This is just the break we needed. A nice short multi with no ambiguity and everything works out nicely just how we like them. And we learnt some local history too. We know you meant to put **S 41** 41.6AB **E 172** 37.0CD and we very soon were at the final coordinates. Using our phone torch helped us see the cache. All is pretty good here. Thank you.

On a roadie of the sth Island. Spent the night here then off up to Nelson. Tricky to get to, torch came in handy! Tftm

We stopped briefly here so I went for this cache. At first I wasn't sure about the final resting place, but eventually I braved 'going in' and found the cache. Tftc

Happy to have some quicker Multis at a rest stop! Initially I was worried they might be further away but then after the first one I went for this one too.. The cache seemed to be in rougher shape and may require maintenance!

17-Mar-24
This was a convenient place to stop and stretch the legs. Surprising number of people around. No problems collecting the information and soon at GZ spotting the cache. All good. Thanks for the smiley and for keeping this old cache going.

I am with Muggle on a three and half week trip to NZ. Nothing serious, just the well trodden track every NZ tourist does who is coming from the other side of the world and has not the chance to come here more often. North Island is done, Auckland Coromandel, Rotorua and Wellington touched. We arrived in Picton and transfered to Motueka for a day trip into Abel Tasman NP. Or next stop is Pancake Rocks. I selected some places to relax from driving in between. The short hike was one of them. Of course, I would not let go the the cache unlogged wehn I am already around. Search was more difficult than expected. Bridges have always several places to tuck a box cleverly away. But the cacher before us left traces in the grass which I followed and saw the big box in best shapeThx for hiding.

We stopped in here on our way home to Christchurch after a holiday in Nelson. We found the information on the plaque very interesting and this was a straight forward multi as promised. I needed to use the torch on my phone to make the find. Hasn't been found for quite a while but all fine and some nice swaps inside, TFTC!

21-Apr-22
Well hidden but reasonably quick. TFTC

12-Apr-22
A quick find after answering the questions. Left a few swaps for future young cachers to find. TFTC

Have driven past this one too many times and not stopped. Today I was not so rushed on s return trip from chch, and so made the find and log. TFTC samy!

21-Mar-22
Wet old day we stopped here for a break and great there's multi here...great history..soon gathered all the required information but had to wait a shirt time for some muggles to move along ..a tad of twisting and flexing the body ..soon all was revealed thanks Samy! for the placement

21-Mar-22
It's a drizzly old day so we are slowly making our way to Motueka. Stopped here fir lunch. An interesting plaque. A DOC worker was hovering around so gad to wait for him to finally leave. Then through the fence and under. Almost needed a touch here as it was so dark and container blends in. It wasn't where I expected it to be but should be safe. Thanks for the multi Samy!

Definitely wouldn’t have stopped if it wasn’t for the cache. A great piece of history. TFTC

Out for a morning drive. After missing the other nearby multi , it was good to snare this one. Bugs were plentiful. Thanks for the cache.

Day 10 - Labour weekend extended road trip with Kiwicampnut - relocated to stay south of the ditch.
Got the right location according to hint, but I wasn't prepared to cross the fence or do gymnastics to make the find. Not found since last December.

Found on a road trip to Karamea.
Nice piece of history.

15-Dec-20
Quick find on the way South. Interesting info on the plaque, and nice to spend a little bit of time at this historic railway junction

16-May-20
Returning from Gowan Bridge, we stop here for TS to get some info and put in his Rail cache. But this one is right here. So I gather the info and start searching. This one took a while before finally scaling the fence to take a closer look under to snag and tag this elusive one. Cheers. Hint not so good now.

With an early 5.30am start to pick up The Seagnoid, we managed to scoup up 5 FTFs somewhere around Renwick, under the cloak of darkness. . From Renwick, we headed to Gowan Bridge area, then its off to Tapawera for The Seagnoid to visit all his new Rail series caches. From Tapawera, we head to Richmond for a LAB cache at the cemetery, then a quick call at PakNSave. Stopped off at some great sculpture along the waterfront, to complete another LAB cache. Now time to head home with another stop at Renwick for another couple of Sudoku caches to finish the day. Dropped The Seagnoid off at 8pm to finally get home just before 9pm. Its been a long day but an awesome one. Cheers

Brief stop as we headhome to Blenheim. Simple multi where everything adds up and no ambiguities...I like that. We quickly had cache in hand, a smiley face and back on the road...tftc.

