Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

A second fun 4WD for today! Woohoo! Glad we had the right vehicle for this, however a walk up here wouldn't be too bad in cooler weather. Today we were in a heatwave, so, wouldn't have happened without wayn0's capable geovan. Funny thing though, we were both looking down at the track trying to make out any rocks and things to negotiate amongst the long grass we were certain we were not stopping a hot vehicle over top of, that we totally missed the trig and pulled up at the fire tower wondering where it was. haha. At least at the fire tower there was somewhere safe to stop. You could smell the grass wanting to catch fire from just glancing our undercarriage.

Trig was found was enough once we had our eyes raised and looking in the right direction. No Waratah flowers were seen here today but I did see a number of Waratah plants. I was really hoping to see a couple of flowers and snap some pretty photos of them. Too late I guess.

Good fun drive and find.

Drove up here with NTM. The trig has seen better days but it's still a great find!
Thanks for the cache Smile

Well compared with the previous log we found the track had not been well graded so maybe the area has had a lot of rain since May. It wasn’t hard to negotiate with the 4WD and we were soon at the GZ. What a sad looking trig. Obviously the fires had a big effect on it.

Heading out of Casino today after visiting good friends and grabbed photos of eleven trigs before arriving in Glen Innes.

Thanks for publishing all these trigs for us to find Geocaching Australia. DancingDancing Clan Cerberus Clan Cerberus

Was out and about today and had this one on the radar after seeing it on SIX maps some time ago. Pulled over on the side of the Gwyder highway and walked for 15 minutes or so up the well graded track. A 4WD could get up here – right to the trig, but I was in the work car today. Interesting to see how the bushfires out here burnt the western side of this track, but the eastern side escaped the inferno. As I got higher I could see the whole area had been inundated with fire – including the poor trig, which was exhibiting the most limp shaft of any trig I’ve seen.

Really get a feeling of being at great elevation up here, even though the trees are just a little too high and block the view. There’s a small radio tower up here too. Would have like to climb up the ladder to look at the view from 10 meters up, but it was locked up.
