Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

So I’m continuing my GCA Trig Point finding journey today. After solving a nearby GC puzzle and finding the cache and then visiting an interesting Waymark, it was time to try to find this tree blaze.

It looked at a satellite image and saw what looked to be a street coming off Sandy Creek Road at S 027° 45.948' E 153° 13.218' I think this is actually just a driveway for the surrounding businesses. I parked at the end and was less than 200m away to GZ. I then proceeded to take a short walk up a hill and found the prize! No bush bashing, just some long grass on route. I love finding these things. I wonder if the person who carved this was nerdy like me and enjoyed their job. If yes then I’m sure this person would be quite chuffed about future nerds gaining joy from looking at their work long after they had gone. If no then he or she would think we are all crazy haha.

There’s a bunch of native bees here beeing themselves (did you see what I did there?? I know you saw it.. Mr. Green ) I always like watching these little guys and it’s great to see them in the wild.

I had better get myself to work now, lucky I’m only a few minutes away..

Found it, one out of four for the day! Don't know how much longer this cache will accessible,. It is nearly surrounded by industrial property.
Drove up new road with no name & asked workers for permission to access. Laughing

Caching in the area with whitewebbs this was one of the trigs we found. Managed to find an access point to this trig and make the trek. An interesting blaze on the tree.

Well this is a trig with a difference - and a limited life span I'd say. I found what looked like the closest way in, and said hello to a local resident who had no issue with me climbing this hill that is quickly being boxed in by industrial buildings. Found the trig tree without any issue and took the obligatory photo. There's a native bee nest in the tree - it's interesting to watch them come and go. They stood boldly guarding the front door to their nest, but as they don't sting, this was the best defence they could manage. I enjoyed this trig.

Noticed this trig would fit into the States of the Nation competition but wasn't sure if there was still access because of new development in the area since the last find in 2012. Found what was likely to be the original access but to keep going would have taken us to a private residence. Walked to the top and found the old marker on the tree. Unfortunately with termites living in it this vintage marker won't be there for too much longer. TFTC Geocaching Australia

I have quite often thought about looking for this TP ever since they were listed but never seemed to have time. Today I had 30 min to spare while I was in the area.

I did a circumnavigation of the area looking for an easy access and eventually found a dirt road into an industrial area off Sandy Creek Rd. This left me with a 250m walk up the hill. A couple of old barbed wire fences to cross and I arrived at the spot.

As fathrtime said there is no tripod there but the tree with the carving is good evidence of the location.

Photo attached.

Really interesting Trig point to visit. While the metal trig station and disc are no longer found at the location, there is a very interesting carving in a tree obviously relating to the Vertical Control Point (As it has the symbol of a VCP as per a topo map!).

For this reason I chose to log this one as a did not find instead of archiving it as someone else may find this interesting to visit.

Access is via a track off Peachy Rd, Luscombe. The entry is not gated and the track should be followed past the dumped rubbish for about 500m before turning left on the uphill track to the summit.
