I went up to see what I could manage here. Having seen some DNFs we were not confident. We started from the bottom and walked up. It was tough, but we got to a lookout that was 6m from the posted coords - could not get closer as the arrow was pointing over a fence.
Counted we did and concurred. Then much looking here and there and here and there again. The fog was fortunate as we didn't have anything else to look at. Then our time was up. Walked down again to meet up with those we left behind.

Pretty sure we had the right place, AND we had to descend again as we were coming from the other direction!

This was a perfect day to find this cache: not many people on this path. We wouldn't have to walk all the way back up because of the ticket for the easy ride up.
I wasn't sure about the starting point and when I counted 77 steps down I thought I was on the wrong steps to find a cache so I kept on going down and before I knew it we were all the way down!
It was really a nice path and the steps weren't as steep and many as I thought it would be. But it's always easier going down than up, I guess. Thanks anyway and greetings from the Netherlands.

Didn't find it, though the instructions were clear and the location looked good.
In Katoomba as a support vehicle for some scouts while they are hiking in the area. Today they are hiking to Ruined Castle and back today before walking the Six Foot Track tomorrow. I decided to do some walking myself. My journey was a nice loop starting at the Katoomba Falls Kiosk, down the Furber Steps, along Federeal Pass, up the Giant Stairway and along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk back to Katoomba Falls Kiosk. Along the way, I attempted a few caches. This one was the first. I am fairly certain that I started counting at the correct spot and step 77 was at what I considered to be a reasonably likely location on the stairs. I searched high and low (done lots of waiting as muggles passed) but eventually had to give up. One for me to have another crack at, if I am ever back in the area. Thanks bshwckr
Got by the 2nd attempt. Tried it yesterday during my evening "run" with the head lamp. But took the wrong way.
This morning the way was correct and the 77th step showed me the nice cache!
The space to log decreases slowly...
Thanks for hiding!

Took a punt on various "jutting stairs" with 77 descending stairs to follow but with a rendezvous overdue up the hill didn't have time to reexplore each possible site. Breathtaking beauty, the Furbers, I'll be back.
On Easter Sunday what better way to celebrate than getting a cache. We were on our afternoon break at Katoomba Easter Convention and my geogirlfriend and I took a walk specifically to get this cache. We were a little confused as to its location at first but found the Furber stairs eventually. After a few starts at counting stairs we finally found the location to start counting from - just down past the named 'Furber Lookout'. After that it was exactly 77 stairs and I spotted it straight away. A lovely afternoon out with spectacular views
Found a great LO near the top of Furber Steps pointing to the Three Sisters, but coords were well off. So had to descend a reasonable way till we had a choice of 2 LOs. We counted 77 from both and fortunately managed to find the little cache, within foots reach. TFTC
We took the Furber steps down, counted, looked for a bit, but had to leave to catch the last scenic railway run back up. We did NOT want to climb back up!
We recently won a family pass to Scenic World at the school trivia night so, with a beautiful warm Saturday ahead we made our plans to head to the mountains. After testing out each of the scenic world attractions before the crowds and queues had grown too large, we headed into the bush. Along the Prince Henry cliff top walk, down the Furber stairs for this multi back up and onto Echo Point and then down the Giant Stairway and back through the Dardenelles Pass.
I had to count down from the jutting point (the one just below the sign for Furber Stairs) a couple of times to be sure I was right. I found the little cache after four sets of eyes looked for quite a while. The passing muggles were oblivious to what we were up to. The log was mush but I was able to get my initials on and seal it back up. It will need some attention from CO.

