16/3/2024 Find #6905This morning found me out with Tenkae and shazzar66 on a maintenance trip to a nearby Tenkae cache. With duties and chatting done, I dropped the other two back at their awaiting vehicles. Then decided to grab just a few more caches around the area. By this stage I was on the return north but still wanted to grab one or two that were on a couple of my lists. This was on two lists - friends caches and oldies. I pulled the car up at the spot I had chosen to start from, with fuel light now on and me ready to hold my breath when I leave here to find a servo. Through the end of road barriers and across a tiny creek then I was on path. The walk up was peaceful but the clouds seemed to be rolling in. Not too long later I was at GZ and made a quick find, dropping in a TB Id had for far too long. Then I headed back. And missed my turn off. So ended up taking a longer yet mostly flatter walk back to the car as that sky continued to darken. And yes, I made it fine to the service station! Thanks for the cache Crew 153.

A drive to the gold coast for another non-event this morning, sees me able to grab a few caches on the way back home. On the way back I also remembered an event at logan and conveniently a late afternoon event. It was nice grab a few caches to fill in gaps on my challenge grids and continue with a couple other challenges I am working on. I had grabbed a couple of caches down the coast and was on my way back to attend the logan event. I was running an hour early so I decided to head off and do this cache. I pulled up and noticed the huge gate with the private property sign. I found another way around and made it to the cache. I replaced all as found and made my way back and headed out to the event. Thanks for the cache.

Well this one was on my to d9 list for ages but I never seem to get here as I was always scared to go solo but it's a bit different when you have company.
I puffed and grunted my way up and down the hills and there was probably an easier way but I didn't find it.
Signatures left before replacing as found. TFTC

This was a target cache today. Another oldie.

Travelling to the end of Grassdale Road, I ventured over the water course and up to the track. Not sure where the bridge was! The next question was the climb up the steep track but step by step, the top was in sight.

Included a replacement cache in the pack today as a previous cacher had indicated the cache was lidless. The log book baggie was full of water, so I was pleased to have a replacement.

Now for that descent on the slippery track, and managed to make it down without injury.

Another oldie. Thank you.

After parking on Randle Road I headed into the scrub. Before long I reached a Y intersection and of course went incorrectly to the right. Eventually I realized the problem and rather than backtrack went cross country towards GZ. This was actually quite fun and gave me a chance to practice the 'ol "follow the contour line" navigation technique. After some 500 metres of this I intersected the track I should have been on. Soon after this I was at GZ.

The cache was soon found but is not in great shape. The lid has gone and the container was half filled with water. I was in sight of the nearby house so did not hang around to look for the lid. I emptied the water and left the cache where I found it but on it's side to prevent it filling up in the next downpour. Sorry Crew 153, but you'll need to visit and bring a whole new replacement cache.

Anyway, I enjoyed my adventure getting to this one so a favorite point from me (who wants to just follow the trails anyway?).

Came by but couldn’t find a suitable entry point this afternoon. Will come back and look another time.

I've seen this cache icon sitting out here all by itself quite a few times in the past and always thought, oh one day I'll get over there. Well today I was sort of in the area and decided today was the day.
So I headed for the closest entry point from my last find. On the way to the parking spot I passed a speed camera parked on the side of the road. Even out here in the middle of nowhere theres one on the side of the road. Ridiculous.
Anyway found a park next to the biggest house I've ever seen in the bush and headed in. A nice little stroll with a little up but before long I was standing on the side of the track looking towards GZ. I just started crunching through the sticks and leaves when I heard old mate in the neighbouring house banging something. Then he came across the yard to his shed, I didn't move, he went back inside so I took off again. Unfortunately my phone decided to take me the long way round(2nd time today actually) so I had to start and stop a few times as old mate kept coming and going. For the size of this bush and how close the cache is to old mates yard, I'm gathering the cache was here first.
Not to worry though, I soon spotted my prize in it's hide. I signed in then headed out the back door to the track.
Thanks again Crew

Wildlife spotted today: 2 x staffies, 2 x poodles (a me and a mini-me), a bitsa and something that barked but friendly. There were 4 muggles chaperoning the K9s, two that wanted to have a bush walk and two mini-mes that didn't. At least the lead muggle didn't release the hounds when she had the chance but the errant doggy kisses did hit there targets.

Other than that, no other wildlife encountered. Thanks Crew 153 for keeping this oldie active.

This oldie was a target for me today... I still don’t know if I parked in the most convenient place, but I suspect that may have been Crew153s intention all those years ago...

