Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Drove up as close as I could to GZ – did the short scramble close to trig – once I was here my 1st thought was WOW what a view – this trig must be a must for others to log. Once here you will understand why. Thanks.

Found on way to border. Was an awesome view and a great little climb on the rocks. I think the nearby goats may have thought we were one of them up there as they kept calling toward us. haha.

South Australia 2013 with Sol de Lune. We headed off on 12/4 and arrived home on 28/4. The trip was to visit the SA series so more time could be spent at the Mega itself next year. We did a huge variety of caching around Murray Bridge, the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Whyalla Region. Apart from one wet night and two wet days we were able to spend heaps of time caching.

One of Plenty of trigs we saw on this trip. I hope I get the right picture on each trig.

Thanks.

One of many many trigs found by Albida and myself while on our 2 week trip to, and around South Austrlia.

No problems with the gatets so we headed up to the tower and then climbed the short distance to the trig itself. Yep, great views.

Thanks for yet another trig.....we managed just over 30 for the trip.

1450 Was on my way out of Broken Hill when I saw this trig station up on the hill. Investigated the gates, and they had no No Trespassing signs on them, as there was no signs at all. A bit of a climb up and took some nice photos, which I will download when back home from the roadtrip
Will increase the Terrain rating from 2, to 3.

The best 360 degree views we've come across this trip. Lots of goat and sheep poo around. Went through two gates as per previous log. The first wasn't a problem but the second had three locks on it. Was going to reverse back when we realised that the gate was only linked at the back and could still be opened. The sign on it didn't say you couldn't go through, just to please shut the gate.

Have passed this one many times sitting up there on the hill, had a bit of time today, drove up the road to the testra tower through two gates and was rewarded with some magnificent views and the trig only a few meters away on an outcrop of rocks, a FTF for us today