Very nice one! Thanks for placing! Went up and down the 77 steps about four times!!! to find this one because my coords were off about 30 m! But well worth it! To the longer way back via Giant Stairway and Echo Point! Thanks again for our first find in Down Under! Greetz from Germany!
On our [trip around the world](http://www.hoppundweg.piekar.de/) we came to Australia as well. We started in Tasmania, rented a campervan in Melbourne and went up the Eastcoast to Cairns. Then we drove all the way to the Red Centre. We finished in Darwin. We searched many caches and found almost every cache we searched for . Thanks to all the owners of these caches. Now, 2 years later, we recognized, we will never be able to log every cache seperately... So: Sorry for this standard logtext and thanks for one of the caches, which accompanied us on our journey.
Favourite. Great walk to see three sisters and Katoomba Falls. Parked at scenic world and walked down in late afternoon following the furber steps walking path, being muggle free at that time. Finding cache was difficult with poor gps in the area and weird clues in logs that dont make sense when you find it. I think Chuzes log will be the best to read for future searches .Tftc
Joshwa made the elusive find,. Log wet as, so put a small bit of a receipt nd signed that. Gz for us was just down the 1st set of metal steps, past Furbers lookout on a sharp turn where the best view of the sisters is. Start counting the rock steps. Tftc
Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green] and [navy]'Australia'[/navy], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url]
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands [8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]
During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:
Chapter 32: [red]Sydney[/red] and the [blue]Blue Mountains National Park[/blue]
Our second day in this country...time to visit one of the famous national parks near [red]Sydney[/red] [:X]
Of course we were looking for some interesting caches in this area
This multi cache was one of them
Unfortunately the coordinates are not really good: three spots could be the start of the counting
Therefore we needed some time to find the right place...and then some more minutes to finally find the cache
The logbook is not usable anymore
I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,

Here from NZ visiting friends in Blackheath and decided today that an early morning visit to the three sisters was on the cards before the tour buses arrived. Sneaked in the Silvermist reserve cache and then off down to the three sisters earthcache. Only met two other couples one that was gasping and recovering on step number 100 on the way up. Decided that we still needed data at echo point which thankfully was deserted and then moved on to Scenic World. Happy to get day concessions we rode the skyway both ways and on the way back spotted people down on one of the lookouts near the given coordinates for this cache. Looked far too tough. After coffee we rode the incline rail down and walked the long boardwalk loop returning to the top by the cableway. After some lunch we still felt ok so decided to do this cache. A quick read of the description and the thought of only 77 steps seemed fine. Oh yes 77, should have read the description more closely! Many many steps later we were still nowhere near the startbof the 77 but enjoyed the detour to the base of the falls and some spectacular vistas from various lookouts. ( even met three Juliets at Juliet's lookout) finally arrived at the start and duly counted 77 steps down. Lots of evidence of interference with the adjacent area most likely caused by strange people searching for something . Had to endure a lot of people coming and going from both directions but after about 20 minutes and a gap in the traffic I spotted something that didn't quite fit. Whoohoo.......problem solved. The logsheet was quite damp but after a bit of additional drying time it was writeable. Initials only added and returned as found. We then decided to continue down and took the incline rail back to the surface. I'm sure my legs will remind me tomorrow but thanks for the challenge and thanks to little blue hen for the perseverence.
Well worth a favourite from both of us.
Well worth a favourite from both of us.
I think bkj97 said it all. Will post a couple of photos when I get back to NZ as we don't have the technology with us on holiday. I will be interested for someone to identify the snoozing creature asleep near the cache. ( the photo wont help solve the challenge) Worth a favourite from me.T4TCSL
Unfortunately, we were not able to find the cache. The gps coverage was not so good this morning, because of the cliffs and the thick fog. But the walk down was very nice!
TFTC we looked on our way down very certain of a find. After some time looking we gave up. Our plan had been to catch the cableway back. This was not be we walked back up. After a short time we found it.
When I was younger I used to jog down Furbers Steps and up the Giant Stairway. Those days are long gone. To find the Cache I had to slow down anyway. A Favorite! Tftc!
While heading to the Wander in the Wilderness Event as part of the Geocaching NSW a group of us headed up Furber stairs with the aim of finding this Multi. The cliffline was playing up with the GPSrs and it was hard to pin point where we were supposed to start counting the steps from (to). Some of us were counting on the way up, and some who had gone past where we thought it should be were counting on the way down. Eventually got to a suitable spot, and one of the group saw it. Okay, at least it was found. And we put in our initials only as the scrap of paper won't last too long.
Should be able to book mark this for the Challenging Cache elective.

