Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Awesome little hike along the Yerrabi Track which takes us all the way to the top of Boboyan to the trig. A nice area for some Namadgi views. Trig is quite old no doubt with the original vanes and mast still standing in their rocky cairn. Eldest geokid has the GPS in the pic. We had good weather today to boot. TFTC.

A nice weekend with the family in Namadgi and this was one of the hikes we did today before driving back home. Great walk to this peak. Very windy today! Found together with Dino and Pebble and Wilma.

On a walk with Walking For Pleasure where we completed 3 short hikes that totalled 10km. This was the middle hike, and I couldn't miss the opportunity to snag another trig. This walk would be absolutely wonderful when the wattles are in bloom. Magnificent views just past the trig & no doubt many other caches to find, but no time today (just this one). TFTT.

An easy-ish walk up to this one with views that were only marred by rain coming in just seconds after the photo was taken. Thanks for including this one.

A wonderful walk through all the wildflowers. Stunning views from the trig. Definitely worth the visit.

Have been up here precaching days. A local Native plant group were also making the stroll today. I may have gone back to the car with less plastic than I started the trip with.

Found with jusojara. Good to see old trigs like this one. No view up here today but great to be up here.

Grabbed today with Ju and mr-roo on a very wet day.

Found while doing the nearby earth cache.

GCA 526 - 5084. Another Trig which I have visited previously.

I visited this trig on 2 August 2009 when I walked passed it on the way to Tankengine's Earthcache "Boboyan Batholith". My log included...

"Walked up to this one and was suprised how quickly the climb went. Passed the sad looking Trig and found the site for the answers."

Photo added on a return trip 09 Sep 12.

TFTC !!

So went for a walk with some mates from work up this track. Turns out this is a really nice walk. There was a group of people surrounding the trig when we first got up there so we continued onto the torrs. While there at the torr we meet an elderly couple who were part of the NPA and actually helped to create the track. They seemed pleased that there young people who were out enjoying some of what namadgi has to offer.

Nice summers day, went for a walk on the Yerrabi track with girlfriend Sarah and her mum Jane. Pleasant walking, at almost 1400m nice and cool. Took a few photos at the trig then went on to visit the Granite Tors nearby, great views. See http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/28972/Yerrabi_TrackA4_webversionJan2011.pdf for details of this walk.

A lovely Winter's day made for a great hike up here today. The track is clearly marked, but quite steep in parts - really got the blood pumping.

Awsome views from the top though made the trip worthwhile.

Another trig logged after being up here a few times. Logging a little late as I now plan to visit as many trigs in the ACT as possible.

Photo attached.

I Agree with Squirrels comments below (+ a few extra comments of my own)
When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, (Digital cameras did not exist)and visited many trigs whilst caching. I also visited many trigs BEFORE geocaching even existed, when I was riding my Mountain bike/s in the 1990's, so all recent finds.
I actually visited (HAD TO) this trig point on 4/10/2008 chasing the cache "Boboyan Batholith". Though, I have visited it earlier, 1995 on my MTB just exploring, and August 2004 caching with my brother. Picture attached from the 2004 visit.

From now on, I will definitely be carrying a camera at every trig point I visit. I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, and visited many trigs whilst caching.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the beginning of 2007. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

I actually found this trigpoint on 6/12/2008 after a really enjoyable bushwalk in the company of Captain Tomato to find the earth cache "Boboyan Batholith". Well actually we found it before then but don't want to give anything away
