I came here this afternoon with [@coybear2000](https://coord.info/PR9547H) to do this earth cache. I don't think I have been here at the disused quarry, and if I had been here before I didn't know about its previous use. There were a few small yachts on the water. We then walked up to the 2nd waypoint and it took a short while before we found the rocks with the veins. Nearby there was a bulbine lily in flower, with a native bee in attendance. TFTEC.
Came down to the lake first thing in the morning; after walking through the Westlake "ghost town" and seeing several Kangaroos I came down to the water to get this cache. There were quite a few ant hills in the area so I was careful where I stepped but still got to admire the local rocks! The water on the lake was super smooth so it was a really pretty morning with all the reflections - TFTC!

Answer sent via the message centre, photo attached to the log.The number of people in my group: 2A huge thank you to the cache owner for creating and maintaining a wonderful cache. EP79 and I have embarked on a three-month long geocaching trip across the globe, and we are both grateful and thrilled to discover new places and new friends. The first part of our trip is dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. Today was our last geocaching day in Canberra. We opted to find some caches on our own just to slow down a little bit, but we couldn't have left some coveted oldies behind. Inspired by the Canberra First Tour organized by the GeoBash Mega committee, we explored the beautiful country side around the capital city and enjoyed amazing wildlife, while picking caches along the way.Sorry for logging with a delay. The trip was really busy, but at least I get to revisit these caches again and enjoy great memories. Many thanks for the invite to a beautiful place and for a wonderful geocaching adventure. Greetings from Prague, the Czech Republic, Europe.
Thank you for the cache!Ironford and I came to Canberra for the MEGA event and other geocaching tours and events alongside it. It was an amazing week, and I enjoyed my time here very much. Today was our final full day in Canberra (driving to Sydney the next morning), so we made plans to get some awesome geo-highlights to mark the occasion. We spent some time in the centre, we did a bit of hiking in the bush (sooooo many kangaroos, and how they judge you, just quietly staring! ), and we went to Lake Burley Griffin at sunset and the light was just stunning.Greetings from Prague, Czech RepublicThis was a lovely, quiet, peaceful spot with beautiful views. Really glad to discover it through geocaching.
A very interesting and pleasant area, a quiet morning by the lake for two members of our team.Answers sent to CO.Thanks for the earthcache geoaware.
Found during the Mega event in Canberra over the Easter long weekend. Our team comprised courtneyrose_, Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, Freddo, gridge98 and Team Waldron, signing the logs as ABP to save time and space in the logbooks , or with our individual caching names. Enjoyed a great weekend away finding a rewarding range of cache types, d/t combinations, cache hides and retrievals. Thanks for the earthcache geoaware!
A nice quarry hereHeaded over to the Capital GeoBash in Canberra, ACT with Freddo over 5 days, travelling through the central part of NSW before caching around the hinterlands. A nice few days over with great weather. Thanks for the cache
Found this during a fantastic weekend away at the Canberra Mega, with gridge98, Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite. The log books were either signed with the name ABP or our individual caching names. Was an excellent Mega, grateful to be part of it!

I completed this earthcache while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter.Today I teamed up with FeatherWaite, Team Waldron, gridge98, CourtneyRose, Freddo, E_Smiley, georode and Davidwazza. Logs were signed ABP to save time and space on the logsheets. It was a productive day, focusing mainly on caches of interest, with a variety of cache types. The weather was fine and quite warm, in contrast to some of the other times Ive been in Canberra over Easter. There was quite a bit of vegetation, mainly grasses, covering the area around the waypoint, which it difficult to spot the exposed rock. However we found a couple of small outcrops showing the veins and were able to send off the answers and get quick confirmation from the CO.Thanks geoaware for an interesting earthcache.
A quarry? Bricks? Bring it on. It was interesting to see where the clay came from for Canberra buildings and how its similar/different to other brick making sites.
Answers have been emailed to the CO and nothing has been replied to since Jan 2024.Awesome view and an interesting story.TFTE

Answers have been emailed to the CO and approved. Some mediocre photos at the earthcache site are attached. A fun earthcache that combines some history with it. Very impressive sandstone and quartz feature here. Some nice nighttime bird calls too. Thanks for highlighting the features of this area and its significance in Canberras story. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. In the second phase for the day we had a scootering session lined up which involve plenty of scootering over grass, dirt and rocks. Thankfully no injuries to report.
Not sure if that’s all allowed behaviours but we had a blast!

