if one was going to camp they wanted to know who and when.
Cheers,
Dan

If I had read the logs I would not have spent 30 minutes or so looking around this area like a mad man. I could have been cooling my feet off in the nearby stream. saying that it is a quaint area and its a shame the cache has not been updated / upgraded.
As the previous 'finder' also came to the same conclusion I feel we could also log this cache as found even though it is no longer there. The small prickly pear beside the stump of the tree has been buried & died, though there is nothing in the the tree hollow where we think the cache was meant to be. Fortunately we hadn't read previous logs before we went looking - otherwise we probably wouldn't have seen another natural treasure. Thanks for the opportunity.
CACHE IS GONE .. SEE ATTACHED PHOTO. However I am logging this one as a find due to the fact that I have seen the photo from searchwise015 from 28 Sept 2008 and you can see from my photo that the log has been destroyed during the wet season. I will email cache owner to have it archived till it is replaced. T4TC.
Stopped here to drop off a bug yesterday. looks like the cache has been removed by flood water.
On our way back from Lakefield NP enjoying bird watching I just looked for this very enchanting spot. To many broken glass pieces around though.

Finaly we can cross this one off the list. No chance of pickling my pears, so included a spoiler pic. TFTC TNLN SL.
Did not have any BBQ utensils or anything, but was a nice detour for lunch before heading back to Mareeba. TFTC
Almost shot past the turnoff - there is nothing on the road to indicate that this extensive site exists. Could have almost done a DIDO but took a wrong turn so walked further than I had to. Place was deserted. What a remarkable site! Perhaps busier after the rains?

Found at 1400 on our way back from a 3 week Cape trip. Directions were spot on and we located cache without difficulty. Would have liked to linger but there were scrub fires in the vicinity and we didn't fancy getting caught.

Uncanny how you visit a cache in a secluded location, only to be sprung by other cachers. Great to see families involved though. The cache and contents were safe and sound. Thanks for taking me to such an interesting area. TFTC TNLN
Trying to bag a few caches on the way back from Cooktown, and we invested the time to walk in from the road to this one only to find a family camped here with half a dozen kids and VERY large dog (tied up fortunately or we would not be here to tell the tale!) Parents were within a few metres of the cache - we could see the location, but they wanted to chat about other great swimming holes. We pretended to be interested when all we wanted was the cache! Oh well...
Have travelled past this spot many times over the years with work & never knew this place was here. Will be stopping here more often in the future.

Danielc and Val found this one on a lovely winter’s day. Starting to get a bit on the warm side however. Has anyone else tried putting in the Trailhead co-ordinates? I think the longitude minutes should read 14. 422 rather than 24.422 as my GPS put that as 17 odd kilometres away. Anyway we had a good direction to the cache and set off with high hopes. We were puzzled by the evidence of occupation and quite astonished when we reached the cache site. We quickly found the cache which for once was not the object of main interest. We wandered through the orchard and found fruit trees we haven’t seen before. I shall certainly go back in lychee and mango season. I can just picture myself sitting up to my waist in the pool eating mangoes - it takes me back to my childhood days. According to the logs many, as we did, wondered what the history of the place was. We were lucky on getting back to the car, to see another car drive in. We got to talking to the occupant and asked if he knew of the history. He told us that there had been a hippy commune there from the 60s to sometime in the late 90s when the Brooklyn Station became a nature reserve. Then the occupants were evicted. He showed us the remnants of a garden system where pineapples still grew, and told how the water from the stream had been diverted to provide irrigation for the gardens and the trees. He also said that there been a mains road camp there while the road was being built. Oh! Getting back to the cache - we swapped a toy car for a packet of sea shells.
Cheers, and Good Hunting. Dan

I used the wrong trail as the child way point is nowhere near this cache. However after a plaesent walk along the creek I found this fantastic old area with all sorts of stuff to examine and a cache as well. Thanks.

A beaut little camp spot indeed. With out big caravan we chose to park on the side of the road on some disused bitumen. Enjoyed the location. TNLN. thanks Bubbles & Squeak
Found in glorious weather. Good excuse to drive out to this "off to the side" NQ location. Glorious spot. Ditto about wanting to know the history of this place. Eye balled by hippy campers as we parked, but otherwise muggleless. Thanxxxxx
What a great spot. This would have to be one of my favorite caches not just the location but we found another track which comes in from the highway and was a great walk.

We love this spot! Really think you should post some history of the place (or add it in the logbook) as it must have an interesting past. Had a nice picnic lunch back at the car after the find. Found by the entire geofamily today- even geoteen left his PSP for long enough to have a look!

Would love to camp at this spot for a while. Will have to find out the history of the place, surely there is a story to tell. Geograndkids had a great swim in the creek, and we enjoyed smoko among the ruins and old orchard. Thanks for a great place to have a cache. Took the iron on happy badge and left the happy as I get button.
Great cache. Absolutely gorgeous spot and great hiding place. Had a swim and ate a mango. Like TFN we are also curious about the history of the place. One of our favourite spots that we have discovered geocaching, so it was appropriate that it was our 100th find. Yarrum junior actually located the cache first, and he and his older brother filled in the log and made the trade. We took the bubble soap and left four soldiers. TFTC.
What an amazing spot!! Easy to find the cache after wandering through the surreal landscape.
Took car, left penguin. Thanks for sharing this amazing spot - would love to know a bit more about the history of the site.
