Description
Lyalls Inlet - Koo-Wee-Rup PM 73
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Using the web-based "Survey Marks Enquiry Service (SMES)", the details for this trigonometric station have been acquired.

Photo taken from the highway as we weren't overly confident in the parking for the campervan.
Loved the beached boat nearby.
Thanks.
Found on our way to visit Grandma to claim the high jump event in the geosportz competition. One of the few drive-by trig points.
A typical 'Victorian trig', with 'water pipes' except that this is a 'Tripod', and not a Quadrapod, like most I have seen south of the border. The four black vanes are not semi-circular, but rather a 'rhomboidal' shape, and braced against each other.
Also took a photo of the survey marker underneath the trig. Very Victorian!
- Look for "Cardinia Creek Sign"
Second stop was another unloved trig....and a drive by at that. No problems and the required photo was soon in snapped.
Our 1st find with the new toy.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.
A very cold winters morning so a quick stop to snap the photo and get going again.
Its amazing that this area is so flat that the top of a creek bank is the most prominent place to put a Trig.
Thanks to me for hiding this cache here today. Mr of The Mini Mob was with me as we headed to Phillip Island and when this one came up, it was a quick stop by the side of the road to snap the picture then we were on our way.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks to Geocaching Australia for listing these caches for the enjoyment of the whole community.

GAFF 1
I been past here on several occasion and noted the trig marker. I was on my way down to Phillip Island today, so I thought I might as well stop off and get a picture so I could log it.
Driving past, we thought we could stop and get the quick snap of this trig point. Very cool, near a stream with plenty of people fishing.

Found on my way home.
Looks like a great fishing spot close to the trig.