It wasn’t hard to find the cache... so after leaving my mark, and leaving Emmie TB to carry on, I returned everything as found...

Tftc... oh, and I can report the recycled bottle mentioned by woodyrothwell 18 months ago is still here...

An unplanned afternoon, so I grabbed my todo-list, and headed out to here for the next find of this afternoon's sojourn. I see this one hasn't been found for a little while - It's a great spot and a lovely little walk up the hill (I took the extra T-rating approach apparently). Plenty of dogs walking their muggles and a friendly dog greeting them all as they passed his fenceline. Cache was found where it should be, in great condition.

Thanks Crew 153 for entertaining me at this location.

Before we even started our walk up the hill, we spied a couple of kangaroos jumping by. Off to a good start on the wilderness trail. Later we had a small wallaby jump over the path but apart from the stupid monkey walking next to my wife that was all the wildlife we saw.

We huffed and puffed up the small hill and soon had the goods in our hand. I was perplexed when I saw an empty juice bottle right next to the log. Surely only a cacher would be in the area and they would be slack to leave rubbish right next to GZ.

Not only that, they had cut a hole in the juice bottle and left a small segment of hose in it. It looked like some sort of home made contraption that you could use to smoke marijuana (whatever that is). It became clear that some other folk visit the area for a tilt at the Mary Jane and unsuspectingly sat next to the cache for a good time. If they were catchers I hope we can go out on the hunt together one day. tftc

Today I was working at a nearby housing development, and made the most of the opportunity to take a walk after work to find this fine oldie. I spotted a couple of kangaroos and some wallabies as well as enjoyed the stroll and the breeze. All was found in good order and I added my name to the log. Tftc Crew 153 Big Grin

Taking the road less travelled on my own heading off to see Monkey and a Bug, and found a cache along the way. Bit of a heart rate raising uphill walk along a decent dirt road, listening to Triple J hottest 100 on this ANZAC day -!cold bevvie in hand but sadly no comemorative biscuits. Looks as though nobody had been here since September! Cache is in excellent condition. Cool little patch of scrub..:gets me thinking about what might happen here to attract more people .tftc

continued ...

Old Mate, fully camped, out in the middle of nowhere! Not sure who got the bigger shock, me finding the tent, supplies, fully functional camp-fire & reclining occupant or Old Mate suddenly having ME burst forth from nowhere! A couple of seconds of mutual reflection & I stammered out a 'G'day mate, nice spot!' before hastily continuing on into the undergrowth in search of the cache.
This is seriously becoming an all day event!
A little more uphill & I finally stumbled upon the trail I should have taken in the first place & found myself within 43 metres of GZ. This cache had better be here or heads will roll (if I ever find my way back out!).

Well, once on location this was a nice quick find! LOL ...
TNLNSL & turned for the trek back to, hopefully, the Geo-beast & home.
Hold on! I haven't heard from dahumbug, I wonder if we're still on for this evening?
Out with the phone, no messages?
Checked for service ... how did you get into airplane mode???
Reconfigured & guess what? 5 messages & 2 missed calls ... OOPS!
I quickly assured the family that I was still alive (despite being thirsty, tired & perspiring just a little).
Ring, ring ... Oh, Hello Corey, yes mate good to go, meet you as agreed!
Bloody heck! Now I have to run back to the car, travel 37 minutes to our destination to hook up for ... a little caching! AAARRGGHHH!!!

All in all, a great little adventure despite the fact that I think I got ALL my options wrong on this one.
I must remember to thank Max for the experience next time I see him! I hope it's soon. Smile

TFTC & the adventure Crew 153 Smile
A favourite point because, despite all my stuff ups, I really did enjoy this one. LOL ... Call me psycho!

Footnote : After visiting a few caches with dahumbug we decided a little more adventure was called for.
Off we go, to an as yet publicly undisclosed location, for mixed participation in a serious Tree Cache placement & to meet up with a few other CRAZY cachers.
Well ... HELLO MAX! I didn't know you'd be here! We should have a little chat ...

Smilie #2599

This was to be my last cache for today before meeting dahumbug for some Tom Foolery! LOL ...
I wished for a quick find but you know what they say ... "Be careful what you wish for!'
Little did I realise ...

Firstly, let me quote from the cache description ...

"A stroll in the bush.
It was a 600metre walk along a graded roadway from where I parked the car. There are other approaches which may be harder or easier. Your selection of parking spots will be critical in determining the terrain rating.
There is a lot of wildlife. I saw a goanna, a kangaroo and a koala in the hour I was walking in the area."

