Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

What a way to finish the year! This cache was on my list for the scavenger hunt and thankfully it remained unfound during the tournament. I was freed up from children thanks to Daddy Long Legs which allowed me to make the 40km drive out this way; using the new Christmas present Navman to navigate somewhat unfamiliar roads. I came as far as the local winery/restaurant well as I've been there many times and considered hosting my wedding there. Then the roads became unknown and somewhat treacherous - two wrong turns, two gorgeous single-lane wooden bridges (one week too late for the scavenge!) and a fallen tree to navigate around and I made it to the turn off sign. This is where I became the luckiest cacher around. My little 2WD VW Jetta would NEVER make it but to my amazement, there was my caching buddy Suzibound in his Suzuki 4WD sitting at the sign!!!!! He permitted me a lift up the HUGE hill because he was about to score a DNF on the GC multi up there. In the end, it took some time but we came away with two finds each and big smiles. TFTC Geocaching Australia! What an adventure. Clan Phoenix

Made the trek up the hill to find the nearby CG cache today, decided that whilst we were here we should log the trig too! Had left the garmin with its flat batteries at home and was just using my phone to cache with... bugger! Now what do we do? Since the phone was doing double duty as gps and camera, there was nothing more to do than get one of us in the pic! So as proof of our visit, that's me (mrs 2max) in the photo. Speak to the Hand

Pretty damp up here today, decided against taking the 4wd up the final 500m climb to GZ.. those ruts, holes and washouts were just a bit too wet and slippery! Probably would have given it a crack in drier conditions. Mr 2max's mum has an old family photo that was taken up here in the 1960's - I'm pretty keen to ask her to dig it out again now so I can compare the view!

Walked to this TP with colldier and lna after first attempting it in the Subaru and deciding to turn back after seeing the huge holes in the track. After living in the area for decades, colldier was pleased to finally make his way to this location. Views were mainly blocked by trees, but there were a few glimpses of the horizon. Great to cross this one (and the GC multi nearby) off our list of unfound in Gippsland. Cheers!

Got 2 for 1 while compleating the Angus cache nearby. Was told by geowife that I won't be driving the work ute up THAT hill haha. A cold and sometimes showery day. Ridden dirtbikes around here plenty of times but never been to this point.

Completed this cache whilst doing the 'Tom's Cap - Angus McMillan' cache (GC21AWX) two metres away. A lovely spot with views of water to the south.
