Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Chauffeuring a friend to a memorial service on a beach meant I was in range of some caches with time on my hands...
This was my main target for the afternoon... it seems that every time I've been in this vicinity, something has prevented me from visiting this Trig Point. On such a fine afternoon, I parked in a side street nearby, eschewing the local council's daylight robbery, and walked the tracks to the carpark this is situated near the end of.
Now, what fun is there to be had nearby?... aha! a pier to play beneath.

Back in Victoria and this trig was on our unfound list so remedied that today. Got to love a drive by cache.

Thanks for another trig....
Too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Not able to get right up against the point without trampling the coastal vegetation but only one metre away.
Enjoyed the walk out to the end of the breakwater and learned a few things about the local area today.
Very relaxing. Thank you.
Grabbed this one to the sound of classical music! An elderly lady and gent were sitting in their car enjoying the view and the beautiful day with the window down and their music turned up.
Glad it didn't take long as classical isn't really our thing.
Thanks.
Geocaching Australia.
Great day for a walk along the coast, started at sandringham and just walked for two hours, collecting caches along the way. The name picnic point reminded me of a place anong the Murray river I once visited. I think this is only my third Trig Point Cache. Nice spot on the coast
Thanks Geocaching Australia
There were some great views of the sun setting from GZ.
A lovely evening to be on the bike.
Find number 9 out of 35 today. Haven't been to this part of the bay in soooo long, very nice place to come for a picnic but it was too cold and wet for that today! Check out my TNLN hoodie!

Was here a while back with friends with their dogs on the beach near the yacht club.
I always enjoy the drive home around the bay.
Cheers Gordo

The view from the tp is excellent - a great place to visit. The kids went down to the beach and dipped their toes in the water while I walked to another nearby cache and back.
Terrific location.
Well, what can you say about this TP other than it's a beautiful area to look out from and that it's a complete driveby. I parked within only a few meters of the cache and then stood back so I could get the whole TP in the picture with the GPS.
Great blue skies and blue water today along with the heat in the air and the cool breeze off the water made this a very nice cache experience indeed.

I just happened to be heading down to the SE suburbs to visit family today so, when I did a routine check for closest caches and noticed all the new trigpoint ones were now online, I checked out which ones were close and spotted this one near Sandringham Yacht Club which was less than 1km form where I would be traveling today. It turned out to be extremely easy to get to (if the car park is not full, you can park less than 20m from it) and would be rated as 1/1 using the usual rating scheme. It wasn't the sort of marker that I've been used to seeing, but the co-ords were precise and there was no mistaking it. I would have liked to see if there was a "plate" at ground level next to it, but there's a lot of vegetation growing around the base and I didn't want to disturb it.