I started my great and unique round trip over the South Island in Christchurch.
My first major stopover was at Lake Tapeko - here I hiked up to Observation Mountain.
I then planned two days in Mount Cook NP with some unforgettable hikes. My big goal was the Mueller Hut - on a super strenuous hike I reached it.
I continued my journey over the lonely Danseys Pass to Dunedin.
Afterwards I drove along the Southern Scienic Route via Invercargill to Manapouri for some days. On this route I visited many sights and enjoyed the beautiful nature again and again.
I already booked a tour to the Doubtful Sound in advance - another highlight on my tour.
Afterwards I drove on to Queensown and Wanaka. From there I continued over the Haast Pass to the lonely Jackson Bay with storm and heavy rain. Afterwards I drove along the west coast always in pouring rain.
The rain stopped the whole west coast, but I had good rainwear with me. Only high up in Nelson the sun shone again.
Soon I reached the east coast again in Picton and Blenheim and the sun was shining again.
After a few days I travelled back to Christchurch via the beautiful town of Kaikoura.
At the end of my round trip I spent a few more days in Christchurch and its surroundings.
I visited many geological sites and found many caches on my round trip. In Rangiora I visited an event.
I travelled 3418 km and take home a lot of positive experiences.
Thanks to many beautiful caches I was also shown unique locations, historical sites and geological features.
I am overwhelmed by the fantastic and ever changing nature on the South Island of New Zealand - I will definitely come back.

Many thanks to all owners
Team sissifalke

Historical little spot.

01-Dec-19
The coordinates are easy to gather. A short walk to GZ, but then... where is the container? A sign says - do not go there. But if you want to sign, you have to. Funny hide and in my opinion not that risky, just be aware if heavy traffic is above you. TFTC

10-Oct-19
I have just moved over to the South Island from Australia. Hoping to live and explore the country over the next few years and find a lot of caches on the way. Cheers for the hides.

Found the multi but as the others have said it is a bit further underneath than expected.

22-Sep-19
A lot further under than we thought, especially given the sign that says not to enter! TFTC

20-Sep-19
Got the coordinates easy enough. Spotted where I had to go then someone drives up close to the GZ facing forward. So had ti abandon the attempt.

25-May-19
A bit further under than expected, 1 litre container well wedged in. Nice one to finally tick off the list. TFTC

07-May-19
Looking for it on both corners... Is it still there ?

20-Apr-19
Took a bit of hunting here then came up with two cache containers we signed the log play ed them back as where we found them great spot to stop tftc

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!

Today we have found the cache "Take-A-Break (Nelson/Marlborough)".

samy!, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Greetings from the Netherlands,
de hangijzers

02-Feb-19
Found it after some searching. TFTC.

25-Jan-19
After reading several previous logs I decided to have another look when passing by. The cache is most definitely there, but the hint is completely misleading. Not close to a corner and no ledges involved, you just need to climb under as it is wedged between. Quick find today. TFTC!

03-Jan-19
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

30-Dec-18
Very cool concept and theoretical location, but a dnf for us. We got usable coords, and the hint made sense; however, access to any deeper was not really happening due to several factors such as warning signs, fence, blackberry, and toilet paper suggestive of an alternative use of gz. Can the cache location please be checked?

12-Dec-18
The 3rd time I have stopped here and been muggled by people working very close to GZ - this time it was a man with a Weed eater ..... he wasn't finishing any time soon, so I moved on.

08-Dec-18
After counting and recounting a few times I finally got trustworthy coordinates.
But after having hundreds of things biting me my mood for an thorough search was minimal. So after a few minutes of jumping and waiving of the blood waters I gave up.

02-Oct-18
Phew, that was exciting! Without the hint we might not have found it (or might not have dared to venture as deep).
Thanks for hiding this one!
Logbook is a little damp.

First find of the day.
Pulled in, solved the quick multi and got the torch out for the find in the dawning light. Quickish find, the issue was putting it back when I dropped it in the wrong spot. A couple of minutes to wiggle that out then it was replaced correctly as found. TFTC Samy!
Today was day one of 7 on a trip around the South Island for Jo and I, and the first leg is Blenheim to Hokitika. An early start and on our road trip we targeted caches after St Arnaud. That was the desired plan, but necessitated by the fact it was still dark as we drove through there anyway. After that it was pretty much find anything on our side of the road as we drove west, but as we moved on we set goals to be in certain towns by certain times, so skipped large chunks. The weather changed from light drizzle to full on rain, which also scuppered some plans on targeted caches and left us cold and wet for most of the trip.
But all up a good day.
Jo used to live in these parts, but hasn’t been here for about 16 years; for me it has been about 13 since a trip down here. So we enjoyed the scenery, and the changes, and also the caches so credit and thanks to all the COs for maintaining these.

