Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Back in Alice finding trigs not found on our last visit and this was one of them.

After Sol de lune spotted the trig, which I didn't, I rechecked my photograph, and there it is Rolling Eyes. So I did manage to photograph the trig Very Happy.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1348. Found during Day 1 of my epic visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs today and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

First trig for the trip. We managed to find the right road in and spotted the elusive marker behind the fence. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

#GA1480 - 14:50; Day 11 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and albida33. After a night at Kulgera, we hit the road early to get to Alice Springs for lunch and then to prepare for the Red Centre Experience Mega. We had arrived in Alice Springs, collected a few caches as well as fitzy_65 from the airport and were doing a little late caching before heading back to the Mega site for some socialising. We went on a bit of a drive through the Desert Knowledges Centre to get there, but we finally arrived near GZ and managed to spot the trig through the fence. Thanks

1st day in Alice for the Mega and this was our first trig. Arrived at the fence as Golden Wattle mentions and could see the marker on the ground a few metres away. Photo's attached and all was good.

I couldn't see a trig, but then there was a fence and I couldn't get any closer. My GPS was showing 7 metres away. Perhaps there could be marker under the gravel, or shed. I claiming this one as I got to the fence and within seven metres. Nice mandarin tree covered in fruit.

I don't think this one exists or is accessible, but am willing to be corrected by someone with more local knowledge. It's a very flat area surrounded by trees.

Driving in takes you into CSIRO property and the carpark is about 200 metres from GZ. I didn't feel that comfortable going for a stroll to check, then again the locals up here are friendly and laid back enough it probably wouldn't have been a problem.
