Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA5288 - 08:35; A cold and windy day, but despite the weather, I set out with Sol de lune and Smittengranny on a "Blitzkrieg" to collect caches in the area to the north from Gundaroo through to Gunning and on through some other small towns and villages wrapping up in Goulburn. Managed 13 GCA and 15 GC for the day as we made our way along mainly country roads. This was our first stop and a quick find just over the fence! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out on a fabulous day. It started with Canberra's first frost, clear blue skies and a bit of a breeze. However that all changed with clouds gradually appearing and the breeze developed into a really nasty wind that felt as if it came straight off the snow. I was travelling with LuckyL10n and Sol de Lune who had mapped out a good route for us that included GCA and GC caches - some trads, some mystery and importantly some trigs. This was our first stop and the pile of rocks that marks the trig was clearly visible from the fence. TFTT Geocaching Australia. Very HappyClan CerberusClan Cerberus

Quickly spotted at the end of the street, just over the fence. Just a pile of rock, but obvious the trig location.

Day #1: With a long weekend off, I decided on coming to Canberra for it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any accommodation for the Saturday night, so instead, I ended up with a single night but that doesn’t matter. I’m sure I’ll enjoy my Geocaching trip still. Big Grin I started the Saturday with avenging some DNF’s as well as finding newer caches along ‘Sutton Rd’ to my accommodation in Queanbeyan. Yes, this did include finding the new AL in ‘Gundaroo’ which was great fun and full of history lessons to learn about. After finding these caches, I then booked into accommodation and have a late lunch. Afterwards, I decided on doing the new AL in Queanbeyan. I also decided on walking from my accommodation and visit some of the other caches around. After a rest and dinner, I went and did some night caching. Only two find for this and both were quick finds. Now time to get some sleep.

Day #2: After a great night sleep, I went to attack the GCA ALF trail and the Starwars Letterbox trail plus a few loose caches that were along the way. I started by re-attempting the new AL bonus cache in Queanbeyan but unfortunately, I needed to leave with a DNF again. Sad Well, time to head over to the ALF trail and get started on my bush walk. I collected a couple before I got there. It took about 1h40m for the walk which was a lot, lot faster than when I did it back in 2016 for the GC version of these. It was great fun and full of great views… again. Big Grin The area has changed a bit since last time. After having a break, it was time to start the Starwars trail. I drove to the end of the trail and worked my way back to the start of the trail. After this I knew I was nearby(ish) a cache that would fill in a gap in my Jasmer grid (May 2017). This is a rare month for me to find because the closest couple to my home coordinates were Canberra and Albury. These are 2.25h of driving each way (totalling 4.5hours) before finding caches and all other driving plus meals. In other words, a big day. It feels great to finally have this finally done. Now time for lunch. After lunch, I decided on collecting some more of the UGC caches, that I qualify for and then it was time to head home from my trip away.

All found caches were a mixture of both GC and GCA caches. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all the CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and others enjoyment. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

I was photographing this trig over the fence, when the farmer pulled up. After a short chat he told me to go through the gate and get a close up photograph of the trig. He said there is also a metal spike in among the stones from 1800 sometime. I tried to find it, but the first rock I picked up had two frogs fleeing, so I didn't move any more. TFTC.

I was out after work trying to collect enough caches to cross off a day at the right number of caches found per day. This was off in a paddock with nothing to see, but here is my image.

Thanks
