Description

Madden New TS2929

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Madden New.

Serial number is: TS2929.

Last Inspected on: July 11, 2000.

Elevation is: 409 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

26-Aug-18
Found whilst out in the area doing a trig and cache run

19-Aug-18
I rode past this one twice, then trusted the GPS to take me to it.

11-Jun-18
Out with fitzy_1965 to take advantage of the bonus points on offer this week.

Having solved most of the Princes Highway Puzzles, they were our main target today. All were found quickly & easily unless otherwise mentioned.

Made a few detours for trigs too. Certainly a long walk to pick up these four trigs....all so different.

GCA 2,075. Found during a run down the Princes Highway with minniek today.

Having solved 21 out of 22 existing puzzles in the Princes Highway Puzzle Series we headed out for a run today to grab as many as we could for a last day grab of bonus dZ points. Next find of the day. A bonus Trig along the way.

TFTC !!

I was down from Taree to find a few more Waypoints, and a few more Trig Points, so stopped not too far from here, only to find out when I got to a radio tower that I had the wrong coordinates in the GPSr, and had only found a similar tower, the other side of the Princes Highway! Eventually got here @ 1556, but there no sign of a yellow plastic post. But at least the name plate was still there!
Then went on to find the OLD Madden trig.

17-Feb-16
On a 'gong escarpment trig road trip with rogerw3.

A short walk on from Madden to a communications tower compound with Madden New partially hidden in the surrounding enclosing bushland ... despite a bright yellow mast it still required a penetrating peer to sight - and little space for a the photo. Worth the walk.

17-Feb-16
Out on a Trig hunt with Whitemushroom.
An easy find in the end even if well hidden by the new growth. Bright yellow mast and white vanes makes it rather unusual.

3rd of the 4 in the area.....and nice to see it still in place...complete with name plate....

07-Jun-15
I was impressed by the huge radio relay towers next to the trig. I didn't expect there to be a building under it, one for each.

14-Jan-14
This Trig is not hard to find, park on the Old Princes Hwy and follow the track towards the Telstra Towers. The Trig is in good condition but it is very over grown, but it is not far off the track.

03-Dec-11
After our Dark Side of the Moon expedition to Stanwell Park we thought we'd grab some nearby trigs. This one and its near neighbour mean a lot to us!
This one was in excellent condition with everything in place including a plaque. Interestingly the top plate had "Surveyor General" instead of the usual wording which I've forgotten for the moment.
Track in is a 4WD basher track, we encountered one vehicle before we headed around to the old Madden trig. There's a sealed road just past this trig which must have been for the mine once.

11-Feb-11
Just a quick detour coming home from Stanwell Park. I was surprised about the location given the fact there are some huge towers very nearby!!

25-Jan-11
A quick detour on the way home from Uni.

27-Jun-10
Found this well preserved trig at the end of a long day of walking along the escarpment. The comms towers nearby have a lot of microwave transmitters and receivers on them. Lucky I'm not planning on any kid's any time soon.

26-Jun-10
After some kilometres walking around the Illawarra escarpment, this was the final find for the day.
There is some lovely bushland walking closer to the escarpment that is worth doing but this Trigpoint is an easy walk from the nearby main road.
This trig seems somewhat unique in that it doesn't have much of a view! Most tend to be at an obvious high point where this one is dwarfed by the massive Telecommunication towers nearby.
