Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

In the area and headed up to check out the view. Great looking out from the top. Come on Alnic, it was certainly worth it, and you were so close.

Thanks for another trig...

Maryborough has been on our radar for quite a long time and the annual CVGT event was a good excuse to make the trek south. We ventured home via Maldon specifically for this trig point and a nearby GC Earthcache.

Found with members of the MajuraHathi party and the Stefanovich party while on a visit to this incredible site for enjoying the wonderful view from up there. Photo taken of the trig marker, but also ascended the newly renovated tower as well. Thanks for the fun this afternoon, my first GCA for quite a while, found at 15:30.
Cheers

Love these trig points and the awesome views they bring. This is no exception.

13-Nov-16
This was the high point of today's bushwalk (in terms of altitude) in terrible conditions but due to the effects of the rain on the camera, it would end up being one of the last pickies that I'd get before the camera shut down for the day. Shocked Thankfully I got the shot at 12:30 though. Unfortunately the views from the tower above weren't what I was hoping them to be thanks to the low cloud. Oh well, can't help the weather. Wink

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Grabbed while enjoying the view and hunting the nearby GC cache

Found on our caravanning and caching tour of the area.

Can't believe it has been 46 weeks between logs. A virtual drive by cant get any easier than that. Enjoyed the climb up the tower but hazy today.

Found by Team Ladava around 1.45 pm on a glorious Winter's day. With showers forecast for Melbourne the better half of Team Ladava made the enlightened suggestion of "let's go to Maldon" so after enduring some solid rain around Macedon we ventured into the sunshine north of the divide.
We had visited this location a year or two ago to find a nearby cache and done the obligatory climb but it was a very pleasant excuse to return to log the trig.
Took the required snap, enjoyed the views once again and we were on our way.
Our thanks to GCA and especially c@w for the cache and bringing us back to this location.
Cheers

Found by Roma and Max.
We were just down the Mt on another geo mission this afternoon so took the opportunity to log this one as well.
Had to use our phone for the confirmation photo!

Couldn't resist an Historic Hillclimb venue, although in November it's usually much warmer. Many great days here watching classic machines ascend the hill doing just what they were built for - well mostly. Today the mist at the top prevented any decent vistas, and it was COLD.

Found by The Empire @ 7:55am with tackle_head
It was soooo cold up here this morning! We made it all the way up the tower, hands nearly froze to the rails but we made it all the way up the tower! It was a clear morning so plenty to see and take photos of. Thanks for another trigpoint!

What a fantastic view from up here...but we declined the big walk to the top of the tower.

15-Feb-11
Was up here doing a cache near by.

26-Jan-11
We enjoyed the view from the tower which was great on a clear sunny day.
The disk was easy to spot and the history boards very interesting.

Passing through the area and thought we'd included this location on our visit agenda. Couldn'd find the actual Trig Station but did find the disk, so we guess the actual Tower is high and prominent enough to be seen from a significant distance. It was amazing to see the transformation of the near by Cairn Curran Reservoir.

11-Oct-10
Found the GC cache Tower of Gower nearby and also logged a locationless "Lookout, Where?" Nice morning.

14-Aug-10
Oh it was cold and windy here today but the kids and Mr Morris still climbed the tower. We couldn't actually spot the trig bit but the survey marker is there. The tower is for fire spotting so maybe its up there.

07-Dec-09
Found 11.15am
We have been to the top here before to find the nearby cache, it was great to return to now grab the Trig too. Thats one very big tower and Mrs Keeper only managed to get a bit of it in the pic.