Ducked out on my lunch break to check out this earth cache…this is potentially my favourite stretch of the entire lake! The sun js always shimmering off the water from this vantage point.
This really is a very interesting rock formation and a brilliant geological history of the area. I knew this would be a goodie once I saw this was the same CO who gave us the OG earth cache down at South Durras.
Answer submitted and here’s another horrific selfie of me at the site thanks!

#3626 Although I have been past this area many times over the years it was good to finally head down to GZ to look at the old quarry. With DeadThief and Indi the Geo-hound we scoured and came up with our hopefully suitable answer. Thanks geoaware for preparing this EarthCache.
After some hard work in the last couple of weeks I rewarded myself with an extra day of caching. As I was in Canberra anyway I worked on my d/t grid and did a lot of adventure labs. Good fun and great weather my team consists out of one, just me. Thanks for the earth cache

Nice to learn about some of the geology of the area, although I have to confess that my ability to retain information about rocks is incredibly limited.

Hi thanks for bringing us here. We aren't Kens but plan to retire here in a few years. Herself (who isn't able to get back home for a while as our borders are snapped shut) is a history buff so was particularly interested in seeing the quarry. Due to lockdown there were only the two of us doing this cache today. Answers have been sent to CO.

With the Canberra lockdown, I’m trying to only find non physical geocaches. I’ve found a heap of Adventure Labs, and a few earth caches so far. My partner and I decided to go for a bike ride together today, and I led us from Kingston to this cache. A great location, at both the bottom of the quarry at GZ and a beautiful view at the second location with the answer. Took a bit of searching to gather the information, but found a good answer to send to the CO. Thanks for the cache Geo Aware!
Walked along the lakeside here to find this cache. Lovely breeze coming off the water. Ventured up the hill to collect the required info. Answer has been sent to CO.

Out again on the geocycle today. Should hit a milestone find as well as signing a few challenges and attending my first ACT event. A few more caches on the "to do" list and a couple of ALs to finish too.
This one was not too far off the loop around the lake, so I went for a visit.
Thanks for showing me more rocks. Love em.

We are in the ACT for a few days - ex Sydney. And it's been mostly pretty nice weather for this time of the year. (I lived in Canberra for many years!)
The sun was shining today and I decided to have a long walk by the lake. And in celebration of this short time 'off the grid', I thought it would be great to hunt a few geocaches.
Attunga Quarry is particularly special. I love Earthcaches, and this is, for me, Earthcache NUMBER 100 !!!!!
Thank you geoaware for bringing me here. The rocks are very interesting - there's still plenty of shale about.
I attach a photo... and will send my answers shortly.

Chocolistick03 and I visited this spot nice and early. We arrived and walked to the spot and then waited for the sun to rise so that we could explore the area properly. Thanks for the cache and the history lesson.
Found looking for an Earthcache to do after work. It was a lovely arvo with a nice breeze blowing. The lake was pretty flat but did see a big fish jump. Interesting area here and I was quite unaware of it till doing this cache. THanks for getting me out and about Geoaware. Answer has been sent.

Really nice spot. I'm here with nooty at the yacht club and let's get a geocache.
I walked down and looked at the features while reading the background. Very interesting. Must’ve made a lot of bricks. Then clambered up the hill in my work shoes. Thanks for bringing me here it’s a very relaxing spot after a long Friday at work. I walked up the hill - just me today - and then wandered around looking for the specific feature. Which was soon found. What mighty forces the Earth can bring to bear. Thanks for the earthcache. Answers sent to CO.