A nice spot to stop for a break and SJT_NZ and I quickly got the necessary cords, there was a campervan parked near the memorial but we headed off towards GZ. Took a while to locate and log was wet so replaced log, TFTC

Tregearp and I had decided on a walk out and about today and wanted to ensure we didn't miss a vital turn off … and as it happens, there happened to be a cache right at the junction. Perfect.

The GPSr ensured we clocked the intersection and then popped in to look at the cache. Info quickly gathered and soon on the hunt for the nearby final.

Tregearp made the find - and also conducted some minor maintenance. Everything now in good order.

Thanks samy for the multi Smile.

Ignored the deterrent and it was a quick find. Well disguised in the dark but the trusty cell phone torch help me spot it. Log is pretty moist but signable. Tftc

04-Jan-17
Only read now previous logs saying not by the hint location - no wonder couldn't find it. The heavy rain scared all of the muggles away so GZ was al clear but no luck.

31-Dec-16
At right spot but couldn't look too hard as a camper close by. Ah well another time.

11-Nov-16
We sorted out co-ords quickly enough but area was a bit busy for a decent search so we went off and found another cache down the road and when we came back the area was clear, although cache took a bit of finding due to not being near the clue.

10-Sep-16
Right location but our eyes failed us.

30-Apr-16
We're visiting from Florida, USA. That was great fun. Thanks for placing the cache.

29-Apr-16
Stopped here on the way to Nelson from Blenheim. It's Friday night and I need a few caches today as part of my Get My Calendar Up To Three project. I love railway caches and was quite excited by this area when I saw the old platforms but, alas, this one is not a railway cache. Quick find at the final, although I had to peer a bit - it is starting to get dark.

27-Apr-16
Having grabbed the numbers quickly and checking them over and over to try and find why I was being asked to go kilometres away, I eventually spotted the CO's coordinates transposition in the description and found that I was only the advised 100m or so away from the GZ.

However, by now, two camper vans had pulled up nearby and were too close to the GZ for comfort.

So, I will retain the numbers and return for the find (hopefully) another day soon.

08-Apr-16
Unfortunately not found.

02-Mar-16
Yesterday I solved the quiz but couldn't find it. Today I went a little bit further on under it and got it.
We stayed here tonight and it was OK.
Thanks for the challenge

21-Feb-16
A trip up the valley to St Arnaud and into Richmond the long way before a loop back through Wakefield, to Rabbit Island via Dovedale. Sounds like a crazy plan? Sure was. I've solved a couple of puzzle caches over Wakefield way and was looking to grab them on a single loop drive before a low-tide assault on the Bells Island caches, which got canned due to time/energy/pluck.
Having been in this area for just over a year a few of the Nelson/Marlborough COs are replacing some of my North Island ones on my 'caches placed by a certain CO' list. A few big movers up that chart today.
Stopped off here after our one cache in St Arnaud and headed straight to G Z armed with an idea from a previous finder. Failed at that so got the info off the plaque, calculated, and returned back to G Z again. After looking a little bit harder I soon found the cache and replaced as found after signing duties were complete. I do like to find a multi whenever I can. Todays multi. . . . . . . . done
T F T C samy!

Clambered all over and under this bridge and were about to give up when one of our group with a long arm came up trumps. Very well hidden. Couple of cyclists had set up their tent on the old railway platform, probably didn't appreciate our noisy presence.

13-Jan-16
This was a cache we will remember, probably for the wrong reason.
Arriving at the area it was allready getting colder and after a bit of search went back to get a sweater. When back at the site, noticed the batteries where down....so hubby went now back to the camper for fresh batteries. While walking up and down and still searching, I was unscrewing the my GPS. When hubby came with the batteries I noticed that the cover of the GPS was gone. Strange as I had it just a couple of secs ago.... Look and look but nope. Widen my search wider and wider. Certainly cause we had some wind that I thought it must be blown away.
Just go for a search of a darkgrey piece of plastic. Oh I was almost crying.
Convinced it wasn't that far away, looked again everywhere and hubby was already looking with the flashlight. After he gave up I took the flashlight for one last look..... and had the light just at the right angle to find it under a beam. PFFFFF

21-Dec-15
Stopped for a random break and found a geocache woo hoo.
Found cache after a bit of a search - always good to look vertically as well as horizontally. The black lid was quite good camo! Tftc Smile Nice location

08-Nov-15
Went for a drive around the Lakes, taking in all the views and finding some caches on the way. This was a nice simple multi but took longer to find the cache than work out the coords. Finally spotted it with the aid of my phone torch.
Many thanks for this cache samy!

