Description

Hinchinbrook TS2486

The official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Hinchinbrook.

Serial number is: TS2486.

Last Inspected on: September 15, 1978.

Elevation is: 124 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found on a morning walk and finding some nearby caches.

Finally got to this one.

On a cache run with phlphotos and JJCC in the area. After picking a Red Plum, we walked over to grab a photo of this trig.

This trig has become popular because of the Fruit Trail series as you get close enough to walkt to GZ. There is a hole in the fence that you can drive a car through & the area has been cleared so unlike the originL photos.
Came here with teamMerlin and Splitty Miller JJCC while we were doing the series. A bit of a walk to get to the ridge tgen a flat walk directly to the trig.

Completed some of Rainbow Spirit fruit trail caches & then completed this 1, I’m wondering if people have been camping up here as it has been cleared close by. would be a good view at night, it’s good that this 1 hasn’t been vandalised and is in good nick, enjoyed the short walk up here from the main trail, thanks. Quick detour from the fruit trail path to find this one. Scared of the rusty fence, however a part big enough to drive a car through allowed me to get in there without needing a tetanus shot.

25-Dec-15
Parked in Robey Ave where I entered the park. Followed the pathway and it was about 1100 metres to the trig. I came to the electric fence and could see the trig about 50 metres away. The fence looked in poor condition so I walked along it in both directions for about 100 metres and found no warning signs that the fence was electric or any other signs about not entering. I found a suitable part in the fence and climbed though with out any problems and made my way to the trig.

If coming to this Trig make sure to check the fence and satisfy yourself before going further.

Trig number 6 for today's Trig hunt with pjmpjm.
We were able to drive very close to the trig with only a short bush bash to the top of the hill where we came the electrified fence with brand new barbed wire on top, We did not try to find out if the power was on or not on the fence so we settled to take our photo from 59 metres away.
This trig may possibly never have had a mast and vanes, the top is fitted with a cap over the mast mount.

Finally reached the area with rogerw3 after a bit of a walk. You can find an entry from Robey Avenue.

As reported by TC, you'll eventually be stopped by a barbed wire fence. It may also be electrified. (We didn't touch it to find out!)

So we shot our required photo from 59 metres away. Didn't realise that it had been so long since it was last logged and that we were 2TF.
Concrete pedestal itself and top plate was all that was left of this old TS. Vanes long gone and plate souvenired.

850!

Was only able to get within 50m of this due to an electric fence.

Hope the photo shows enough!?!

The Trig Station did not have the top on it, it was just a base.