Reperio at 1220.
Found this one in the company of Bella, Sol, Grahame Cookie, and Webguy junior as we made our way up Furber Steps after walking down the giant staircase as a part of the Geocaching NSW walking event. We expected this one to cause some trouble given the steepness of the steps, but after working out the likeliest spot to search, the 6 of us got to work...and 15 mins later...the cache was found leaving us wondering how it took us that long to spot it. The walk up Furber Steps is magnificent...and one which I will certainly do many more times I'm sure.

Found while out on a walk from Echo Point down the great staircase and around to the bottom station of scenic railway with a group attending the NSW Caching Event today....
After deciding not to catch the scenic railway back up, a small group of us headed up these steps and arrived fairly close to the posted co-ords. We then set off back down the requried number of steps and the search was on. Took a good 15 minutes I'd say, even with the 6 sets of eyes that were there, but eventaully the little hide was spotted. All 6 cachers initials were entered in the log and we then continued our climb towards the top and over to the event.
A neat little cache that had some great views and great exercise all thrown in together. Thanks to MV, GC, 2 x B@W and the other cacher whose name escapes me at the moment (apologies for that) for the company, chat, good humour and the hunt.
Thanks for the cache bshwckr.....fav point for me.

At least I managed the terrain. But after half an hour looking I gave up. Was to nerve-recking with too much muggles on the narrow steps. Maybe I'm still too kiddy.
10am before the crouds. I found this one on my way to the earth cache below. It had me stumped for a long while. I was questioning myself if i was in the correct spot. There wad no view from the GZ spot, so I could not confirm I could see the three sisters. You confirmed it was here a few weeks ago so I looked harder. Eventually touched it, aha you little sneaky hide. I cannot see how SnapHappy1 can say cache condition is fine. The log was a lump of paper. Took the old log and replaced with new paper ( much smaller size though). Will be good for another 15-20 logs. TFTC bshwckr
Made the find whilst enjoying a holiday around the Sydney's North-shores and Katoomba for a few nights... Been a few years since I have been here... Fantastic to get back
Wow... What a walk... I 'walked' down the steps today, gathered the required information & headed to GZ and after a bit of a search, I had the 'log' in hand... Thankful that I didn't have to climb up these steps again, I spent a few hours in & around Scenic World... A great day out and a couple of caches to boot...
Thanks for bringing me here...

Nice little find, was an easy find but did some work to get it! Tried this on my own last night - was sketchy! Realised co-ords were no good and that daylight would be better.. Early rise and no muggles.

Found while away geocaching with tmann421. Thanks to all the great hiders out there that enabled us to see some fantastic views & places in NSW. Sorry for the late logs but it will be Xmas before I catch up
Another good find with TuisReturn
We enjoyed touring around the area finding caches
Unfortunately quite a bit of rain here.
Followed the instructions but still took a little while to find the container
Log in poor shape and raining when we visited so couldn't do much
Could do with a replacement log
A great area to visit.

Stepped down Furber Steps on a rainy day in Katoomba, found the obviously best lookout to the sisters, stepped down another 77 steps.
We ended up on one of the metal staircases with a perfect place to hide, but couldn't find anything.
Still in place?