Thank you Crew 153, very informative & 'accurate!'
ALAS, the above was NOT to be my story.

Having just completed a mystery cache near Logan Village I looked at my list & decided a quick visit here was in order. Fired up the Geo-beast, locked the co-ords into the car GPS & headed off to face the unknown! A quick glance at the calculated 'Time Of Arrival' & I thought 'What! 26 minutes, that can't be right?' Yes, it actually was. Noting the 'As The Crow Flies' distance was only a little over 4 kms I had committed myself to the challenge without thoroughly checking the details. A 26 minute drive covering around 30 kms was in order. Oh well, I should still have plenty of time.
It was quite a pleasant, & mostly scenic drive, & the time passed quickly to have me arrive at a gated trail. OK, parked the beast & took a look at the 'Distance To Go' (no, I hadn't read the description earlier either.) & found I had a nice little hike ahead of me ... 627 metres to GZ from where I stood. Hmmm, 627 x 2 = 1.254 kms return. Not too bad, I can still do this! NO, I didn't factor in 'As The Crow Flies' once again! Trust me, it was a wee bit further than 1.254 kms.
Headed down the trail , in high spirits, enjoying the walk & the peace & quiet until ... a FORK in the trail.
Easy, check the compass, cache is 'that' way!
Once again NOT factoring in the good old 'As The Crow Flies' (I'm beginning to get a little annoyed at all these mischievous crows)! Another couple of hundred metres along the trail & the compass decides to let me know that I had actually TAKEN THE WRONG FORK!
Composure maintained, I looked around & considered my options.
While I had been day dreaming & strolling along enjoying the ambience the 'Distance To Go' had crept back UP. OK, nothing for it but to about face & head back in a more appropriate direction.
I think I'll do a slow jog for a little while, that will pass the time & reduce the distance quicker.
Jog, jog, jo..g, j..o...g, j.....o, slog! It was uphill!
Checked the compass a little more regularly & narrowed it down, deliberately this time, to shortest 'Distance To Go' 'As The Crow Flies'.
Not back to the fork yet but that's just 'The Luck Of The Draw!'
Eyes down, 'Exit Stage Left!'
Time for a little direct line bush-whacking. The undergrowth wasn't too dense so the going was quite good & the surrounding flora & fauna wasn't disturbed to any noticeable degree. Well, apart from the two kangaroos & several wallabies that didn't want to share in my adventure & quickly headed further afield. Not to forget the large lace monitor who opted for a better platform from which to observe my frantic antics & hastened up a rather large tree.
All going fairly well & then I stumbled across ...

continued ...

It is cold and raining at my house so I am wearing jeans. I have turned up to this location at it is the hottest place on the planet with no cloud in the sky. I park within 400m or so of the cache which turns into uphill most of the way. It is so hot. After a while there turns out to be several different forks in the path. I tried a couple but ended up with the cache fairly quickly. Since I had made so many turns I started to ponder if I would remember the route back to the car. It hadn't got to look at the GPS-r breadcrumb stage because I was sure that I have sweated that much that surely a tracker dog worth its salt would be able to find me.

What a great hike! Didn't take much to find when there.

I noticed this cache had been replaced, thanks Brother Colin. With nothing to do with my Thursday, I thought I'd head to the darkside and give this cache some love. I had a quick look at the map and decided to approach this one from the north.

I parked Spangle, booted up and hit the track. A short stroll later, up just a few small hills and I was looking at the sparkly new cache. I left my signature and then replaced the cache as I had found it.

Thanks for the cache Crew 153 Big Grin

Recently at an event I reminded the CO that I am happy to go for a walk with him to replace this cache. Smile
He said that it would be OK for me to replace this cache if I wanted to, so I confirmed the original hiding spot. Big Grin
As I have all of the necessary bits and pieces lying around Razz I soon had a container ready to go with all of the necessary stuff in it. Cool
So this morning I headed off up the hill and replaced the cache. It is regular in size.
I also checked to co-ords while there. Wink
I got S 27 44.802 E153 09.130 which is about 10m different from the posted co-ords.
Thanks for the morning walk and the cache.

I left a pathtag and a couple of TB's as well.

