TFTC from the Kayakviking!
Found on a recent road trip. The walking track is an excellent find and we had it mostly to ourselves. Ms J spotted the hint and I quickly did some mental calcs to hone in on GZ. Cheers KV

On a read trip thaking the long way, the Bylong way to get home from Newcastle. We had a few nice stops in selected locations and discovered some really great spot thanks to the caches!

This was one of these magical places we would have just passed by if it wasn't for the cache. We drove in no problem with our low 2 wheel drive and started the hike as suggested. The view from the lookout was phenomenal and a great start, the path is a bit washed out coming this way at the start but not long and it is a proper path for the rest. A great canyon whiach was great to walk in.
Finding the hint took a little but Wilma eventually made the find and from there it took Dino seconds to come up with the goods! Grwat big container too! We continued the round and got more great impressions of this wonderful gully. What an memorable and magical hike. Thank you so much for showing us. A big FAVpoint for this great cache.

Thank you bshwckr for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Great to finally tick off a bucket list cache, keep driving by at the wrong time of day to stop.I had no idea that there was anything west of Denman when I started caching 10 years ago, but now I'm often out on the western Bluies all through the winter! Firstly the photos on the page give this place no justice, you've got to come and see it for yourself. Just think, it's a rainforest in a canyon 170km from the ocean on the 'dry' side of a mountain range. That's so cool! Today it was just as wet as day somewhere like the Watagans, full of vines, ferntrees, figs and some super old mountain gums. Headed out early on the trail to the lookouts first and then down the valley. Found the tag at the base of the tree and then the cache easily after. There's a great side canyon here too, the best bit is only a 3 minute walk from the cache, gives you an idea of some of the creeks in the bylong area. The gorge from here got better and better, the boardwalk through to the sea of ferns, the towering trees and cliffs and the final narrow canyon that leads you back to the top.

A must! TFTC!!!!!

Weekend trip to Rylstone June 2021. I joined with Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK for a drive to Rylstone and the surrounding area for a long weekend of caching with a Community Celebration event as the final goal on Saturday. We also did some caching around Oberon on the way and a day on a loop via Mudgee & Gulgong to visit some older caches. On the way home we stopped in at Newens as well. A cold but fun weekend away.

Today was the loop drive. We were way too late for this one, but we headed off with one torch between us. We arrived in the lower canyon right on dark and the search began. I looked in lots of spots that seemed logical, even though the closest I ever got to the original co-ordinates was 25m. I was happy to find an updated set and gave them a go. This took me well along the stream and a new area. Even here I struggled and we had given up. Fitzy had even started the return walk when I looked around one last time and was amazed to see the cache just a few meters way. We were so happy to finally find it, even though we had to walk all the way back in the dark.

Thanks for the cache bshwckr

Headed north with fitzy_1965 and albida33 for the June long weekend.

Headed through Oberon on our way to Rylstone for a Community Celebration Event on Saturday. A loop north above Rylstone on Sunday to pick up some older caches and then out to Newnes on Monday before heading home. Found a nice spot to set up camp for the two nights. Super cold on the first night but was more frosty on the second….go figure.

Day 2 saw us up and away reasonably early on our loop out from Rylstone. After doing the drip walk, we decided to try this one but was a bit late in the afternoon. Regardless, we headed off but only had one proper torch between us. Was a bit hairy in places but thankfully came back out with a find thanks to albida.

24,876. Found with minniek and albida33 during our 2021 June Long Weekend trip up to the Rylstone region.

Heading north on the 2021 June Long weekend to the Rylstone region for a Community Celebration Event, some Adventure Labs, and a few of the surviving golden oldies caches of NSW. After a cool night camping at Rylstone, we headed off on a clockwise loop for today's caching adventures. Our next stop was this cache. After spending a bit of time at a nearby DNF we arrived as the sun was nearly down. Deciding it was still worth the attempt we plunged down into the quickly dropping darkness. It was a real struggle looking for the cache, but persistence and a bit of luck led albida to make the find - phew ! Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off through the darkness for the walk up and out. It was so good to see the car again.

Thanks bshwckr !!

