Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I saw this trail of GCA caches appear about a month ago and have wanted to attempt it for quite a while. It ended up being a relaxing 3.5 hour drive around the country side. It’s nice to have a couple more GCA caches with a Big Grin on them. I found a few different dinosaurs and other different types of hides. All caches found today were quick finds and were left at its current location for the next finder to move along. Today’s finds also included a few Trig-Points finds. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring joy to me and the rest of the caching community. TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

On a return from tenting at Temora for a few days ...

Off the Olympic Hwy for a short scenic run up dusty roads ... Rock Lodge is aptly named, sighted as it was in its rocky surrounds. Private lands, from the fenceline, vanes and mast can only be sighted.

Found 3:20pm with LuckyL10n. I was out on a caching run with LuckyL10n and his partner and friend. We were doing a large loop to grab GC and GCA cache, CORs and trigs. The trig was hidden a bit more than others and again private property seems to surround it. Had a photo done with the GPS. The weather was quite crappy when we stopped here.

#GA694 - 15:20; I had sown the seed yesterday with the geohoney that we should go for a Sunday drive through the local countryside and perhaps collect a cache or two along the way. An itinerary was then hastily arranged and the geohoney's friend and MrDamage confirmed for the tour. We had picked up a few caches by the time we reached Young, including the trig near Boorowa, which saw MrD and I get a little damp. It was nice to reach Young for a couple of easy drive bys. This one wasn't quite so easy and the geomobile got a little grubby on the wet dirt road. Managed a snap from the intersection as the weather was a bit too damp to try to get closer. Dropped into this one just on dark so hard to grab a decent photo. No farmer escorts, so a pic from the locked gate on the maintenance track.

On my last trip north there was not enough time to stop at Cowra, so I decided on a day trip. When I listed all the caches between Young and Cowra I had quite a list I could try to do. So off I went. Thanks.

No farmer around for my visit, but the trig is easy to see from the road....a little way off, but I've seen worse.

I'd seen this one on the map but hadn't been down to find it. There's a road within 250m and I got a shot from there but saw the gate was open and the farmer working nearby. Asked him if I could go up and he said okay - said blokes came to work on the TV repeater regularly so the gate wasn't locked. A well painted and maintained trig. Saw the name of the trig was "Rock Lodge" so amended listing. You can get a shot from the fence anyway so don't need to enter - I was lucky to get a chance.