Enjoyed our 2 hour train ride from Sydney into the Blue Mountains this morning and headed to Scenic World. Went down the steepest train track in the world and walked along to GZ. Mrs Tparty wasn't too happy about climbing steps today, so I decided to attack it from above once we got back up top. A very interesting walk it was, dropping down sharply along the cliff face. Spectacular views. Found the lookout as described and stepped it out as accurately as I could. Spent a little while searching before it hit me in the face. Of course, I overcomplicated the hide. Couldn't find much of a place to sign the log, but did so and left before any muggles passed by. Greetings from New Zealand. TFTC

This cache has been on our list for a long time but were concerned with the amount of DNFs. We chose this beautiful sunny day to launch our attack. It was with great joy that we found this cache reasonably easily. Unfortunately the log is falling apart and just about unwritable. The log definitely needs to be replaced. Very cool cache.
I so much wish that I had a better GPS then a shit garmin êtrex. Could not be certain of the coords but managed to find the little bugger on the second try. Not fun but with 2 steps then a rest. (Not quite) the going didn't seem all that hard. Also gave me a chance to dry the record sheet out a bit. Tftc

My first multi - great spot, thanks. My co-ords were a little out but I figured I had the right spot by your description. Soon found the cache and just had to keep a lookout for muggles. Just had to use a 'slow hand'
I did the echo point->prince henry cliff walk -> furber steps - federal pass -> giant staircase loop by torch & moonlight last night. I did a quick cache check on my descent - the cache was just where it always is, with no impediments.
I didn't check the condition of the log itself, since there were muggles nearby (ascending via the glimmer of their phones).
I didn't check the condition of the log itself, since there were muggles nearby (ascending via the glimmer of their phones).
Will get up their this week and check cache. Cranksters, I have deleted your log as you must have hit the wrong tick box by accident. This will allow you to log the DNF. PS Good effort on BGs. this is always hard on the knees no matter which way you get there.
Add us to the DNF list. We found a very promising location but no cache. Still we were entertained by some very noisy sulphur crested cockatoos so it made the stop worthwhile. We did the walk from Echo Point down the Great Staircase and up Furber Steps, so we climbed plenty today!.
I am sure I have found the right spot. When I sat down on the 77th step I looked left and saw this perfect hiding place at eye hight but it was empty. It sure looked like something had been put down there in the past. Still an amazing view on the Three sisters and worth going there.

Unfortunately our day started with a DNF. We have been a bit unsure if we have found the right jutting part of Furber Steps but the one we have assumed to be the correct one was the most obvious. After descending 77 steps we we searched in every possible place but did not find the cache.

That was easy. The cache is in good condition, but the log book is full and ragged. TFTC.

We only had a short time to look for this before catching the last bus, so I quickly ran down here, counted steps, and searched all of the potential hiding places. There were plenty of perfect-looking spots for a cache, but I didn't find anything after about 10 minutes of searching (at which point I had to run back up the hill).
Had a bit of search for this evil little cache - but in the end I had to move on as I had a long walk ahead of me to ruined castle - Was just to tired to look again on the way back.
Our event group came all the way up from the bottom of furber stairs. We got to "the correct step" and started the search. I can't believe it took us so long to find, but it was a quite an easy cache to find in the end. The log took just as long to return back to the cache. TFTC.
Last find on our great walk today. And not even the easiest one! With 11 pair of eyes looking we still managed to overlook this one. Doubted the counting but that turned out to be right in the end. Unfortunately the log was wet and full!

Took us far too long to find, but I blame our being tired from the earlier trek and adventure into the mine. Didn't sign the log due to it being waterlogged but Team Webguy took photo evidence as linked in a previous entry. I'm the dude at the back.

A lovely walk. Crowded today. Had difficulty finding WP1. Started counting steps from the wrong WP1 and ended up short. Patman kept going checking as he went and came up with it in the end. Lots of muggles requiring us to wait them out as they struggled paat. First non-magnetic nano ive seen. Log was wet and unable to sign. TFTC
My first and only multi in OZ!
Nice round trip with 3 muggels.
8 eyes see more so we find this.

Found it first time today after a long long search! The steps are not too bad and it is an excellent walk with fantastic scenery. The cache site has great views of the valley and waterfall.
The log is still too wet to sign and is very full, unfortunately we didn't have any new paper on us.