Find #2751
We're on the road to Mudgee today for a weekend caching and to attend a Ceilidh in the Country. We left Newcastle in pouring rain with our fingers crossed, luckily the rain had dissipated apart from a few spits by the time we'd passed Singleton, so it turned into a beaut day caching, with 14 finds, 1 trig and 2 DNFs....
We came by here a couple of years ago, but my son baulked then, today we were on the track. I was expecting a good walk, but this even impressed the usually cache-grinching Oliver, who was then on fire wanting to cache all afternoon....
At the bottom we struggled to find the cache, chasing the GPS around, wary it was a random-number-generator down here - it was getting pretty dire for calling a DNF before finally the hint object appeared, then the problem was - 'which way is south' as the GPS compass was struggling as badly as the GPSr circuit itself. Spotting a spot that looked promising, I investigated and the cache appeared, with a huge relief. ... We took a coordinate for 5 minutes, maybe it will help, maybe not?
Cache contents well protected by the quality container. As we were rehiding a pair of muggle walkers appeared, asking 'is that one of those geocaches?'. We exited via the lookout - another awesome spot. Thanks for the highlight of the day bshwckr.

What a great place to walk. We’ve been here before but I forgot to find the Geocache then.

Beautiful walk in. Lots of rocks to navigate but geo 4 yr old managed it fine, and the 100 steps were over very quickly. GPS had us all over the place and we walked 50ms of track only to go back to the path for me to try and get our bearings to try again. Whilst waiting for GPS to settle geo 8 yr old yells 'found it'. GPS still said we were 40ms out at the time! After signing the log my phone gave that beautiful ping to say you're within 10 ms. hahaha. Yes it finally decided I was in the correct spot. Geo 8 yr old kept his eyes open whilst I spent to much time focused on instruments. Never saw the item in the clue but thankfully we got lucky! Great place to come and explore.

Wow what a lovely spot. Enjoyed the walk to this one. Out with my bushwalking club and i was leading the walk so they had to wait for me to grab the cache. An easy find tftc

#3,906

This was the standout cache of the weekend. We actually considered not attempting this one, not being sure how much time it would take on our way home.

The car GPS did not know about the road out to here and just gave up, but bikerbuddy had the track marked on his garmin. I was expecting the track would be rough, but it was actually in excellent condition. We got to the parking area, admired the mud brick toilet, and signed the visitors log. Then we picked our track.

It didn't take too many steps before we were descending into a magical canyon. It was easy to picture sprites hiding behind the ferns as we approached. This was one of the nicest walks I've been on for some time.

Eventually we ended up near GZ. My GPS said we still had about 30m to go, but we knew coordinates wouldn't be of much use down here. So we used the hint, walked over to a likely area and instantly spotted a suspicious area. Cache was unearthed quickly after that.

This is how to do caches in areas which you know will be problematic for GPSs, and where the environment is sensitive. Give a good hint and make it a hide that is easily recognisable to other cachers.

Logging duties done, we debated our route out. We decided to complete the circuit, and started back to the car.

Thanks, fantastic cache, a favourite for me Smile

To think, we almost bypassed this cache! This was the best cache of our weekend and a favourite from me.

Our car GPS didn't know about the narrow track out to this area, so it just navigated to the nearest spot on the highway and said we were on our own after that. My Garmin GPS, however, showed a track in, further along the highway, so we decided to give that a go. We wound down the track to the parking spot for nearly two and a half kilometres and parked.

We walked the circuit in a clockwise direction. Either way would be fine, depending on how people want to experience this. I liked the way we went because we were in the canyon and forest almost immediately, so we spent our walk towards the cache along a pretty magical looking path, walking downhill to experience it, not up. From the other direction you would spend most of the walk towards the cache along the drier, more typical Australian bush section of the track, and then if you turned back that way you'd miss the best part, or if you continued on the circuit you'd be walking uphill for the nicest part.

As for finding the cache, we had no trouble. We expected the GPS to be dodgy in this area, so we used the hint to help us, which was spot on. Finding the cache took about 15 seconds.

We continued along the path and eventually hit the stairs back to the car, and then the choice of two paths. I only had one marked on the GPS, even though signs said either track would take us back, so we stuck with the marked track to complete our circuit.

