:-/ don’t know if it’s because it’s been 5 years, or if we just can’t see for looking!
Edit to last DNF: sorry 4 years. Currently staying at Pineapple Flat. Hiding away from the current Corona Virus.
G'day from the qld boys. Third day into our trip and enjoying the sights burnt top track has to offer. Now it's time to hit the road
Pleased to report this cache is in great condition, having been unfound for over a year. We went up the 'hard' way, driving up from our campsite at Pineapple Flat on the King River. Some of the steep sections gave the Prado a good workout in its low range, and geo-wife went all quiet and white knuckled, but the car ate it up and we made it safely! The views at GZ were so spectacular we decided to have lunch on the nearby saddle, with the steep drop offs on each side. I think the nerves needed calming after driving along the saddle - a three-star terrain rating seems a little low! Anyway we continued on our merry way north and eventually to Whitfield; the road was still bumpy and rocky but considerably less scary! Favourite point for the scenery and the sheer remoteness of the cache! TFTC
Well what a fun climb in the 4wd this was, I was happy to find this one given its been a while since it was last found, happy to report the cache is fine and well, dry and safely tucked away back in its hidey spot.
Thanks for the adventure!
Thanks for the adventure!
I parked in the pararell parking bay being careful not to cross over the imaginary white line (I fear the penalties are too great) and had a nice stroll to the cache while taking in the views.

Found on a trip through to Pineapple Flat. Hope they are ripe.
Came in from Paradise Falls, north end. Tracks recently graded and OK. Seems I am following that MAC 4X4 again but along way behind this time. TFTC, all OK.

Found on the drive home from Craigs hut "the long way". Fogged in at this point in the track but we still stopped and took photos.of the razerback with our cars on the top. Signed log and off home.
Great day. Tom rode up from Razor Back hut with a group 6. At the final leg leading up to Craig's Hut the horse stumbled. To Toms credit, he held on. Meet up with Detective Spiderman, Spiderman2604 & Bob the Builder. Beautiful part of the world. Nice to spend Easter in this part of the world. TFTC
A 4x4 & Walking Solo Adventure - Day 3 of 5 - Cache 8 of 13
Ah yes. A trademark Derringer cache: Brilliant views in sometimes quite exposed locations.
After traversing the western side of Lake William Hovell I headed back up to the Wabonga Plateau via Sandy Flat track and then onto Burnt Top track by way of Stockman track. "Burnt Top" is certainly a fitting description, both for the area and the cache itself. I was good to look at the views on both sides of the ridge - where I had come from and where I was about to head for.
Bagged the cache, made my mark and headed off to my next campsite.

(Next . . . Pineapple flat and then "Celluloid Diversion/360 Degrees/Hydrophobic Dwelling".)

Found on day trip to Craigs Hut with Skull Racing Team. Cold, raining and almost zero visibility conditions made for good 4wding in to cache but only had fantastic views of the inside of the clouds. Want to do this track again when visibility extends beyond 50 feet. Nice easy find despite cloud and rain playing havoc with 2 GPSs.

Found on day trip with the Skull Racing Team, Very wet but nice drive through the clouds. Using 2 Gps's and the low cloud cover was playing around with the gps.
Aparently nice views but due to cloud cover couldnt see much at all.

Found after going to replace our other cache "cattlemens clearing"!
We expected a bit more of a rugged track to get up to the cache but it was pretty good no real need for 4wd just clearance!
Great Views from the top! Mt Cobbler looks interesting from this location!
Thanks Derringer

Very aptly named!!
Sentinel Fire maps indicate this cache has been cooked.
There is little chance it survived the flames.
It, and many others will be replaced and remnants removed over the coming year.
On the bright side it means lots of High Country trips

Joint FTF with Rhinogeo at 12.30pm. We were out for a days caching in the area but were surrounded by bushfires that started the night before by lighting (reported 50 fires). Hope this is not the start of another 'January 2003'? Cache is located on a spectacular part of burnt top track and is relatively easy to get to (certainly one direction is easier than the other).
Found on 02/12/06 @ 1232 AEDT. Acccompanied by Stickler in the RhinoMobile we undertook a rather large circuit from Benalla today, picking up quite a few caches in our travels .
Heading towards Pineapple Flat from TBJ, we saw the first glimpse of smoke from the fires ignited by lightning last night [:o] - the smoke was in the general direction of the cache, but I was fairly confident that it would be a safe distance east (closer to Mt Cobbler) of our goal so we would not be getting burned attempting to find Burnt Top .
As we ascended the extent of the 30 fires in the general area became clear but with them all being a couple of ridges away, we were able to snaffle the cache safely for a joint FTF - my 51st WOO-HOO !!
An easy and expeditious exit from the Wabonga Plateau was made just in case