Canberra Day 1: In my quest to complete all the Australian states, it would be remiss if I didn’t visit the fine city of Canberra. So, in the first leg of my journey through Australia, I made my way to Canberra by bus from Sydney. Flew into SYD this morning, before catching a Greyhound to the ACT. Picked up a fair number of caches today, a feat considering most of it was spent travelling between cities, but a good start to the adventure to come.
This is the specific log for this cache:
This is a nice and quite scenic spot. I actually came from above and heading down to the lower coordinates, only to be told to go up again... well, I suppose I needed to do that at some point anyway. I have not seen quartz veins in sandstone before, which means these guys have been down pretty deep. Answers have been sent. TFTEC!

We went back to the lake today, this time I actually remembered to bring my phone, which made it a lot easier to find caches
We followed the path along the shore, with the Bricks for the Capital Earthcache as the main game, given that it's earthcache day, but we picked up a few extras along the way.
We admired the quarry, reminisced about the history, and enjoyed the views - then moved up the hill to the WP where we searched and found some quartz veins - I hope they were the right ones
The questions were answered, and messaged to the owner.
Happy Earthcache day everyone

Having travelled all the way from Brisbane to attend the Mega event over the Easter long weekend, I was out and about from just after sun up with the aim of collecting as many caches as possible on my lengthy wish list. This was one of the caches on the agenda for today, as I love to learn new things from the earth caches I visit.
Rain had been forecast for today (in fact I had packed up my campsite a couple of days early to avoid having to transport wet camping equipment), and the rain clouds that had been brewing in the distance finally moved in overhead. As I reached GZ a gentle rain began to fall, all the while the sun was still shining. Fortunately it didn't get too heavy and I was able to collect the required information without being drenched. Out and about with a few caching buddies during the Mega. We found a number of caches today of varying D/Ts and desirability. My apologies for the generic log but I'm logging these over two weeks later and unless something sticks out I have somewhat hazy memories of these finds. Next time, I'll do what a fellow Victorian does and take multiple photos of the site such that it jogs the memory bank.

I am traveling on my own and attending the Mega event in Queenbeyan. I have a list of caches that I want to find whilst I am on this trip and this one is near the top of that list. After finding the nearby multicache, I decided to do this earthcache. I found the waypoints very interesting. At the final waypoint, I looked around for a while to gather the required information to send to the CO later. This is such a lovely spot, I decided to take a stroll and find a couple more caches before moving on to the next caches on my list. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC
It was an incredibly hot day and we planned to go to this earth cache. Waiting, waiting till it got cooler however it was getting darker. A mean looking storm was approaching. The thought of having the prepared picnic dinner at home was not an option. The journey to GZ was more time consuming than we realised. Eventually with persistence we ticked all boxes. Thanks for bringing us here. Will return in less of a rush. Here comes the rain. Off we rush again.
Arrived the night before for a road trip with my muggle friend from Canberra to Brisbane with a stop to walk the 5night/4day Green Gully Track. I was in the city today before work and contemplated which cache I could do with the spare time up my sleeve before I had to head back. I decided to come down and find this Earthcache as I need a few more for a statistic on Project GC!
I managed to park pretty close and headed along the track towards the listed coords. I soon realised that I had to be up a little higher at the waypoint in the description so made a slightly tricky ascent and after a quick search found a vein to measure.