What is the one thing you want to do more than anything when you are jet lagged? Go walking through the bush in jeans and boots on the hottest day you have been in for the last month to search in the wrong spot for a long time, check your phone for photos and see one you think will help and search the same spot that your fellow cacher checked during minute 2 to find the cache there and have to walk back again? Yep me too!!! Thanks for the cache Crew 153 unfortunately it was a wake up call about how holidays ruin your fitness Sad

Sure was a warm day to pick to go strolling around the Scrub, but Net88 and I did just that today. It's an area I've wanted to tick off for a while so were out on foot doing just that. A park was quickly found at the end of a culdesac and after the enjoyable walk in, the GPS sent us to a likely area and we set to work hunting. The GPS had us not quite on the obvious feature, but for about 15 minutes we looked all around. No luck.. hmm. I debated making a PAF but Net88 checked some logs and found a nice photo hint which led us to a spot and soon after, the cache. It had been very well hidden and we'd simply overlooked the spot. All the same, added our names to the log and glad to not have to make it a DNF. TFTC Crew 153, an enjoyable area to visit, despite the hills on a hot day Smile

Geo Girls were both going to Holiday Programme up North until Youngest Geo Girl said "Dad could I come caching with you today".

Well I thought that was great both that she wanted to go with me all day and I was flying solo today so I said YES.

I thought we would go along the Waterford Tamborine Rd today so we locked in the caches and off we went.

We were taking the Trackables for a jaunt around the country side to add to their distance travelled but none of the sites we had picked today fitted the requirements of the TB Owners.

I chose a spot to enter the reserve which was more than 600 metres but was a track all the same so I blindly decided that we head up from there.

The going was ok for a while, but the GPS had been playing up and I thought I was going in the right direction until it swung around so there was no doubt we needed to head across rather than up further.

I am so proud of Geo Girl who didn't complain once as we continued over then up and up and up over logs through grass and at one stage through a ravine but there was not an option of heading back so we soldiered on.

We were so relieved to finally reach a flat area that we bounced along the last 200 metres and joined another track.

GZ was tracked down, we studied the location and soon came up with the prize.

We were so happy that we had found the treasure as we had put a lot of effort in getting to it.

Note to following caching searchers, if you do chose the bottom road (those words in themselves speak volumes) then there is a track that will eventually get you to the area of GZ via a windy path.

About 50 metres after entering the reserve there is a track off to the left take it not the track straight ahead.

Next time I will read the notes a bit more thoroughly to get the best entry point for this type of hide.

Thanks Crew153 It is not your fault for our choice and we had a real sense of accomplishment in overcoming the odds TFTC SL TSLS

After my foiled attempt last time, I had another go at this one today, in the company of Kaisho53. We made it the first of the day and availed ourselves of the crisp morning air during the climb.. [^]

We found a dead end road that served as a way in and the GPS suggested a fraction over 600m to GZ. That was until we started going sideways of course... Surprised A fork in the path forced a decision and luckily, we chose the right option and watched the numbers count down once we had aligned with the cache direction... Big Grin

At GZ, the cache was soptted quickly. THere was a little water in the bottom but that was quickly dispersed by Kaisho53. Otherwise, all is good with the container. Log signed, we tucked it away and headed back from whenst we came... [^]

Great morning for a walk. Cheers Crew153.

I remember Radnoski talking to me about this cache. I had a hell of a time driving to the parking. Stupid TomTom wanted me to drive on a forest track. I finally sorted that out and made my way in. I was very happy with the track I took in. I changed my mind at one point and was happy I did. I pretty much bee-lined for the cache. I got to GZ and started the hunt. It was not where I thought it would be - but an inspection of likely areas soon revealed the well-hidden prize. It was in good condition. A pity about the blustery old day - didn't get to enjoy the area as much. TFTC Crew 153 Smile

I was in the area with a few hours spare so I decided to track down some caches.

This one had been "unloved" for a while so I decided to check it out.

I parked at S27 45.183 S153 09.023 and headed up the track. I missed a left turn at the beginning and ended up walking all the way around the circuit and found the shorter way on the way back. It was a nice walk with lots of trees to shade me from the sun.

The above co-ordinates are for where you can turn left on the walking track (pretty close to the car parking spot) for a quicker route to the cache.

I got to the cache and found that the log book had actually been signed by the "Green Geckos" in October 2010. (It is more loved than the internet would have us think)

Thanks for the cache Crew 153. Cheers!

I was glad when the Garmin started pointing back towards the car and the numbers started to decrease (see photo).... yes I was going the right way and it was actually a circuit.

