Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This one popped up on the radar along the road today so I stopped by for a look. Once parked, it wasn't long before I was at the trig and taking the required pickie at 10:00.

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Travelling to Cunnamulla.
Stopped here to take photo.
Thanks for TP

This is a beauty. No trig, just rocks and a survey marker. Still good though.

We thought we had this trig in the bag, then we found another 80 metres along. Going by co-ords and previous finders pics, we have found this and a previously unpublished one nearby.

Another find as we travelled south from Cunnamulla after a wonderful event based in Barcaldine. Second trig I found today like this. Thanks for the cache.

The trig is the bright yellow block over my shoulder. It has three yellow pickets around it, and is pretty easy to see from the road.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1469. Found during Day 19 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another trig for the trip. We were now heading south and east again, and we managed to get to this trig. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

#GA1603 - 13:45; Day 29 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. Today we are headed from Charlieville to Nyngan via Bourke and a few small towns in between. The caching was light north of the border today, but was now becoming a bit more productive to the south. This was the first of five trig finds for the day. Next one over the border and another pile of rock with pole markers. Photo in the bag and all good.

Similar to the last trig.

An easy find. Tried to clear away the dust with a stick but had to resort to my hand. Thanks.

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of Mainland Australia.

A driveby trig is always good with a caravan in tow.

North Qld 2013. One of several Trigs and CORS on my 5 week journey west and North.

WanderingAus wandered by with the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) on day 110 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, after 11 weeks in Darwin and a couple of weeks meandering across and down we were finally heading out of Queensland into New South Wales.

There weren't so many trig points popping up on the gpsr, and a lot were either too far off the road or not near an easy pull off area, so it was nice to stop and find another one.

This one is the remnants of a cairn surrounded by a circle of rocks.

Not one to get into the debate on what is a trig and what is not. As far as I am aware and have understood a trig is a metal disk thingy that stands on something. What I am finding is that a pile of rocks seems to be more common in the country and as I found a survey mark and a indicator pile of rocks a find will be on this one. If this is not within criteria I will delete my log. FTF
