Description

This trig point appears on the  ACTmapi Survey Infrastructure Map and includes the (MC) tag, which identifies it as a trig point.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

One of the trigs we found whilst staying in Canberra for the Mega.

Required pic has been added to the gallery.

we are in Canberra for the mega and stopped here for the cache TFTC

Typical for the area, however is it's on the ACT survey maker map, we'll take it as TP. Looks like a lot you see in TAS and SA.

All good to stay, unless there is real proof that it's not a trig.

According to https://www.parks.act.gov.au/things-to-do/trig-pointing, this is not a recognized trig station but could be a survey mark.

These suburban Trigs continue to amaze me! Pulled in here after picking up a nearby trail with GLISS! Glad to have another one in the bag. Now to see if I can find a mine in battleship!

After the even I joined Barb2e and Smttengranny to do a bit of tree climbing and fishing. We visited some caches I had been to before, but I did manage to get three new ones. We had to dance around the ants while looking for this one. I had pretty much given up on it, when I found it on the ground. Barb2e knew where it was supposed to be so after signing the log, it was put back. Hopefully it survives the next windy day.

After we finished along Cotter road, we took a short detour to visit this survey marker.

Thanks

I saw the posts, but my Garmin was showing 32 metres. I figured the coordinates are out, but just in case I waded through the long grass to where the coordinates took me. I couldn't see any plate there, so returned to the posts. My GPS was showing S35° 19.700' E149° 1.916'. So lush the grass this year. TFTC.

Parked at the nearby dog walking car park. An easy find. A cold wind blowing today so did not hang about.

When is a survey marker a trig and not a survey marker??? For as long as Geocaching Australia publishes them I will log them.

This afternoon I had a wonderful time targeting Trig caches around the area. I have actually photographed 9 trigs but will only log 8 as I am hoping to claim the 8th one when I get around to walking up closer to it. Thanks Geocaching Australia for publishing all these trigs to challenge us to get away from the locationless that are so numerous at the moment. Apologies for the generic logs.