I think GZ may have become a lot more overgrown since this cache was placed, walking from the marked coords to the WP1 listed was not simple... I cant believe that there are blackberries everywhere, even here. Anyway, managed to get close to the listed WP1 and this was up some shale which made for a very tricky decent, especially with all the prickles everywhere. I went by myself on a lunchtime caching run to the south side of the lake. Me at WP1 attached
After lunch, micaparamedic asked if I would like to drive through parts of Canberra to see important buildings. We would see towers, fountains, old buildings, new buildings and a few memorials.
He had told me earlier that we wouldn't be able to go to Attunga Quarry earthcache due to a flower show and the added traffic, making it difficult to park. When he pulled into a parking spot on the way to the capitol buildings area, I looked at his spare GPS (which I was using) and saw that we were right beside a multi-cache. As I went to start it, he suggested taking a little walk first.
Yes, the little walk was to this earthcache. I had only looked at the "nearest" cache and his GPS works differently than mine. My learning curve on his GPS was going up over time, yet I was longing for mine which I can proficiently. However, my doesn't have enough memory for all the caches we wanted loaded "just in case" we got to them, so it was left at home.
We had a great walk to explore the area and get the answer to the earthcache question. On the way back down, I ran over to the quarry face to get a few photos and when I got back to the car, we decided to do the multi-cache that started at the art piece. Why not? It was there and so were we.
We completed that one - another story - and headed off for the driving tour of Canberra.
Thanks to micaparamedic for surprising me with this third cache by the CO, and thanks to the CO for placing the earthcache here.

Friday 4 August 2017 - an overcast cold windy Winter's afternoon making it miserable to be exposed to the elements at this point while overlooking the lake. Have been here many times walking around the water's edge and only today finally came back to complete just this one EarthCache while on this side of town. Took a little while to locate the vines of quartz as it appears that grass may have covered much of the previously exposed rock. Thx MuggleHusband. TFTEC geoaware.

Together with Team "GER-17" (consisting of murri24, der Eifelaner & dieFraudiemitmuss and me) I was able to find this Cache today while travelling with our rental car from Cooma to Canberra and later that day further on to Batemans Bay.
The answers for this Cache were already sent by der Eifelaner and are hopefully ok.
Thanks a lot for this Cache!

DieFraudiemitmuss, Lundi263, Murri24 and I made this year a very great tour together. Our first target is Melbourne. So we started early in the morning to visit the city and to make a few geocaches. We found very nice locations and interesting spots. One day we rent a car. Very early in the morning we drive from Melbourne City over Geelong to the Great Ocean Road. Along this road we found so much interesting spots, we see a great landscape, and had have not enough time for sightseeing. The weather was fine but a little bit windy. This day was very long and hard, but wonderful.
After that we visit the Grampians. A little bit rain, a little bit windy and a little bit sunny day, we had fasten all weathers. We visit waterfalls, canyons, sandstone fomations and any Look Outs. Puhhh, what a great landscape.
The next part of our journey is to explore the Outback. From Ayers Rock we take a car and drive over Kings Canyon and many other Look Outs to Alice Springs. We visit any very interesting Caches and had a great time by comfortable temperature.
Now we drive from Melbourne in direction of Canberra, Blue Mountains and Sydney. We want to see so much as possible of this part of Australia. Today we started in Cooma. We visit Canberra, have seen some official spots an make a few Caches. Once more we find a great location.
This Cache was one of my favorite Caches, wich I would visit in Australia. Thank you very much for showing. This theme was very interesting. I have learned a lot over the australian geology.

I must admit that geology is not my strong suit especially when there are subjective aspects to it. This is why I love ECs as they are a fantastic opportunity to develop this knowledge and it is doubly interesting when the is local history associated.

#1208. I approached the site from the east (Yacht Club) and encountered a friendly goanna along the footpath along the shore, just before reaching the starting point. Took out the bearing and climbed upwards in the scorching mid day sun. I reached the set coordinates on top of the hill and searched for the quartz veins. Took some measurements and sent answer to the CO. Thanks for showing this site relating to both geology and to Canberra history.
Swung by this one whilst in the area after attending an event at Weston Park.
Wandered along from the car then checked out the quarry before making my way up to WP2 to do the up close examinations Found what I was looking for and took a couple of pics before heading back to the car-a FREEZING cold wind had whipped up and I was nearly turning to ice, so I legged it back to the car to warm up!

It's a lovely day. This is my 3000th cache, picked because I love earthcaches. I've emailed my answers and am awaiting confirmation. I had a really good wander around here, looking at the quarry, the geology and the views. Took a photo which I'll post when I unload it from the phone. Thanks for the cache, the walk and the views.
