A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig poin. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Spotted this one on the way to Bathurst and realised quickly that the only way to capture it was from the road. Grabbed the shot and continued on Smile

Almost at Bathurst. In real life, the trig is a lot clearer than in this photo.

Seen along the road. Can we get any closer?? Doesn’t look like it. Well this is it then. We’re on a short break exploring the middle of nsw on our way back and this trig was seen from the side of the rd. Nice easy find.

managed to spot this one from a distance not the best photo but is the closest we could get without going into private property

Started at Bathurst bright and early for a bit of a trip down south, have a few trigs picked up to go after, got a relaxing trip as have to be back home on Saturday see how far I can go & how many trigs I can get photos of on the trip. This was the second stop at Torrens and took the required photo but couldn’t find a spot to get me closer. Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia. Hopefully there will be a few I can get closer on the trip.

Last minute plans late last night for a country drive today with fitzy_1965 lead us up to Blayney. I ended up with 24 GC (filling in gaps up the road from Goulburn) and 5 trigs. Number 3 for the day. Headed down the dirt road but couldn't get a good shot so headed back to the highway.

Abercrombie River area weekend. As I was traveling about I saw these three hills with trigs clear against the background, so as others have before me, I took an image from the road.

Thanks

#GA994 - 15:25; Out on a day run from Canberra to Blayney via Crookwell and return with Sol de lune, primarily to collect caches in the History of..... series and anything else along our route, including a few trigs. We had reached Blayney and after a short visit, headed for home. Decided to check this trig out on our way past, but couldn't get a really good angle on it, so took some pics from the highway. A day-long backways roady for History mysteries and trigs with rogerw3 ...

This trig was not on the long list for the day's hunt, but you cannot hope to pass by with it unsighted with the trig gnome rogerw3 scanning the hillsides. A 'there's a ... ' moment on the road (and of the road, take care here with the stop and start, 'tis deadly busy).

Found today with whitemushroom on a western touring trip. This is on private property but is still visible from the road, take care with the parking as this road can get busy.

I spotted this one on a hill from the highway. Drove along Dungeon Road but I don't think you can get close enough for a decent photo. I'll post my cropped zoomed pics later.
