Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

So today was a Plan C! I originally wanted to visit an Earthcache that’s been on my list for far too long but the track is closed due to storm damage. So I activated a Plan B which is a location of one of the many Trig points I have noted not yet published on GCA.. turns out that area is also closed for the same reason. Okay then, let’s go West and have a drive around D'Aguilar National Park and the nearby dams, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in that area.

Cool and wet weather today, perfect for me haha. Not so perfect for the lookouts up here though but I’ve seen the views before. I arrived at GZ and was alone which is how I like it. Duties done now time for lunch and coffee. This location will do.

Trig is on top of the tower. Disks are still present, thanks for the cache Smile

Having been for a trek to Palm Gully with NyssaFlutterby and Wombles&Co plus a couple of our geokiddies, we were on our way home when Nyssa mentioned this trigpoint. A short detour up here and Wombles and I tried to get some rather poor selfies due to the position of the sun - with camera pointed right at the sun it was hard to see any face in the photos, so eventually we both decided to take a photo of the other person, which seems to show who we are a little better at least.
Thanks for bringing us up here Geocaching Australia.

With a beautiful day upon us, I decided to hit the road with my munchkins and go for a drive. We soon found ourselves on top of Mt Glorious enjoying the cool mountain air, the birds and a yummy afternoon tea at the cafe.
With our bellies full it was time to head to the summit and discover this Trig Point. Pulling up at GZ we easily spotted the Trig way up high, even though the sun was badly positioned and making us squint.
I took the best photo I could with the awkward light.

Thanks for the smiley Geocaching Australia Very Happy

We were hiking and caching along the Northbook Mountain Ridge and came across a trig with survey marker. So we quickly did a search on GCA (we had excellent phone reception on top of the mountain Very Happy ) only to find the nearest trig was 5km away - as the crow flies - over in Mt Glorious village. So we took photos and moved along.
Then later as we drove towards the village we couldn't resist taking a little detour up the hill to this one. Very Happy Glad this was a drive-by Clapping To be honest, we were so knackered after our hike earlier today we're grateful it is a drive-by.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.

The things you do for your team for Summer Scavenger series....This would normally be a nice day trip on a weekend, a picnic and bushwalk stop at a few lookouts, find caches...but no, I raced up here after work scared outta my wits to drive up here in the mountains on my own, Pray but I did it, a couple of times I wondered if I was on the wrong road, Think not a lot of signage to reassure you that you are. Think Drove through from The Gap up the mountain past Jolly's Lookout into Mt Nebo kept on driving driving driving, yay Alex Rd that's the one I want!!! Found it!!!! So attached is my photo and Seeka our summer Mascot dog who loves to go caching. As others have said before me..it is fenced off...I am actually small enough to slip through the gap in the gate, but because it said it has surveillance cameras I thought no not being a rebel today...the drive here was enough of an adrenalin fix. So photo session done and it was back down the range...stopped off at a few places, took photos of the Mt Nebo Primary School, they had a lovely dedication to Anzacs in the front grounds with a nice Plaque. Then I called in for a coffee at this little place that had all these beautiful birds and you could hand feed them. Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, King Parrots and Lorikeets, the man in the shop gave me a cup with some bird seed in it to let me feed them. DancingLaughing I played with the birds for about 20 mins...I love them. Go Phoenix Team Clan PhoenixClan PhoenixClan PhoenixClan Phoenix..Then continued my way down the mountain stopping at Jolly's Lookout for some photos, feeling on Top of the World!!!. She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes...she'll be driving an old white camry when she comes...hahaha TFTC Geocaching Australia Clapping ..shame it had to be a rush job for the Games. Found while out and about with Lokipagan.. an interesting drive to this spot indeed. As Lokipagan mentioned, a large fence blocked out path to the actual TP. TFTC Smile

Quick stop while heading out to Wivenhoe Dam. As per other logs, TP is behind restricted fencing so image taken from as close as we could get (26m). Thanks Smile

Another quality *FTF* by Penguiny, accompanied by Little Penguiny, at 1440hrs.

After a nice drive up Northbrook Parkway, we stopped off at the base of the Trig Point. Unfortunately, the Trig Point is on one of the communication towers located up at The Summit. The security fences mean that you can only get to within about 10m of the Trig Point, but the Trig Point discs are easily visable.