07-Nov-15
We looked low and lower to no avail. Is it really here. We don't think so Sad

29-Oct-15
Checked on cache site and the DOC (green) fence is only at the entrance to the bridge and a wire fence around underneath to prevent people from sheltering under it.
The cache should only be at what the hint says.
Thanks

05-Oct-15
Will check out if another suitable place to hide, thanks.

04-Oct-15
Quickly solved the puzzle and got the final co-ords but took a while to find the cache, especially since DoC has fenced off the bridge. TFTC

04-Sep-15
Found with Kiwimykl, refer to his log for details.

I found the information about the plane crash quite interesting.

TFTC samy!

04-Sep-15
NZDi and I had planned a two day caching weekend with the original idea to cache from Blenheim to At Arnaud to Kawatiri Junction to Nelson on Friday, then cache around Nelson on Saturday. We decided this would be too ambitious and scaled it back and start from Kawatiri Junction and this was the first cache of the day.

It was easy enough to work out the coordinate from the information plaque and interesting as well. Finding the cache was not quite as easy but perseverance paid off and the cache was eventually found in an obvious are.

TFTC samy!

Found this one after spending a night at this site. I got the answers in the evening before, so I just had to sign the logbook in the morning. Thanks!

The descripton of the geocache sounds very short so we decide to make a break - stretching our legs and of course to get all the values. After two minutes we collected the final coordinate, where we found the box quickly. Thanks a lot for the cache.

22-Dec-14
A short Multi...Easy to find all information and the box. Thanks!

09-Dec-14
This was a nice short Multi. Today was the first day when the team Chilliesser was united and when together on tour. Big Grin At the beginning we where wondering if it is possible to search the final only with the hint Cool but due to the last two logs, which where DNFs, we decided to do this cache in a correct way. Smile

After collecting all informations we recognized the right corner of the bridge and after less than a minute the little Chilliesser found the box. Big Grin

Thanks for this cache

We didn't find this one. We had a good look around and then came back and had another one... still not there.

Had a good look but no luck with this one today Sad

17-Oct-14
We took a little break on our way to Westport and read about the tragedy that happened nearby. Very sad! Then we calculated the coordinates but it took a while to locate the cache container. Found it hidden between two beams of the bridge construction and put it back there. It's well camouflaged.

#8175. Third time lucky. The ground was a bit wet, so we weren't sure whether to stop for another look. In the end we did, and this time I looked in the right place straight away and there was the cache! You have to smile when that happens after 2 DNFs. Nicely hidden. TFTC.

27-Sep-14
A camper van than was parked near GZ drove off as we approached, so the way was clear for another look for this elusive cache. I decided to recalculate the co-ords while StreetWalker went straight to work looking in the same spot as we had previously looked. In seconds he had found it. I'm sure the cache must have been playing hide and seek with us last time.
Signed the logbook and returned to the car before the sandflies or muggles descended. Pleased to finally turn into a smiley! Thanks for highlighting this interesting plaque. TFTC.

08-Jun-14
A good place to stop, the walkway is one of our favourites. TFTC

04-May-14
StreetWalker and I gathered the info for this multi on the way south but after a quick look, SW couldn't find the cache then. It was much drier today, so decided to stop for another go. We looked on both sides, in terrain rather more than the cache page rating, but neither of us could spot the elusive cache. We gave it away when both sandflies and muggles descended.

13-Apr-14
We weren't in good caching form today. The conditions were cold and damp, and we were more geared up for the current exercise of relocating from Wellington to Nelson than hardcore caching. A couple of muggle campervans nearby didn't help. Troodles soon had some coords, and the cache finding was delegated to me. I couldn't find it, so got the job of logging the DNF. We'll no doubt be past quite often once we have moved to Nelson, so will be back for another look before too long.

I grew up hearing stories about Bert Mercer landing his plane on the beach at Bruce Bay when my Mum was a young girl. Everytime we drove to Christchurch she would tell us about the terrible crash that claimed the life of her big friend Bert Mercer. She also attended the unveiling of this plaque so plenty of wonderful memories here for me. This was our first multi and what a wonderful place to have a go at one TFTC

6/09/13 3:59 PM Find #2568 At long last I have this cache after driving past so many times and not knowing it was here. On my road trips I have always filtered out anything that wasn't a 'traditional' as I'm always on a schedule to get where I'm going. Definitely an interesting bit of history here (plus photo opportunity) and a sneaky hide. I grabbed the TB to take on a little journey. Thanks Samy!
