Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access via McKays Road, turning off at S41 57.575 E147 52.076  into spur MS4 then taking turn to the right at S41 57.317 E147 51.434

Follow this road to a yellow boom gate...should be ok in 2wd when drier. The adjacent Fire Tower will be manned during the summer months...if so...say hello and you may get an eagles eye view of surrounds.

On a car camping and peak bagging trip in the area with our bushwalking club. Very easy and short stroll to this one from the boom gate. Quite like this more open dry rocky terrain over this way.

"Thank you for the cache.

I came up to find two trig points this was the second one.
It was a lovely drive as per the instruction to the yellow gate from there it was an easy walk up to the trig.
After taking the required photos at the trig I climbed the fire tower to get a few more photos.

Hi
Woke early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep
Sainted this one at 1045 hours with a quick find
Finding this cache was a great experience - views are great but would have been better without the mist in the distance
The country drive was most enjoyable
Drove 476 kms for the day, 8 caches which required I use 10627 steps to walk 8.02 km while burning 1435 calories
A great day out
TFTC and cheers

With the high likelihood of another hot day, we set off from home at about 6:15am in very clear and fine weather. Near Lake Leake we drove into very low cloud with the occasional drop of fine rain. After having found "GCN9NQ Too Steep To Log?" we drove to within 250m of this trig point along a quite reasonable forestry road - bit lumpy in places but, at an appropriate speed, easily driveable in a 2WD. It was a slight uphill walk, past the fire tower, to this trig point. The low cloud was just lifting from the higher areas but was still hanging around in the valleys below. Hence, the views were not that great today. The required photo has been added to the Gallery showing two images: one of us standing next to the trig point marker; the second of our GPS next to the trig point mushroom. TFTC

Good one. We drove by 4wd from Royal George. I wouldn't advise this way uless you are a very keen high lift 4 wheeler. Using Memory Maps 1-25,000 Tas Maps with the right navigator GPS we would still be there if we didn't use them. So many tracks winding through the bush here with really specks views looking down onto the Avoca to Fingal valley. Some bridges washed away just gone. Tracks at time just solid rock very interesting. Very rocky and large wasouts on very old logging roads. Made it to the lookout, hide a cache near car park then took the easy road to Meetus Falls. wonderfull tower with views. Snow Hill well it was not snowing but cold that day Easter Sunday 2012

Our 3rd trig today, a fairly easy walk up a gradual hill and we were at the trig in no time. Misty so view not great our last cache for the day.

Last trig for the day as it is now past 8.00pm
Got to the gate and wondered what the slope of the terrain was going to be like (had done Mt Nicholas trig and feeling a bit worn out).
As it turned out, it was only a slight uphill to the fire tower and then along the slabs of rock to the trig. A nice end to the day. Now for the drive home.

Eventually found my way in as above. Walk in from boom gate only 5 min or so. Cloudy today...but still good views. Another very enjoyable Trig cache...TFTC GCA...Cheers.
