Last Inspected on: November 24, 2001.

Steel post with mast and vanes.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

On a camping trip at Glenworth Valley with some of eldest geokid's muggle friends this w/e. Nice spring weather. Today's activity was a hike up to Popran and then maybe up to Emerald Pools but we only got as far as Olive Mount where we found a trig and then had some lunch. Most of the others didn't want to keep going after that so we just headed back to camp. The trig is in average condish; the pedestal is ok with instrument mount intact but the vanes are on the ground, albeit right near the pedestal. The trig nameplate is actually attached to the vanes which I've not seen before. About 7m to the south-east, an older set of vanes and mast is rotting away. Looks as though it's been here a long time. A great spot up here - we could see Mt Yengo to the north and could see the Blue Mountains to the south-west. This is a really nice walk, highly recommend. TFTC.

I was out caching around Mangrove Mountain today with Mighty Minions and Team737. We stopped off at this trig on the way out to Peaceful Popran. Many thanks for the listing.

This trig point was a quick find after a walk around Emerald Pools and down to Glenworth Valley. Two Trig points here, one old wooden post that was presumably on top of a rock cairn and one newer steel post, neither in great condition. Vanes on the ground nearby. We forgot to take a picture at the start of the walk so Dad had to go back up the short hill on the way back to the car. Mum and the kids decided to head straight back to the car and ran into a big snake back on the fire trail which they weren't too happy with. I guess that's karma for given in early.

We had just completed a great loop walk through the Emerald Pool, gathering the information for the multi there (recommended), and were on the way back to the car, and were sure to detour up for this trig. There are the remains of two trigs up here, pity both aren't listed...

I'm new to this - but very pleased to have discovered the pastime of geocaching in 2021. I have visited Popran National Park on 4 occasions this year and only after my previous visit was I aware of the trig near the Mount Olive Lookout. So on 8 Feb I set out to find it. I found it quite easily and the GPS co-ordinates matched those of my old Navigon 3300max exactly. I then did the loop through Donovan's Forest, past the 248 trail junction and onto Emerald Pool, returning via the Olive Trail back to the picnic area. A fun day on my own. Very Happy

Found while on a bushwalking club walk. A easy climb.

Visited this trig while on a National Parks Discovery Tour. We cheated - we drove to the track off the fire trail, then we drove to Emerald Pool for lunch.

On a round trip downthe old Postmans Track west to Ironbark Creek then north until we climbed up the hill to Upside-down man cave. Couldn't bypass the trig though! We could see the Bahai Temple from up here - directly south and a looooong way off

Found this trig as part of a really nice walk through Popran NP with a couple of previous visitors, starting from Ironbark Road. Interesting to see the old vanes next to the "new" vanes. Plenty of views from near the trig.

Found it on a recce to check out the trails in Popran National Park. We actually parked off Peats Ridge Road and took the Pipeline Firetrail to Ironbark Road then walked in from there. Pipeline Track has a nice steep hill so good fitness training!

Forgot to mention:
1/ Take water with you, as you can't trust the humble toilet!
2/ Keep an 'eye out' for "Things of Wood and Stone" - thought I saw Scooby Doo (up a tree), and a stone face looking at me! Will post photos

The listed coordinates were 'spot on', but as the trig hadn't been 'Found' previously I went the T4 route in only to find there IS a trail that heads in from the track, at S33º 23.221' E151º 11.219'. Then it almost seems to bypass the trig, but there is a fainter trail to the trig from S33º 23.244' E151º 11.283' north to the steel post that is 'nameless', and the circular vanes, that are lying on the ground.
Coming from the North down Ironbark Road a 2wd will get you to about a kilometre from the locked gate, information board and toilet at the entrance to Popran National Park. And then it is an easy walk to a signed trail to 'Mount' Olive.
Nice views in different directions, shame there is no name plate, and that the vanes have been displaced.
