Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Suggested Parking Coordinates are as follows.

The name of this cache has changed from the former name "Happy Go Lucky Area" to “Pearson- Walhalla PM 45”.

Found at 14:15pm

Chose the track to the right which is off the main-track. (Refer to gallery photo of track intersection with an arrow).
Walk along this track for a couple of minutes and then turn left into the scrub and the trig will be within 50 meters.
The trig may not be visibly obvious from the main track due to regrowth, but seek and you will find.
Very Happy

I keep a couple of databases in my GSAK program, and one of those is the GCA trigs, to which I have added the 'Groundspeak' Waymarks. Seeing that there was a trig and a Waymark so close to other Waymarks of Walhalla gold mining town I thought I would have a go at it while on holidays. Glad I did.
I hadn't updated this file, so it looked like it hadn't been found again since "hi pressure" in January 2010, when he got the info for the Waymark I was hunting. From my log on WM821T:
"Drove up past the sign saying "Blocks For Sale", with an arrow pointing in the direction I was headed!
Couldn't find a good place to park, so left the Dualis in the middle of the track and bashed my way up through thick and WET scrub. Could hardly see the trig until 5m away from it. So it made it hard to get a good photo.
By the way, I went on to Find "Marks Hill" trig point, so will try to add that one for this area.
Thanks hi-pressure" Found it @ 1540, Sunday, 8/5/2016
Found a rectangular steel plate under the trig, +/- Survey Marker ?!?

We headed to Walhalla to visit the mine and grab a few caches. We followed the instructions from dankpig and located the trig. Unusual to find a trig without a view. Could hardly see the trig for the trees.
