Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
Official Code: TS1174
Official Name: Brooklet
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Access: This trig is on private property, and permission will need to be saught from the appropriate landowner. Ask at retreat reception starting what you are doing.

Olivia Newton John was co-owner of this property once, but I’m not sure who owns it now. Seemed to be closed today.
Good views up here over the coast and a sliver of views down south too. Nice to have finally made the effort to cross this one off the list.
A quick diversion on our route back to Byron, and we were heading up the hill towards this one. We parked on the side of the road and walked up the lawns. What a nice spot.... the trig is pristine, one of the prettiest around especially with the views, well worth a visit....
I’ve just left Ballina (love the lighthouse!) and I decided to give this one a go. Like Ravenclaw2480, I veered left up the side road. I parked near a fence then walked up towards the clearing. There was a groundskeeper doing his thing and a few people around but no one took too much notice to what I was doing. When I jumped out of the Geo-Van they all looked over but I briskly walked up the path towards GZ and ensured to look at my watch like... it’s okay onlookers, I’m important and I’m late for an appointment… nothing to see here haha. I stopped for a second to say hello to I think a groundskeeper and asked how his afternoon was going while looking again at my watch then hands on hips. He said all was good, I said that’s great and I again briskly moved closer to the Trig. And the Academy Award goes to wayn0 for his role as a Trig-hunter in ‘A Plan-B Adventure’.
Finally at GZ and alone Time to slow down and take in this serene location. The Trig is complete and in great condition. There’s even a nearby bench to sit on while you admire the surroundings. It really is a lovely place to be. Even though this Trig is on private property I’m recommending this one. A fine complete Trig in a fine location. As long as you’re quiet and respectful I see no issue to visit this one. In hindsight I think it would be better to park outside the entrance near where Frenleigh Road meets the long driveway, bottom of the hill on the left. Walking up from there will only add a few minutes and you will attract less attention.
Thanks to No_Tomorrow (Now_To_Morrow) for unarchiving this one and thanks for the cache.
It is very scenic and peaceful; with a concrete pedestal, plastic pole, and black painted semi-circular vanes. It even has an intact name plate, announcing: Central Mapping Authority, Geodetic Station, Brooklet. Found @ 1945.
Am waiting to hear back about any chance of getting up the hill to check out the Brooklet trig and the views from there.