Thanks for showing us this magical spot. It would be well worth coming back for a second look.

Silly old Temingi didn't look at the clue until now . So spent about 20 mins trying to get GPS to tell me where to go. Looked in the general area but no luck. Still thanks for showing us this interesting canyon.

These are the type of places that I love to visit. Followed the track in the anticlockwise direction as suggested and was soon at the first junction.
A quick side trip to the lookout to see were I was about to go, back to the track that heads down into the gully. Once at the bottom it was more like a dry canyon than a gully.
A lovely walk with some scratchy reception on the GPS but soon found the item in the hint and a minute later, the cache was being extracted from its hide.
Cache is is perfect condition as are the contents. Signed the log and as there were a few other cars in the car park, I didn't linger at the hide for too long as I had only seen one other person so far.
Continued on through this magical place, with the memories of the other similar canyons I have done coming back.

Thanks bshwckr for showing me this place.

Came prepared with a measuring tape (mad), found the sign then did the measurements but didn't do me any good. I could hear people everywhere but no body turned up which was just as well I guess, would be hard to explain. Used the compass on my GPSr so perhaps lead astray by that so checked the position of the Sun to verify. Spent a good hour looking everywhere except where my GPS pointed as that was well over 10 metres from the sign. However thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the bush & the gully & highly recommend it.Thanks.

Found it on second go. Could not believe we climbed all over this one last time and didnt find it. This time however is a different story. Compass is a very good idea considering gps reception is quite poor due to enclosed area. At one stage was +/- 40 odd metres.
Top find. Took DVD and left 2x yoyos

We wish we had printed the clue before we drove to Fern Tree Gully! Maybe we were too eager and over confident! We searched high and low at the bottom of the gully, but had no luck using just the GPS.... Hopefully we have better luck next time!

This would have to be one of the best walks that I have ever done as it has everything going for it. I have to agree with the other finders about the location and the cache contents. The gps was all over the place so had to use the hint and the sign to find the cache.Tried to get it out one way but had to remove it from the other side. Rehid with the rocks and some sticks to cover the container.NI-NO thanks bshwckt for the cache and the chance to visit this amazing park.

Very early this morning I found meself on the trail of this musical sounding cache Smile
As I arrived in the picnic ground the sun had barely shown itself and the breeze was ear numbingly cold.
My fingers and toes were also numb with the cold Razz
I checked out the mud brick loo first. What a work of art Smile
Then it was off to find the cache. Down, down, down I went into the ferny grove below.
It was even colder down there [:o]
But what a beautiful place. The ferns and creepers lent an eerie feel to the place in the dull light Big Grin
I ambled along slowly taking in all the beauty of the place and completely forgot about the cache for a while [:o]
As I reached the steps I remembered that the cache was down below and had to backtrack a bit Red Face
With the correct species identified the cache was easily found without trampling this delicate area [^]
TFTC and taking me here Big Grin

On the spur of the moment drive and just on dark we passed by this way. We decided to just 'pop in' and grab the cache - warning a little disorientating in places in the dark.
VERY weak reception at GZ, but found easily enough with the clues.
This is an awesome area that is well worth the visit.
Thanks bshwckr.

A cool and cloudy Anzac Day saw us in the Rylstone area for a spot of caching. We’d been to this particular place before but hadn’t actually done the walk on that occasion – can’t remember why. So it was that a short drive off the bitumen brought us to an empty car park and we set off on the stroll – anti-clockwise as advised.

It’s a very easy walk, initially through open dry bush which gives no indication of what lies ahead. In short order we came to the steps and down we went to find ourselves unexpectedly at the bottom of a dry canyon. It was then a delightful walk through the canyon with the sandstone walls rearing up on either side. Many of the shrubs and trees had been helpfully identified and tagged which was a nice touch.

About half-way we came to the cache location. Although reception was not overly great the hint makes for an easy find. (Fret not, you don’t need a degree in botany to figure it out).

The whole walk has been very well constructed – excellent track and well sign posted and we thoroughly enjoyed doing it. If you’re in the area you really shouldn’t miss out on this one. We took some craft flowers and craft horses, leaving a packet of small karabiners and a sewing kit. Thanks bshwckr – excellent cache.