Grrr. I pulled up at a perfect entry point and started to gather my water and other things to take on my walk. Just about to jump out of the car when a car load of youngsters pulled up. The oldest and roughest falcon I have seen for some time and the occupants looked less than desirable. They didn't look like they were going anywhere and I was not about to leave the Gunniemobile unattended with their presence so, I sat for a while longer. As I sat, the rain started so I thought someone was trying to tell me something and I moved on. I'll be back for this one another time.

A hot, sticky stroll to GZ had us poking around near some big trees but Mrs Herbz had her geocaching radar switched on and found the cache some 10m away in a very likley spot. Found on a nice day out with the Holminators and Gintmaster.

I drove to within 300 metres of this cache and then enjoyed a bush walk, disturbing a wallaby along the way. Some days the GPS just doesn't want to work though and this was one of them. Thinking like a cacher I went to GZ first up but it was so well hidden I kept looking. GPS took me all over the place but kept returning to GZ so I had a dig with my little shovel and low and behold; a cache. TFTC took nothing left token.

Great walk in the bush. The geokids were especially impressed by 4 trail bike riders doing a couple of small jumps and tricks over some dirt mounds etc on the dirt tracks in the area.

The cache was easily located and is still in good condition.

A couple of small swaps made. Took one TB and left another.

Thanks for the hunt Crew 153

We definetly took the hard way and it was dark,a labrador came bound out at us, so I think the whole area knew we were there then after a slight scream. Found the cache within 10 secs of gz spot.

Found! Cache number 5 for me. Roads around the area were mapped on the GPS but werent accessable which meant we had to park a little further away than intended. Started on a path but left the path for a more direct route to the cache. Terrain was a little hilly when we left the path but I was happy to stretch the legs a bit. Its a nice area, nice walks. It had been raining today and it looks as if some of the trees dye the water a dark black. Where the water pools the water gets very dark blue, and deeper puddles go midnight black. A sight to see. GPS was giving us some funny instructions so I think reception may be iffy in some areas. Found the spot though and located the cache. Very good hiding spot. TFTC crew.

Found by Sunshine Toledo at 3:42pm. It took 3 goes to find the best entrance to this cache coming from the south and lots of road building going on round here. Easy walk to the cache along a very dry and dusty track. In: frog Out: black car TFTC

After reading all the logs regarding hills, I was happy to find the graded track to GZ first attempt (so was my seven year old grandson. We used this one to launch his first TB. Took Ludo game and motorbike and left Tane's Gorilla Bug and clown fish keyring. It was a lovely walk through the scrub. SL TFTC

I wish I had spent a little extra time researching this one on Google for the closest entry point instead of trusting Tom Tom. Any chance I had of completing more caches for today had gone out the window with the amount of time I spent on this one.

However, I needed the exercise and I hadn't walked this far at this pace for a long time. I had to really set a quick pace back because night was falling quickly and the track seemed to be circling around the cache. Wink I eventually found the cache after a lot of walking and I also found a closer access point on the way out.

Just to be different, I approached from the west. It's a bit shorter, but a steep climb. Found the cache a bit away from GZ but you get that. TN/LN/SL.
I decided to head over to the camp site mentioned in The Garner Family's log. It's still there but no one was around - that I could see. By the amount of rubbish about, it would seem someone spends a good deal of time there. They also eat a lot of home brand chunky tuna and mackerel - blah [xx(].

This was not much fun today, through no fault of the cache. It was just so hot! [xx(] The uphills seemed to go on forever! It's good to crossit off the list though! Big Grin

No swaps today.

Thanks Crew for the cache.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk through the bush just before sunset. We saw some rosellas - and the scribbly gums were a lovely orange in the sunset.

Thanks to Crew 153 for the cache.

I trekked along the path until the path seemed to go the wrong way and then I bashed through the bush for the last 350m or so... it was a pleasant walk as it always tends to be in nice patches like this.

I found the cache easily once I got to GZ and then took a more direct route back to my parking spot. On the way back, in the middle of absolutely nowhere - I mean I wasn't even on a track, I found a campsite setup with tent and all - it actually looks quite permanent so I suspect someone is squatting out here. It was at S27 44.678 E153 9.257.

Thanks for a lovely cache.

Found the entry point and proceeded to the cache. Bit of uphill and we trudged a little wearily in the hot sun. The neightbour at the top near the park boundary was right on to us as we arrived. We presumed we was afraid we were fire bugs but we explained that I was learning how to use a gps. Cache was about 12m from where we thought gz was in an obvious spot. TNLN. Thanks Crew 153
