Description

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Kinghorne

Serial number is: TS6471

This is a concrete pedestal with mast and vanes, it is on private property but can be seen from the road.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After doing a close by cache I was able to see this 1 in the distance – I’m very glad the photos worked out as the way the sun was I couldn’t see it like the photos are – I’m very happy because I was thinking it was a hit / miss thanks

#GA5290 - 10:40; A cold and windy day, but despite the weather, I set out with Sol de lune and Smittengranny on a "Blitzkrieg" to collect caches in the area to the north from Gundaroo through to Gunning and on through some other small towns and villages wrapping up in Goulburn. Managed 13 GCA and 15 GC for the day as we made our way along mainly country roads. This was our last third and last trig stop and another long shot from the road. This is the third trig I found with Sol de Lune and LuckyL10n on a day out caching around the area between Canberra and Goulburn. It took us a while to find the most appropriate place to take the required photo. Attached is the best that I could manage. TFTT Geocaching Australia. Very HappyClan CerberusClan Cerberus

Before joining up with Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK for our trip to Bathurst, I cached my way up to Goulburn via Collector to fill in my day. I enjoyed some of the new caches but failed on one.
