Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Was with SeabreezeOz when we visited this one. We had done the Holland Track with Team Red Roo and some other cachers, but parted ways once we left Coolgardie yesterday morning. Great views of the surrounding area from here. Thanks for setting it up for us to come and find Geocaching Australia

Holland Track Adventure
This trip had been on my 'Wish List' for some years
The problem was Logistics
I had to get the timing right...…….So many Variables!
Weather
The best time of year is after winter to avoid the very worst of the cold and wet, and before the weather gets too hot in summer
We were very fortunate to get nice warm sunny days and mild nights with no rain, the track was mostly dry and the deep mud puddles could easily be skirted around on dry tracks
Company
I did not want to tackle the track on my own as my vehicle is not fully set up for hard core 4 wheel driving, no winch or high lift kit which would be advisable, especially after rain
Luckily I found a group of other geocachers who were planning to tackle the track and I quickly agreed to join in the group
Today was the day
After spending many hours the previous afternoon removing all my work tools and other stuff out of my vehicle and packing in all my camp gear, I was ready to go early in the morning
Stopping to fill up with fuel on my way out of town then continuing on to pick up my passenger Mistraluna
While we had discussed a rough plan of finding caches on the way to Hyden I was not prepared for the coming adventure that this day would prove to become
Luckily we had all day today and tomorrow to get to Hyden where we would meet up with the other members of our party
On the way we stopped to top up with fuel and headed for our first cache of the day
From the fuel station we drove east to Pinjarra then on Pinjarra - Williams road, through Dwellingup, continuing east until we reached the power line road just past East Boundary rd. We made a left turn here and started heading north
The road was quite good and I did not need to use 4 wheel drive
I was thrilled to see a great number and variety of wild flowers along the roadside which I had not seen before
Our journey continues

Day 7
An early start to the day as usual, quick pack up the camp gear then off to find out first cache of the day
After finding some caches at the nearby Lake Lefroy and a trig at Mt Thirsty
Sadly it was time to move on as we still had a great distance to travel and time was limited
Next stop was nearby to find a trig
This is technically not a trig, there is a marker in the shape of a pyramid with the markings NM, F, 670, and a benchmark symbol
I assume NM to mean 'Navigation Marker'
I have no idea where this would be recorded

03-Oct-18
Found this trig while camping the Granite Woodland Trail.

19-Dec-16
After finding the other Ant Rock TP I stopped by to find this one as well.

13-Aug-16
After climbing the nearby big lump of rock and finding an trig point up at the top,
which is not listed on GCA ... yet !!
I headed along the road for a few k's to find this roadside marker Very Happy
No brass plaque to be found,
just a little mound of broken concrete surrounded by a few posts to protect it Smile

Well a trig point is a trig point.
so photos taken,
I claim this TP in the name of geocachers everywhere Clapping

This is effectively not a trig point as there is no structure above the point, and there is no definitive point (like a survey marker)'. The point was found just south of the Hyden/Norseman road close to the Victoria Rock Rd 'T' junction. There is a survey marker of form at the point but I have my doubts that it is 'official in the GA sense'.