After Jonnosan checked up on it, I just had to go back and try again. But I had to wait for a dry day when I had the time. Also I wanted to get some photos of the sisters in sunshine so it had to be late afternoon. And the pattern lately has been for an afternoon storm.
Departed from the top just on 18:00 so I expected to have the place to myself, but as luck would have it came across a backpacker at the pointer. Chatted to him for a while then sent him up while I went down. He was going to go down then around to the next stairs. With Giant closed, that would be Golden - a hell of a walk in the dark.
Log was quite damp so I ended up damaging it a bit getting it back into its container. Next visitor might like to bring some nano sized paper to replace it.

The sun was shining this morning so I went out for a walk down the Furber steps. The cache is fine, the views magnificent and the walk back to the car very steep.
THere were two potential starting points for the count. I used the top one but there was nothing likely here, so I adjusted the count for the bottom start. I found where others had clearly been before me, but the cache itself eluded me. A great walk though. Because I am a cheapskate (gotta save up for a new GPSr!) I walked down Furber, then along and up the GoldenStairs. A great day out, but only one find to show for it.
Today we went hiking in the Blue Mountains. We walked down the Furber Steps and really enjoyed the views and the wildlife (lots of cockatoos ).
Along the way we tried to find some geocaches. Unfortunately we didn't find this one. We think we found GZ, but the cache itself remained hidden. Thanks for showing us the wonderful Furber Steps though!

I had a hint from the CO and went for another look on Sunday, which was unsuccessful - then I got a big pointer from a previous finder so went back this evening and finally found it. I actually think recent weather events had rendered the cache particularly hard to find but in any case found it on my fourth attemp. Thanks for the exercise!
I had another look at this after finding the new micro at scenic world. It was quite late and very drizzly so I had the area to myself while I did a pretty through search of the area. I think I will need to ask for a clue before I make another attempt.
Whoa - steep uphill with GK on the shoulders = great training. TFTC bshwckr. GPS a little skitty at the obvious GZ (if you know Furbers and can pinpoint the photo provided) but it was overcast and about to pour. 77 right on. Didn't leave a note because we forgot our pen, but we dared not get the log out by the time we found it, it had begun pouring rain anyways!
I was hoping to celebrate my 50th find with this, but was not to be. Am pretty confident I was at GZ and searched for 20 mins before making the big climb back to my car.
Searched and searched and searched some more...even got caught by a park ranger but no luck on this one. I'm sure we probably had our hands on it at one point, but alas, it was not to be. Better luck next time w/mikeflood9.
Great location and a great hike though

Nice walk down and back, lots of muggles but not at the cache area today. Signed log and replaced without any issues. TFTC bshwckr

It took us more time folding the logbook back in than searching for the cache. This is a really nice hide - we loved it! So obvious and yet so invisible!

Last time i walked these stairs I hadnt even heard of caching so today it nice to return and do it all again in the name of caching. Its good to see the signage and the like has been upgraded.
I got my start point wrong so I was looking in the wrong spot but that was my fault for not reading the description cause once I referred to that the cache was soon found in the described spot.
Having done the logging proceeded down to the railway and for the easy way out.
Thanks for bringing me back to this top spot.

This was my first Aussie cache, and what an great one to get!! After much longer of a trek to GZ then expected, I finally got to the cache site, and searched, searched, took some pictures while waiting for muggles to go by, searched... I was getting way frustrated, until I realized I was looking in the wrong direction. And there it was! Thanks for the cache and the great views!!
Found! I've been down -- and up -- the famous 'Furber Steps' twice in the past week, and am very, very pleased with this log! It's been a special experience and one of my most memorable geocache expeditions.
Due to the encouragement and gentle redirection of the CO, I persevered through difficulties and even managed to replace the old weathered log book with two fresh new sheets.
Finally, I checked on the published coordinates at WP1 and have suggested slightly more accurate ones. (However, you'll no doubt find that the WP1 starting point fully accords with the COs description, even if the original coordinates were a bit off.)
This is a beautiful walk and I recommend it. Walking down is much easier! You can return to the top via the Scenic Railway (at a cost of course). I drove ten minutes over to Katoomba and did it all -- twice -- for free. Will upload some photos of what I saw. Some nice young people I met took my picture with the old log book and I explained to them about geocaching. Perhaps we'll have some new 'converts' to our hobby.
Many thanks to bshwckr for setting up such a challenging cache in a very beautiful place.

