Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

i think i parked at the same spot as a number of earlier loggers and had a 600m walk in. actually i had a longer walk because i wandered a bit. i am here just a little early in the season, wild flowers look to be almost ready to bloom, it will be beautiful in a couple of weeks i reckon. TFTC.

Today i decided to tackle some virtual type caches around town. i usually prefer physical caches but i have had a really enjoyable time finding trig points, virtuals, and history ones today.

I almost gave up on this one, as I arrived early with not much light. I had a 600m walk and was not confident. As I drove away, I saw a car-sized trail. I drove up a bit and decided to walk the last 400m. Took a few wrong turns, but eventually made it. Really enjoyed this one.

managed to drive as far as a felt comfortable which was about 530m from the trig. followed a path so that I knew where to find the car but realised it wasn't going to line up with the trig. went off track until a day the rise and up I went to the trig. now to find the car again

Drove to about 600m then easy walk upto the Trig Point.

Great day to try and get trig, we were not sure of the best approach so just let TomTom guide us. Seems the GPSr got it right this time and we drove quite close. It was difficult to see why a trig had been placed here as e could not even see much of a hill, but as we walked closer we could see the slight rise to the top. Not much of a view from the top but still enjoyed the walk.

Nice easy peasy walk during a lunch time pit stop again..
Ad I found a poor lonely little sign. middle of nowhere. how wierd might do something with it.

24-Apr-11
Found easily after a nice walk through the bush.

23-Aug-10

Took the car a little way in here then walked the rest. Interesting spot but not much to see. Worth a visit though, nice bushland.

11-Mar-10
Found after a short caching expedition to Inglewood. Mr Morris managed to drive right up the top with some narrow escapes. Not much of a view with all the trees but trig is in good condition.

Found by Roma and Max.
This was our 2nd Trig Point find today and this time with a full team compliment.
We approached to within 300m of GZ in our 2wd and proceeded from there on foot along a well defined, gently sloped bush track, to within 80m of our destination where the terrain rating of 2 on the web page aptly described our final approach.
The published co-ordinates were spot on with a 0m GPSr reading as we stood over the metal disc.
Another interesting geo achievement for this team!
Thank you Geocaching Australia for the experience.
From Romax.
