Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Elevation: 1231
PID: 2948652

Access: There are multiple options to get to this trig. The quickest way is to park at S28° 15.519' E152° 27.919' and walk up along the border fence to the final cliff section. From here follow the base around to the left until you get to a chute like structure at S28° 15.153' E152° 29.230' where you ascend to the trig. It's easier than it looks. No ropes required. About 6km return, allow 4 hours.

I had Wilsons Peak on my to-visit list for a long time. I recently got to see it after a trek up Mount Superbus. It sure is a prominent feature of this area! I discovered that a GC Event was to be held at the summit, sooooo, it's time!

The Event was a Saturday morning so I left work Friday night and drove to the starting coordinates arriving at 1:30am. Some of the event attendees where already here catching ZZZZZs. I cracked a beer and read for a while before getting a few hours sleep. My alarm went off and my soul began to hurt haha omg. It sure was a cool morning! A hot coffee helped fix that issue. As the morning progressed more geocachers arrived then it was time to proceed UP. It was a steep walk but the fence proved advantageous. I used it as a climbing aid more than once. We noticed some nasty plants along this route. At about 3/4 up there was a section where I could see Mount Glenie, the site of last week's adventure. The cliff face was reached and we followed a footpad around it to the left until a chute structure was seen. A pink ribbon gave us confidence that this was the section to start our final climb. This ended up a lot easier than it looked. It was a simple climb up with lots to hold onto and good footings. At the summit there is a survey mark and old cairn remains. A GC traditional cache is also up here and a nice place to sit and admire some views towards Brisbane. After photographing the trig point, signing the trad and enjoying lunch with geo-buddies I snuck away to see If I could see the summit of Mount Clunie..... aha there you are, I'll (hopefully) be seeing you soon!

The decent was an easy one and helped by the fence. A bunch of the group wanted to continue caching so I joined them. This was a great start to the day, thanks for the cache Smile

Well, what do you know, this was an unexpected *FTF* ... Which I am quite happy to share, if my fellow walkers wish to claim the find on this Trig Point.

See the logs on "Woodrows Cap" for a full run down on this climb... but suffice to say, this is one epic walk/slog!!

Thanks GCA!!