I attempted to find this little cache on my way to and from the 'Katoomba Torbanite' EarthCache, but my efforts were ultimately in vain.
I'm pretty sure I found the correct 'jutting out' place that 'points' to the Sisters, and counted down 77 steps from there to a very likely place.
However, despite more than half an hour of investigating dozens of nooks and crannies, I came up empty handed.
The 'pointing place' I started from was, however, more than 16 metres off the published coordinates. But it was the closest to the coordinates of any other spot on 'The Steps.'
Anyhow, I think I found GZ, but will write to the CO for feedback. There's a lot of walking involved in this one, and I transversed the famous 'Furber Steps' in both directions today -- and then some, because of my repeated efforts. It was a good walk with extremely beautiful views.

Log book is damp & previous logs have faded and stained the paper.
impossible to sign even if I had remembered a pen

The co-ords were 16m off the first landmark, (using Blackberry Storm) but the description was spot on. Count down 77 and looked in the obvious spot and the cache was in hand.
I believe I got lucky & can understand the high number of DNF's. This has been one of my favourite caches where location & cache style come together to give the searcher a great deal of satisfaction.
Didn't have a pen but took a picture of the log. (which also shows that it needs to be replaced)

Gutted! must have spent at least an hour counting, climbing, descending, waiting for Japanese photographers! Mr Lizard on the stairs tried to help but no joy. We didn't have 100% accuracy and found 2 spots which were very close to the starting point... we might have found the elevation in the clue helpful! That said, the amount of water that has obviously slowed down these steps over the last week or 2 may well have swept this cache away....... Thanks for a great hunt anyway!
After visiting our son at the Australian Jamboree we headed to Katoomba for some sightseeig on the way home.
I headed off early this morning to nab a few caches before meeting up with the family to do the tourist bits. This cache took a while to locate TFTC.

We decided to walk down the the bottom of the railway for this cache then railway it back up. We really enjoyed the walk- plenty of people out and about too. We got to GZ and after much searching high and low we were just about to throw it in. Eba said keep looking and shortly thereafter the little cache was spied. We had to wait out some passing muggles but then the log was retrieved and signed. Certainly needs a new log and perhaps slightly bigger sheet. TFTC and a great walk.
Was getting late in the day and although we enjoyed the trek down, the trek up was a little exhausting!, Great exercise none-the-less. Unfortunately the battery went dead on the gizmo about halfway down. Will definately give this one another go, the views were awesome.

Found with imgettingannoyed and our muggle friends visiting from the UK, Hannah and Dom while showing them around the Blue Mountains.
Great little cache, although not quite what i expected. lovely walk through the stairs and into the scenic railway
the log is extremely full and needs replacing

Love the great little nano. One of my favourite walks in the mountains. If only because you can get a lift back up. Though is a muggle rich environment. I must have the best tied laces in the mountains. Thanks for the excuse to see the amazing witches leap again. Heard a lot of lyre birds in the mist.
I think I would have found this one, but I was in such a rush to get back to the tour bus that I only had about two minutes to look. It was a good workout to run all the way down and back up to the lookout where the bus was parked.
Very original! Great spot, great walk! Greetings from The Netherlands and TFTC!
Found the starting spot easily. It is the obvious spot.
Now to be able to count to 77. Only missed by one. (My eight year old got it and found it.)

Enjoyed this one whilst in the Blue Mountains with school friend from 50 years ago!
Miscounted first time got it 2nd time then had no pencil--age.
Will need a new log soon.

Great start for our Blue Mountains Tour! Thanks for the cache at this cool location!
First cache on our great tour through the Blue Mountains. Dellaert demonstrated that relaxing and looking around might be helpful to find a cache. Thanks for the cool trip.
