Description

Bega TS818

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bega.

Serial number is: TS818.

Last Inspected on: December 7, 1984.

Elevation is: 316 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A sign on the track up warns of private property and a gate ahead and no through road. I was reticent, but as there is a cache up there, I figured it was public or Crown land. One of those awesome trigs on the top of a rocky outcrop.

A nice wander up the hill and we were rewarded with a trig and some great views of the valley below.

A quick find when we found GZ, a short but brisk walk up the hill on a fairly warm day. Surprised it hasn't had a find for so long! TFTC

Found 1330. Think this one should be called BEGA, like the name plate says! Nice spot.

A great shortcut when going between Bega and Bermagui. Got to the turn off and had to stop short with 200 metres to go to the cache due to a tree across the track. I got out to walk and noticed it didn't look too sturdy so I just dragged out out of the way and continued on in the car. I love these costal trigs, they are so sturdy. The view could do with a prune, but it is still there.

Will upload photos later.

Parked the car at the bottom of the track as looked a bit rough. After a short walk found a tree lying across it so would have had problems anyway...although may be other tracks to the top. Did the GC cache then snapped the trig. Some good views through the trees.

Found while seeking a traditional cache nearby. Took photos but I dont know how to upload them. Awesome views.

We were looking for the turn coming from Tanja towards Bega and found one off someone's driveway.
There was a wide verge to park so we walked up the hill. On the way we discovered that there was another option to drive further. Oh well - a nice day for the walk and it wouldn't be a proper trig walk with out the climb.

We took our photos and enjoyed the view then were off again in search of a refill for our water drums.

Found whilst up here doing another GC cache. Quite an impressive sight up close!

I rode the bicycle up here at lunchtime to get a bit of exercise.
The journey covers almost 10 kilometres from the centre of Bega and the road winds its way slowly up the mountain.
So the gradients are gentle.
The last few kms are through the forest and were nice and shady.
No one's going to be driving the last couple of hundred metres up to the trig for a while though as the access track has some deep washouts on it now after the heavy rains last month.
With a bit of scrambling around there are some good views out over Bega township close to the trigpoint.

We drove up to here no problems with our 4x4 although a 2wd would be okay as long as it has good clearance. Might be different after heavy rain though. We also found the nearby GC cache whilst up here.
Thanks,
The Hancock Clan

I am still remembering trigs. Even now the system has been going a bit. Wet and windy up here today. Albida.

Had travelled near here yesterday but heavy rain & lightning prevented me from searching so came back up here from my camp near Eden. There is a GC cache nearby. A 4WD will get you close or walk from the road.
